1TB iPod... Because why not?? - Off-topic

Well I've been tinkering with my 5th gen IPod. Had it turned to an iMod which bypasses much of the logic board and solders a wire directly from the DAC to the line out dock. From there I run the signal into a Leckerton UHA 6S.MKII amp. My LOD is a solid Mundorf silver. Neither the amp or ipod have DC blocking capacitors so it gives it a very neutral sound.
For my IEMs I'm using Westone W40 IEMs. Quad armature IEMs.
I was using a 128gb SD card as the hard drive, but decided to upgrade a bit. So I put in a 1TB msata drive, Samsung EVO.
Now to start adding tons more FLAC files.

That's pretty sweet man. I like.

Sound quality is good?
I use NZW-ZX1 along side with my 1st Ipod...

Thanks. Yea sound quality is amazing. Wolfson DAC, by passed logic board. It's a very pure signal. I'm definitely addicted to it. I bought the iPod new in 2007 and have used it probably an average of 3-4 days a week since. Been on 3 deployments with me.

Nice man! Thanks! That's pretty awesome. Yea I had a lot of guidance and most of the testing was done by members over at Head-Fi. I had the iMod portion done by Red Wine Audio. I don't have the workspace or soldering skill for such modding. At least not yet. The nice thing about the mod is that it improves sound quality, but doesn't affect the headphone output of the iPod itself. So if you are satisfied with the sound quality from the iPod, you could walk around with 1TB of music in just the size of an iPod classic. It's really quite crazy to see how far the modding and how far music has come in the last 10 years or so.
Alas though, everything I learned about building a Terapod, came from cmarti, dr408517, and Dminor over at headfi, who were the real pioneers. Huge kudos to Tarken who designed an amazing msata adaptor as well.
Here is a link where we discussed it for anyone how wants to upgrade their iPod.
Link: Head-Fi SSD iPod thread.

I'm no audio person by any means, but reading headfi finally got me into buying a nice set of IEMs, OEMs and DAC/amp. Dude the sound is great. I'm hard hearing, so its great to finally be able to listen to music and enjoy it again.

No kidding. Its true what they say..."Welcome to Headfi, sorry about your wallet"
Since starting on headfi I've bought a nice set of headphones, a nice set of IEMs and sunk more money into my iPod setup than I care to admit. Heck I could have bought an Astell&Kern AK240. But then I wouldn't have 1TB of FLAC in my pocket

It actually does fit in my pocket. However I mostly use it at home when relaxing or when I'm working. However, you can go slim it down by removing the amp. That's just for volume control and some of my higher impedance headphones. If I wanted I could plug the IEMs directly into the iPod itself. So really the 1TB iPod is no bigger than any other iPod. In fact, you can upgrade a 7th Gen iPod with a slim back plate and have a normal thin 1TB iPod.
I only use the line out, and amp for better sound quality. :good:

I must admit, I despise Apple with a passion but still.... that's pretty damn impressive:highfive:

i think the Ipod touch should need a 1tb flash memory just because the classics are gone but Ebay somehow has a 1tb Ipod classic custom apple need to make it official they are the original brand in there own Revoulution's peek so means by if necessary make all Ipod touch and Iphone in it's own special way and version software i mean think about it they focus on Iphone's and Imac's watch's ect so much we hardly get any recognition with the Ipod touch what is to come of today's world of storage for apple in 2017 as Airpods huge delay finally over and available in stores this coming Monday limited stock Airpods true wireless will be hard to find available in stock as far as apple store and other apple retailers this has been a huge year for apple in the world of today's wireless technology with Christmas coming up and with the Iphone 8 with wireless charging coming up in 2017 speculation's with high volume electronics production and products chants stakes can not be more higher and what better way can we start developing could we see some more movement with the Ipod touch.

Dope as fukc. How big is your library? lmao

Damn! This thing bounced back up lol. To be honest my library is only about 180GB- for now. But that's just music, no videos. But it's growing. I now import all music in Lossless formats.
I actually switched the 1TB msata drive to a 256GB SD card. This helps to conserve battery power. Plus the 1TB msata proved less reliable and susceptible to corruption, and other issues.
The gentleman that created the msata adapter subsequently came out with the iFlash Quad.
https://www.iflash.xyz/store/iflash-quad/
This adaptor allows you to switch out the iPod HDD for an adapter that can accommodate up to FOUR micro SD cards at once. The micro SD cards are run in a RAID format. The neat thing is the micro SD cards DO NOT have to be the same size. SO you can just grab what you have laying around.
He also had an adapter that can accommodate dual SD cards, which can be purchased in a 512GB capacity each for a full TB
So many options. Plus you throw in a big ass battery and your set.
If you have an iPod Classic laying around and want to make it one of a kind or breath new life into it, I highly recommend checking out the adapters on the page I linked. The prices are decent as well. So get rid of those ****ty mechanical HDDs. And go with flash media!

Best and Must Have Wireless Bluetooth Headset - LG TONE HBS-700

Hi Guys,
Galaxy Note 2 seriously needs a bluetooth headset if you are talking a lot on phones. I have tried many bluetooth sets but none was perfect, either not good for music or clumsy n difficult to handle.
Then I came across this LG Tone HBS-700 and trust me its awesome.
1. Awesome sound quality (calling + music)
2. Form factor - very easy to carry.
3. Good battery.
4. Acceptable price.

My co worker bought a set of these on black friday and let me try them. The sould quality is good and they are comftorable i have to say i still prefer my jaybird freedoms. The jaybirds are lighter and dont have the rounded stiff cable. Just 1 wire from bud to bud that rest on your shoulder. I run and play basketball with the freedoms and there perfect. Plus there lifetime sweat warranty. Idk how much the lg headphones are but if there over $70 i say just pay the extra $30 for the jaybirds

I have to disagree. I know too many people who have destroyed theses because they get sweat in them. One guy has had his replaced 3 times already (he runs Ultras).
I have the HBS-700s and I have run in the pouring rain .. and lets not even talk about running in the summer here in Louisiana ... and these have lasted me for over a year with NO issues.
I've had the lg 700 for over a year...
Ups n downs... More ups though. Very comfortable, excellent battery life, light weight, good volume levels...
The down side is it's not the best call quality and that varies from time to time. Sometimes call quality is good and other times people can't even understand me. It's even harder talking to someone with another 700! Most of the time it's ok for call use. For music it's good not great. Bass sucks, and bass button doesn't help out that much. Over all i would highly recommend them. I did my research when buying and I'm very happy with them. If they broke I'd buy another set. That should tell you for the money it's a smart buy

jaybird has a lifetime warranty on sweat.
They are a bit hard to find now because they stopped making them but I have yet to find someting as good as my Plantronic Pulsars 590s. Bought them 6 years ago. Use them every single day I only charge them once a week or less and I've only had to replace the earmuff pads once. They are awesome, can't stress just how great this product is!

Does not work with on-screen keyboard
I have this headset, when I push the mic button on the samsung (or any third party on-screen keyboard) it will not let me use voice recognition. Anybody else have this problem. Other than this minor problem, this is the best bluetooth headset I have ever owned.

Guys,
I can see many suggestions and opinions but trust me LG beats them simple because of its EASE TO USE & CARRY thing.
You dont have to put it in pocket or some bag, simple wear around your neck.
No hanging ear pieces.
from the Giant Killer Samsung Note 2
Does the LG kit (either the 700 or 730) have caller ID announcement, or just a vibrate function?
Also the 730 has gotten some bad reviews on Amazon lately for range problems. It looks like they pulled it for awhile and now it's back; maybe a bad batch?

As much as I delighted by new innovation, but I had to say sorry and disagree with you about LG HBS-700. Your claimed about no hanging earpiece not quite truth too. If you read various feedbacks around the various website, I'm pretty sure you'll be getting something else.
I've noted this set before, prior to my moved from SE MW600 to a new stereo bluetooth headset.
I had shortlisted many new headsets like, Sony MW-1 Smart Wireless Headset pro, Senheisser MW100, Moto S10HD, Jaybird Freedom , including LG HBS700. But after tested them, I almost got a hook by Sony MW1 but in the I gave up all of them.
It was not until I've found Samsung HS3000. It totally change my mindset for stay put with SE MW600, which is now ended in my drawer for good after the many glorious days serving me.

may be...i know the first set of 730s i got did not have near the range of the 700.
lg has an app in the market that will announce callers and txt.

The 730 range is weird. When I am outdoor, the music will skip if the Note 2 is in my pant pocket(shirt pocket or jacket pocket is fine). So when I am mowing the lawn, Pandora will skip. However, when I am indoor and moving around and jumping to get it to skip, it will not. Can't figure that one out.
Other than that, it is fantastic. On off announcement, connected announcement, control is well thought out and you get use to it very quick. I have hanging around my neck when in my car and can skip track with ease.
The phone audio is also very good. Callers said I am as clear as a whistle. Also the battery last very long and the micro usb makes it easy to charge since I have those laying around everywhere.
Music audio is very good, when it doesn't skip that is. The range is at least 20 ft indoor and it won't skip unless the phone is in my pant pocket.
i have the new 730s and i love them. comfortable to wear, music sounds amazing and battery life is great. highly recommend these to anyone.

Sennheiser vs Audio-Technica?

Currently my headphones died and now i use the apple headphones which are horrible :crying: i want to get some good over ear headphones without having to sell my kidney, i narrowed it down to these two:
1. Audio-Technica ATH-M50S EUR 159 on Amazon DE which is very expensive since it costs $115.95 on Amazon USA maybe i could import them, i don't know how much the shipping would cost tough , the downside is the cord is too long ... 10 m wow! Could i replace the cable? would it be too expensive to do so?

2. Sennheiser HD-598 EUR 162 on amazon DE which could be nice because since im in Germany it would be the natural thing to do , they're cheaper here , they cost $239.95 in Amazon USA in comparison , i find them very beautiful but i the cable is not 3.5 it's 6.3mm damn! (at least is 3 m tall) they include an adaptor but i don't like to use adaptors Could i replace the cable? would it be too expensive to do so?
Keep in mind I will be using these headphones for listening music on my nexus 4 and my macbook pro , i dont have wav files but my mp3s are 320 or v0 so they have nice quality and maybe in the not so distant future i will start downloading apple lossless, i'm not in the music business or anything and i know these headphones are professional but id rather spend my money on these than spend spend it on that overrated glossy beat headphones .
If you can suggest another headphones for the same or less price that would be nice too

I suggest you forget both of these and go with the Grado SR60i's or Grado SR80i's. They are considered to be the best headphones for mobile devices and damn near audiophile quality. The only downside is the retro looks and that they are "open" which means if you commute to work your fellow commutes will hear everything you play.
The SR60i's go for around $150 and the SR80i's for $200.
If I have money over after buying my kids xmas presents I'm getting the SR60i's.
Note: I don't know what the "i" stands for and have seen them on sale with or without!

Get some Beats man. I hear those are AWESOME!!!!
Both headphones which you are comparing have great sound quality. The Senn's are much much more comfortable.
Edit: I actually prefer the wireless variety for recreational use, and Senn's stand alone for comfort and value. The ones for under $60 aren't bad.

If you're thinking economically, usually Senn's are usually _very_ easy to repair yourself.
At least the radio broadcast quality stuff used to be. Not sure anymore.

That's what i thought that the Audio Technica are for producers, singers... not to wear them all day on the street.
How much would it cost me to replace the cable for the seinhaser? (to put a 3. 5mm jack) If I buy a cheap cable would the quality degrade?

HeadRoom.com<<<< Been buying from these guys for around 15 years.
Have you considered the Sennheiser HD280's?
Very comfy over ear design and they will drive from a portable.
The HD280s are a bit heavy on bass, yet not muddy and very clear.
I really like mine.
I also have the Beyerdynamic DT-880's they're actually my most favorite cans.
The Beyers are an open headphone however...to me they are the best headphone available for the cost.
Just a couple of thoughts from a longtime ear-speaker user....

Well i'm pretty much set on the senheiser 598 now , the cable can be replacable very easy you just unplug it from the headphones, the thing is will i lose quality if i use a generic 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable?
I have some Senny 598's at home that i used to use before buying my HD650's. They've been sat in my drawer unused for years now, which is a bit of a waste as they're great headphones!
Personally i favour Sennheiser over Audio-Technica, but the only way you'll know for sure which you prefer is to audition both of them. Otherwise you'll have to make a judgement call based on your preferences and the information you can gleen from reviews. Have a look on Head-fi for more information about both.
Grado are okay, i owned a pair of RS1's once which were beautiful, but we pay a premium in Europe for American brands. They're not the most comfortable to wear for extended periods though and i actually ended up with bleeding sores from using mine too much! The Senny's are very, very comfortable though which is in their favour.
Bottom line, you'll probably be pleased with whichever cans you decide to go with. What you should spend more time thinking about is what you are feeding them. A good Headphone Amp, DAC, or even a soundcard with a dedicated Amp will make a world of difference!
Whatever you do,OP,don't even consider the Sony MDR-7506 cans. I don't want them to go out of stock anywhere. I know they're not on your list, but they kill most everything listed sofar in this thread. Everything. So affordable, and an industry standard. Just don't buy them now. Wait for me to buy a second pair first.:highfive:

You mean V-MODA Crossfade M-80 ?
You absolutely should take sound signature and your preferences into account. If you live for audio clarity and beautiful highs, headphones with powerful bass will sound horrible to you, whereas those who love to feel the bass would find them glorious.
IMO, that's the most important thing in buying good headphones, yet most people ignore it.
And, like Dirk said, try before you buy if possible.

REVIEW samDock the Apple to Android converter cable with VIDEO SLIDESHOW!

Today we’re looking at the samDock
Click here to see the original review and you'll also find links to purchase.
The samDock is an adapter cable that let's you use Samsung's latest Android phones like the Note 2 with Apple's 30 pin connector to charge or play audio.
Main advantage: affordable, long length, works by simply plugging it in
Main concern: NONE
Unique features: You can use android devices on Apple docks!!!
I've personally wanted a product like this for years, but it just didn't exist. It seems so simple, there are adapters for everything why not one that adapts Apple's useless proprietary connector to work with the much more universal micro USB standard? The good news is that the wait is over, the bad news is that most people don't care at this point unfortunately. We've seen the wide scale adoption of Bluetooth and things like DLNA, Wifi Direct, and mirrorlink. That means that Apple's stranglehold on the accessory market gets weaker and weaker by the day. For a time, it was the law of the land that all of the coolest docking solutions were Apple exclusive. That's just where the money was, so that's where the effort went.
Nowadays wires are a nuisance and wireless is nearly standard. Bluetooth is everywhere and it's in everything. The great news for those of you that dropped your hard earned money on some sort of Apple capable dock is that this is an extremely affordable solution. If you need to use your Note 2 or most any other Galaxy device with an Apple 30 pin dock it's as simple as plugging this wire in. For some phones that's all it takes and you're done. Others will have to go into your settings and enable Audio Output Mode. You'll just check the box that says, "use external speakers when device is docked.” That's all it takes though. Docks big and small, portable or built in. You'll pass through high quality audio and you even retain the ability to charge your devices.
The cable itself is 24” long, 2 feet is long enough to do plenty without feeling tethered to a dock. It comes in black instead of the apple standard white which is a nice little touch of defiance. It worked with every dock that I tested as well as simply attaching it to an apple charging cable. It will work with the Galaxy S 3 and 4 as well as the Note 1 and 2.
Thank you again to CableJive for supplying their product for review.
Alternatives: none that I've seen
How much: 24.95 each at CableJive.com
Is it worth buying: For under thirty dollars, it's worth buying it to just throw it in your bag on the off chance that you find yourself at a friend's house and you need to arrange some last minute karaoke with an iPod alarm clock.

Man, please take this as useful constructive advice. Ditch that music that seems to be your trademark.
It's awful and annoying. 10 seconds in on both of your videos and I'm rushing to close the window.
The product isn't getting seen if I'm closing the window because of the 'cute' music.

agreed! 100%!
Another point, people have invested a lot of money into Apple accessories and can take advantage of using it with android phone. But the whole beauty of apple gadgets was docking integration without any need for cables or devices laying on the side. This solution does work, but you kill the look of the setup by not being able to dock your smartphone.

are you guys talking about the very start of every video? The opening with the choir type voices? That's from an everclear song.
Otherwise, for every product reviewed, I pick a song that has something to do with the product or it's name. It's just a fun little touch. So this is the samDOCK so the song is hickory dickory DOCK, which is a child's nursery rhyme. It's just a goofy little added touch and you can always mute and just look at the pictures if the music is bugging you. I was this close to doing a death metal cover of hickory dickory dock but I couldn't find a clear enough recording.
now that I think of it there were a bit of children's songs, they just fit really well. I reviewed a wireless charging dock the other day and I used the song, "I've got no strings" from Pinocchio. "I've got no strings, to hold me down" no wires, wireless charging, you get it. Just a fun little touch.
They aren't always kids songs.
Lol I really think everyone is giving you a hard time because that zip thing you reviewed was just stupid.
I mean really guys no one is forcing you to watch the slideshow, you can always mute and listen to whatever you want if you want to setethe pictures.

I'm interested at this. Can you still use the remote on Bose sound dock to skip and control volumes?

Not trying to give you a hard time by any means, it's honestly meant as constructive criticism! I am truthfully trying to be helpful, nothing else! You may not care though, and if what your doing is working for you then I suppose there's no need to change it. I just think your videos would be more professional without some of the music in them, that's all. I did watch many of your YouTube videos! Trying to help out because the more views the better for you. Like the NeatDesk Scanner, that song is just awful! Whether it goes with the product being reviewed or not, I find it very annoying. For the video showing the Otterbox Defender and Seidio Convert cases for the Note 2, I actually really like the song choice! That said though, I still think the video would appear more professional with out the song. Now for the Phillips Hue video, that's a great song choice!! No, not something that I would listen to in my car, but it's like elevator music, simple music with no lyrics. That is very fitting for your videos, and doesn't distract attention from the video whatsoever!! See, I'm not basing this off of what I like or want to hear, just telling you what I think comes off as being more professional. Of course, this is just my opinion. You may not even care what I think or what I have to say. I'm just trying to give you a viewer's perspective, that's all.
Now on to this product! This is something I really need!! My tool chest/box has a CD player and 2 6x9 speakers built in to it! This was one of the selling points to me, not the only one as this tool chest has many unique features not found in any other tool chest, but one of the selling points nonetheless. Coming out of a little slot in the top area of the tool chest/box once the lid has been opened, there is a cable that is tied in to the stereo system in the tool chest. It has an Apple connection on the end of it . Isn't that big of deal, as the CD player also has a 3.5 mm auxiliary jack on it, so I can just use that. I would like to be able to shut the little door that covers the CD player while I'm working though (also has a remote for it), and can't do that with an auxiliary cable sticking out. I do have a 4th Gen iPod Touch 32GB. The remote also allows me to skip songs when it's hooked up through the Apple cable, which is a very nice function!! Obviously the remote can't do anything with my phone, except adjust volume, when it's hooked up through the auxiliary cable. With this adapter/converter you posted here, it would give me the same functionality of my phone as I currently have with my iPod!!
Honestly, using my iPod in the tool chest is basically the only reason I haven't sold it yet! Getting this adapter would be awesome for me! Thank you for taking the time to make this review, and especially for sharing it with this community!! It's greatly appreciated!!

Glad I dont own any Apple docks!
Well,
Got one today and I've now tried 3 docks and it works on none. I've flashed back to stock ROM in case it wasn't compatible with ProBAM.
Not having a bit of it. Money down the drain.

I like to pick out a song that hints to the product in a some way. I don't give hints in the description and sometimes it's harder to figure out why I'd choose a certain song. It's a little side game and people have contacted me saying that it makes them happy to figure it out. I could just find generic background music, but I'm trying to put in a bit more effort than that. Please mute it if it upsets you.
I've seen some adapters similar to this on ebay for cheap. Not sure if they'll allow data(music is the only thing I want) to pass through though. Anyone try one of the adaptors from ebay or similar? Less than $10, so they're super cheap, but even still I don't wanna through ANY money at them if they'll only charge...

Hi
I'm thinking about creating something along the lines of Grace Digital GDI GSD8200 - in my option would be - (Bose sounddock => cablejive /samDock/ => iGRIP Universal Micro USB Charging Dock ) - mounted on the top of my Bose and use it for my Samsung Galaxy phone
My question is - if micro usb plug from samDock will work with the iGRIP charging dock ? (charging and sound signal) or any micro usb charging dock

Best budget BT IEM for M8?

Hello!
I am searching for affordable BT IEMs but with good sound quality and functions (vol +-,tracks,play/pause buttons)
To use with my HTC M8
I have found the Sony SBH-20 to be a good solution as I can plug my RE-272 to get BT + very good sound quality, though the RE-272 cable is too long because of the extension (you can't get stereo sound without it) and the SBH-20 is BT 3.0 and not APTX...
There are tons of Chinese branded BT earphones on Amazon like ''Soundpeats'' ''Mpow'' and ''Imarku'' that are all BT 4.0 and even sometime APTX!
But it's not like the SBH20, meaning the IEMs cant be replaced, so I have no clue which one has a good sound quality.
Please help!
I have a Samsung HS3000 thats like the sony but without the nfc pairing. Its APT-X and works pretty well. The only problem is that it is currently discontinued and I'm not sure where to find one.

I have heard not so good things about the samsung's one, we even have them in my country (Lebanon) for 50$ but I am not convinced, they say buttons are badly implemented and volume is low.
I have found the Sony SBH50 to be a better deal than SBH20, with the Oled screen I can read music names,SMS,caller ID...and even some weather infos (though I can live without it)
Actually I am using the HTC Stereoclip in my car which is aptx and BT 2.1 and the sound quality is very good, nearly as good as cabled connection by AUX, the Sony ones are not aptx but BT 3.0, so I guess aptx + BT 2.1 = non aptx + BT 3.0 right?
I don't know if I can trust the reviews at Amazon about this earphones by ''Imarku'' but it looks like a good deal http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Wireless-Headphones-Hands-Free-Microphone/dp/B00S7ZXO9E/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t
Could you not just do a search on amazon for that exact thing? I trust the amazon algorithm to output the highest quality item first in the list. Just check the reviews on there.
I have tried a couple BT devices (Jabra, Sony, etc.) with IEMs over the past few years....somewhat of an headphone/IEM audiophile (2 portable headphone amps, 1 desktop tube based headphone amp, and have lost count on IEMs and headphones...if that says anything).
Currently using these when I want stereo BT connection with my M8. Soundpeats Qy7 I believe these are one of the 'clones' mentioned above. I also use Viper4audio mod for sound shaping (on a Viper 3.2.1 ROM'd M8 running 4.4.4). On the Qy7's, I've added ComplyFoam T400s. Works very nicely, have no major complaints. Not as good as a couple other options I have around (all corded, though), but that's to be expected. My biggest gripe is that they are prone to falling out, even with the ComplyFoams inserted correctly, and using the inner ear loops. Have to re-adjust every 10-15 minutes....just while sitting. Not a major deal though.
The best sounding setup I've ever used was actually the Jabra Street2 connected to a pair of Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s...but the Jabra Street2 is plagued with intermittent skips and annoyances (and it was corrected with a firmware update, but mine won't update).
I'd like to try the Jaybird Bluebuds, but those aren't considered 'budget' by any standard, and happy enough with the options I have, atm.
FWIW. HTH.

Thanks for your report.
I have read that the QY5 and QY7 were having these problems of falling which are a big deal for me as I will use them while jogging.
HIFIMAN can be perfect with SBH50 if the TRRS 3.5mm plug was compatible with it, but I doubt

One other little tidbit.....IEMs, are nowhere near a 'one size fits all' prospect, even when the manufacturer gives you (like the QY7) 3 different sized ear loops (to hold them in your ear) and also 3 different sized ear tips (the part that inserts into the ear canal).
In my experience......owning 20-30 different sets of IEMs over the past 10 years...some manufacturers work better for me, and some just never will. Ultimate Ears (before purchase by Logitech), Sennheiser, Plantronics....almost always fit me well. Other brands (Shure, Panasonic, Sony, Onkyo, etc.), not so much.
What I'm getting at is the QY7 may not exhibit that issue at all for you, like it does for the reviews from others (including me). If you order from a place that has a liberal return policy....then you could try and see. Amazon is currently showing $36 for me....not very expensive, even by corded standard pricing....might be worth a shot.
I always take reviews with a slight grain of salt....and look at them a bit differently (than most I think). In respect to the QY7, there are 1K+ reviews, with ~75% of them being reviewed at 4 or 5 stars. Not bad. When reviewing.....participation of positive reviews don't account for nearly as much as sellers/manufactuers would want, (it's in the 10-20% range). The bad/negative reviews have a much higher participation....then, all in all, taking that into consideration....there are many more that are happy with the QY7 vs. those that aren't, but it's hard to see that. Just MHO. FWIW. YMMV. :silly:
If you really want to get into all things IEM and headphone.....Google 'Head-Fi Forums'. Then.....sorry about your wallet!

Lol I know Head-Fi, I bought the Hifiman IEMs thanks to their reviews.
And yeah they are a little snobbish with people paying 600$ for IEM
Reviews at Amazon are not always a good results, specially for IEM.
I bought 4 years ago a pair of these Sony http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDREX10LP-BLU-In-Ear-Headphones/dp/B004UDZ8O6 which are still like you see rated 4 stars.
I have never heard a such awful sound in all IEM till now, they were way too in the lows, nothing in the mids not highs, no details!
Why is it so well reviewed? well I figured it's because it costs only 12$ and people who like the sound quality were fans of ''only bass'' music like rap and rnb, which are the only type of music I don't listen too btw.
That's why I am afraid the QY7 models are so well reviewed for the same reasons.
I have found one review that was extremely positive for the Soundpeats QY7 in a blog and another one that smashed it in Head-Fi as a ridiculous sound quality with emphasis on lows only (like the Sony I hated)
I'm sure you know this....but just putting it out there. You can EQ with most any music player (I use PowerAmp)....and with Viper Audio's Viper4Android FX you can even EQ Spotify, Slacker, MOG, Pandora, iHeartRadio.....almost anything. It even has separate options for EQ'ing the different output methods, Bluetooth connected versus wired, for example.
Not trying to twist your arm....but $36 to try them....maybe $6 to return them if they don't work out (Amazon return policy is pretty good, just have to pay return shipping).
Sound wise, they aren't bad IMHO. You're jogging with them. Are you really going to miss the upper/lower 10-15% of the sound spectrum while jogging (as opposed to the pounding of your feet and breathing, since you are wearing IEMs)? And, even if so, you could EQ that back in.... For everything else not jogging, you've got the HiFiMan's. :good:
One other idea (and again, you probably know this if you've spent any length of time on Head-Fi)....reviews of IEMs that include the words 'clarity' and 'detail' are IEMs that are biased towards the high end vs. the low end comments of 'boom' 'bass' 'heavy' 'muddy'.
All good :highfive: Everyone searches for something different in IEMs/headphones, just like the many tastes of music itself.

Don't ask me why but I feel these Imarku http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S7ZXO9E?ref_=pe_623860_70668520 sound better than QY7-QY5, the seller told me it's totally different from the QY5 and QY7 clones you see in Amazon. BT 4.0 but no aptx (which is not a big deal as BT 3.0 and + are already good enough).
The thing is that they won't deliver to my sis in NYC before the 10th Feb with standard delivery, I will have to pay the fast delivery 13$ to be sure she get it before she meet my friend.
So the that's why I can't try and return like you said, I must be 100% sure it's a good deal for me before buying.
I have a friend who is traveling to NYC next week for 3-4 days, I live in Lebanon and if I want to do a delivery from Amazon to here it will cost me 80$ more lol.
Imarku looks like a good deal if I trust the 24 reviews but I am afraid of the diameter of the earphone itself right after the rubber part as it looks too large and could make it falls on the first jogging vibration, even do some irritation to my ear, the Sony SBH50 is a sure thing as I can plug any IEM if I don't like the ones that come with it. That's why I can't decide :crying:
Oh and btw IEM BT here are the most expensive models like Bose and Beats, even Sony doesn't bring the ''cheap'' models SBH20,50 and 52, they have only 1 model at 150$
You can find some headphones (over the ear) BT like Energysistem for 80$ but I don't see myself jogging with such big things.
Missed the fact about being in Lebanon.
I also have the SBH-50. What did you need to confirm with it? Just that a TRRS plugged IEM would work with it? Don't know that I've tried that. But, I could and let you know.
The way it's 'supposed' to work is that when a TRRS plug is in a regular stereo (3 part) receptor....the result is the same as if both parts were stereo (3 part) connection.

The weird thing is that when I connect directly the TRRS plug into the M8 only one earphone will work, but if I plug it to the HTC BT Stereoclip with the help of a female 3.5mm to female 3.5mm, the sound is stereo like if the TRRS to TRS cable was used
Hoping the Sony SBH50 will act the same it will be awesome because the Hifiman RE-272 and 262 cable lenght with TRRS plug is short and perfect for the Sony SBH50, it's the extension cable (which act as TRRS to TRS adapter too) that add an extra 80cm!
Charging up the HBH50 and will do some comparisons with it connected to a couple different stereo IEMs, and an Apple iPhone 5s headset (the only version of IEM/buds I have with TRRS plug).
Honestly the HBH50 will be the best option, IMHO, as you can use it with any headphone.
Of course, the reason I don't always use the HBH50 is that it's a bit 'bright' with it's presentation of sound. The Jabra Street2 I have is a bit more my liking, which, while I'm no basshead....I do like accurate, tight, controlled, emphasized rhythm (percussion and bass guitar) section. But, the top end still has to be there and quite accurate as well.
Will report back, may be tomorrow....still gotta work! :silly:
Here's why the HTC M8 and M7 before it can't make a stereo sound with the TRRS of Hifiman.
It's the RE-0 one but I am sure it's the same as RE-272 and 262
So as you can see the third ring which is used by earphones+mic models as mic is used here for left channel, I wonder if we can do something app based...
I couldn't find a female TRRS to male TRS small cable yet instead of using the 80cm one.

Highly doubt a software solution will fix this type of a hardware (the balanced iem plug wiring) issue.
FWIW, the HBH50 works great on the HTC M8 with an iPhone 5s Apple iem/bud earphone (the ones included in purchase). which has the 4 option plug, with the back connection being the mic. Just note, the mic of the headset is NOT connected. This setup uses the mic of the HBH50, but puts stereo out to the Apple iem. All keypress functions of the HBH50 work fine. Auto-reconnect upon turning the HBH50 on/off works nicely too.
And...the HBH50 does come with a iem/bud/headset on it's own that has a short cord.

Thanks I ordered a white one from B&H (it's sexier and cheaper than the black one), you have to install the SBH50 app and the Smart connect app to use the full features right(SMS view, song names,ID callers...)?
Can you update its FW from the M8 too or you need an xperia phone?

This part I'm not really sure. I use a Pebble Steel watch along with a couple custom apps for SMS viewing/alerting, caller ID and call dialing/muting/handling features.
Both Slacker and PowerAmp (music apps) worked with the HBH50 without any additional software to show the song names and artist. Same for all the ff/rw/pause/play features. Only had to pair the HBH50 and it all 'just worked'.
For updating firmware...honestly never looked into it for the HBH, but if it's like the Jabra Street2, there's probably a separate app using Windows to do it with a USB cable.

I think it's trhough the Sony SBH50 app in the Google playstore, once you install it, it will say there is a new FW.
Hopefully I will get mine in the coming days, it's still with my friend in NY and he's coming back this week
Wow these SBH50 are really good!
BT 3.0 is superior to 2.1 + APTX, sound is clear, soundstage is wide and no muffling sound typical of BT compression.
The given earphones are way too bassy, I had to lower the bass in Viper4android well under the average.
The HIFIMAN RE-272 have a superb sound with the SBH50 but as expected the 3 strips stereo plug didn't work, I have to use the extension cable making it too long for a BT device unless I clip it on my Tshirt sleeve instead of the collar.
I will try to find a shorter extension-adapter cable.
All the functions of the SBH50 are supported with the M8, MP3 tag, caller ID...
Though the sound volume is not very loud, tried it with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm in my car instead of the HTC Stereoclip and it was perhaps 40% more quiet, but with the earphones the volume is good after adding +6db thanks again to V4A, it could have take an extra 10% more.

Question for all you guys and girls who already have a backup camera

OK so I'm looking at this pumpkin head unit. 32gb, 2gb ram, and of course the rk3188.
My question is will the audio still play when you turn on the rear camera by putting the car in reverse. I plan to add a switch and a diode to allow me to turn on the rear camera anytime I want even while driving. I'll be towing a 30 foot camper and putting a camera on the back of it and it would be nice to see it for safer Lane changes. My idea should work , but I hope the audio will still play when I enable the camera. I drew a little diagram to show how I will be wiring it. Thanks everyone!

It's in settings, No sound, full sound or percentage of 100%.
You have to swap the diode around or your rear selection will never activate.
Since it's +12 that will activate the rear cam. The switch will activate it, but not
rear selection.

Awesome. I was worried I wouldn't have the radio with camera on. And thank you yes I realized last night. Did that drawing in haste lol. The anode should be on the harness side. I stuck it in backwards on the diagram. This should do the trick and I'm excited to get an upgrade !!
Now I just have To decide if the 32gb / 2gb / rk3188 is worth an extra $100USD
Seems like most people here are OK with the performance of 1gb.

If you have the money, go for it. Although I've to admit there's not very much difference.
I've seen the difference between 3066 and 3188 in speed that's for sure.
Well, I went with the Eanon Ga2114. Looks like a nice unit and i wont have to cut the bezel to fit. It's the 16gb, 1gb, rk3188 unit. From all the videos online of this model, it seems pretty popular and looks like its built decently. Got it for $150 so I can't complain. Also paid another $10 for a 2year square trade warranty.
Now, to download Malaysk's ROM and get everything lined up for its arrival
Any tips / tricks I should know about? I can't wait for it to get here Spent another 150 in goodies for it. New amp / sub wiring, new rca cables to connect the rear VES in my jeep, a powered USB hub, dash install kit, canbus adapter with steering controls.... Waiting is driving me crazy lol
you can connect a dash camera to the back usb and put it in the back.

Why should he do that? He's a rear cam input which is all automatic.

because in this way he dont need to mess with wiring
By the way, I bought this system a week ago.
The processor is a 3188T - weaker - 1.2 GHz instead of 1.6
And the system gets stuck all the time booting.
I do not know what version of the system and how to get into RECOVERY and the manufacturer does not answer my questions.
My eanon ga2114 is up and running using boroondocks ROM. Pain running all the wires but totally worth it. If you have a canbus and Bluetooth calls don't work, its probably an issue like I had. Apparently the canbus uses the rear channel for all 4 speakers because I have a factory installed amp. Bluetooth audio ( music ) plays on all 4 channels, but calls only play on the front. I had to cross front and back when i spliced the harness for a second time. It all works good now.
Side note, there is no subwoofer line control in the radio and its underpowered. I installed a gain knob and just ordered an inline preamp driver which should boost it a bit. Just giving a heads up.
Also, the radio isn't as crisp as apps like YouTube / iheart radio. Almost like the range isn't quite as high. It still sounds decent and the built in equalizer helps tune it up.

Oh, I also added a switch so I can turn on the rear camera anytime I want while driving. It will definitely come in handy as I'll have another camera connected to my monstrous camper. Merging should be a ton easier. It still automatically switches when I put it in reverse too you have to love diodes

I.e if you put them diodes in the right way. LOL.
Good to hear it all worked out. Enjoy.

where is the switch for the camera? a physical switch? or an app?

Look at #1, there's his solution. Except for the diode which is the wrong way around. A physical switch.

Yep put the line on wrong side of the diode in the drawing. Drew it in a hurry lol. I put a physical switch in my middle console. I used 2 12v 500Ma diodes in parallel.
Came out nice and clean

Now it became interesting again. Why two diodes? We are talking logical levels and currents. One 1N4001 is enough, 99 cent at Radio Shack.
I didn't have a 12v 1watt diode. In parallel 2x .5 watt are 1 watt. No reason other than an overworked diode heats up and fails. I figured 1 amp should be the Max draw for a reverse wire.
I already had some 12v 1/2 watt zener glass diodes laying around

We are probably talking about 0,5-1,0 mA. I picked 1N4001 because it's available for nothing.
so what happens when you hit the switch?
Say you are driving down the street, using an app on the head unit like Pandora or Google Play Music, and you hit that switch. Your screen changes to the camera, but does your music and stuff stay on?
