Using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 what option do I choose to backup my current ROM? When I go into backup and restore I have multiple choices and I am not sure which is approperate and where it says Restore All (Be careful)....I decided I better make sure what exactly I am to back up and restore?
I believe the warning to be careful is because you do not want to restore system data if you are not on the same base rom. If you are just creating a backup so you can restore settings on the particular rom you are on, then back up all. If you are looking to backup apps, use titanium

Are you in the Recovery mode or in ROM Manager? In ROM Manager I just choose to backup current ROM, then it restarts into recovery mode and does all of the work for me.
I am in recovery, not ROM manager but I guess I can do it through there too. As long as I get it backed up, thats all that really matters I guess. I want to do a backup so if I go to a new ROM I want to try I can just restore my existing one if the new one doesnt work out.
I've done that through rom manager with no problem. To me, that is the safest path. Good luck.

Rom manager will not work with certain roms

Hello, i rooted my phone, and it came installed with superuser, CWM and CWM tweaks. i installed rom manager and found out that it contains CWM too.
i have a screenshot here: tinypic.com/r/rh4y1f/5
What is the difference between these to and which one should i use?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not entirely sure what that App is. I imagine, when you click it, it would simply reboot your phone into recovery (CWM)—meaning they're the same thing.
Also, using ROM Manager to make backups, etc. is just like using CWM. If you make a backup in ROM Manager, it will be visible/restorable in CWM; likewise, if you make one in CWM, it will be fully usable in ROM Manager. Using ROM Manager to make a backup literally reboots your phone into recovery, makes the backup, then reboots into Android. It does the same thing, without you having to go through CWM's menus.
Alright, thanks

Not sure. Whatever app that was in his picture, which was just titled "CWM". I figured it would do as you said, though.

its alright. it can be fixed
1st. before you installed a rom you should have done a backup in xrecovery. if you have then boot into xrecovery, go down to backup/restore and choose restore, then choose one of your backups.
if you didnt make a backup or it didnt work then follow instruction 22nd. open up pc companion or your pc or computer/laptop (either one lol) and choose update phone hopefully that should fix it. i dont know if seus is still around.
hope it helped and remeber to press the thanks button if i helped.
my advice is try to ude gingerDX rom (after restore from your backup)
or if your device can boot anymore your can use SEUS
just follow the easy step
make a backup of ur rom before u install a new rom,u can do dat from xrecovery, after u backup ur rom then copy the custom rom to xrecovery/backup then boot into xrecovery and install the new rom
Guys, I hope that you can help me with my problem.
I tried to make a ordinary backup, usin CWM. It went fine this time. Sometimes it has occured problems with doing a backup also.
The problems come when I try to restore that backup. When I it starts, and then closes. The log says "MD5 error", I don't remember if it is exaktly that, but it is something similar.
Does anyone of you have any solution on this problem?
Thank you!
Best Regards
Jimmy
I'm having the same problem.
Can't create a backup. Error while backing up system or sometimes error while backing up data?
I'm running darky rom, note core kernel and cwm touch 5.0.0.4.
I want to try out Paranoid android but don't have a backup to fall back on!

That sounds like a nandroid backup to me. Do NOT restore any nandroid backups in CWM on stock ICS roms/kernels.
Use Abyss kernel. Flash it. Reboot Recovery. Restore nandroid.
The actual backup should work in CWM though.
Please if you dont mind, would you explain why its not a good idea to recover the nandroid backup with an ICS kernel and so on....will this produce a bad emmc?
Currently I'm on PA Rom, I also couldn't make a nandroid backup , it says error while backing up image of /sdcard/.android_secure/
Any suggestion would be appreciated , thanks.

There is a chance of triggering the EMMC_CAP_EREASE command when under heavy I/O load
Hey, I got a problem with restoring a backup on my SGS+. I' m using CWM 6.0.1.2 and in the middle of the restoring process, when it says it' s restoring mobi.cyann.natools-1.apk ( i recored a video so i can see what it is because it dissapears very fast ), phone just turns down. Hopefully i can boot, as it restored the boot image, but half of things is not working. I know i can flash rom again, but i really need files from that backup. What can i do?
EDIT: I tried with older backup i found on my pc and it' s the same, phone turns down. Is it a recovery problem?
And sorry i posted it in i9000 section, but i9001 has only a single post in Q&A and it' s a bit messy.

you need same recovery as your backup for it to work, workaround is to use a Nandroid browser ( free app from play store) to copy what you need to new ROM
