Finally, Android Wear supports constant HR monitoring by apps.
One of the first Apps to support this is
SportsTracker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sportstracklive.android.ui.activity.lite
See http://blog.sportstracklive.com/?p=558 on how to enable it.
In a 10 minute test walk, the watch consumed about 6% of battery, with the display constantly displaying the HR.

It seems to be pretty accurate
Uses too much of the battery 6% in 10 minutes.
You run for an hour 36% is gone.

And? Then I charge it while showering.
It actually looks pretty good but I already run apps that do that this does (except constant heart rate monitoring)

Yeah, I am also waiting for runtastic to pick up the feature.
This one also has constant puls-checking on the watch - but only on the watch, unfortunately there is no recording on the phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jppjff.sgpm25
Endomondo also has constant HR monitoring. However...constant HR monitoring eats battery very fast. 30% in like...40 minutes. This watch is great for a lot of things but it fails the battery life test in regards to fitness.
That and...it easily disconnects bands during gym workouts.
Sportstrackerlive is closing down which is a pitty as I really liked the way they integrated the heart-rate monitor from the watch with their mobile app with the analytics from their portal.
http://blog.sportstracklive.com/?p=570
I just downloaded Endomondo - but I cannot find the heart-rate on the watch. Do I have to purchase the professional edition?

I just found out that it is already supported in the free version of the endomondo app, you only have to adjust the values, that get displayed in the display of the watch. Here for some reason the heart rate are not displayed by default...

I doubt Runtastic ever will. They're too busy trying to sell their own Heart Rate Monitors and their new watch. I was hoping SportsTracker would be able to step up and build on their features more, but they're going under. Looking at Endomondo.
Endomondo
I've used Endomondo with the Gear Live Heart Rate monitor during a full workout. It worked great. Exactly what it would have been great to have in Runtastic. But now, I don't need Runtastic, Endomondo has all except the new "Interval" training the Runtastic app has. So I'm a Endomondo convert.
My tracks if you know Google can read your heart rate with the gear

I thought I had done this for my gear live through settings, smartwatches, android wear, enable heart rate monitor . . .
It still does not show any heart rate reading. Is this the values you used ?

yes, exactly. I also changed the displays, so e.g. in display one I have HF and speed (not sure on the english translation...). Maybe this step of selecting HF for display is missing on your side?

Success! Just needed one final step of restarting the watch.
Now with a couple of days trial, I've found the heart rate to be very inaccurate. Does anyone have any experience using a bluetooth heart rate monitor, like?: polar H7_heart_rate_sensor

Not the OP, but I get up a couple of hours before I have to work, so theoretically that's all I need.
Is there such an app that can run on the Galaxy Gear then?
So much like the fitbit bands and the new Gear 2 range it will monitor your sleep??

Yes and no. The Gear 2 sleep monitorig is very poor and only limited to 'no movement detection'. So if you havea bad night and cannot sleep, but just keep your eyes opened it will just tell you that you had no movement for 100% of the nigt.
Not reallly a monitoring system that should be linked to heart beat and other valuable information.
True but given that a FitBit or other fitness band would also not be able to tell if you have your eyes open or not, its never going to be the most reliable way of recording sleep anyway!
With regards to the Galaxy Gear then... you're saying that there is an app to use on the watch itself?
Sleep as Android
I used ADB to install Sleep as Android. I bought this app a few years back, and I've loved it ever since.
Used it on all my android phones
-HTC Aria
-Motorola Atrix
-Samsung Galaxy
-Samsung Galaxy Note
-Samsung Galaxy S4
I just got a Galaxy Gear 1st Gen, and figured it was worth a shot. It installed and ran without issue here at the office. When I get home in 3 hours, I'll do a quick charge of my Galaxy Gear (I love how fast this thing charges) and then I'll go to sleep and see how the battery holds up and how the tracking does.

well... that didnt work out as well as I hoped. I came home, curled up in bed. Set the app, the screen dimmed off, and I went to sleep. I woke up around 2pm, and went to check the app and its nowhere to be found under apps. I checked in the background apps, its running, but when I tap on it, it doesnt launch. I rebooted the watch, the app is missing from the apps section. Im going to install nova launcher and try again later
Graph Indeed Saved
So I got into the office tonight, and sideloaded NOVA Launcher, and found the "missing" sleep as android app
looks like it did properly exit and grab my sleep graph. Today when I get home I'll try setting Nova Launcher as my default (this scares me, as I'm worried about it interfering with watch functionality) as see if it works a bit smoother, than it did yesterday.

From the official demo video, the app seems to detect patterns as if it was the phone lying on your bed. having the app on your hand would (i think) give the accelerometer much different results. Does your method seem work well? I'm really interested in getting this watch if this works!
Hi Everyone,
Quick question on battery life implications ( if any ) when using themes developed for Watch Styler - is there an expected battery life implication, little, moderate or high (perhaps dependent on the complexity of the theme)? Or nothing at all?
I ask as I have noticed a battery life degradation recently, and I cannot seem to pin down any specific usage differential aside from recently starting to use themes for Watch Styler. Don't want to jump to any definitive conclusions.
Check this thread ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659023
With stock faces I get 3 days of battery life. Using watchstyler I get 1 to 1.5 days worth of battery using the motion feature to wake the watch. If you set the gear not to wake up on motion, battery life can be as good as the stock face.

I would generally agree with your estimates, based on my experience.
The only thing is that i get worse battery life with watchstyler in use with or without motion. obviously motion zaps the battery badly but for me, watchstyler also kills it too.
Around noon, with watchstyler on, I have 75% left, normally without, i would have 90%. Its very noticeable.

Anecdotally I seem to notice better battery life when using themes rather than watch faces created from the watch styler app. wondering if anyone else has noticed this

Yes. For being BT PAN tethered all that time, thats good.
The question is: Did you have Watchstyler on? I would guess so, since your posting in this thread but I think it needs to be asked...
I beleive the background color of the pictures used also affects the battery. I've tested two themes and when using darker theme, the battery last longer.

How does ambient mode work? There is no sensor on this watch.
That is just a marketing name. Ambient mode stands for the always on face which should be dark and with low brightness in order to preserve the battery and not to cause burn in effects on the amoled screen.

I just picked up this watch today and I've found the best ones I like from facerepo.com, you can go there and browse some faces.
If you decide to use any of those faces, you will need an app from the app store called Facer to use them. It is VERY customizable and works amazing on this watch.

Guys.. I got a question regarding faces.
I'm using WatchMaker app and downloaded/self-made faces tend to slow down the watch (esp when exiting apps, it takes a few seconds to re-load the face).
However, the standard in-built faces by LG have so such probs whatsoever.
Now I'm wondering if this is a WatchMaker problem. I intend to purchase Facer as an alternative, but I'd like to hear from you guys too.
Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, WatchMaker has a very high report / refresh rate which might slow other apps down as the CPU is in higher use. I have found that WatchMaker is the only app that can display a smooth sweeping second hand (if a face was programed with it), where all others will show it "tick".

That is exactly what I thought. I then changed the setting of WatchMaker from 50fps to 1fps. Still no use.
I was hoping some Facer users can comment on how their custom faces behave..
You do know that a zip file used in WatchMaker works in Facer... Try your faces in Facer and see what your performance is like.

Well yea I know, but I just didn't wanna pay for it. 15 mins trial time for this kinda app is a very short time
Anyways, I bought it and yes, the faces from Facer are significantly faster. Now the thing is, the faces I made in watchMaker are in .watch format, which cannot be used in facer. The downloaded zip faces work fine both ways though.
What a bummer. Facer is totally not user friendly for creating faces, and I believe it's limited. This is gonna take some time...
It's not like it will cost you a fortune or anything ...
Here is one of my creations for watch-maker, btw .
Cool. Saw yr post on WatchMaker g+

But you can actually workaround both ECG and blood pressure obstacles even without buying extra stuff.
It is stupid, however, that semi-pro people, who use it, do it in most cases before official manufacturer. Stupid for manufacturer, to be exact.
I'll actually try to make that sensor to work with being man, but register myself as a woman (mine watch is gonna have new motherboard anyway, so any settings went to trash).

This is NOT it. This isn't skin temperature sensor, but an ordinary temperature sensor behind the battery that is in all watches and android phones to keep batteries from overheating. Galaxy Watch 4 has that info also. Device Info 360 on watch:
Google Play
Device Info 360: HW, Root, SW
4.4
(1.3K)
lists that as Samsung Thermistor Sensor ID 69656. But you want Samsung Skin Temp Sensor ID 69686 at least that's what my GW5Pro is showing.
Samsung recently published info on the infared skin sensor: https://www.melexis.com/en/news/202...mperature-sensor-for-menstrual-cycle-tracking
Miniature digital infrared thermometer IC in surface-mount technology
Miniature infrared (IR) thermometer IC in surface mount technology with a small 3x3mm footprint for accurate non-contact temperature measurement.
www.melexis.com
Pretty damn capable skin temperature if you ask me, probs more accurate than any other temperature sensors that are available on Apple Watch Ultra but waiting for Samsung to make use of it is useless especially in countries like Canada.
Their github site lists example code and drivers for this ir skin sensor: https://www.melexis.com/en/documents/documentation/datasheets/datasheet-mlx90632
Unfortunately I'm not a developer, here hoping somebody else could look into this. Actual temperature measurements can be very useful with Galaxy Watch 5.
Anyone received it? IUS LTE model has not.
Last wednesday, I was unboxing my R920 I received an update.(GE bluetooth). But as far as I know, the temperature measurement is for female menstrual cycle only.

Just tonight 4/27/23...got my update -- watch is SM R920. Post update, Software version is R920XXU1AWB1 System version 11, Wear ver 3.5 Wear core services 1.4.69.512673544. Update took about 20 minutes after the download. Seems like SpO2 is better than before, used to have to measure it with a finger now it appears to work on my wrist. I can (so far) find nowhere that body temperature is available or enabled. As a side note I am in Ecuador FWTW as far as regional settings/restrictions go.
Couple notes. Reboot after the last reboot thats part of the software update is a must. Trying to do anything without a manual reboot on mine was very laggy. The reboot helped. Seems on mine that SpO2 and ECG are definitely better but on stress and SpO2 the display seems a little laggy......also when charging the time display, batt % and time to full are different than before, larger and at center screen, something I personally like. Also note that the security patch is 2023-04-01.

This is truly weird. When I did the post mine was AWB1. Now it shows AWD6 same as what you see. thanks for this info. I am reading...and was reading...the information from the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone. Truly amazing. Without your kind reply I never would have spotted this.
Regards and thanks again.
An addendum. I have thin wrists, have always had problems with SpO2 since purchase....to the point where I finally gave up trying to read it with the watch on my wrist. Reading SpO2 with the watch on the same finger I use my monitor on....the watch would agree within a point. Before the update when it would read at all it would consistently be sometimes 5 points off. Since the update the watch so far reads reliably on my wrist and is within a point of the monitor. Additionally the watch seems more reliable reading ECG than before less poor reading messages with the necessity to read ECG again. Only thing I wish is the temperature sensor was enabled in the new update. Otherwise most excellent so far from Samsung. Will be interesting to see how battery life compares.

Yes, but do you actually have in settings option to "predict using skin temp"?
Cause I bet like me (also running WDA on Watch 5 Pro) you don't have that option even if you select Cycle Tracking which men don't use.
