Hey so my google cardboard kit finally came in the mail today the I am cardboard version from amazon. It was only 20$ and I couldnt resist not trying it lol. Anyway I got everything assembled in about two minutes the only problem was the lenses had dust from the cardboard on them so I just got a peace of scotch tape and cleaned them. I got the version with the nfc tag and it dosnt work, however the magnet in the cardboard app does witch is good. My main gripes are you can slightly see the edges of the phone if your not looking at it dead on and you can see the lens holders. Also I tried watching godzilla using vr cinema pro and I had about 35 minutes left before my battery got down two 14% although I did start it at around 80% so full charge should get through a movie and yes watching a movie on it is amazing but your definitely going to want a 1080p copy or your going to see pixels my godzilla copy was 720p so I could see them. If you do decide to get google cardboard I definitely recommend putting some kind of tape were your forehead sits because the oils will destroy it pretty fast if you have any questions feel free to ask me.
Could you share some pic. And link of cardboard please?

although i would recommend dodocase cardboard its 5$ more but the lenses dont have the notches over them.
okay so after digging around i found a player called sbs video player it scales really good and its just playing the movie. The issue with stuff like vr cinema is its having to render the theater and the movie so its like trying to play a game while watching a movie at the same time and the result is it kills your battery and overheats your phone lol
just incase anyone was wondering i added padding and a head band and its way better now

If you want something more comfortable than cardboard, search for "colorcross vr" on ebay, you can get these for only $30.
Anyone got colorcross vr? It looks way better than others, for just $20.

Hello,
Anyone know where i can get armband for the Dell streak, its hard to find one that fits 5" screen.
Thanks
LOL.....you are kidding aren't you?
dude......you need to go buy yourself an iphone so you dont go asking stupid questions like that around here again
I actually run in the mornings as well and have ALWAYS used my phone for my mp3 player when i do so, I would also like to know if anyone as found one.
My daughter would like to have her mp3 player back since i basically jacked it from her and wont give it back. Hers even has the micro sd slot so i can even listen ot my own tunes and i am not settled with her chick music crap. but it does not have blue tooth so i can use my stereo blue tooth headset that i have used for the past 3years. (i really got used to the no wire thing)
I also bike ride too and would love a way to strap it to my arm or somthing for that as well.
try a backpack... or one of those ancient things called a "fanny pack"
I suppose you could slip in under your sweat band...
I actually tried an old sweatband but it did not hold it very well. it would not even hold it accross the room.

have you tried tucking it into your panties
...just a thought
The problem with waist band type holders when jogging is that area takes a lot of shocks from landing feet which I think is partly why arm bands were invented in the first place. The Streak is too big to fit comfortably on the arm though I'd have thought.
Take a look at skiing accessory suppliers - a lift pass holder might work if you can find one large enough.

yea...i guess we will just have to wait till some company make one, till then we can't really use the streak while exercising.

" oh man i love my new laptop, i just wish it came with a armband so i could surf the web while im running"
in all seriousness though. a wrist strap would be a better idea since the phone functions in landscape. now that sh*t would be scifi. hell all you need to sort that out would be a rubber skin and some black nylon straps

Now that I would get.
What you need is a Cell-mate, Google it. Would be perfect for your needs and you can do away with the silly wires too then
what a bunch of obnoxious arses people have become lately..
I think I'll join in as well!
I'd quite like an armband for my streak, and it doesn't look too big on me, but then I'm not a 15yr child like some of the posters here are behaving like!
I use mine while exercising, i use it everyday cycling to work. I've taken to keeping it in a rigid sunglasses holder and have a belt fitting for that, but its not ideal although mytracks and mixzing running over bluetooth. Mytracks voice announce feature is superb.
But for navigation I need a better solution as I need to see the screen.
I don't understand what the big deal is here. I would like an armband too. Sure, I could get an MP3 player, but why? The streak plays MP3's. In addition to that, wearing it on your upper arm would work just fine with the landscape format...just lift your arm up a bit (as if you were looking at your watch) and it should rotate so that you can read things normally.
I got this thing so it could satisfy as many of my needs as possible. Using it at the gym to track my workout and listen to music falls under that category.
i was begining to think i was the only one that honestly was interested in this (other than the original poster) Thanks for chiming in guys.
I also wouldn't mind getting an arm strap, as long as it was designed well and not just a pocket that then wraps around your arm cos the then it wouldn't sit on your arm properly and would eventually swivel, loosen and then fall off due to the gap (phone being wide and flat and your arm being round).
I currently use a waist pouch fanny pack p*ss bag (its yellow ) thingy along with my bluetooth headphones and it works perfectly for me at the mo but then again, I don't run on the treadmills so I wouldn't know how it would cope then (I either cycle or use the Xtrainer). Still, nothing wrong with wanting an arm strap!
I was looking through PSP accessories for goodies to maybe modify, but the PDAIR flip case should meet MY needs. Long wait for it to get here though.
Give the guy a break.
Try one of these. Not sure how well it does with the weight but I attach mine to a camel bak when mountain biking

I also use a bluetooth head phones for music so it can be sealed in. if you stick with wired head phones then you can half seal it in an still be secured

I'm close to pulling the trigger on buying a new note but I'm concerned it is too big to work out with.
I'm no Ironman, but I run a few miles 3 days a week and I really like streaming Pandora through my bluetooth headphones while recording my performance with Sports Tracker Pro + Zephyr Heart Rate Monitor.
I've seen a few threads discussing arm pouches and the aquapac. Does anybody here actually strap the note to their body for road running? Does it work ok?
So far the note looks like a great device for me, I don't care about games and I don't care what other people think. Screen real estate and usability are king for me but I would hate to give up my Android workouts.
I'm going to a running gear shop later this week to see what kind of pouches they have.
http://www.sportstracklive.com/user/DavidSmoot for an example of what I am talking about.
David
Personally it is too big for me . . I have a feeling the velcro would drop as you run as the phone is almost 200grams. i have the note and im thinking of buying or trading for a smaller phone / mp3 player for exercising
When the time comes (it's too cold outside) and i start jogging again, i won't take this beast with me I'll probably buy a Wildfire S or something small and use that when i'm out sweating and falling down mountains.
But i guess it could work with the Note, but it's really really big for that task. You'll end up with a huge arm! But just try it and see how it goes.
I run with it
I do, and have run with the Note. It not that too bad compared to my Atrix 4G. The first time I ran with it, I actually just held it in my hand the whole time, which is what I always did with my Atrix. It wasn't that uncomfortable and I don't have giant hands.
I tried looking for armbands that could hold the Note but was unable to find anything worth while. So this last time I ran I ended up jerry rigging an old CD player workout fanny pack into a makeshift armband for the Note.
It sounds terrible but the end result doesn't look bad at all and its pretty comfortable all things considered. I ran with it like that last night for a short 25 minute run and it was fine didn't slip much and because the pouch was orginally for a CD player the velcro flap was more than strong enough to hold the phone securely.
The Note is awesome for running thanks to its super fast and accurate GPS and giant battery.
I'll try to post some pictures of my setup when I get home.
I do almost every day. When I run at a slower pace I keep it halfway inserted in a tights pocket at waist line. This way it doesn't get cold.
For faster runs (intervals) I keep it in a pocket inside a running belt (also inside my jacket so it doesn't get cold).
The only problem is that GPS accuracy (even under free sky) is not that good when not using it for car navigation (where track is corrected to keep you on streets). I may run in a straight line but points are scattered left and right so real time speed accuracy is quite bad because now it says I'm running at 12mph 5 secs later it says I run at 5mph. While my speed is constant at about 6.5mph.
Size is not an issue but accuracy is so I will probably get a Garmin watch for running. I'm quite disappointed with that
I run for the train every day. I always have my note on me.

I use a waist belt pouch which holds the G Note quite well.
Besides the clip onto the belt there is another flap which will clip pouch on better.
Only problem is one has to wear a belt during the run, which some do not wear.
(Picture of pouch is enclosed below):
I run and use runkeeper, gps is so fast but honestly it's big
I bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150729459042&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:GB:1123
I "wear" mine in a Arm Pouch whilst running and throughout my workout in the Gym with no problems.
I do have to reposition it during some arm exercises.
I use Endomondo when I go running. Before I got my armband, I put it in a small pouch and then in my pocket just in case any sweat got in it. Now on my arm I don't need a pouch. But yeah, I guess it would be too big if you were wearing spandex with pockets! Other than that, it's great.
Hmm... I plan on biking with it very aggressively (always late commuter) daily.
I'll let you know when it gets here
Been looking at online stores for a
Tripod for my note 2. Id like to take steady pictures and video and play with my stop motion app.
The ones I found used magnets. Something I will avoid to save my spen.
Any one knows of a tripod. Maybe a case that will fit a tripod. Thanks

This looks great! Also liking the flex which might help me with my videos at short ranges.

I just ordered one of these.
I also stopped by BestBuy and got a Gorillapod (original) - since the iStabilizer SMARTLY uses the standard 1/4 20 screw threads.
I've got a PT Cruiser, and it's going to effing ROCK as a car mount on the Oh Sh** bar that that is on the passenger side dash - plus it'll be great for tripod use while taking pictures.
Modular + multifunction = WIN.
They have this Joby Grip Tight also.

I would like to mount my Note 2 on the handlebars of my road bike to track the GPS and maybe to take video and listen to music. Does anybody have any real world experience with the note and taking on the road? Thanks!
Have you checked out Amazon, I saw a few there. However, I'm not sure if any of them would fit the massive dimensions of the note 2...

THanks for your reply, but that spider doesn't look very secure. I wound up buying this from amazon:

I'm just hoping it will hold my Note2 in its Otterbox, fingers crossed!

This might be just what you want. I bought one and it just got here today. I am going to go ride around on my bicycle to test it. My case fits fine in it because of the different foam pads to adjust how much room there is.
After using it for a day my thoughts so far are only now positive and I can easily see and use the screen if I have to. The mount fits very securely to the bike and the case attaches to the mount though the two slots you can see on the back. I would recommend (after riding over some rough bumps) to make sure the two narrow slits are facing up when attached to the mount. This means in the pics you see on amazon the case, the headphone port is also facing up. What happened was I attached the case to the mount as seen in the product pictures and soon found this was not secure as the two pieces that fit in the back slots (in the pic below) would then be able to slowly slide up out of the narrower channels and allow the case to come off the mount with one good bump. Good thing there is also a ring to attach a lanyard cable; so I just got some string and a small carabiner to also clip it to my bike, just to be extra careful. But since leaving the orientation with headphone port at the top, there has been no repeat of the case popping off.
I received my Gear VR last night and want to post my unboxing and initial impressions. I've been a VR advocate for awhile now and was excited to finally get my hands on a virtual reality device.
A little about my history going into this.
I'm an avid gamer and was extremely excited about VR since the DK1, however I've never used any of the previous devices. Several times I have been tempted but decided to "wait for the next one with more upgrades" until I couldn't wait anymore and finally took the plunge.
BUILD QUALITY:
This thing feels solid enough, however it somehow manages to feel cheap as well...almost like a toy. It could be my bias against shiny plastic though, I wish they went with matte rubberized finish. Another fear that I have is the USB connector seems a bit flimsy. I've had USB chargers bend in the past, so it makes me wonder if it will hold up with all the docking and removing.
Packaging was nice, I love the hard case and extra foam insert they give you. The one that came on the Gear VR didn't have a nose bridge pad which made a gap between my nose and device (my nose must not have a big enough bridge). The alternative foam had the padding in the nose area which helped immensely.
USE:
SCREEN DOOR EFFECT. Everyone seems to play this down, maybe because they've been jaded by using the earlier devices which had super screen doors...not sure. This is my first VR device and I have to say, the screen door is very apparent. I can't imagine they would release it like this to consumers. Resolution needs to increase before they can market this.
I also had a hard time dialing this in to the point where it's clear and without haze. There always seems to be a a bit of haze around text and no matter what I do, turn the dial or lift and lower the goggle, the haze is still there...better...but still there. To give you all a point of reference, my PD for my eyes is 56 (pretty darn close together).
The experience is fairly good so over time you learn to forgive the screen door and haze, but I can't imagine this being consumer ready.
The best apps seem to be the ones which are computer generated. The movie theater is what I always go to when I want to show the capabilities, it's amazing. The Pacific Rim demo is pretty good too.
However, I'm not too impressed with the 360 videos. It doesn't seem like you are "really there" like everyone says. I still feel that it lacks a feeling of depth. It feels more like I am staring out of a bubble or clear globe of some sort. I still thing it has a ways to go.
Overall, I'm in-line with most the sentiments about this being a showcase product to show the POTENTIAL of VR to people. It's not super clear, it's almost immersive enough, but it's not quite ready for prime time yet. I don't think the current games are fun enough yet either. Overall, I can't do anything with this device at the moment other than watch movies and show people demos.
