will the existing nexus one kernels/roms work with the att nexus one or is the difference in radio band a show stopper? Just ordered the att nexus one, and currently have a rooted Droid - not sure i could go back to an unrooted & unmod'ed phone
I'm assuming that by ATT you mean unlocked. Regardless, the Nexus One does not have the necessary hardware to use AT&T's 3G. Aside from this, they are compatible. It is the same phone.

It doesn't seem as though Google released a different set of kernel sources for the AT&T Nexus One, so I would assume that all current ROMs are compatible with the new hardware revision.

Only one way to find out! I get my ATT n1 tomorrow as well. It's going to make my current n1 sad.

i got my att n1 today and the first thing i did was flashed cm 5.0.5 test 2 on it and all i can say its behaving just like the t-mobile one.
im loving the ability to use rogers 3g network since i hate using wifi.
I can't take it. After getting spoiled by having a Galaxy Nexus for just over a few weeks- I find myself really wanting the Nexus 4 but since Verizon wants to go all Fascist about what gets on their precious network- all of us Verizon users are all stuck out in the cold.
Does anyone actually think that maybe there's enough demand for the Nexus 4 on Verizon's network that they might actually listen and change a policy or two so that they'll work with Google to get it?
Not a chance. Google learned their lesson with the horrible CDMA carriers.

Because CDMA technology isn't used in most of the world. It also costs more in licensing out the modems and radio technology. Google wanted to make the Nexus 4 a cheap, unified device. Putting it on a CDMA network would cost them more money if they wanted to keep this idea in play.
They aren't going to make a model for CDMA because 95% of the world uses GSM.

The issue isn't Verizon not updating the device. Google could care less. It's about paying more money to get a device to run on an obsolete network. Read my previous post.

I do not see how in anyway my response could be deemed "cute", but whatever.
And I said it's because Google doesn't want to be losing money on a device. The Nexus 4 is already DIRT cheap. Getting the proprietary CDMA radios licensed out for it would cost this thing called MONEY.
I'm on Verizon myself, but enjoy my Nexus 4 on T-Mobile. Stop your whining and get it on another carrier if you want it so bad.
If Google were to look at it from an American standpoint, yes putting it on our CDMA carriers would be logical as they have the largest consumer base, but they aren't. It makes MORE SENSE to put a device on a global standard format than one just for our carriers. The Nexus 4 was designed to be a cheap, fast, and universal device.

I honestly had heard that Google stopped working with Verizon due to Verizon's policies about locking down phones on their network. They don't release updates in a timely manner at all. Hell even the GNEX still hasn't gotten 4.2.x from them. If you're not on a custom ROM, you're on 4.1.2 right now.

If you really really want it that much, you'll switch to T-Mobile/AT&T and get one. Or even better, get yourself a straight talk sim card and no commitment, its only 45 bucks a month.

I want it to happen really bad but I know it probably won't. Verizon will never let Google have the software control they need because CDMA.
I really wish I didn't have unlimited data. Otherwise I'd pick a new carrier.

My prediction is it'll come compatible with Verizon's network, but Verizon will refuse to activate it and beat around the bush about why they won't, when they are obviously trying to find a way that they can install bloatware or otherwise screw with the device.

I would love to stay with Verizon. They are great at my job plus I get a work discount and I have unlimited data...With that said after the way they have handled recent big phones (like the HTC One) if they don't get the Nexus 5 (which they probably won't) I am out of here.

Well, a device without Verizon Navigator is not much of a device at all. They are just looking out for their customers and want to give them the best experience that they can.

I REALLY want it to come to verizon.. The only reason why I'm still with vzw is because its either them, Alltel, or Southern Linc. And as ****ty as it is, vzw is the best of those :/
My gnex is getting old and tired and I would relaly like to replace it with the N5. But time will tell. I'm not very optimistic though...
I know this will be a bit selfish, but I hope it won't come to Verizon. They messed everything up, will remove Google Wallet, add their own bloatwares and giant ugly logos, not to mention 6months late updates, it will give a bad reputation to the Nexus brand.
However what I wouldn't mind is if Google work with Verizon and Sprint to make a CDMA device but with pure and unadulterated Android without the firmware being messed with, although Verizon would not agree to that, they need to put in CarrierIQ and what not.

According to leaks....nexus 5 is already compatible with CDMA....at least from what ive read....the issue is that verizon wont let you activate/use it...again from what ive read

I think that it's compatible with CDMA, just not Verizon's CDMA. Something about it skips over the 800 band in CDMA. If I recall correctly anyways.

Yeah. The author probably saw cdma bands in the fcc filing and assumed that meant Verizon(not realizing that they were not Verizon bands) . I really doubt that this writer has some inside information about the phone coming to Verizon.

Screw Verizon and its users. Yes, Verizon has a great network, but NO it's not worth getting raped by them and having to use their locked down hacked phones and over priced plans.
Verizon and AT&T are the big brothers of the cell industry, their mentality of "You will take what we give you and like it." is killing it for consumers. Yeah T-Mobile and Sprint has worse networks, but the more people that move to them will show the giants they can't operate like that.
I would drop Verizon in a heartbeat if I could. Paying for a single line with 1gb of data and it's right at 100 bucks. And that's with my 17% discount through work! But, I can't drop Verizon... It's either them or alltel for my area...

My guess is Google actually will, but with T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling framework inside. So, that would lead me to believe that T-Mobile will have to want it added to the moto X in order for it to work.

Idk how T-Mobile is going to do so, when there is only one SKU for the American n6. Also, Google doesn't want tainted software so I don't think carriers are allowed to mess with the system files Google provides. If T-Mobile can, then that means carriers are in control of ota updates then?
I'm thinking if it does come to the n6, I'm sure we can hack that and make it work on the Moto X since both are very similar in software

I sure hope you're right. I was only relaying what T-Mobile said, by pushing out an update. I'd hate for the N6 or our phone turn into the Verizon galaxy nexus.

Huh, even with Lollipop? I thought Lollipop was supposed to have native wifi calling built into it, that would work with T-Mobile's wifi calling.

It is, or at least a future version will. But.... I'm sure T-Mobile will either need to release an app or give Google the code to add it in and who knows if moto will implement that code, if that's the route T-mo/Google goes.
I guess it could be like an APN where we'd need to enter the correct settings, but I just can't see that as it would be too easy for the masses (not like us here who at least know a little bit) to screw it up.
My honest guess, we'll never see it as T-Mobile doesn't sell this phone in stores or online like they do the Nexus 6. That shouldn't matter, but I can see it being an issue of knowledge base and support (even though the damn thing comes with a T-Mobile Sim). Yeah, I really don't want another phone without wifi calling. But I'm hesitating to get the Nexus 6, because of the size. And of course, T-Mobile still have yet to make good on the promise that wifi calling will be enabled on the Nexus 6.
It just doesn't seem like this should be such a big deal. Apple did it on the iPhones and you don't have to buy the iPhone directly from T-Mobile. And T-Mobile has an interest in getting people onto wifi and off of their cellular network, whenever possible.
Thus far, I think we've learned that dropping in a Nano SIM from an active line works perfectly.
What else is working? What is not working?

I haven't come across any issues however I don't use Google Voice or tether (two most common questions). Otherwise, it works just like any other device would.
Does anyone with a Google play device have it show up as non Verizon device on your account.

I got mine from Moto and everything works as fine as any other phone I've ever purchased directly from Verizon. It was as simple as inserting the nano SIM from my old Moto X and I was good-to-go.
I use Google Voice for VM and have had no issues.
I don't pay for the hotspot feature, so that doesn't work until I have root.
Yes, My Verizon shows NON-VZW DEVICE, but it works flawlessly. FWIW Google Play also initially showed "No carrier Nexus 6", but now it says "Verizon Wireless Nexus 6".
I think everything works as far as I know. Tempted to buy from tmobile but don't want Verizon to whitelist or black list or whatever.. I already have a nano sim from the m8 and adapter for,my g3.
But tmobile. Has to activate it first.. I wonder if that would cause any issues?

I think the whole issue with Verizon is really overblown and there shouldn't be any concerns. There are only two variants of the phone, one for US and one for international. Verizon and Moto/Google have obviously come to some agreement to allow the US version to use their network without any extra steps. I know it's hard for everyone to believe that there is a real Nexus on Verizon, but I'm here to tell you that it's here, and it works effortlessly and flawlessly. Verizon deserves some credit for this after the Galaxy Nexus debacle, but again....that was their own variant of the phone. Phones have changed to be less carrier-centric, and the carriers have had to adapt if they want to carry the popular phones.

I agree. The only caveat is if you don't have a nano SIM you have to either cut yours or order one from Verizon on the phone not in store. Then activate using your old phone.

I haven't found anything that isn't working yet.
Google Voice for calls and VM are working, and Portable Hotspot is fine too. That is on my micro-cut-to-nano SIM card from my S4.

Oh I know that - I was hoping that it wouldn't be disabled out of the box but I was hoping lol
What about the alleged carrier bloat that was supposed to be downloaded upon activation? Havent heard a word on this so I assume it aint true
Nothing came down on mine, but this could also be due to the fact that Verizon doesn't even have the N6 in their system so there may not be anything on there side setup to even push. This could possibly change down the line when Verizon actually starts carrying it.

My phone is part of my works plan, in which hotspot is a feature. When I clicked on the hotspot option the phone did a "checking for subscription" type warning and then it enabled.

I had an OTA that installed, but no carrier bloat after activation.
