Q&A for Root z1s on 4.4.4 + Deodex

Hey there! I encountered errors after doing your tutorial, but I was able to fix some errors such as a non-loading YouTube app and SnapChat giving an "internal" error. But I am not able to fix the "No Connection" problem on Google Play after. Is there anyway to fix this?
EDIT: I got it fixed following a tutorial from androidcentral! I am filled with glee right now!
Here is the tutorial.
Unfortunately, No connection - retry in Play Store can mean lots of things.
Another solution that you might like to try involves the creation of a new Google account (this worked for me because I did not want to perform a Factory Reset): -
Close Play Store if it is open.
Click on the following options in turn:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> All -> Google Play Store -> Clear Data -> OK
Settings -> Accounts and sync -> Add account -> Google -> Next -> Create
Follow the prompts to set up a new Google account.
Start Play Store. Once you have accepted the licence agreement, Play Store should now connect to the Internet and start working again.
Press the Menu button then select Accounts and pick your old Google account from the list (this will restore your installed applications and purchases).
Unfortunately, your Android applications will now be associated with the new Google Account.
You can manually open any applications (GMail, GTalk/Hangouts, etc.) associated with the new Google Account and configure them to use the old one.

hi, sorry for slow reply, i'm very busy this time. Which rom version are u using? this root method can root version 14.4.B.0.37, not latest version. So if you want to root, flash back to 14.4.B.0.37. I think this cannot root latest version because new version have new kernel version

I had all but given up on rooting my C6916 runing 4.4.4.
However I am on build 14.4.B.0.56. I see nothing here about it. Am I just out of luck?
Could I use the Flash tool and there instruction here: double-U X3 .waledacdroid.com/2014/11/how-to-root-sony-xperia-z1-c6902-c6903.html
and then just download 14.4.B.0.37 and flash it and root it in one swoop?
HELP!

So, I got my Moto X on Verizon today. The OTA started downloading already. Luckily, I turned off all data before it could finish downloading (it's at 8% now). Obviously, I can't connect to data 'cause it will automatically start to download.
I want to root though. I know I'm supposed to use PwnMyMoto. However, I know that the OTA breaks root. I've read around all the posts--and I can't seem to find a conclusive way to keep root on the OTA after gaining it; each post I read says something different.
Additional piece of info: I don't care about anything regarding custom ROMs or the bootloader. I intend to keep the stock ROM, but use Xposed.
So, my three questions:
1) Is it okay to root even though the download of the OTA has started?
2) What is the conclusive way to keep root for the OTA?
3) After rooting, how would I go about returning everything back to stock? (I plan on using this phone for a next week or so, then returning it--this is because of the price drops and MotoMaker for Verizon coming out soon; at this stage, I just want to know if this phone is right for me).
Thanks for all the help in advance.
Just boot into Recovery and wipe data\cache and dalvick this will reset your phone. Then resetup your phone, the OTA will come back up, tell the OTA to REMIND you about it, not download it. Then use pwnmymoto to get root, and then just freeze the OTA downloader (MotorolaOTA.apk). Continue to use your phone, customize it with xposed etc etc. When you want to return it, use RSDLite and flash the stock FXZ file to it its totally back to stock again out of the box.
Am I too late?
I have the update on my phone, but would want to root it. I have the moto x on verizon it's not the developers edition.
No need to wipe data. You can root while the download goes then install ROM toolbox and delete the update from your cache and freeze the moto updater.apk and updater.apk to stop the notification. As for.rooting the update I think jcase said install pwnmymoto but don't run it then update. But IMO its not worth it cause if anything gets messed up you get updated and loose the opportunity to root.

If you installed the update your SOL. If its just downloaded your OK to root.
I ended up not accepting the update. I'm not going to either. If by the time I return this phone I deem it worthy of a replacement for my GNexus--then I'll worry about root and the OTA. This is awesome stuff.

Hello,
Sorry if this question is really stupid, but are there any root methods for the Nexus 6 on Android 5.0.1? Would any root for Lollipop 5.0 work for 5.0.1 as well? Please reply with what methods have worked for you. Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much! I just found this coincidentally SECONDS before you responded. Hopefully it works great. Now, when I lose root each time I update, I can just come back to this application and see if there is a new version?

Wug keeps everything up to date. Shouldn't be a problem. Also, you won't be able to update when you're rooted. The update checks for any modifications and will error out. You will have to flash the update manually, or via the toolkit under advanced. There is a guide under general about how to update manually via fastboot, which is a pretty simple thing. I'm a bit cautious about flashing anything manually and I was able to do it without any hiccups. I'll grab a link for it.

Q&A for MoFo IMG AT&T XT1097 (root, tether, xposed)
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for MoFo IMG AT&T XT1097 (root, tether, xposed). If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

Newbie questions
I've received my Moto X yesterday (bought a used one on Amazon). Unfortunately I haven't ask the seller which exact model of MotoX it was and it turned out that it is AT&T one and bootloader can't be unlocked.
Tried to go through all topics connected to MotoX but still have a couple of questions. If this this is wrong topic please tell my where to post.
1. Using MoFO, should I be able to install debloated firmwares (without AT&T bloatware) on my phone? I don't need root but I wan't pure stock Android without carrier-specific apps.
2. If I use MoFo and don't like it, can I go back to official stock and receive OTA updates?
3. Do we have any hope that someday (say, in one year) someone (like Sunshine) finds a way to unlock bootloader? Is that hardware-impossible or just such an exploit wasn't found yet?
4. Assuming that such exploit probably will need KitKat, will I be able to downgrade to 4.4.4 later if I update 5.0.2 OTA now?

Yes but to make it you have to either use another device with an unlocked bootloader like a Nexus 9 or a Moto X 2013, or if you know someone with an XT1095 they can make it for you. Or if you know linux you can make it.

I don't have any hope. No one is working on it. jcase and beaups aren't interested in motorola phones anymore and they were the only ones pretty much working on it who have the skillz needed to do it.
And maiko1 hasn't been responding to questions about MoFo via the forum or by email. He hasn't been on XDA since 5/27/15 so I don't know what is going on. It is like he abandoned MoFo. Maybe he is sick or in the hospital and can't respond, idk, but he hasn't been responding to anyone in awhile. When 5.1 drops, the copy of MoFo you have now won't work on it. He would need to update the MoFo site and I worry that he isn't interested anymore.
If you have the ability to return the XT1097 and get an XT1095, that is what I would do.

There is no reason to think that the exploit will be found on KK. jcase and beaups looked for one and didn't find one and gave up.
And no, you will never be able to downgrade your bootloader to 4.4.4 once you upgrade to 5.0.2.

If you're moderately proficient I won't go into too much detail, you basically just use the mount command to mount the ext4 image then modify then unmount then flash.

For some reason the xposed doesn't work for me.
See screenshot from attachment
I got a ATT xt1097
My flash procedure:
1. enter recovery and wipe data/cache
2. flash stock image with just root
3. wipe cache(If I don't do this there will be a bootloop)
4. enter system, turn on Unknown Sources (read from another website), Install Xposed Installer (tried both 2.7 experimental1 and 2.6.1), delete everything in dalvik-cache
5. fastboot flash your mod
6. wipe cache
7. enter system, there is a long updating app process.
8. open Xposed installer and it doesn;t work

You need to follow the instructions in the OP exactly as written, by what you posted you aren't doing that. There is no need for instance to enable Unknown Sources.

Also, for last step, I installed "APM+" module and it didn't work.

Well if you are using the correct version of the installer and following the instructions in the OP for the image as written it should work. I would flash back to stock system and start again from scratch if it isn't working for you making sure you are following the instructions.

i thought i had time. and was waiting for the play store to recognize my device before i ordered Titanium Backup Pro
to freeze apps. and OTA
the play store says "You don't have any devices" when i try to login in to the play store on my computer
but i can access the play store from the play store app on my fire just fine
i read a post that said it could take up to 2+ hours for the play store to recognize the fire tablet, when logging in with a computer
so i was waiting
Won't stopping a update in progress mess up the tablet possibly brick, 5.0.1 is needed for gplay its saying no devices because 5.0.0 gplay doesn't work on it

Just realised you've connected to the internet before blocking otas the guide clearly says to not connect to the internet so it can't download them, Google play on 5.0.0 can't check licences also so apps like launchers won't activate the plus features

The splash screen that says the latest update is being installed is just Amazon's version of the Android dialog that says Android is upgrading, which you'll get any time you wipe cache. In other words, if you're already on 5.0.1 and have been messing around with it (e.g. rooting it) it's not unusual to see the "latest update" screen on reboot as the cache gets rebuilt.

dont know but i am already on 5.0.1 or maybe it's 5.0.1.1
this is something new and just released
stopping the update, should not brick it
if it does i could always put the update file back
once someone tells me how to remove it or stop the update process

oh ya i wiped the cash yesterday and did a factory reset
then rooted it
you think thats why today i see the update ?
or is it something new ?
no that cant be it i remember it rebuilding the cash yesterday
so this is something new
probably to fix the root hole we found
because if we root it we dont have to see their adds
or use their programs like "PRIME"
and they dont make money
thats why i am scared of this update
because it's in their best interest to stop root and boot-loaders
If you're on 5.0.1 then you're on the latest and you're not receiving an update.
I have got same problem
I originally have stopped the OTA through adb shell
but then I still got the update
not sure why this happens...

it is also possible ANY update of ANY kind takes away root
..
i think i'll get it back but i have not tryed yet

More than likely it isn't an ota, I had this happen a few times messing with system using root apps, it's just rebuilding cache like users suggested, also when I rooted the device I had that come up before, it's fine.
Just make sure the ota services are disabled/hide/removed.
You can install all the updates available for this device, you won't lose root. Not yet at least
Thank you all for your kind replies
and to
blueberry.sky
i used this app to check for root
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck&hl=en
Plus after install of the update i lost superuser
dead give away right there, but i wanted to make sure anyway
so i used that app

Hey everyone. I just got a Note 3 n900a after having been with Windows phone for about two years now, and I'm having some real trouble rooting it. I realize it's an older phone, so it seems most development has kind of slowed for the phone. But I'm hoping someone might have some advice here to help me get this thing rooted, so I can install a custom ROM on here. The stock one is bugging the hell out of me.
So here's what I've done. I tried rooting it with an Odin tool and Root de la Vega. When trying to actually run the tool, it detects the phone in download mode and everything, starts, then fails. Doesn't want to go any further. I can't remember the specific error it gave. So I tried the Towelroot method, which is supposedly the best way to do it. Towelroot runs and says it's successful. Root checker says otherwise. I even went ahead and factory reset the phone, kept absolutely everything at default, tried again, and it doesn't work.
I'm stumped. My model number is SAMSUNG-SM-N900A, my android version is 4.4.2, baseband is N900AUCUCNC2, build number is N900A-AAR-CONVERSA-SHOY.2015.08.24.1105, and security version is MDF v1.0 Release 2. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!
This might help with rooted LP on the n900a: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006
There is not much development for the n900a because the bootloader is locked which means the phone can't run TWRP or custom ROMs unless the ROM can be installed via safestrap and is based on a stock Samsung ROM.

The de la Vega root method doesn't work anymore. If you are on NC2 you can use towelroot.

I would recommend factory resetting your phone and then reflashing stock NC2 and try rooting with towelroot again. Don't mess with any settings after you flash. Go straight to towelroot

Also run an hash check on your downloaded firmware if possible to ensure it isn't corrupted. And make sure you are using a REAL Samsung cable to flash. People think it's B.S. but it isnt. I have HARD BRICKED PHONES using cheap gas station cords.
The firmware I used to root was N900AUCUCNC2_N900AATTCNC2_N900AUCUCNC2_HOME.tar.md5. It is 2,275,231 KB in size. Make sure yours matches
