HK version stock - Network mode lock issue - LTE/CDMA mode only - Sprint HTC One (M8)

I'm using a MODed stockRom for HK. As the 'Wi-Fi Calling' function breaks when the phone switches to LTE, I'm trying to set the 'Network mode' to 'CDMA only' while at home as my reception is terrible and I can't have a normal conversation over the mobileo network. However, it seems to be stuck on 'LTE/CDMA' w/o any opportunity to chose another option.
Does anyone know of a MOD that would fix this, or maybe a setting to change to allow it?
I would appreciate your help.

2G/3G/4G Switcher (Widget and Battery Saver)
I found an Xposed module, 2G/3G/4G Switcher (Widget and Battery Saver), that seems to work. I have been running it for about a week, and a seemless transition from 3G to 4G is done automatically when the WiFi connection is lost. It's more convenient than I expected.
As far as I can tell it's the only product of it's kind - all other need some type of manual intervention.
However, as Xposed doesn't work with ART, and Wi-Fi calling is not yet available for AOSP, I'm stuck with the stock ROM, and TouchWiz, any other Launcer seem to break the Wi-Fi Calling toggle.

Switch from 2G to 3G

Recently bought a Samsung I897 Captivate. Its a unlocked phone and I'm using it in Argentina with Movistar. My previous phone was a Motorola Milestone, and it sometimes changed the connection from 3G / HSDPA to 2G (EDGE), in 3G areas. The solution was to go to APN settings, enable "2G only", then disabling it, and the phone instantly switched to 3G again.
However, the Captivate doesn't have such option. Setting the phone to Flight Mode its useless, it will keep connecting in 2G.
Only solution I found at the moment was to go to Network Mode (*#0011#) then navigate to Network Control => Band Selection, selecting WCDMA only, and then enabling Automatic again.
That seems to reset the connection.
I searched in the market for free and paid apps to help me fix this issue, but I found nothing, only the Toggle 2G app, but it only works with Cyanogen Mod.
I have some questions:
If I set the connection to WCDMA only, then I'll have no signal at all in 2G areas, right?.
Does anyone know a quicker way to do this?. I tried to make a shortcut to ServiceMode with dg Quickcut but when I try to open it it crashed the phone.
Thanks in advance.

as of right now, there is no "fix" for this. the best you COULD do is to flash Eugene's VibrantHybrid ROM where the "use 2g networks only" option does exist, but you'll lose GPS (for now)

Thanks for the quick reply Kaik541.
Does the signal strength improve with that rom?.
Currently I'm using I897UCJH7 from samfirmware.

you should revert back to JH3 if you're going to use Hybrid (I don't believe JH7 is compatible yet, there are some issues that cropped up with SRE, so it would be safer to do JH3, or even better JF6). I've seen slightly better reception and MUCH better battery life running Hybrid

It seems it will be updated soon.
Maybe I'll give it a try.
Do you know if it removes the 850 band?.
I need it, because my carrier uses it for WCDMA.
Try this:
1. In the Market, download Any Cut. (This is a free app) 2. open Any Cut and choose New Shortcut 3. select Activity 4. Scroll down the list until you get to Phone Info 5. Select OK. (this will place the short cut on your homescreen) 6. Open the shortcut and scroll down until you see "Set Preferred Network Type" 7. Choose GSM only and you are set. This forces the phone to EGDE
I used this to force edge. Use google to download AnyCut, it doesn't exist on the market for the unknown reason
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I just discovered Juice Defender. One of its features is to set phone to 2G automatically (seems very configurable). I haven't really had a chance to test it, but thought I'd mention it to you anyway

Thanks a lot. I use dg Quickcut for that.
But, I don't need to force EDGE, I need a way to force 3G .
The phone usually switchs to EDGE in 3G areas, and I need to change it back to 3G.
I've used your suggestion to make such shortcut, changed it to WCDMA only, clicked the Disable Radio button twice (because it didn't changed to 3G), and when it switched back to 3G, I changed back the network to GSM / CDMA auto.
What about WCDMA preferred?. Will it try to allways connect to 3G?.
can yall not just dial * # * # 4636 #*#* scroll to the bottom and chnage it there, just so happens i posted a how to earlier in the general section, works on stock ROMS afaik.
also GPS still works

read my previous post.
it has a WCDMA preferred WDMA only (only uses 3g) and a bunch of others. read my post in general for a more detailed explanation.
Thanks a lot

Thanks, but Mesasone pointed me to a great app in the market.
Its called Samservmode. It opens service mode without entering any codes.
Anyways, thanks for your help .

Stuck on Edge on Cyanogen 7

I just installed Cyanogen 7 on my Nexus One, and couldn't be more pleased. The problem is, my phone now switches into Edge mode for days at a time, for no real quantifiable reason. It then seems to switch on its own, back to 3G/HSDPA. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I've tried rebooting the phone to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
What's the signal level or the area that you're in? Could it have anything to do with coverage?
There's an option in the mobile networks settings to toggle between 2G/3G, but I'm not aware of it being set by itself. This toggle button can be placed into the notification power widget toolbar, maybe it's getting set there?
Another thing to look at is the 'Phone info' with the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Near the bottom there's a drop-down for 'preferred network type'. From what I understand, 'WCDMA preferred' will try to use 3G if it is available with a lower signal threshold than 'GSM auto (PRL)', which will prefer 2G unless the signal for 3G is much better. I know that this value changed when I toggled between 2G and 3G with the notification power widget.
Is there a pattern to when it switches between 3G and Edge, either based on time or location? How is the signal/coverage in your area?
I live in downtown Chicago, and consistently got 3G before this. I don't think it's a signal issue as it randomly comes back to 3G/HSDPA and stays there in the same areas before going back and sticking on Edge.
I'm set to WCDMA preferred. Should I change that?
There seems to be no pattern, no. It's very strange.

2G only mode?

how to select 2g or 3g only mode in stock or joker. "select network" function is disabled, any1 know how to activate that function.
On Atrix HD, JB 4.1.1, AT&T have been able to force different modes with LTE Setting by Ryo Ueshima even though that app was developed for Sony Xperia. Nostalgic to hear static in nearby speakers when on GSM.LOL. Resets after restart of phone and perhaps at other times, and may behave differently on different providers. Just started testing today but seems OK.

Question Prefer LTE & Missed Calls

I'm running xiaomi.eu 13.0.8.0 on my Note 10 Pro currently, though I'm not sure it matters for this.
When I have the Preferred network type set to "Prefer LTE" my phone locks onto LTE towers with a poor signal, typically around -117 to -123 dbm, ( > 2km away, 0-1 bars). Sometimes calls work, but often I get reports that people aren't able to call me, and if I make a call it may take several minutes of retrying before it finally switches to UMTS or GSM and the call goes through. There is a strong GSM signal close by, but it typically refuses to use it and prefers the unusable LTE signal instead.
Short of setting it to "2G only" is there any setting that would let the phone switch to a usable signal, when LTE is so bad?
VoWiFi might help in this case to get around the problem, but I haven't gotten that working, either.
reset phone settings. prefer it
redmi note 10 pro same device as yours and I know as I am facing another bug, same would U bcz firmware is latest I have debloated many apps from adb pm.... command.
A Bug I know exist most people wont know is about Cellular network Band. It adds jitter in connection.
And I have solution for that one but that require root. maybe not
But Trust me I know problem Thats it we can find solution
To know the problem, It is actual in band selection. If u check it and find a fix please share it here.
I am writing my fix here
---> Download app from Playstore called "Hidden Settings For Android" to see the problem.
---> now search "band"
U have to use little brain and see all three selections name.
---> FUN read this " Two system apps called System settings and Miui System settings have control over band selection. Right!
---> One open settings for band selection and other opens settings for band selection as same as we think but they are different apps and have different data storage settings they override each other if u select one band in one settings and two in another make both their selection buggy.
By default when i didnt found this I was experiencing bad network.
Then I selected same band on both settings and keep them open in background and by network run back to normal * more faster than other devices on same network provider
As soon as I remove both from background, later bug starts to happen again.
Interesting. I ended up getting vowifi working by contacting my service provider and asking them to enable it on my SIM. So I keep the phone in airplane mode with wifi enabled when I'm at home. That's working much better.
I did try "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and Bluetooth" before, several times, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Pixel 5 gets stuck in CDMA voice network type

After realizing that call dropping connections issues with my Pixel 5 were related to some radio issue that caused my phone to be stuck in the CDMA mode, I reset the connections and all was fine again. Phone was regularly switching between LTE and 5G and the voice network type remained in LTE mode. Prior to doing the reset, no rebooting or SIM swapping would cause the phone to get "unstuck" from CDMA mode.
So, now I have been watching the SIM card status and since I work in an area of really poor coverage, my phone does go into CDMA mode sometimes while at work. What I did notice, was if the phone was in CDMA when I left my job and traveled into a normal LTE service area, the phone remained in CDMA mode until I reboot the phone, and then it goes back into the normal LTE mode.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? What behind the scenes app or process controls the switching of the voice network type? Any insight would be appreciated.
There is a network user built into the android kernel
but In settings Network and connections
Look for prefer 5G.... That should help your issue a bit
Dont use developer option aggressive wifi over cellular handover "keep it off"
Or there may be a software update that patches it

Not seeing a developer option about aggressive wifi over cellular handover. Only seeing a "mobile data always active" whcih says "Always keep mobile data active even when wifi is active for fast network switching", which is toggled on.
