Moto x rear facing camera stopped working - Moto X Q&A

After upgrade to android 4.4.4 my phone was working OK for a month. One fine day its rear facing camera stopped working. Now only front camera is working and icon to switch camera is also not available. Did factory reset and safe boot but all in vain... Please help to fix the issue... Thanks

I did factory reset.. Same problem
Can it be a hardware problem? I never dropped the phone..

He meant flash stock again, not factory reset.
Be sure you don't downgrade though... Or you might brick.
If it's the same after flashing stock image it's likely hardware failure.

If the 4.4.4 files aren't available yet, you will need to wait.

I'm sending g mine in for the same problem. Advanced warranty since I was out of it by 1 week. I used rsdlite to flash the factory FW. Still dead.
Waiting for the new phone to get to me.

Thanks i will try to flash the stock rom. Hope it may work..

fix for moto x rear camera not working
I tackled this issue. Called Motorola and talked my way to a cool tech. They know it's an issue. Question is software or hardware. In short if you cant fix it in safe mode then it's hardware. My fix was hardware and I'm up and running. Paid 10.00 from ebay install took an hour +. Not bad at all.. torx 3 is your friend on this one..

That's working in just 5% of camera problems on Moto X. In all rest cases logic board should be replaced (replacing of camera module is not working). I have many such boards in stock and don't know how to fix them.

I have same issue with my MotoX. Do you think it's worth trying to figure out whether camera module or logic board is faulty? That will cost me 4000INR at least. I can replace hardware myself but after buying and finding that problem was in the other HW is a big pain. If first guess is correct then I'll be fine in 2500INR. That's replacing the board.

For those who got this fixed by replacing either board or camera module... Did your camera stopped auto focussing when it worked sometimes before replacing? If yes, then replacing which part fixed this issue?

anyone have any idea?u guys can try cover your lens while in camera mode

Already solved here as best it can be IMO...

This is a hardware problem, the only way to properly fix it is to get a new phone. When the lens is completely covered, you're supposed to see just black.
I have the same problem only after 4.2 update as i look back to my other night scene photos before the update, everything is fine even at ISO 1250 still no purple tintng. After the update it appear all over the place even in ISO 400. I hope HTC can come up with an update to solve the camera issue. This is bad for HTC.
get your piece replaced within 14 days of purchase. or else you'll have to send your phone to service center.
I had the exact same problem with my HTC ONE. i tolerated it for 2 months then cud'nt take it anymore. Took it to service center and told them that i want my camera sensor replaced. Got my phone 7 days later with perfectly functioning camera!!

May I know how's your device now? Does the purple tint show again after a period of time?
Got a replacement, however, using for a while, the same problem happens again! It's like an endless recycle.

More specifically, the 4.3 update attempts to fix it, does change it a bit, but does not completely fix the problem. I updated, it now goes black if I put it on a table but there is still noise in low light shots. I hear htc may be working on another OTA but this one may work better for some than others depending on how bad the issue was.
It is definitely a hardware issue, but it should be more addressable than this by software because it's just a matter of "ignoring" the noise. I have a camera at work that does exactly that when it has the same red noise issue.

Camera's not working and flash ??

Hi got my son a cheap s3 mini i8190N
The camera does not work get camera failed message, (on both and flash does not work i.e using torch)
Taken apart looks slight water damage, cleaned checked all connections but still same
Tried all the tricks pulling battery, sd card, different software but still nothing when i do the secret number and check camera firmware i get null and cannot update/write.
Is this because all 3 are knackered or is it the camera controller chip faulty/needs re-soldering?
any help please thanks

ummm ok anywhere i can look? ( i have searched)
Just wondered if the null firmware meant the camera is faulty or the chip.
Not too worried about flash can get both camera's for about £10 so might be worth a punt.

for warranty, you have to check with retailer himself, & your problem is hardware related, so maybe rooting might not matter, but it is advised to unroot it before taking it back to Service Center....

Do they repair them or do they swap them for reconditioned ones?

[Q] Unable to swipe down the statusbar

I've been having problems with the sensitivity of the top 2mm of my phone's screen. I don't remember when it started but I think it was around a couple of months ago.
Before, it was only difficult for me to swipe the notification bar down, but now, I can no longer swipe it down unless I rotate the screen.
I don't remember how or exactly when it started, but I remember that I was using ARHD 70.0, then I updated to 71.1 in attempt to fix it, but it only worked for a while but it came back again. I also tried other roms such as MaximusHD and Eragon but still the same. I also tried rebooting to safe mode but still the same. I also used both stock and elemental sense kernels.
I updated my firmware back then to 6.06 and now to 6.07 but still nothing. I haven't tried downgrading yet though.
I tried using the line draw test and the result is found below.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I already searched xda and google but i found no solution to my problem.
It could be a hardware related issue. If it's still under warranty revert it to stock and re-lock the bootloader and just send it back.

Has your device been dropped or been water damaged? The digitizer connection from the mb could have became a bit loose.
*Edit*
I have read on a forum for the HTC One X which seems to have a similar issue to yours where a part of the screen is unresponsive. Someone suggested to clean the connector.

I dropped it a few times while in a case and only around a feet at most. It never been water damaged, hopefully never will.
I see, I'll look for it there, though I'm not sure how to clean the connector. Thanks!

I did some more research about it and people are saying it is a digitizer issue. So replacing the digitizer should fix it, but you will need to buy the lcd and digitizer together as its nearly impossible to replace them separate from eachother.

It's definitely a hardware issue. I have been dealing with the same issue for about 6 months now. When I try to swipe down to bring up the notification bar I get absolutely no feedback . If I give it a smack with my palm near the top corners I can often times get it to start working again. However, it's usually short lived.

I see. Thank you very much for the help. I think I'll just send this to the service center when I get the chance. I will probably ask them to fix the red tinted camera as well. I just hope it won't be too expensive.
You have a dead spot. Sorry kid. If updating the OS still gives you the funk, you need a new screen.

Root cause of the purple camera tint?

Has anyone found a fix or the root cause of the purple image tint on the camera? I bought a new camera and it is worse then the original? Does the problem actually have to do with the camera or is something else?
Thanks

This has been covered many many times.
Software changes can help to mask the problem.
But the real problem is a faulty sensor, which is why HTC covers this under warranty and have openly admitted to the issue.
They have to replace the sensor for a better one, to truly fix the issue.
Heat is what makes it show up the most, but its truly a hardware flaw and the only "real" solution is to have it repaired.
Im surprised to see anyone still asking this...as its been covered all over this site and the web.
I figured that was the case from what I read. HTC will not fix my phone for free because I have taken the phone apart and unlocked the bootloader. Is there any place for me to buy the upgraded camera at? I got 2 cameras off ebay and they were both worse thank the one that was in my phone.
