My phone has UB and been using different custom roms, but nothing outside of stock roms. I never overclocked it, but the top half of the phone would get warm from normal use. After using it for about a half hour I put it on the bed, with nothing else near it. I was the only person in the room, and after 10 minutes, I picked up my phone and realised the screen was broken. The phone was cold, so i realised my air conditioning was directly blowing onto the phone for the past 10 minutes. So i assumed, it was the hot and cold mixture that caused the LCD to shatter into 5 hairline cracks.
I recently carried it to a very good technician, who replaced my LCD with a witrigs.com replacement screen. He did a very good job, but from day 1 i've noticed the upper half of the phone gets hot randomly throughout the day with little use. The longer I keep the screen on, the hotter the phone got, and sometimes i would use the phone for long periods without it getting extremely hot. Today I tried to use the camera in broad sunlight and I got the error that the camera had to close to cool down my Xperia.
Does anyone have any tips as to why its over heating or what could solve it? I've tried different roms and kernels but nothing changes.
You can see at the bottom of the phone is where the crack started and it split thruout the entire LCD
Hello, my z1 was also heating by normal use. Then the screen broken. Why ever.
Yesterday I got my new z1 from the provider. No heating (I play Ingress) all things fine again

Yesterday using my in built sat nav my xperia went crazy 4-5 miles into my journey, with tom tt7 flashing on and of so I pulled over and took it from the screen mount, it was hot enough to fry an egg on , i did have my heating on as it was cold, also after closing tt7 the phone was randomly flicking through menus. I had to remove the battery allow it to cool for 10 min put battery back turn on and leave my heating off, thank god all was well and continued on my way trouble free for the rest of my journey. All has been well since it normaly does get hot during use of sat nav, wifi but this was very hot.
I have the same thing, it really does get incredibly hot, Maybe it is the GPS?
Hmz i've been using tomtom for about 3 hours and deviece was just a bit warm.
normaly does only get slightly warm, but yesterday it got really hot.
i wonder if it will explode..
u know.. since the battery is made from sony
I noticed this problem... it heated up a lot due to the car heating was on and the heat was hitting the X1... I have used the GPS in the past and never had problems... Its most likely the fact had the heating on... which made it HOTTER...
Generally warm and that it...
Cheers
I supose the heat of the car's heater was causing it to overheat (it's imaginable considering the metal battery cover, that as all metals do, easily heats up). I haven't had any temperature issues to this point and as far as I have checked (Batti allows to see battery temp), the temperature on mine hasn't come any higher then about 35C.
I have a different issue. With my one, It will be fully charged, and then it will start to over heat. After a couplr of hours, say about 5 hours (at work) i check the battery of the X1, and its only got 2 bars left and needs to be charged again! This is the second time it has happened to me. The battery wont even last 10 hours!

This is probably the problem of battery.
The times my X1 has got hot tends to be from a dodgy charger. It seems like the connector needs to be perfectly in.
My Xperia is getting really hot while using mobile data (GPRS/EDGE), found out that power draw with data connection on is about 500mA compared to usual 60-70mA. I think that battery just get hot thanks to this extreme power draw, but may be there is just some chip which heats up while sending data over 3G network.
hot vs crack
When I'm in the office the phone is permanently connected to my Notebook. It loads an stays in sync with my outlook...
Sometimes I thought that it feels a bit too warm. But usually I'm dropping it in my bag quite fast.
Last week I took it and It was really hot. It felt like the source of the heat was the Battery. The metal cover was nearly glowing.
The interesting thing is, that I also found what is called "THE CRACK" at the stylus holder.
I'm not sure if the crack was there before but if not...
I'm also having a Problem with a very short battery runtime. About 5-6 Hours on Standby. Batti also seems a bit confused. Shows violet loading color even if not loading from time to time. Iwas blaming the Touch-IT Manila shell I've installed, but I am not that sure any more. Going to test an write an Update...
Do the other heaters also have cracks in their cases?
Mine got quite warm today .. when I was running Skype and QIP, waiting for some people to send me IM. In 5 minutes it become very warm. Not really hot, but it was certain CPU is working 100%.
WIFI, BT, GPS was all off.
When I closed Skype and let QIP run, it seemed to go back to normal in few minutes. Next time I must check Task manager.
haha Im living in canada and its really cold here in Ontario so i dont think it would get that hot
I've observed for a few days that my x1 also heats up. but not to a point that it almost could boils an egg. if if you google "Lithium Polymer WIKI" the battery characteristics is that it heats up to a point that it can explode. that's a downside of the battery though it is better than li-ion in terms of life cycles, it is even said there that you can't leave a li-poly battery inside a car and it explodes while attempting to charge it in a zippo bag.
Mines usually at 40 deg C with wifi on
What week did your Xperias get produced?
I use my Xperia almost everyday for internetacces on my laptop. This means that it's constantly turned on, and intensively using the HSDPA connection for hours long.
When this happens, my phone heats up as well, sometimes more than on other moments.
Is it normal ?
29.8 °C at the moment, just take it out of my pocket.
After 5-6min bowering with opera 33.7 °C start to feels lilte warm.
Still 33.7 °C after installing and uninstalling simply .cab file.
After soft rest still 33.7 °C
Change to media panel play some music and watching videos 35.0°C, feels warm.
Sometimes I can get it 37-40°C in normal use, installing some .cab's and using some random programs etc. It's warm but I think it's normal.
I think it's battery what heats the phone and what voltage/electricityis it's using at the moment, more and longer using programs,
wifis, etc it uses more power and heats the battery, and when there is no any fans or etc cooling it only heats,
after u let it down in your hand and let it cool. Sounds logical to me.
Highest temperatur that I heve get to my xperia is 48°C, It was ****ing hot and it rly never can get that hot whit normal situation,
playing music, bowering, etc. It was in charge, never happened again,
normal charge temperatur in my x1 is 40°C or lilte higer.
Hope this gives some answers.
Sry for my english btw.
my fone is at 46C now... im chargin it from pc usb n talkin on da fone using BT the weather now is about 27C... sometimes i get like 48C 49C when in da car using tomtom 7 for about 1 to 2 hour... n da weather outside is only 50F...
is this normal?? will my fone explode??
I've had my Galaxy S for a week and of all the reported problems the worst for me is the phone gets hot sometimes in use and while charging. I checked in the application system I downloaded from the android market and it showed temperatures up to 53 degrees celsius. This makes the phone impossible to hold to the ear for a phone call and even internet browsing difficult as it gets too hot to touch.
As a side note unless the carphonewarehouse offer you a 7/14 day return policy don't buy from them. I'm having problems now because of it.
I can't post links to the pictures I took showing this as my account is still new, but it's on picasa web album under galaxy s temperatures and I can send you the link in a message if you want.
Has anyone else experience this problem?
I did notice that the phone can get quite warm at times. But for me even after 1hour in the sun outside the phone wasn't uncomfortable to touch. Much less to hot to hold to the ear.
My phone is charging right now and temp is 44 degrees centigrade. But considering the room-temp is almost 35, its not that bad. I'd rather have my phone becoming a bit warm than it taking forever to charge.
Ive only noticed this when gaming and charging from AC, its not that big a problem for me really, all smartphones suffer from this to some degree. My old Touch HD would get really hot if just wifi was active which is more annoying than this.
Well I have the desire as well and had many smart phones in the past that got warm but never as hot as the galaxy s, nor as frequently when used. It doesn't stay hot, but when it gets hot I can't put it to my ear to phone people. It happens mid call after I've use the phone for awhile.
Well that doesnt sound right, mine doesnt get hot like that, so perhaps yours is faulty?

Same here (USB also)
but other than that the phone remains colder than my HTC Magic.
It does get hot sometimes during calling but not that much.
I just got a new one (old one replaced) and I'm disappointed I'm suffering from this problem also. Mine also reaches up to 53 degrees.
have same problem but....
I downloaded a app "Advanced Task Killer" and killed all the apps that were working in background and i use from time to time, like YMessenger, Mail....
now the phone even if its charging the temp is between 35C and 40C. and maybe the battery will not discharge that fast
well it gets warm here 2 . but i had the same with my iphone 3g .i think its the working of the processor that makes it hot .its the same as with a pc when you run it to its high performance it gets hot 2

that sounds like normal
my old HTC Athena, gets really hot after long sessions of WiFi, 3G, or GPS, and in the SGS i get similar temperature when using the same stuff.
no heat from Bluetooth, or at least it's not noticeable
but ALL cell phones gets hot after long voice conversations.
Some times
Allways when im playing games my SGS gets pretty hot but not in AC .
From the troubleshootig section of the manual -
Your device is hot to the touch
When you use applications that require more power or use
applications on your device for an extended period of time,
your device may feel hot to the touch. This is normal and
should not affect your device's lifespan or performance.
It gets quite hot sometimes. Battery might rise from 33C in idle to around 45C on load.
I think it is the GPS chipset doing really weird calculations. That happened to me in the hardest math classes in college. Whenever I was totally lost and clueless about something during a calculus test I'd always get nervous and hot and sweaty.
Never killed me tho. I think the SGS will be fine even while hot.
I had the VIbrant for a week now.. i can't really say its gotten hot... maybe once.. but its not something severe, because i can't really remember how hot it was...
but from my research... iPhone4 is doing it, people complained they couldn't hold it close to their face while talking..... All the 1ghz SnapDragon's been doing it...there has been reports of the device too hot to even charge....even the underlcocked Acer Liquid E....
I've actually overused it the first few days...i can't really recall this happening to my phone...
Charging with screen on made my SGS rather hot. So now I try to leave the screen off when charging. Come winter that might change, not always a disadvantage to have something hot in a cold car
Seems to get hot in a location around the SIM card area on the phone when charging from USB or AC.
Not worried about it though.
Today try out the Fancy Widget, but later uninstalled it, I already disabled auto refresh everything, but my SGS get overheated and battery down by 50% just in 5 hours.. ......Anyone know why?
charging time
How long does your phone takes to charge ?
Mine takes about 3-4 hour hours on pc usb and about 3 hours on power adapter come with the phone.
My HTC tytn2 with extended battery 2800 only takes 2.5 hours to charge over the pc usb charge.
Mine's getting a little bit hot after trying some 3d games (asphalt i.e, i don't play too much) or clips (few minutes). it seems to have a particular "hot spot" at the portion of the sim card/sd card, the rest of the phone feels quite cool, and i can hold it without any hassle.
Charging the phone at the moment. 42 celcius.
Are you using setcpu? 10 mins ago I was using setcpu and noticed my phone gotten hot suddenly - I didnt do any sort of ocing. Checked the temperature and was shocked to see 53c Uninstalled it and the temperatre returns to a more acceptable level
Hello everybody!
My friend is a "happy" owner of HTC HD 7. He is very happy with it and like W7 and stuff (I'm more android person, but it doesn't matter ). This morning after disconnecting the phone from the charger, he realised that the bottom part of the phone is very hot. He knows that after charging the phone is warmer then normal, so he ignored it and he put the phone into his pocket. After some time, the temperature of that bottom half didn't change which made it uncomfortable to carry it in the pocket. He has also noticed that the battery was discharging very fast, faster then normal. He checked if the battery is warm, but it wasn't. He decided to turn it of and back on again, few times so maybe it would could down, but each time it was turning off and on it was heating up even more. Furthermore, texting and browsing became impossible as sometimes the touch screen doesn't react. He also has noticed that when he is using the phone, the speaker is emitting weird crackling noises. Any suggestions?
Sorry that its a bit long, but its a direct translation of what he send me
any phone can heat up but in most cases the memory card is the cause. as a matter of fact HD7 does not really have an internal memory despite what most of people think, it's maybe because of how much the memory is being used. so i suggest your friend to hard reset his device!
have a nice day!
I suggested that my self. He said that he done it many times and it didn't help.
if i had his problem, i would flash another rom to find out if it is because of the hardware or software....although it seems a hardware problem to me. but i was in his shoes... i made sure that i can't do anything more before i take my phone to a repairman!
He has flashed new software and it still overheating. Now he is looking for the receipt
2 days ago when putting the phone in the water afterwards the screen started to flicker, closing it for a while decreased the frequency of the flickering however this did not resolve it, I did the device tests which came out fine however the brightness is stuck and increasing/decreasing it won't make a difference, touch is operational. Phone is 4 months old, software updated a week ago (did not put in water since), have yet to try restoring. Help is appreciated!
Put it in a bowl of rice for a day. Maybe water somehow got into it.
Hi there. Unfortunately, my 6 days old redmi 9, under a tragic but also hilarious circumstance, was found at the bottom of a 2,5m deep well full of water for about 4 hours!!!!! Do we have a record here or what?
As soon as I got it out of the water, I have rubbed its circuits with isopropanol and I dried it out for about 48 hrs using a dehumidifier
Now, 20 days since, it still works quite well... The screen has lost a lot of its luminance, but despite that seems fully functional!
BUT...
The only issue I cannot handle is that, as soon as the screen gets off, the mobile is repeatedly rebooting. When the screen is on, everything is OK!
Damn! The only trick I found to make my phone usable is letting an app working in the background while the screen is off. Yes, this is working but is battery-consuming. For this reason, I used a music player (misicolet) in an endless repeat mode.
Any ideas guys???
