I'm screwed right? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I check my xperia z for updates and see that there is one for the system, but I need to connect it to the PC to do it.
Funny thing is, my USB port is broken(I use a external charger to charge through dock connector).
So how am I going to update this thing if I can't even do that? My PC has Bluetooth but doubt that helps. Maybe someone will upload a version of the update so I can do it straight from the phone?
Or maybe I'll just buy the Z3 eventually.

Actually I updated my ladies Z over the air. It stated to connect to PC and when she couldnt get it working on her laptop for whatever reason I went back into the update, placed it on a charger and started the download.
Of course I am assuming everyone is discussing the same update? I believe hers came through (tmobile) about three weeks or so ago..

Sony Xperia TX - CWM problems

Hello everyone,
Well, I have Sony Xperia TX for 2 days now. I've read on several forums that it supports JB 4.3. However, when I go to update it, it says my OS is up to date and I'm running ICS 4.0.4. Can't really understand that.
Other problem is whenever I try to install CWM it says it's installed and when I reboot my phone and try to enter it (consistently tapping volume down key) it just boots the phone normally, no cwm no nothing. I've tried multiple solutions and I'm still stuck at the start. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
Cheers!
Try updating usin Sony Update Service.
Already did, still says it's up to date.

I've flashed 4.3 via Flashtool and it couldn't start at all. Just vibrates once and that's all. Now I can't start it at all lol. Why it doesn't support 4.3 when it's officially said it can. I'm going nuts over here!

Xperia Z c6603 4.4.2 advice needed

Hi.
I recently bought myself the xperia z to play with, I don't have a computer so couldn't root it how I'm used to doing it (I'm not new to rooting, custom roms and kernels etc)
So yeah, like a fool I updated it to 4.4.2 without thinking, and it's mega and I mean MEGA slow!
I wasn't to test roms and kernels on it, but for love nor money, it will not go into recovery mode, searched Google, tried all recommended ways but nothing, just boots up normal :annoying:
I've rooted it with towelroot, which was successful, installed SU and BusyBox etc. Tried using rom manager to get a recover installed but just says there isn't one available :-/
Also tried flashify but again, nothing, just crashes after a few mins of what I presume it is searching.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please? All help would be massively appreciated.

Maybe you are new to sony devices because these devices do not have a separate partition for recovery.
Try THIS for TWRP
AND
Is it really that slow compared to 4.2.2 ??
Oh do they not? Google has mislead me then. Yes I'm fairly new to sonys, owned a few but never before rooted etc.
And yes, it is ridiculously slow, I have to reboot it like every 30 mins since updating from 4.3.
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated

Okay, so I read through all the info withing the link you gave me, from my understanding, I can't add a recovery as I don't have a computer to do so?
I've read on other sites that you can flash then manually through stock recovery, evidently not though :-/

You don't need a PC.
Just download XZRecovery.apk from the link I gave you and install it on your phone.
Open XZRecovery app on phone and then click 'install recovery '
Thats it. Done you have recovery.
Sony phones don't come with stock recovery at all.
And yes I just updated to 4.4.4, the phone just lags alot lot.
Tried that and it failed, also, my phone will not boot now, just keeps on vibrating, from experience I think its to do with the kernel, but no computer to fix it

[Q] Connect Xperia SP with CR to my computer

Hi guys! This maybe is a silly thing, but I can't solved it. I installed a Custom Rom in my Xperia SP (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-xperia-performance-max-t2814902/post54123091) This is the first time that I install a custom rom. Now, i plug my phone to my computer, which is running OS X 10.9, and the system doesn't recognise my phone, I mean, i can use Flash Tools, ADB, and all that stuff, but for instance, I can not get the files using finder. Should I install a new app?

Help! Mine died too!

I think I have a battery problem.
A couple of days ago it just started bootlooping out of the blue. I can get into Recovery and reflashed ROM (beanstalk). Didn't help. I flashed stock (newest .283) in flashtool. It flashes ok but still will not boot past SONY screen.
After doing this several times here's what I see: It will boot fine and allow me to setup/install/update without problem, but *only* when connected via USB to my computer. The moment I unplug (even though battery reads 50% or 72% or 99%---I've done this many times now) it shuts off like you flip a switch either immediately or within 2 minutes of unplug. I reset (via power and vol up) and I get a SONY screen and then all goes dead again. Will not boot w/out USB plugged in.
Maybe a red herring, but it seems consistent now.
Any thoughts? No recent drops/water/new app install prior to problem that I'm aware.
Thanks--
Dave

How would PC Companion be any different than Flashtool? I thought both rebuild the partitions when flashing ftfs. I used Flashtool for the Stock flashes and TWRP for the Beanstalk flash. Again wiping everything each time.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try even though I think Flashtool does this same thing.
Tried to repair the phone, but PC Companion wouldn't do the update/repair due to modified software on the phone...Do I need to relock the BL or just return to pure stock for PCC to work?

PCC won't work with unlocked BL. But it's the same thing, PCC or Flashtool, so if you have the same problem after reflashing it via Flashtool it's probably a hardware problem. ( battery or mbo)

[Q] Xperia Z DRM

Hi Everyone,
New member here , and am just getting up to speed with the Xperia Z. C6603
I have a Xperia Z C6603 that I got from eBay , it already has the clockwork recovery and an unlocked boot loader , after reading other threads about DRM and relocking to allow official downloads etc. I wanted to check if the previous owner had been diligent enough to copy and restore his DRM , is there a simple way to check?
I have gone to the Verify Certificates tool in the system menu , but am unsure what the correct output for a DRM's Xperia should be.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks.

You can install the "official" updates using flashtool anytime and there is no special needs.
Only PC and the tool and the drivers.

Thanks AndroidFreak,
What i'm trying to do at the moment is using flash tool for mac , I've downloaded an unbranded rom for my Xperia Z , I'd like to flash it as i have no apps and half the functions are missing as i reset the phone to defaults before i realised it was rooted LOL
I'm getting error : no room left on device when i try to flash it , the bundle has been downloaded and prepared , any ideas or advice?
Also if i want to learn from the very beginning , is it possible to go back to out of the box state , ok minus ddm , but sony sony firmware and locked boot loader , no root etc. ?
Thanks for your advice , this sure is a nice friendly board.

Hi AF,
Sorry for such a noobie set of questions , maybe I'm not safe with a rooted phone LOL
I just managed to relock my boot loader , then nothing booted
Re-Run flash tool then unlocked again, brilliant CWM and phone booting again , I'm bguessing it needs a unlocked boot loader?
(won't be doing that again in a hurry)
When you say copy the Zip files to my phone , do you mean to the SD card and then install .zip from SD using CWM?
Ideally , i'd like to end up with a locked boot loader and stock firmware , sort of day 0 stuff , then leaRN from scratch , but it's a step learning curve
Sorry in advance if i sound like a lamer.

Yes they will.
To go back on Sony stock kernel and firmware just flash FTF with flashtool and done. But the root and CWM recovery will wiped. You can root and install CWM any time.
And bootloader relocking. Did you made a TA partition backup before you unlock??
