Submerged redmi 9 still alive - 4hrs underwater - Redmi 9 / Poco M2 Questions & Answers

Hi there. Unfortunately, my 6 days old redmi 9, under a tragic but also hilarious circumstance, was found at the bottom of a 2,5m deep well full of water for about 4 hours!!!!! Do we have a record here or what?
As soon as I got it out of the water, I have rubbed its circuits with isopropanol and I dried it out for about 48 hrs using a dehumidifier
Now, 20 days since, it still works quite well... The screen has lost a lot of its luminance, but despite that seems fully functional!
BUT...
The only issue I cannot handle is that, as soon as the screen gets off, the mobile is repeatedly rebooting. When the screen is on, everything is OK!
Damn! The only trick I found to make my phone usable is letting an app working in the background while the screen is off. Yes, this is working but is battery-consuming. For this reason, I used a music player (misicolet) in an endless repeat mode.
Any ideas guys???

Froyo + magnet = battery trouble?

Ok, this is going to sound odd but I need to know if our G1 phones with froyo installed could be "held on " if near a magnet when not in use.
I rooted my wifes G1 to match what I have in mine(chromer4.5). She has always had hers stock until now. After I got it all set up, the battery was horrendous while mine was fine. Same phone same age. She did install a couple of widgets I was not familiar with so I removed them 1 at a time. I removed a clock last night and left the phone, battery at 55 percent, on the table not charging. This morning, about 8 hours later, it was at 54 percent. I was sure the clock wan't it but I said "what the hell" and gave it back to her declaring the problem over. She charged it to full and stuck it in her case. By lunch it was at 35 percent. I was stunned. The only difference was it was in her case, one that closes with magnets in the flap. I know there is a car dock app for other phones that can use a magnet to turn on.
If any one actually took the time to read all that, is it possible there is some driver using the compass sensor to keep the phone running in the background when near a magnet?
Thanks,
I highly doubt this was a magnet. Its possible and no electronic device should be near a magnet anyway. But not sure. Did you check if she had more running processes going on than you? Is her screen set brighter than yours. Does she have her screen set to turn off at a certain time. Could of pressed against the case. Popped her screen on. And stayed on? This are all things to think about maybe.

I'm still trying things. I have mine "cooking" in the case now and the results so far are not conclusive. I lost 10 percent in 1 hour with phone doing nothing. I will keep trying different combinations until I think I know exactly what the pattern is. I have tried to set everything the same.
My next test will be to turn the phone around in the case. The magnet location is between the word 'google" and the camera.
I will also try to lay the magnet in the same spot and get a logcat to see if anything starts.
Any news yet? Id like to know. I'm learning from you also uno

I have tried so many things its hard to bring you up to date but I am 100 percent sure the case is the source of the battery loss.
I used the case for a day while my wife just kept her phone in a pocket. I was down to 20% in 4 hours of very light use while she had 83% left after 9 hours.
I do have an additional theory for why it drains the battery. It could be blocking the signal so the phone is constantly seeking signal while in the case.
Today she is going to put the phone in the case with the screen facing the magnets.
I will post the results of the test.
Hmmmmm wierd

The case must be pressing buttons on the phone, if ditching the case does not solve the problem.
-charge phone to %100
-turn off phone unplug charger
-reconnect charger and wait for led to turn green
-turn on phone and repeat until phone says %100 instantly and led turns green instantly.
^ This fixed my battery problems i recommend you try it either way (you might get some extra battery life).
Froyo + magnet = battery trouble ? why ?

Screen mysteriously broke, now overheating

My phone has UB and been using different custom roms, but nothing outside of stock roms. I never overclocked it, but the top half of the phone would get warm from normal use. After using it for about a half hour I put it on the bed, with nothing else near it. I was the only person in the room, and after 10 minutes, I picked up my phone and realised the screen was broken. The phone was cold, so i realised my air conditioning was directly blowing onto the phone for the past 10 minutes. So i assumed, it was the hot and cold mixture that caused the LCD to shatter into 5 hairline cracks.
I recently carried it to a very good technician, who replaced my LCD with a witrigs.com replacement screen. He did a very good job, but from day 1 i've noticed the upper half of the phone gets hot randomly throughout the day with little use. The longer I keep the screen on, the hotter the phone got, and sometimes i would use the phone for long periods without it getting extremely hot. Today I tried to use the camera in broad sunlight and I got the error that the camera had to close to cool down my Xperia.
Does anyone have any tips as to why its over heating or what could solve it? I've tried different roms and kernels but nothing changes.
You can see at the bottom of the phone is where the crack started and it split thruout the entire LCD
Hello, my z1 was also heating by normal use. Then the screen broken. Why ever.
Yesterday I got my new z1 from the provider. No heating (I play Ingress) all things fine again

[Q] Z1 screen flickering

2 days ago when putting the phone in the water afterwards the screen started to flicker, closing it for a while decreased the frequency of the flickering however this did not resolve it, I did the device tests which came out fine however the brightness is stuck and increasing/decreasing it won't make a difference, touch is operational. Phone is 4 months old, software updated a week ago (did not put in water since), have yet to try restoring. Help is appreciated!
Put it in a bowl of rice for a day. Maybe water somehow got into it.

What keeps waking up my screen?

Stock MM, rooted/Xposed/TWRP.
If I leave my phone sitting face up on my desk, sometimes the screen will come on for about 1-2 seconds for no apparent reason. It's not a full wakeup, because the screen times out really quickly.
It seems to be random, it only seems to happen a couple times a day.. honestly it's usually in my pocket so I wouldn't see it, so I'm not really sure how often it happens. So far it's happened twice in the 4 hours or so I've been sitting here.
I have all that "wave-over" stuff turned off.
I seem to remember it happening with LP too.

Brand New Pixel 5, battery seems awful

I upgraded to a Pixel 5 because my Pixel 2 XL was experiencing hardware issues and was going to die. Among them were battery degradation that was leaving me with maybe 3 hours screen on time from a full battery.
The Pixel 5 so far has been barely better. Additionally I went to bed last night with about 79 percent battery, I woke up around 48 percent. I have no idea what's going on but this is fresh out of the box, I got it Thursday like everyone else in the USA. Is this normal? Can anyone suggest how to figure out what's causing this drain?

I loose 4% overnight. Maybe an app is running in the background. Check WiFi for poor connection or background scanning.
Sent from my Pixel 5 using XDA Labs
You might wanna FDR and start fresh. Sounds like something might be hung up from the setup. All reports about battery have been stellar so far.

I did have scanning on, so I went and turned them off. I have a Verizon variant, so I can't root. Do you have any recommendations for how to track down a rogue app or service that might be draining the battery?

I did do the setup where you transfer data from your old device. I guess maybe I need to bite the bullet and do it fresh.
Do you know anything about the... I think the setting is called Always On Display or something like that. The setting where when the phone is locked and the screen is off, it always displays the time and notification icons. I had it on my Pixel 2 and it worked great, it's almost necessary for me at this point. I have it turned on also on the 5, but it seems...finicky? At times it shuts off, especially at night. I used to keep my Pixel2 on my nightstand (just laying flat, not on a stand or anything) and the time would be on all night so I could see it at night if I woke up. With the 5 it seems to shut off in the dark. Additionally periodically during the day it sometimes all of sudden jumps to really high brightness, then back down to dim, sometimes it turns off completely and I have to hit the power button or the fingerprint reader to unlock the phone. Even doing the tap to wake doesn't work. Actually that double tap to wake doesn't seem to work at all regardless.
Any info on any of those issues you know about? I've been searching around and I've found basic references to some stuff with that always on display but no direct threads or anything specific.

Not too sure about AOD, I just went with defaults. But last night, my first with the P5, I unplugged at full charge and 7 + hours later it was at 100%. That's never happened but it was face down and on DND. Nonetheless, check out this thread, download the app, non root needs certain permissions, and let it run for a day or so. It should show you what you need to know.

Did you make sure to charge the phone to 100% before using it??? These lithium ion batteries need to be charged to the max if you want them to last. My pixel 5 wasn't even fully charged it was somewhere around 65% out of the box. I would leave it charging for a half hour or so once it hits 100% just to be sure.
I mean.. this is mine.

That's incredible. Next time include all 3 screens please. I could get 12 hours of on screen time all on wifi. Let's see you get that on 5G.
Real world battery is best.
I'm seeing great battery life like many others.
I started using AccuBattery Pro. How accurate is the estimated capacity given by the app? Anyone have any experience?
For me the app is estimating battery capacity to be 4,490mAh which is obviously way above the advertised capacity.
Coming from a worn out pixel 2xl this 5 is fabulous the battery is great. I accidentally left the flashlight on for an hour and it barely drained it. The battery is exceeding my expectations. Screen on time at 5 hours and I'm just at 49% with 10 hours remaining. I'm satisfied for sure
Also on Verizon, but no issues for me. Battery life has been amazing, I didn't charge last night (unintentional) and I was going until this afternoon, with mostly light usage. I've never experienced something like that before.
So in case anyone is interested in this, I actually have a hardware defect that was discovered by a user on reddit.

The gist is that the proximity sensor is (i think) detecting that something is up against it all the time. This creates issues with things such as the phone screen not turning on when you pull the phone away from your ear when on a phone call, Issues with tap to wake and lift to wake not working, and Ambient display/always on display (whatever it's called now) constantly changing brightness and/or shutting the display off completely. Literally the phone could be sitting there on the table and all of a sudden the always on display goes to max brightness, then down to dim, then up, then shut off completely. I assume all this craziness is hitting the battery hard.
I am trying (although frustratingly) to get Verizon to exchange it for a new phone. My phone acts exactly like in that thread. There's a proximity sensor app that will detect when something is near it and change color. Mine is solid colored and won't change unless you press on the glass near the sensor. Just in case anyone else has this issue come up, there it is.
I'm at 5 hours of screen on time and 17 hours use. The battery is exceptional and I can dedicate more time to work online because of it.
It sounds like you have ported a troublesome app over from your old phone to be honest. I think a factory reset would fix it.

Mine says 3,900mAh and hasn't changed for two weeks, which irritates me. Battery life is... okay.
Curious
I'm losing apprx. 6-10% while I sleep. seems a little excessive compared to other testimonies. I have to usaul social media apps, messeging apps no gaming, no AOD.
Any insight is appreciated.
I aslo did the FR with copying from older phone as suggested in the thread.

I just finally got my replacement last night from Verizon. Too early to tell if it fixed my battery issues because I had to set everything up and such. But If you have those issues, I would get a replacement. That's a faulty phone.
