[Q] Android OS using my data. How can I stop it? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why is it the only thing that uses data even when not even using the phone? I tried everything. Disabled background data, sync off. Every little setting, I went into and turned everything off. I restored my phone to factory settings and didnt log into my google account when they asked. I skipped everything. I tried everything and it still uses data.
Anyone know why? I have the moto g 2nd gen US version.

Your Android Os is updating Some Apks I think Apps like Google play services & playstore Application To Latest Version.. when you Login into Your account just Goto Playstore Then Settings Click on Auto update And Set it To DO NOT AUTO UPDATE Apps ..
There is A best option If Ur rooted Just download The Titanium Backup And freeze The Playstore...

I don't know anything about rooting phones Im not a pro. I think I will wait for the next version of Android to come out and see if that fixes the problem. I did set setting to not to auto update but Android OS still keeps using data.
Here is a screenshot.

[Q] [CM10.1] Can't install Evernote, error -24, other crashing apps?

I'm trying out CM10.1 JB using Safestrap, and I'm having some problems, the worst of which is I can't install Evernote.
I was using the CM10.1 Targa, the 4-15 afternoon "nightly build", with latest GApps (the one dated 20130315)
It downloads the latest from Play Store, then gives an "error (-24)" in the notification, and the install aborts. Then the notification went away and there's no evidence of I ever tried to install it.
I've seen similar messages from some of the apps I ran fine on 4.0 ICS (official) like SeeCPU but I can live without those. But I need Evernote. (the website ain't the same)
I've also have problems with Play Books and Drive / Docs, and Play Music. I've reset data on those three apps but they refuse to work (and also ate up my battery life). So right now they are uninstalled. Play store initially crashed but after a data reset worked fine.
What is error -24?

Here's a screenshot of the error.
I've since noticed that Pulse (the news reader) won't install either, same error.
ROM Manager just quits immediately after run
Same thing happened with the 0420 build.
I got the Play Music problem resolved by uninstalling the app then going into Play Store to install it from scratch. There's some old settings cached that's cuasing problems. Not even clear data will solve this. had to be full uninstall / install.
Google Books got the same -24 install problem.
A full factory reset and wipe / reinstall made the problem go away. So at least now someone knows what NOT to do.

Google play service asking for update

if i click disable i get this message saying some nonsense about device administrator.
when i click OK it just closes.
so i went to settings - security - device admin. and of course there was no Google item there and all the 3 items i had there were NOT selected.
searching was mostly futile as that keyword filled the internet because people flash custom roms and forget to read about the gapps part i did found one thread saying that you have to remove all Google accounts before updating this... but if i remove all Google accounts i won't even be able to freaking open the play store...
what am i missing here?

You could try updating it manually.
This post on AP has the latest update and explains how to choose the right one for your device.

Missing apps?

So my uncle bought a Xiaomi Mi 3 in Indonesia a few years ago, and he used it for about two years. Recently, he bought a Redmi Note 3 Pro to replace it, and I helped him factory reset from the recovery menu. He took the device home, and is now saying that theres NO internet apps at all: no Google Search, no Mi Browser, no Chrome. And the search widget doesnt work, and neither does the Google Settings app, which is about the only google app, as the Play Store and the rest are missing. What's happened?

factory resetting the miui v5 global rom via recovery deletes all the google related apps.
Download Google Installer App to install all google apps including playstore. Follow the below link to get the "Google Installer App" with the instructions to use it.

Note: your uncle is using miui v5 which is very old version.

Oh ok, thanks. And P.s. he uses MIUI 5 because before resetting, he had no storage space to install MIUI 7.

Lenovo Z2 plus(India) bloatware problem !!!

Earlier I was using moto G2 that had a stock android and I was able to disable all the google bloatware that I didn't use. Now I bought a new phone (Lenovo Z2 Plus) which has a slightly customized ROM (Almost looks and fells like Stock) and I am not able to disable apps. What could be the reason?

See the disabled option White'd out ??
The reason is the manufacturer and Google do not want you to disable them, also Lenovo says the ROM is specially made keeping in mind the preferences of Indian population, and I think we do use the stock Google apps (lot of people I know do). And is there any reason you want to disable them?

Are there any means to disable any app without rooting?
To disable there apps, you´ll need root.
There are at least two different app-directorys in the android system. apps in one directory can be disabled. apps in the other are "protected" and can´t be disabled/removed without root.
Some of these apps in the protected folder are requierd by the system to work. Still there are also many unnecessary apps protected and i can´t understand why.

[Help] system apps getting updated with auto update disabled!

Note 8 (N950F), Rooted baseband: N950FXXU4CRG8, Oreo 8.0
Both Google play store and Samsung galaxy app store have their auto update disabled. Also, developer options has system auto update disabled.
Somehow system apps getting updated under the table, I found out thanks to Xprivacy notifications when apps gets updated to new version.
Please help me stop this. Auto updated apps can ruin a good phone with new versions that could force close for no reason or have features removed.

Certain system apps will auto-update, no matter what you do. I've had this happen to me, as well.
