I really want to get this phone it looks so cool. but the one thing that is stopping me is the limited 32 gigabyte storage option. That is not enough for me because I like to use poweramp with all my music local. I don't like cloud for music.
On my current phone I have a SD micro card that Is 64 gigabytes.
Any ideas on what I could do?
I have seen those Bluetooth storage devices for Android but I think that it would break power amp when its not connected. Plus it would suck when I'm biking.

Even a $3 Frys dongle works for 64 GB but only Fat if unrooted.

I prefer a dongle because the angle plug is low profile & less likely to damage the port.
Interesting....
Just to confirm... I wouldn't be able to charge the phone while using the dongle, correct? For listening to music at work while at my desk I keep the phone plugged into the charger.
I guess this wouldn't feel to good while riding a bike in the pocket.

Dreaming. Won't happen with a portable without being powered.

Ehh, I would question the ability of the nook to power the device properly. Take a look at the new seagate GoFlex. It has a built in battery and wifi. $200 for 500gigs is a bit much, but 5 hours of battery is really nice.

I've been eying the GoFlex for a while now, and even more so with the new Android app. I've not seen anyone try it with a Nook yet. $200 is a lot to spend on an unknown.
A powered hub will allow you to operate an external HD with the nook. I have run a passport drive thru the powered hub with no issues. These are much less expensive options IMO. Just sayin.....

So I played around with these Touchpads, and I really like them. I bought one for $100 which was a good deal. But I was under the impression that they had a MicroSD slot from what my friend said.
So what I plan on doing is taking CR2 Raw files from my Canon SLR and putting them onto a MicroSd and show clients right after I took them with the Touchpad. The whole reason for me going down this road. I have tried looking through this site and really couldnt find anything.
So I found an adapter that will plug into the Microusb plug and I was wondering if there was thing better that you guys would suggest and or is this a good buy?

um pretty much what he said, the product you are looking at does you no good because there's not another cord stemming off of it in which you could plug into a power supply.
picture attached gives you a ****ty visualization, however i don't know where to find the product you're looking for lol
i bought a solar self powered 4 port hub and an otg cable.. that is your power source for the hptp micro port.. i paid less than 12$ for complete set up..
read this.. i used hub that has all ports inline instead of the OP's suggested hub.. Y cables are messy..

For your setup you'd need an OTG cable with a way to supply power. Something like this should work if you have a USB power source, like your charger or one of those battery powered USB chargers. Then you'll need any USB microSD reader. The card will show up under "/mnt/usbdisk".

I have one. No need to root as stock OTG support is fine, but will not read NTFS.
There are a couple issues I have with it used with Note2:
- it will not act as a dock... it will not charge your phone while it powers memory or USB devices.
- it cannot be used with a case, unless you also buy an extension cable... M/F micro USB
- mine feels a little weak, like it might break off in the micro USB port & is intermittent if moved.
It's easier & cheaper to use a OTG cable unless you need to power USB devices... then you could add a hub. If you use a smart dock, you get charging, 3x USB, audio, HDMI.
For the cost, it would have been nice to have it charge as stated for S2.

Bought it for use with my Galaxy Note and now use it for my Galaxy Note 2.
Works great (yeah, not with a case on unless you have an extension cable), have used it with SD cards, Keyboard, mouse (yup, puts a mouse pointer on your screen!), external hard drive (but you have to plug in power (usb or wall charger) for that), I have even plugged in my Creative USB headphones and they work great! Awesome device.
If I was to make it, I would put a little sturdier plug on it (see other post for "flimsy feel") and make it so it had a VERY short plug (like a 1/4 inch longer) so it could be used without popping the bottom out of my TPU case).
If someone has a link to a SHORT m-f micro usb extender, SHARE please !!

Did anyone tried the version with the hdmi?If it works,it could be a good alternative to official smart dock (100$)
It seems that it doesn't charge the note, as per the reviews, when the usb host is used.
I want something that charges it, to use it in the car, sending video to my headrest screens FROM a USB thumb drive. So I'd need USB+HDMI out, plus charging. That would be great to have. But only playing videos from USB drive WHILE CHARGING it would be enough for me. Although there are dongles for the Note 2 that would allow HDMI+Charging, there is nothing AT ALL in the market that would allow USB HOST+Charging capabities. Not an Android phone, not a tablet (other than Toshiba/Acer with USB ports on the side).

I think MHL will not work because the 11 pin vs 5 pin connector we have like the Galaxy S3
Found this comment on amazon:
This thing is magic! All of these different ports in one simple accessory is brilliant! They don't claim that MHL on this unit works with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and sure enough MHL does not. Everything else does though. Having all of these ports on one small accessory makes the most of any compatible smart phone.

Patriot Rage ones are pretty quick. As has been said if you check the manufacturers website they have speed ratings normally listed there.
USB 3.0 wont give you any quicker speeds on the nexus but with it being so readily available you might aswell get one for if you ever get usb 3 on your pc, which will make transferring files to it quicker.

I second this, although you won't gain anything directly in the n10 with a well rated usb3 thumb drive you are setting yourself up well then. 1) If you use it with any usb3 hardware the transfer speeds are fantastic and 2) for the most part any well speced/reviewed usb3 drive will be transferring at the quickest whatever usb2 speeds the n10 (or any other usb2 device) can handle. (All depending on file sizes and such as well, for the most part lots and lots of tiny files are horridly slow writing to almost any thumb drive).

You should be limited by a USB2.0 OTG cable anyway, so no a USB3 device would do nothing.
While I dont usually see it advertised, you can read through the description and the better ones usually like to advertise how they are better. Some say things like "dual channel flash chips for added speed" Another example:
With 4 channel architecture and only the finest NAND, Ventura Pro is a pro for a reason.

It would be great if we were able to install Android onto that USB flash drive through an OTG adapter. It would be far faster than the built in NAND

Actually I read somewhere the hardware does support USB 3.0. While not equipped with the port tho, this could be a possibility with a pogo dock of some sort. Have neo clue if that even supports it. Would be quite nice if it did take advantage of the internal hardware.

I own a portable HD that is usually plugged into my PC, can cary it around when I want to take my movies or games with me (share with friends)
But the point of a tablet ,for me, is to have something portable that doesnt get in the way. And a bigass HD does get in the way even if it's portable.
So I just ordered this:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B008R6OPJQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Will use like an external SD card (will put all my titanium backups and such on it, and mount it with Sitckmount)
Also stick some videos in there when im on a trip.
I film all the lectures in my classes at college and then I upload them to a private YouTube channel to send to my close friends/classmates. This way, if they miss a class I have them covered, if I have to miss a class, they take my camera and film for me, etc, etc. It's a win win for everyone.
I'm currently using a Sony CX150 camcorder to do the videos, but with a fulltime schedule and intense classes it's getting harder and harder to make time to transfer videos from the camera to my computer, upload them to youtube, name them, etc.
This is where the Galaxy camera would come in. I'm thinking this would be a good way to shoot the videos and have them immediately upload to my YouTube page after each class. This would take a big inconvenient step out of the equation, and since I'll be connected to school WiFi, it should be seamless. I could also replace my Sony NEX with this (I think). I'm not a photography person so I think this could substitute just fine for my still and video camera.
Few questions:
If I had 2-3 one hour classes with continuous video, how many batteries would I need to film the classes and then have juice to upload to YouTube? I'll drop the quality down as much as possible (doesn't need to be 1080p).
How is the mic on these? The CX 150 picks up the professors speech just fine, and that has to happen for this to work. An external mic could be used if need be?
Is there another product you guys would recommend for this specific use case, if not the Galaxy Cameras?
If you do recommend the Galaxy Cameras, would the first generation be fine for me or do you recommend the 2nd gen?
Any of you use the extended batteries hinted in the other threads?
Thanks!
I'll answer what I can:

1. I don't actually know how long the battery would last with continuous recording. I've yet to record something that long. You can always just hook it up to the charger -- it uses the standard Samsung USB charger, so it could even be powered through a laptop, etc. Also, you could get a portable battery charger/bank thing. They're relatively inexpensive now and can easily double if not even triple your battery life.
2. The mic is mediocre. However, you can use an external mic but you'll need an iPad adapter because the mic shares a port with the headphone jack. You could use a wireless lapel type mic or a shotgun mic, both of which are available from Amazon, etc. for rather cheap. I use either a wired lapel mic or a shotgun mic with a flash bracket to mount it.
4. It probably would be difficult to find a 1st gen Galaxy Camera, and since the 2nd gen ones have be reduced significantly in price, I'm not sure that you'd want to get a 1st gen model.

There are 1st gen ones on eBay for $160. Don't know if it's worth shelling out the extra money for the 2. You can get the extended 2,000 mAh batteries for the S2 and they fit in the GC1 correct? I could give 2 ****s about a couple hundred MHz spec bump in the processor. But updated OS in the future would be nice.

I have the GC2. I also bought an extra battery for it and external charging sled. I also have what can best be described as a "lipstick" power bank originally bought for my phone, but the battery is in the GC2 is identical capacity as my phone, so it works just as well.

I have the wired lapel mic (with a really long cable) that I often use for my son's YouTube videos, but a wireless lapel mic will also work and as long as you steer clear of namebrands you can get a wireless lapel mic for pretty cheap (like US$40). When recording my sons' band concerts or other large room events, I usually just use my $30 shotgun mic. It does really well. I put it and the camera on a small flash bracket which gives me a handle for easier handling, but there's also a tripod mount on the bottom of the flash bracket

I never looked into the GC1 to the point of knowing what battery it uses. When I was looking at it, the price was so ridiculously high (and stayed that way for so long) that I just gave up on it. The GC2 price went down a lot sooner. The processor is much faster in the GC2 -- noticeably so in all the comparison reviews. I mean, if you're just turning it on and pressing record, then you might not notice it, but if you're doing any type of even minor editing of the video before you upload it, you'll definitely notice it. Also, the OS on the GC1 is rather old and they never updated it (and now never will with the GC2 out). The GC2 is running v4.3. That being said, they also likely will not update the OS on the GC2, so you're stuck at v4.3 even with that camera.

What do you mean charging sled? Like an external charger you plug into the wall that a battery clips into?
I just pulled the trigger and won an eBay auction for a mint GC2 with a missing wrist strap for $231.45 including shipping. Good deal in my opinion.
I was thinking of buying these 3 batteries which comes out to $15.60/battery and this external wall charger for $8.42. Thoughts?
I wish someone made an extended battery for these GC2s. There's one company that makes a 2700mAh for the GC1. I'm hoping this camera fits my needs!

I actually don't like the wrist strap, so it's a better deal than you might think. Haha.
Yes, it's the genuine Samsung charging sled, and the battery is also an OEM Samsung. I actually couldn't find a 3rd party battery for the GC2, so I didn't have any option other than OEM. I usually don't mind going OEM on the battery. I've had several devices destroyed using 3rd party batteries in them, especially charging them.
Just got the camera in. Didn't have much time to play with it because I have to get to bed now.
However, every time I tried to record a video, saving to device memory, microSD formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, there is a 20 minute countdown timer. Is 20 minutes of video the max this thing will record?
If so, that's ****ing stupid.
