Rooting my galaxy note n7000 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm new to this and I have looked everywhere on here (the answer prob is in here somewhere) but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for...
Basically I want to flash kernel without PC (if possible) using CWM. I was also hoping to put the latest (stable) CM ROM on it too. I reckon putting a custom rom on would require a PC.
Model number: GT-N7000
Android version 4.1.2
Baseband version : N7000XXLT3
Kernel version: 3.0.31-1103517 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT
Build number : JZ054K.N7000XXLT9
Yes the baseband and build are different (XXLT3 & XXLT9) if that means anything
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Either with links or the files attached below I won't mind at all!
Thank you

Neither rooting nor installing a custom rom requires a computer till you have an external sd.
Follow.. To install cm11
Philz kernel -> make backup -> raw kernel -> install rom and gapps

Have you already rooted or you want to root and flash a different kernel?
Well neither of those things should require you to absolutely have a PC if you can download stuff onto your device
Also here is a helpful thread on rooting
Something there might help ^^

[QUESTION]Flash Custom Kernel (CM7)

Hello All,
I used to run DarkyRom 10.2 Extreme. Now I am on Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS.
Phone Details:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 7.1.0-GalaxyS
Android Version: 2.3.7
Baseband Version: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1 - not sure what kernel this is??
Build Number: GWK74
~Questions:~
Can I flash a custom kernel over the top of this currently installed ROM (like I did when I flashed the JVT Modem to fix my data connection)?
I have read that the Recovery is stored in the Kernel - So if I flash a different kernel will it replace my CwM 5.0.2.6? (I have noticed there are different colours of CwM Recovery - is this because of the kernel?
Thankyou for any help

Yes you can flash custom kernels, just be sure that the kernel you flash is for Cm7/MIUI and not sammy stock ROM. I have tried Glitch myself a couple times, but I stay on stock CM7 kernel for the moment since i find it more stable.
Peace out!

1. Yes, but before flashing a new kernel flash this script.
2. Correct, but if I'm not mistaken all the major kernels have CWM5 (Platypus Neo 18, FuguMod, Glitch)
Also, you might want to switch to CM nightly #181 instead of 7.1 stable, just a suggestion. 7.1 is quite outdated.
Thankyou very much for the replies, I will flash the nightly tonight using ROM Manager

newbie back to latest stock rom.

Hey guys,
I've searched for a while now, but can't find a specific way to do this.
I want to flash my n7000 back to the latest stock rom from samsung. And since i rather not brick it.. am i searching for the best way.
Can i do this simply via Samsung KIES, or do i need to flash another kernel/rom first?
I am running 240dpi mod V2 rom ( N7000xxlsc)
And kernelversion says; 3.0.31 -593490 , [email protected] #3, SMP PREEMPT nov 2012
I don't care about a new kernel, i just want the latest stock rom since am tired of searching a rom that works better than stock for me.
:good:

I've got phillz safe kernel.
Can i just flash via phillz cwm instead of Odin? Would be alot easier :good:
You can't flash the .tar stock ROM files via CWM recovery. Maybe use Mobile ODIN PRO if u want, PC ODIN advised though.
Very useful thanks!

[Q] Is this guide correct? CyanogenMod 10.2 Android 4.3 on Galaxy Note N7000

Hi just got my self a Note 1 and are reading up on how to Root and install a custom rom.
I have the latest stock 4.1.2 and an unknown root with CWM. Was root on it when i bought it.
Kernel says 3.0.31-906407 ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #3 smp preempt Mon mars 11 17:57:42 KST 2013
Since i´m scared to emmc brick my note i´m very careful to read guides.
But i´m confused.. I fund this guide http://techiejerry.com/install-cyanogenmod-10-2-android-4-3-on-galaxy-note-n7000/
And these Gapps http://www.teamandroid.com/gapps/
Is it really this simple? No wipe at all? No brick bug risk there?
Is it the Devs that decides if you should use Odin or flash in CWM?
If the guide in my link is not right, please please link kernel and a stable rom for me with clear instructions. I can´t stand the slow and buggy stock Jelly Bean anymore.
I was very fond of Custom Stock ROM 5.0™ Edition on my SGS2, is the a similar rom fore Note?
I´m not a complete beginner on this, but different guides and the emmc brick bug is making me insecure on what to do.
And yes, i will read all can read here on xda, because i want to learn. But i need to start on solid ground so to speak

Nope, there isn't same ROM as on s2.
Seems like the installation guide is pretty good.
Just flash some good kernel like philz, then go to cwm, wipe data and system (make sure You format system) and then just flash new ROM. That's it. Wait for boot
Thanks for your answer.
Is there a similar rom based on stock Jelly Bean or just a custom rom based on stock Jelly Bean you can recommend?
Basically i´m looking for a stable rom with no issues.
Link to philz? There a few i think?
Did you mean this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Can i install all roms with that kernel?
Now i get confused.. you think it´s pretty good. But is does not say wipe data and system (make sure You format system).
So if i followed the guide it would have failed?? Yes?
Don't follow any guides not on xda. Period.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191

best way is try it for you to know whats fit best for you.. im using virginity v9 rom with ana2 baseband and virginity v4 for my kernel
It's much more responsive, more faster and uses lesser RAM compared to older versions of android 4.1.2
A s for the installation, just download this : http://live.samsung-updates.com/details/24398/Galaxy_S_3_Mini/GT-I8190/XEC/I8190XXANA2.html and flash it with odin You'll definitely see the difference.

I think not as I live in Sofia and everything works perfect
My actual S3 Mini has XXANA2 already into it and i'd like to just root it, but i don't find any tutorial about it (one about root with xxana2 already in it, not even google). Because the 1st time i've tried it ended up with the phone in a reboot sequence
My phone's a:
-Galaxy S3 Mini GT-I8190 (Free, Europe/Spain region!!!!)
-Android Version 4.1.2
-Base Version I8190XXANA2 (<--- THIS, XXANA2)

Rootswap not working with my kernel?

Hi, and thanks for your time!
I have flashed and rooted my GT-I9070 (with help from the XDA-forum of course!), all is working splendid!
However, because it only has 750mb RAM I want to use Simple RootSwap to expand my RAM a bit (because I don't have money for the roehsoft...). When I installed it and tried it all seemed working fine but no swap file was made on the SD card (a class 10 8GB card), instead it made the swap in the root of the phone. I installed roehsoft MemoryInfo/SwapCheck and tested it. Then the truth came out, my kernel doesn't support rootswap. Aarg!
For flashing my GT-I9070 I used: I9070XXLQE_I9070XENMP3_HOME.tar
If you couldn't tell yet, I am a complete noob at rooting/flashing/custom ROM's, so I'm hardpressed to find out how to fix this. Can I flash the kernel only, and if so: where can I find the appropriate one? Or do I need to flash to a new custom rom? And which one? I have searched around the forums but I can not reach an agreement with myself as to what thread to follow, so any advice or just pointing to the right thread would be greatly appriciated, thanks!
Device Specs:
Samsung GT-I9070 galaxy advance
Android: 4.1.2
Baseband: I9070XXLQE
Kernel version:
- 3.0.31-1122398
- [email protected]#2
