Does anyone know if Helium (formerly Carbon) works with this phone? I saw a note that it didn't work with the Xperia Z but didn't know if that meant the entire Z series of phones. Unfortunately I don't have my phone to be able to test this.
I want to be able to restore some game data from my Samsung S4 once I have my z3c back, but I won't have root in order to use titanium backup. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Yes, Helium works fine. I can confirm this. The easiest way I've found to do it is just to back everything up to your PC, and then restore from there.

Hey guys
how can I make a backup of my games progress and apps data
My phone is not roooted now
and what exactly sony backup and restore app backs?
I want to flash kitkat and i don't want to lose my progress in asphalt 8
thanks
Sony backup stores all app data including save games but a backup for older android version won't work in new one i.e. Kitkat.
The best option is to root and use Titanium Backup.
P.S. If you are on stock 4.3 and cant root, you can backup all your apps via Sony backup and then downgrade to 4.2. The backup from new version works on old version (surprisingly). Then just root and use Titanium backup.
You may need to give Helium a try.
So I have a Moto X that cannot be rooted. I recently got it. I have my old phone currently. However since it cannot be rooted, I cannot use titanium backup. I tried using my backup pro but it didn't migrate any of the data in the apps. So all of my games progress was gone and is still currently on my old phone. Anyone have any insight? Thanks.
Nothing you can do.... Not that I've heard of.
Not as good as Titanium but you can use Helium...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en_GB
From Chainfire so you can trust it
Or, download the Moto-X toolkit and make sure you have the adb drivers for your old phone installed then plug in your old phone and use the Moto-X toolkit and you can backup either individual apps from or your entire phone then once the backup is complete plug in your Moto-X and restore.
Works :victory:
Hey,
I've run into an issue. I'm upgrading from my XT890 to a Z3 compact. The XT890 is rooted but I don't want to root the Z3 Compact as it has issues with the camera once rooted. I'm looking for a way to backup the app data and settings from my XT890 and restore it to the Z3 compact.
I've tried Helium but helium isn't supported on Motorola devices. I've tried holo but it didn't work. I won't be able to do it with titanium backup as this would require the Z3 to be rooted I think and it seems every other app requires root to get the data and settings?
If anyone has any ideas, please share!

There are only 2 ways to backup app data:
1) root
2) adb backup & restore
As you mentioned already, there is no root available right now for the z3c without unlocking the BL (which will remove the DRM keys), so you can forget anything that uses method 1) (mybackup, titanium backup,...)
Your only option is option 2)
Helium uses option 2 and there is a bug with all Moto phones running JB that adb backup won't work.
Now this is your only chance:
Update your Razr I to KK and try helium / adb backup there. If it works, then yeyy!
If adb backup / helium still won't work, then there is no way to transfer your app data to an unrooted device.
Thanks a lot for such a helpful reply and clarifying what I was hoping wouldn't be the case. I'm running a non stock rom on my XT890, so the effort going to update it to KK on the off chance of helium working, would be better spent just configuring settings of the apps on the Z3. There's thankfully not TOO much more to do as I've already done a lot so this will be my choice. Thanks again for the very helpful reply!
Does anybody know a way without having to reset the whole device to root my S5 Mini? I just wanna make a backup of all my games etc with Titanium Backup Pro but the phone needs to be rooted for that?
Or : can I make a full backup of my game progresses etc without rooting?

For titanium you need to have root access
Full backup can be done without root you can do it with a custom recovery (twrp)

How can I do that custom recovery you speak about?
You can backup Your apps by using Helium from PlayStore and a USB connected PC.
Very nice gonna try that!!
I'm trying (with no success) to run Helium Backup on my Note 8.
HB doesn't claims that my device is using MTP, while actually I'm using PTP.
Any ideas?

Helium hasn't work properly for me since Nougat was released. It backs up a few apps then errors out. I can only get 20 or so apps backed up before it fails. I've emailed the developer but no answer so I think he's stopped supporting Helium.
What I do now is use Helium to backup up a few apps that I need to keep the data for then use SmartSwitch for the rest of my apps. Helium still restores apps & data correctly.
I was able to run Helium.
I was using ADB to connect to the Note 8, and then was able to run Helium. BUT the app that I need to backup is blocking the backup... seems that only Titanium can do the job....
Its crazy to think that in 2018 Android still cannot have a non-rooted app to backup all data from apps on a phone. I do not understand why Google or Samsung don't have this done yet. I have also tried Helium with partial success, but like previous comments, it too fails after a while. I have tried everything on the book and it always fails at some point. Very frustrating. There are plenty of apps that will backup your APKs by themselves but none that I know of that back up all data on all the apps. I've even tried ADB commands which don't seem to work correctly either.

I totally agree.
For that reason, on some time I will have to root the device in order for TB to work.
Cant get any better than tb in my opinion [emoji16]

TB needs to be able to work without root though.... otherwise you are comparing apples and oranges/ The app has been around forever. It needs to figure this out even if it has to involve connecting to a pc.
Backing up with root regardless of Titanium or not is much easier.
Agree 100% with Amir77's post
I've been trying out Helium, in order to get some of my app data ported from my non-rooted Sony stock Android Xperia XZ to my rooted Xperia Z (with LineageOS running on it), all I can say is that it was a pain in the ass to get it working on my XZ, but it eventually worked, and now I'm like stuck on my Z; Helium just keeps loading and loading and nothing happens.
So yeah, I agree, Titanium Backup needs to work without root as well. Xperia Transfer Mobile doesn't allow receiving app data (and other stuff) to non-Sony devices, and not even to Xperia devices with custom-ROMs, so I'm pretty much stuck here. If I get this working, I'll only be using rooted devices with custom-ROMs on them, and never bother with stock Android from Sony (or any other OEM). If this taught me something, it's that custom-ROMs mean freedom and power to the individual. Of course I knew that before this app data ordeal, but this was the final nail in the coffin for OEM stock Android (proprietary crap!).
