Hi all, back to an Android phone after a long time. It's a pre owned HTC M7 Sprint. I have received the Official 4.4.3 and sense 6 update, however, before proceeding wanted to ask fro help. Will updating make me lose root? Or S-Off?
Thanks,
Jude

I think you are in the wrong forum as there is not an upgrade to 4.4.3 for sprint yet.

As a general rule, you need stock recovery and stock rom to successfully execute the OTA update. So you will loose root but you should retain S-OFF.

How did you get an OTA 4.4.3 M7 Sprint update? When did it go out?
Like I said I'm new to all of this and could have made a mistake. The update is for sense 6, unsure about the rest. Advise now would be helpful.

As far as I know, the OTA 4.4.3 hasn't been sent out yet for the Sprint HTC One (M7). My understanding is it should be released any day now.

Hi all,
I've had my one since April on 3UK, it's completely stock. I'm fed up with waiting for 3 to push the 4.2.2 update, and want to get the OTA pushed to my device. How can I do this? I'm very confused with the whole rooting/unlocking etc.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

If you want the OTA, you'll have to wait for the OTA.
If you want 4.2.2, you need to unlock and flash a custom ROM.

I'm sure i'd seen a post about how to get the OTA...?
If I flash a custom ROM are there stock HTC ones available that would be the equivalent of the 4.2.2 OTA? (I'm thinking the answer is yes!)
Thanks

I assume you still have Hboot 1.44.000, so you can unlock and get S-Off with RevOne http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582 and get the OTA by changing the CID number. It is not that hard and it is reversible because you can downgrade to 4.1.2 if needed. Change CID in cmd: fastboot oem writecid.
You don`t need root for this procedure.
Best is to flash a custom 4.2.2 rom
Don't try to force the OTA. It requires making deep changes to your system files and settings. Simplest thing to do if you just want 4.2.2 is to flash a stock rooted 4.2.2 rom.

Well, hi
I was using on my m7 a rom for Developer Edtition a while, then GPE , but now I installed Developer Edition back and I can't get OTAs (4.1.2?)
So, what's the deal? I'm not using a supercid (I'm with BS_US001). What can be wrong? Because I lose a full day trying different roms, making a VM for Windows to try a RUU... and nothing
Thanks!
PD: Woops, I through I was on Q/A, a big mistake, can some mod move it please?
To get OTA's you need to be on a stock rom and stock recovery.

Yes. All you need is a stock rom and stock recovery. It doesn't matter if you're s-off/s-on bootloader unlocked/locked or supercid/other cid, but of course it's better to be s-off, bootloader unlocked and have superCID.
So, the zips available on htc one guru aren't stock? I tried that roms and nothing happened :/

Hahha no OTA updates, still with 4.1.2.
Well, I finally used a htc backup of some folk here and I finally have 4.4.2, but strange.
What's the correct method finally? I was tried with RUU Zip 1.29.1540.3 and Recovery 1.29.1540.3. No OTA received. (Using the correct cid and mid)
What carrier are you on? Not all of them have pushed out OTAs for 4.4.x, believe it or not. And you won't necessarily get older updates while you wait for it.

But shouldn't depend of carrier if I'm using an external rom, isn't? 4.1.2 is pretty old, when I bought the device was carring 4.3

Because it's the carriers that push out the OTAs.
Why did you roll back to 4.1.2 from 4.3?

Various reasons. I hate the company logo on the cellphone and bloatware, and I installed GPE to my HTC One for development :good:

Especially for 4.4.2, HTC official release was a bit longer than GPE (1month?) and I need to verify and fix some apps with 4.4.2 issues.
Hey guys, I just bought this phone yesterday from AT&T. Just out of the box I received an OTA update, which I thought was the KK update. But no, I am stuck on android 4.1.2 and Sense 5.0, and when I try to update, all I get is a message saying that everything is up to date and there are no updates available for me.
I am on the AT&T network at the time, and my phone is completely stock, no mod whatsoever. Any ideas what is going on????
You might want to exchange for a new unit or request for them to update, for all we know applying solutions suggested by us might just void the warranty instead.

use this RUU to get to 4.3 >> http://androidruu.com/getdownload.p...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
you need locked / relocked bootloader
being your on 4.1.2 now would be a great time to get s-off before doing the ruu update. check this guide for getting s-off

+1 .. do it now!
Lets say I don't do S-Off (i don't really know what that is, my earlier phone was a crappy samsung) and I do the update with the RUU, will I be able to do S-Off later???
The thing is that i don't want to void the warranty. Coming from a really bad phone, where I had to mod EVERYTHING to get it working acceptably, I would really like to settle down and be stock for a while. Of course, that feeling will probably last a few months and then I will be flashing roms every 2 days lol.
If I flash the RUU manually, that doesn't void the warranty right? I mean, its an official firmware i suppose. On the other hand, if I can only do the S-Off thing right now, i might consider staying a while longer with 4.1.2 ... after all it is not so bad.

Mmm I think I'll start reading more before I make any decisions. Eventually I will root and install custom rims and kernels, so I'd like to keep my options open. If it's HARD but not impossible I might upgrade and stay stock.
Would you say there's a big difference between 4.1.2 / Sense 5.0 and 4.3 / Sense 5.5 ???
It's not that hard really.. i decided to s-off when im already running a KK rom. Firewater worked like a charm.

Gain S-Off now, and forever be happy. I never cared about OTA when I had that phone, I could run any RUU I wanted to, I changed from ATT to Dev, to GPE and back so many times. Just awesome.

I previously rooted my HTC One when I was on Sense 5.5 a couple of weeks ago. What steps do I need to take before I can now update to Sense 6 without bricking my phone? Thank you!
Also I tried to update it but it just went into TWRP.

I have a normal edition Sprint HTC One M8 that is rooted with android version 4.4.4. I am still on the stock ROM. Whenever I got the phone, about 2-3 weeks ago, I wasn't aware that 5.0 was being released to the M8. So I updated to 4.4.4 through the OTA update and rooted. After rooting the system update popped up prompting me to update to version 5.0.
Now my question, is there an official rooted stock 5.0 ROM yet? I can't find it anywhere.
If there isn't, how do I go about updating to 5.0 from rooted 4.4.4?
Thanks,
Shawn
More info: this isn't the first time I've rooted phones. I've had an HTC EVO 4G and a Samsung Galaxy S3. This is just the first time I've had stuff not go as planned.
I tried to get S-OFF, however since "firewater" no longer works, and the only other way is SunShine, I can live with S-ON.

In order to take the OTA you need a stock rom (no modifications to system) and stock recovery.
Or option 2 is you can run the latest RUU

How would I go back to stock recovery and remove root?
Same question for RUU. I've only used RUU once on my EVO 4G to reset everything. Not sure if the process is the same for the One M8 or where I'd start lol

You flash stock recovery the same way you flash twrp, root should be ok I've never done an OTA I've always been s-off.
The rom you are on should also be ok unless you removed a bunch of bloat.
The RUU will wipe your device...back up anything important to your PC.
Side note: Every time there is an update and you like custom roms most require the firmware to be updated in order for them to work properly.
Updating firmware with s-off only takes a couple minutes and a lot less hassle then if you are s-on... so I would recommend biting the bullet and using Sunshine if at all possible.

I plan on staying with the stock ROM, just rooted so I'm gonna skip S-OFF. Never had an issue with it being on on my EVO (I flashed dozens of ROMs and stuff on it).
I'm ok with RUU wiping everything. I purposely haven't put much personal data on the phone cause I knew I'd be wiping within the next few weeks.
I'm gonna go the RUU method as everything will be fresh and unmodified.
Thanks for your help!
