I got my new X with the ebony back last night, and within a couple of hours I noticed the wood panel is lifting up a little bit on the bottom right corner. I can squeeze it back together and the glue holds for a minute but it separates again.
Moto support gave me a code to order a replacement, and I will send this one back when I get the new one.
I am curious if anyone else has run into this problem. I think I'll give the wood another shot but if I notice anything similar I'll be switching to leather.
I have the leather and switching to bamboo. Concerned about leather durability and the many blemishes after 5 days.
I got the bamboo, I guess I need to pay attention and see if there are any defects.

I got the cognac leather and it has been flawless so far in the three days I've had it. Gorgeous to boot
I've been trying to get a replacement for my ebony back that got delivered with dings in the wood along the edge. It seems like whatever tool they used made the marks. I got it delivered on the 24th and I tried to get a replacement and they told me they weren't set up for exchanges and my only option was a return. I told them that's not an option and I will wait until they are ready to process exchanges. I called today.. They told me I would get a call in 24 to 48 hours.. I'm not holding my breath because they told me they would call me back the first time and never did.

my bamboo back is peeling a little too:crying:
I've seen some "peeling" or gaps, if you will, in a few publication review videos/pictures, too.
As someone interested in the bamboo back, this is disheartening. :T
Pictures?
I'm going to take some HQ pics (and post them) before I send it back, definitely. Haven't found time yet.
I had two wood Moto X 2013 and one for 2014 version, never had issues with peeling.
My bamboo back is lifting just half a millimeter but not enough to send it back. It's not moving in under pressure so I will live with it for now.
Make a trip to Home Depot and get some wood/bamboo conditioner lmao
I have a leather back and I've noticed that around the camera the leather has separated slightly from the back. Fortunately it isn't near the edges, but the glue is definitely not holding. Overall, the build quality may leave something to be desired.

Mines perfect. No blemishes marks lifts or anything bad. Just gorgeous cognac leather
Mine is also slightly peeling on the top right corner. (facing the screen)
It's not flash with the metal maybe.. 1/4 or 1/2mm. Very small.
Cognac on mine too, and so far so good. It's only been 3 days but I hope it'll stay this way.
I have both teak and bamboo backed phones and no peeling noticed. One other observation is that the bamboo fits flush with the outer metal trim whereas the teak one is slightly lower and recessed below the trim.
Ebony back here, it appears to be separating itself from the phone on the top right as well.
:crying:

Same here, near the camera and dimple, not acceptable for me.
Getting replacement but decided to go with just plain black, don't wanna take a chance again with the leather glue problem, plus the black plastic has more "soft touch" non-slip feel than the leather.
sounds like adhesive and variances in thickness of laminate materials. if laminate is proper thickness all is good, if too thick or thick spot on adhesive then delamination seems more likely.

Hi guys,
I've seen the DIY project which is a pretty decent looking alternative but I was wondering if anyone has seen an actual Matte Battery Door yet? It'd be cool to have one like the Epic 4G's which still said Google on the back. (I think the Google looks oddly classy )
My searches have come up kinda empty so thought I'd ask.
Mini rant.... WHY?! WHY???! Is the back cover so prone to scratches.. it been only a week and a half or so and already I've seen scratches developing, in fact another happened just today.. it's really the one and only thing I don't like about it.. not sure what they were thinking..
Well if anybody has seen alternatives please let me know!
Thanks!
There is the Invisible shield Dry which is a matte back protector for it. It looks pretty sleek.

you can get the invisibleshield dry from any of the sprint stores-- it's all they carry.
if you get the invisibleshield from ZAGG, they send the "wet" version, which is the cover everyone's used to.
the dry version is matte, and thinner, and doesn't use spray/sponge/liquid. it's not as "tacky" or sticky as the wet version, and you can still clearly see the google/samsung logo.
just be real sure to follow the instructions, squeegee from the center out, and give it a couple of days to fully cure. i saw a bunch of micro bubbles and what look like flaws after applications, and it looked like the dry shield didn't fully seal around the tiny dots on the cover, but after a couple of days it was perfectly sealed in. don't squeegee too hard, especially around the curves. it'll stick, and give it a day or two.
pretty happy with it, and it comes with the regular clear/tacky/sticky front shield, too, which is also applied dry. i found the squeegee to be a bit too stiff, and it's easy to dent and stretch the shield when squeegeeing it out.
ZAGG says to keep the device off, cuz the heat or something will affect curing. i just left mine on after application, and everything is perfect. there's orange peel, but it's minimal. no problems with touch sensitivity, and if anything i think it's better because fingerprints and oil don't show up.
i wonder if it's even worth shielding the front, though. i have an old blackberry that had nothing on it, and the screen i think is plastic, and i treated it like crap. no scratches.
but yeah, just go to a sprint store. they have em. best buy around here only sells the front shield. i prefer the dry matte back because it's thinner, and still does a good job.
fyi: ZAGG's guarantee and return policy are top notch. registering on their site is simple, and they'll ship out a replacement pretty quickly, and you just mail back your old shield as proof. they don't care what condition it's in. before i just ripped off an old shield and slapped it on a piece of paper.

So the Nexus S still doesn't have any third party back covers or battery doors? I can't stand the shiny plastic back. All I see on ebay are oem battery doors that are the same thing. Don't want to use a sticker/shield or dip.

Correct.
The white version of the Nexus S actually has a very nice textured back on it. I wanted the white color to begin with but after seeing (and feeling) the difference between the backplate on the black version versus the white version, I much prefer the white one. The black one has no grip to it and, like the OP said, it scratches way too easily.
Yeah I thought about the zagg body shield but they unfortunately only had the screen. I decided to grab the wet one instead and I've never had better luck applying a screen protector.. heh the "wetness" really makes it easy to get the bubbles out and it cures awesome.
As for the battery cover.. it's already got a few scratches, but on top of that in the lower left corner it doesn't seem to snap in very securely, even in general use when tapping on the lower left part of the phone you can feel the battery door.. "click" a little bit as if its not latched properly, it makes a audible click sound as well.
I resolved this issue by putting a very thin strip of scotch tape on the inside of the door along the edge which produces just enough pressure to keep the clicking from happening and it feels more secure. (No you can't see it )
SO I'll probably just buy a new battery door eventually and use a body shield.. hopefully the new one will latch a bit more securely as well. It's not a big big deal, and the DIY fix by me is definitely just me nitpicking the tiny click feeling but still.. I think Samsung makes good products most of the time but they really should step up the build quality a little bit.
Thanks for the suggestions though guys
Actually I think I'm going to try the plasti dip on the existing cover to.. I could see that helping the latch as well because it would be just the tiniest bit thicker it would seem.

I ordered 3. What a bargain!
FYI for those that care, these are wet application protectors. I personally do NOT like wet application protectors.

Not at all. It is applied with water. So it doesn't come off at all.
FYI. I ordered an Exo Skin the same time as this. the Exo Skin has already arrived and been installed while this hasn't even shipped yet.
And that's with the extra $.99 for "priority" processing.
Tell you what, the clarity, feel and resistance to fingerprints/oils of these is much better than VZW ones. I ordered two last week at regular price and received them in 4 days. I ordered a few more at this price.

Pretty much covers whole screen except camera/sensor/notification light/earpiece. It goes edge-to-edge which may be a problem with some cases. Though I find these wet application protectors are not as prone to having edges pushed up by cases since they adhere better to the screen. Haven't had an issue with my diztronic case and this screen protector.

I purchased some of these protectors and installed them on my G2. The feel is good, installation was typical of a soft film protector. I installed the screen guard and back skin two days ago, and have noticed a problem.
On my screen I noticed what appeared to be scratches. I was afraid I scratched the glass before I installed the protector. The scratches run in the long direction of the screen and vary from 1/16th to 3/8ths of an inch long and are about 1 to 2 pixel rows wide, and are randomly located all over the screen..
On closer inspection I noticed on the back skin a number of scratches that look just like the defects I see in the screen. These did not show up until last night, so I have to conclude that they are defects in the adhesive application from manufacturing, that did not show up until the moisture from the protector installation had evaporated. I was getting ready to return the phone as defective until I noticed the same defects on the back skin.
I only paid $2 for the set, so still a good deal. But slightly annoying.
Definitely worth two bucks
I've had mine applied for over 3 days now, long enough that I can give a decent opinion of the product. As other members said, these are wet application protectors, and I was concerned when mine showed up in a plain white envelope SOAKING wet. Luckiky it didnt seem to have any impact on the installation. I've applied dozens of wet application protectors, and this was no easier or harder than the rest. There is a very slight orange peel texture visible (nowhere near Zagg level), but i can not feel it. The fit is great, leaving no gap on either side of the screen, and an uncovered area at the top and bottom about the thickness of my thumbnail (it looks like it would accommodate a Ringke Slim-type case if one became available without touching the protector). It is physically tackier (or less smooth) than higher end films, but not unbearably so. The fit of the back cover is acceptable, and does WONDERS for the G2s normally slick back. You will want to do as the instructions say and let the pieces that apply to rounded areas dry completely before trying to stick down. My only real complaint is that almost all edges have no bevel or taper to them, attracting lint and just feeling odd when you touch them, like you might accidentally lift an area up (which hasnt heppened, once dried, it feels very secure, but it's always in the back of my mind).

Take a look at the screen when it is displaying a white or grey background, and look for rainbowy/glimmery lines running the long direction of the phone, They are hard to see until you notice one, then you will see them all over. I ordered two sets of protectors, I'm hoping this one is an oddball. If you don't see the lines I might install the other set. You have to look very carefully for them.
Anyone else experience this? I actually put mine into a screen protector and case the first day I got it. Popped it out yesterday and found the bezel scratched to high heaven. I hate piano black plastic.
I think the case traps dust under there that grinds it away worse, but I can't imagine it fairing well naked for very long.
Edit: only had this thing since the 9th.

I have never had mine in a regular case. I do have one of those leather "pocket" style cases I slide it in and out of when I have got it in my jeans. Mine is as nice as the day I got it I think. I also put a screen protector on day 1.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
I have had a Skinomi protector and Trident Aegis case on my phone from the first 15 minutes of owning my X. I am a machinist so my phone frequently sees metal shavings and coolant from my hands on a regular basis. My phone still looks brand new from launch day when I take my case off. The mesh over the external speaker does wonders as every few days I have to blow off some of the finer shavings. And every other week I take the case off to clean out the very little dust that gets in it. I would suggest a different case if you are having cosmetic issues.

I had the black model and after 3 days I noticed a couple of nicks on the bezel myself. I take perfect care of my devices and it hadn't been bumped or anything. I swapped it for the white model that way it doesn't show and scratches or dust.Still looks brand new after a few weeks.
My Moto X has fallen out of my lofted bed (~7ft high) 3 times now, and all that's happened is that a tiny little nick in the bottom bezel. nothing else. no screen cracks, dents, anything! This phone is built like a tank!
I've had mine for about 3 weeks, no case, just a screen pro. Only damage I have is from when I accelerated hard in my truck and my phone flipped out of my mount, it flew out flipping and the bottom of the phone hit the rim of a red bull can... It left a small dent/nick On the back portion of the bezel :'(
Bought a better mount and since then haven't had any other signs of wear.

So I took the plunge and purchased the aluminum frame found here:
I just got it in the mail and fitted it to my Verizon G2. Here's what I found:
1) As it's a bumper frame it doesn't cover the whole phone (duh) but the frame interior is fitted with a thin foam material to absorb shock and help with the fit. padding is found on the sides and corners of the frame's interior.
2) It comes with a screen protector. (dry apply 4h hardness aka throw away protector)
3) the lip on the front of the phone gives plenty of allowance for screen protectors but is so thin I'm afraid it may eliminate any glass screen protectors except for maybe the iLoome flex which is .12mm thick.
4) As the back is exposed I'm also investing in a body film like this.
5) Shipment was much faster than projected which is nice since it arrived on my doorstep from mainland China in only 2 weeks.
6) The fit on the front is great, but there are gaps between the back of the frame and battery plate. I was surprised by this since the VS980 is supposed to be the thickest G2.
7) as the back is open the aluminum does not interfere with my signal at all- not wifi, not 4g, nothing.
8) There is a cut out to access the Sim tray, but got to really want it out. Otherwise, you'll need to take the bumper off.
9) My phone can now stand on it's own! May come in handy every once and awhile.
Here's some pictures I'll answer any other questions you guys may have.
this is exactly what i was looking for.

yeah, there are 2 tiny screws at the bottom where you secure everything together. I should also mention how it actually ships with spare screws and a driver.

Although that looks nice, I believe you'll have problems with signal and GPS, etc. Maybe wireless charging too if you have the VZW one.
Good to see people are giving this bumper a try. I've bought 4 cases for the vs980. This one finally adds a premium feel to the phone. And now I have some wet apply clear body film on it I think it's protected enough.

I think it was meant to be there because that's what holds the phone up if you're setting it on a flat surface, so you can watch videos or w/e. at least, that's what makes the most sense.

Yup! If you look real close at my pic of the bottom of your phone you can see the screw holes.
Now that my S7 Edge has shipped I'm in a rush to get a case and screen protector. I've never had an Edge device before and it seems like most people hate film type protectors, but that's all that's really out right now. What's the best one to get until something better comes along?
Hands down its the SuperShieldz one. I've tried Skinomi, Ilumeshield, and Spigen but they can't compare to the SuperShieldz. Fitment doesn't look that great in your pictures, what's with the 1/8" gap at the bottom corners? Or is that a common issue with these edge devices?
I found this one with good reviews but it looks like they're mostly from tablets.

Fitment doesn't look that great in your pictures, what's with the 1/8" gap at the bottom corners? Or is that a common issue with these edge devices?

You have to remember how they need to cut these in order to have them wrap correctly. It's not possible to have one that will cover anything without some compromises. I did take more pictures which I need to upload (I'll post them shortly). The screen protector does cover 99% of the screen unlike my Spigen which only covered ~70-80%

I found this one with good reviews but it looks like they're mostly from tablets.

Fair enough. Maybe I'll buy these and the ones I linked to since they're both cheap and see which is better.
Great, no one has anything in stock and my phone is going to be here in a couple days. Not even the case I want is in stock, have to get two so one comes in time.

I'm glad I bought a bunch of different ones when I did because no they're flying off the shelves. My 2nd order of the SuperShieldz that I bought as a backup won't ship until today despite ordering it last week.

Yea, and imagine living in Canada, where shipping is expensive/long from the US and there's very limited choices in Canada ?
I should have ordered last week. Figured I'd have more time with Verizon lagging behind on the pre-orders.
I just ordered some XtremeGuard screen protectors because of the huge sale, no clue when they'll get here. There's nothing on Amazon with Prime that I can order, guess I'll have to keep the plastic on it that it comes with until I get the protectors.

You can ignore my slightly misaligned install. I was in a hurry (which is usually a bad idea when installing screen protectors), so it would be perfect if I installed my second one that came in the pack.
Here are some pictures:
Whatever yall do don't buy this crap.

I bought it from tmobile store cause it was all they had but it gets bubbles at top no matter what due to the installation process. Waste of $25 and neither tmo or the maker would give me refund

Can you use a case with the screen proctector? Does it go all the way to the edge?
Looks better than the Spigen!

Well considering I'm using my Tech 21 case in that picture yes you can. I've tested it with all of my cases (see my OP in this forum) it works fine. You do have to be care with some cases and lift their 'lip' so it sits on top of the protector when inserting your phone so it won't pull it up, but once you do that there are 0 issues. That's the +/- of having a E2E screen protector for the top/bottom and sides. I'll post more of my case reviews this evening so you can see how it fits in my 7-8 cases

All,
I got the supershieldz as well. Here are a few of my observations. The film has two protective coats that have to be removed. One is the sticky side that gets applied to the screen. The second is a pin film that is on the touch side. This one was a pain to remove. To get a good fit. I removed the side and place it on the phone then took the stick tabs and aligned the bottom and top to the phone. once it was aligned I worked from a corner to pull off the pink film. its a royal pain. the paper tab comes off at times but I made it work. Once the pink film is removed I used a card to smooth out the film or any bubbles. This film is very thin and feels sticky at first but this will go away after a few minutes of use. The film will mark up easily if you have long nails. Also, it does tend to bunch up if you put on a case. This was the case with the otterbox commuter, spigen tough, vrs case and UAG. But I was able to adjust them easily. The good news is that I have been using the phone for over a week now and no lifting. I had the s6 and used spigen and finally gave up. But this one is working well.

I agree, the install is a huge PITA, but the end result is well worth it. As I mentioned cases do work you just have to ensure their lip doesn't bunch it up when putting the phone in. If you read the directions you would've seen where it said gently press out the big bubbles with the included card wrapped in a microfiber cloth. I did this and didn't have any issues getting it to install correctly despite my slight misalignment.

Thanks for the tips guys, planning on getting a screen protector as well as the UAG case, it seems like they are due to ship mid-march.

I can confirm this. I bought this from tmobile a few days ago. I have bubbles at the top and the sides are already peeling up around the curved edges.
