I currently have the LG G3 and after seeing the note 4 in person I want one . I guess my main question is should I hold off or do you guys think that its worth it to move on from the G3. I was a note 3 user and loved the phone, but Samsung really pissed me off with the whole Knox garbage that they implemented. In advance I am sorry if this thread is out of place, I just wanted some feedback from current owners.
huh? why do you even care about knox?
Came from a g3 and the note is better

Burned my knox fuse less than 24 hours in. Who cares?

Well in the event that I need my phone serviced, my concern is that I will be denied warranty by either T-mobile or Samsung. I honesty considered this a shifty move to use this as a reason to deny warranty claims....I might be wrong because I never have had to send my note 3 in for warranty purposes anyway. I miss how easy it was to connect to my samsung smart tv with the note 3, with the lg g3 it never streams well.
I also came from a G3. Had 2 of them, gave my wife one and sold mine on Craigslist and used the money to get the Note 4 which I'm using now. The Note 4 is a better device. The Snapdragon 805 handles the 2K display better and the battery is also better. Phone also doesn't heat up as much as the G3. The display being LED is also better then the LCD in my opinion with colors popping or u can dim the colors down in display settings.
If your able to obtain a Note 4 I say go for it. The Note 4 is a better device and will have more Development behind it vs the G3.
If you can't upgrade your not missing much.
In my opinion the Note 4 / Nexus 6 / G3 are the best devices currently on the market. Note 4 having an edge with the LED display and Stylus.

I am on the old jump plan and I have one upgrade left for the year so I am able to upgrade. You mentioned the note 4 doesn't heat up as much as the G3, that was one of my concerns and thanks for clearing that up. Using the phone for the torque app or navigation really fires up the g3, almost too hot. How loaded with bloat is touchwiz this time around?
I have the Note 4 and it is a great phone. It has replaced my OnePlus One as my main phone. The Note 4 is definitely better than the One, but only marginally. It isn't 450.00 better. Not for my usage at least.
its crazy bright! i dimmed it to like 5% and its still pretty bright lol
The charge is quite fast compared to the N3
Ive played around with the G3 and i6+, Note4 has better build quality imo although it doesnt look that way in videos. you have to hold it to believe it.
Metal bezel makes it a little slippery but the leather back, which feels a lot better than N3, helps offset it.
N4 wouldve been the perfect phone if the "Samsung" logo in the front is removed, quite distracting
I just upgraded from Galaxy S4 and I love it! I rooted day 1 and have no regrets.

T-mobile uses experian for warranties and jump related trades, didn't they recently implement a policy to no longer accept any device with a tampered flag, rooted, etc for warranty and or jump purposes. This implementation also includes devices with tripped knox flags. I'm not trying to be a bummer or anything I just try to think ahead.

TMOBILE uses asurion for warranty claims and both have no care about Knox or root. They both send out replacement as they are. They flash fresh software and ship it. It does not matter for anyone but Samsung.

so samsung does care if knox got tripped? just wanna make sure since i don't use tmobile warranty. so if anything were to happen, i'll have to ship it back to samsung for repairs.
i'm not worry bout bricking my phone with root. just don't wanna be burn by hardware issues unrelated to root 1 month later if samsung rejects warranty.

Samsung would care. But why use them when t mobile takes care of you. Plus sending phone back to Samsung is like a 2 week progress .

| came from the G3 as well. while the G3 was a nice phone I think the note 4 beats it. The Screen is better, battery life trumps the G3, and personally I like how the note 4 feels in the hand. One thing l do like more on the G3 is how they were able to fit the screen in such a small body.

Technically Tmobile can cover warranty for Samsung devices instead of you having to send it to Samsung. I forget what it's called but as long as your device is within the manufacturers 1 year warranty, tmobile can advance replace you one for $20. The defective device goes back to Tmobile. If you don't return the defective phone they charge you I think $200. I did this with my note 3 a few months ago when the screen on/off sensor broke.

I never bought any warranty/insurance from tmobile. I thought the basic 1 year warranty was that I can return to tmobile within 30 days and the rest of the year will be covered by samsung.
I will definitely be rooting ASAP if tmobile covers the entire year without me buying insurance from them.

Has any done a T-Mobile warranty replacement of the Note 4? I don't mean the insurance replacement through Assurant. I'm talking about the replacement that comes with the $20 Service Warranty Fee.
What are the condition of the replacement you received?
I've had clients do it. They got new ones.

If I asked for a warranty, do I have to ship my phone first nefore they give me a new one or I have to wait for a replacement before shipping? Can I do it from the dealer which I brought the phone?

Im about to face the same situation. I tried asking for a new phone but they said no. Hopefully its a good refurb with no issues. Did your refurb have any cosmetic damage ?
I'm on my 3rd one. The first one the regular phone speaker stopped working. The only way someone can hear me is if I put it on speaker mode. And the camera wouldn't focus right away. They sent me a replacement that one was great until a few days later once in a while the touch screen stopped working unless you use the spen. So they sent me a brand spanking new t3. All of that is through just calling T-Mobile asking about manufacturer warranty. Didn't have to pay a thing

Hey all!
Curious for this of you using the Nexus 6 if you're happy with it, pros and cons, etc.
I have Craigslister wanting my Galaxy s5 plus $200 for his Nexus 6.
From everyones experiences over the last few months, if you were me, would you make the switch?
is it worth the switch with that cost involved?
or am I better off sticking with my S5 for now?
Just curious if the Nexus is as good as the reviews say it is and if it's worth an already great Android phone plus some cash,,,Thanks!!!
I'd do it. I upgraded from the S5 and have never been more happy. Will never buy another Samsung phone again. Pure android is enough reason for me.
I really can't comment on the monetary side as I have no idea what you paid for your S5, but do I think the N6 is a better phone, for sure. It's pure Android and Android L is as good as it gets. This is the first Android phone I've owned that I've not wanted to install a custom ROM onto and only feel the need to root for a few useful apps. The only downside for you is the camera in some ways will be a step back. Yes, it has OIS and daylight photos turn out perfectly fine with the N6, but it isn't the greatest when it comes to low light photography. Could this improve in the future? Sure, we've seen other Android phones get camera updates that were quite significant. The speakers will be a huge step up from the S5. Their loud, very loud and that goes for calling also. You won't be having any issues when it comes to ear piece volume when it comes to making calls.
I will warn you, the phone will feel massive in your hand when you get it. I had doubts about even keeping mine when I bought it since I have smaller hands. After about a week, I got the hang of operating it one handed when I need to. It's a bit of a stretch to reach the opposite end of the keyboard, but you get the hang of it.
Vaxick hit all the right points. The part about the custom rom is subjective though. I prefer custom roms and the latest ota hasn't psyched the memory leak that is in lollipop. Most custom roms include it already.
As far as the price, the s5 is $609.90 right now with a retail price of $660 according to t mobile. So that person is ripping you off with the price, you're better off just buying a nexus 6 that is new from the play store or from Motorola or your carrier and sell the s5 by itself.
Plus, I don't really trust buying from other people without any sort of third party protection. It's very easy for someone to report the phone stolen after they sold it to you for a couple days and then your phone is rendered useless when you paid for it.
Youre better off just selling the s5 and buying a nexus 6 from somewhere more reputable.

Thanks for the input! On a side note, I always meet the person at a carrier brick & mortar store to run the IMEI and everything to make sure it's all legit. I'm a 2 thumber when it comes to typing and owned a Note 4 a couple months back I think I can used to the size. Def want to get into Lollipop and want a more pure experience than TW gimmicks. If the camera can hold up to the G3 I had (which I though was really, really great) I think I may take the plunge. I'm not due an upgrade and can't really shell out the whole $650 right now, so I may take a little hit on the cash and go for it. Thanks again.

Well either way, if you're going to be trading up your S5 + $200.... thats more than $650 in value if you think about it.
Motorola and depending on what carrier you have, they have financing options where you can pay it off in monthly intervals.
Even if the IMEI did checkout, they can call up their carrier and report the phone stolen days later. There's been numerous nightmare stories on Reddit and XDA where they've purchased a phone from a meetup via Craigslist and then days later the phone was blacklisted. From that point onward, you're pretty much out of luck as you have no "proof" that you actually bought the device other than your word.

hi.im a loyal Samsung customer. i love their innovations, their experimentation, their ideas!
i love Note series, since Note 1, i never got anyother daily driver phone. it was always Note! the refined version of their S line.
Everybody knows how samsung treated Note 4. it is left like it is not even one of their own.
im not living in Europe or USA or Canada, where u can get subsidy from carriers and get a new phone and pay the rest monthly.
i have to get the cash, get it for almost 40% higher price than its price, or get it imported . i got mine imported.
Yesterday my Note 4 screen gave up on me. the left side of the display flickered and glitched out on its own for NO reason at all! i didnt drop it, i didnt put weight on it, it didnt get wet, NOTHING! all on its own, and mind u its only 20 days old phone.
its under warranty but i cant claim it cause i got it from UK and now i cant go back or send it back cause that would take time and lots of money especially when, if fixed, it comes back.
now i gave it for repair but they didnt satisfy me and said that these issues were common with S5 and onward phones from samsung. risk is higher cause it can be LCD issue which will cost me around $200, where i got this phone for $550
i had a Tab S8.4 this January, that had TERRIBLE battery issue, and after that motherboard died and i had to sell in for parts!
now all these stories and whats the outcome?
well i see many people here saying that looking at support from samsung for note 4 , they will not be getting any more samsung device, and blah blah.... then how come samsung sell millions of newer releases especially in European countries and USA? i mean, majority of their sales are in these areas right?
its sad, how **** their QC has gone, and even software support is ****! everyone knows they will not release 5.1 for international models until after Note 5 comes out.
Note 4 was supposed to be DAWN of new design language for samsung especially for their Flagships, but where is that philosophy now?
im not trying to be that mean dude, but it hurts when u spend ur hard earned money, u wait for a device u love, u get that and after 20 days u find its screen glitch out for no ****ING reason!
this is second time within few months, samsung betrayed me.
and its not just me, no major update in almost a year is bad from samsung.
so all who are saying they will not get Note 5 for lack of SD card slot, or removable battery, PLS STICK TO YOUR WORDS!
they have really really turned themselves like apple. samsung is the new apple now... but atleast, Apple knows a thing or two about QC and Software support. because without software support these phones are nothing more than a piece of hardware!
Unnecessary thread is unnecessary.

Why buy an imported version? Imports always have their risks no matter the brand. A screen replacement is always expensive due to the high costs of the amoled display (oem displays are always much more expensive than their knockoffs). Did you try calling a samsung service center for help? Sometimes they honor the warranty even if it is an import. If not then just send it back to the store you bought it from (should be cheaper than replacing the screen).

i knew i would get such comments and even hate for this. its not a personal matter.
i would eventually get my issue fixed, that not the problem. the problem is Samsung's behavior to its customers.
its us buying their products and when people find unnecessary issues and lack of support from company, we rage like hell. but then at the end we go and buy another one of their over priced product and the cycle keeps going on and on....
the reason of this thread is not to bash samsung or to bash its customers in anyway. i myself like samsung but not anymore and thats because of no one else but samsung themselves.
its only US, customers who can fix lot of issues.
im sure many here would understand my point, sad you didn't

Look it's not that I don't understand your point, it's the fact that your thread number 500 on this subject. I've already said I'm not buying another Samsung product.. I love my note 4 but have grown to dislike the lack of updates and most definitely the lack of open source on the TW side of things.
This is what happens when you take risks for granted. That extra 40% for a local version probably doesn't seem so bad now. You should consider an import as a no warranty device, not to mention you rooting it as well. I don't think I would purchase any kind of device today for $550 without some kind of warranty, unless I had 100% certainty the device would not fail.
I knew the risk when I bought my Note 4 and rooted it the second I brought it home. That was a $700 risk I was willing to accept with nobody else to blame but myself. (Of course I used the ol' amex warranty safety net, I am not totally reckless)
Conclusion: Suck it up, move on, and hopefully learn something from the experience.
I'm with you. The Note 4 amazed me when I got it, but the Lollipop update and amazingly long delays in fixing the issues, seeing all Samsungs old, ****ty models getting 5.1.1 before their newest most expensive flagship phone really soured me off the experience. With the Note 5 looking total ****, it seems like there's no real reason to stay with Samsung. Great hardware (except the Note 5), but their support and software are ****.
I totaly agree with you and I will not buy any Samsung phone/product in the future. I have Note 4 and Tab S and on Note 4 I had to lose warranty and root it to get the ROM that is working to some point and on Tab S I have stock and it is HORRIBLE! Gr8 piece of HW with crappy SW = not worth it! Thx to this incompetent Samsung like engeniers Apple is still on top thx to good support and great SW with lesser HW.

Hi,
Was wondering what people think of the recall. Seems like if they do do a recall, we would have to ship the phone in for a week at least. This would be very inconvenient and I'd rather just return the phone now before 14 day t mobile policy.
Any thoughts on if Samsung would give a freebie or maybe just give a new phone somehow? Otherwise, returning the phone seems to be the best idea and buying it again after the issue is "fixed"
Any idea if t mobile will make us pay 50 dollar restocking fee on this?

Any thoughts on if Samsung would give a freebie or maybe just give a new phone somehow? Otherwise, returning the phone seems to be the best idea and buying it again after the issue is "fixed"
Any idea if t mobile will make us pay 50 dollar restocking fee on this?

I would say if you're not havingany issues there is no need to return unless you're worried of future issues. I won't be returning because I have no issues and my phone was manufactured 2 weeks ago. Also tmobile will not charge rsf

You think we will have the option to change color of phone in recall?

Im going to go out on a limb and say no but I could be wrong...
I really don't want to return my device because there is no problems with it like everyone else is having. But I'm going to give T-Mobile a call and see what my options are.

I didn't grab the 7, decided to wait for whatever the Nexus will be because really, tho the note series has always been pretty good locked up and knox not being able to be reset later for full functionality has finally turned me off, with that said tho, if you have a note 7 by all means exchange it. It's in no way worth a gamble, whose to say what could happen if it caught fire, exploded or whatever. Your safety or your families is nothing to take a risk with and saying it has been fine so far is just plain stupid. Everything and everyone will always say it was just fine until it's not. If something was to happen and someone hurt and you knew about the issue yet ignored it you are pretty much a piece of *[email protected]# in my opinion. Samsung would not issue a recall and face the negative press unless it was something they truly deemed necessary.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I've had no issues with this phone and have loved it so far, but I'm not going to take the chance of not sending back a possibility defective phone. Of course there isn't any signs of issues right now, but just my luck as soon as the recall period ends my phones will explode. I will be calling T-Mobile today or tomorrow to see what our options are because I'm not going a week or two without a phone. Everyone should return their phone and it should be a no brainer
If anyone is planning on selling their Note 7 down the road I would exchange it.
People on ebay will want to know if its one of the "fixed" units
Well my 256 GB card just showed up. They're not recalling that bad boy. Maybe go with something unlocked I guess.

Samsung acts fast and announces a recall on all Galaxy Note 7s because of potential battery issues. And Apple doesn't give 2 $#!%$ about the owners of iPhone 6 and 6 Pluses with Touch Disease who can barely if at all use their phone.
if there is a recall i will go back to my note 5 I loved that phone
I have my old Note3 as a back up (just replaced the battery so kids can still play on it and now it works and looks like new), so no big deal at all for me., so whatever they do I don't care much, I just hope it's a misunderstanding and despite being worldwide, only Korean made Notes 7 will be recalled (can't believe all factories produced faulty batts or that they can't track where battery was made) and mine is made China. One thing I'm 150% sure I will be owning Note7 recall or no recall and hell will freeze over before I would return it and switch to some other phones just being released any day now.

I just called them and they said samsung is manufacturing new notes, and in about 2-3 weeks they will call you and you bring your old note in and they just give you the new one, no restocking fee
I have 3 or 4 other phones so will just be waiting to see what our options are.

Looks like you'll have that option.
I just got back from the Tmobile to return my note 7. They gave me the option of another phone instead of the note 7 or just get a phone in the meantime until my new note is shipped in 2-3 weeks. They remburst me for my tech 21 case and screen protector. Which I still get to keep. Also since I Finance the note 7. They will credit me for my first payment of my old note 7. I had the silver returned and ordered the blue Coral. They actually asked which color I would like.
Just called t-mobile. They said they will exchange the phone outside the 14 day return policy.. They will be sending out a mass text message with details on the exchange.
I definitely want a note 7, I don't want to exchange for any other phone except for a replacement note 7. So are they fixing the current phone or are they exchanging them? Waiting a week without a phone is stupid, I hope we get the Option to exchange for a new fixed one
Mine was made china on Aug 6th...its just the Korean variants with the issue correct?
Just wanted to see if devs are still going to be developing for this device with all the issues that are STILL happening apparently. It's such a shame because I absolutely love this phone. TEKs and OVERDRIVE roms looked real promising. I would just to keep a phone for 2 years if of developing is going to die off.
well considering a 2nd recall by samsung will most likely happen within the next few days according to t-mo. i would say the development for the n7 is done period. i got a feeling the n7 won't be back on the market after this either. samsung will probably scrap em all and move on to the s8 or even the note8 which will most likely need to be renamed as this whole thing has literally damaged the notes name.

A true bummer, I really don't want another phone but I guess I don't have a choice. Back to a note 4 I guess until a note 8 gets released which might not even happen. I've been a note holder since the note 2 (except a note5 which I wasnt impressed with)

The Note4 is my daily driver again, took back my replacement Note 7 yesterday.
It's basically got all the functionality where it really matters, the S-Pen.
The other features that were heavily marketed were of no consequence to me.
I definitely notice the difference between the two as for overall performance, but, it's not an awful experience by any stretch.
Throw your ROM of choice on the Note4 & ya got yourself a very comparable experience.

My phone before this was actually a note 4 and the only reason I went to a note 7 was because my phone was stolen. I was running abstrak rom (now discontinued). I'm probably going to see what mm roms they have for it now. Since I have to purchase another note 4, it will probably be on mm and I dont even know if it's rootable. My old note 3 and 4 were excellent phones, it just pisses me off that Samsung stops updates for older phones basically forcing you to upgrade phones. That being said, I'm sure the note 4 will never get a future update.
And, lights out.......

You guys believe a Note 7 V3 will ship with rootable firmware?
I seriously doubt it, we caught a lucky break on this one & some on V2 were left out in the cold w/a phone dead for development.
It's a nice phone without root, Package Disabler apps help a lot, along with a decent Ad Blocker, but, not enough for Round 3 on the exact same phone.
I'll check in on the next iteration, the Note 8,or whatever they'll call it.....

I've got a T-Mobile Note4, a perfectly decent daily driver.
However, I'm a recovering phone ho', the LG V20 is next on my list (returned my Note7 V2 for a refund two days ago)

Wow, not sure what phone to move on to if I was to move on. Been rocking notes since they came out. Got a note 4 but the screen needs to be fixed
I wish T-mobile will get the new Google phone. I will definitely get the pixel.

When Samsung has a major fiasco they recall all the product gather all the staff in the court house and destroy the product in front of them and the manager of that department is then banned from the company for life. Korean custom. Not only did the guy lose his job he disgraced his Family for generation to come. Going back to Note 7 the product is being discontinued it was announced in German newspapers today
GREAT!! *sarcasm*
My Note 5 was messing up and I got the 7 for the upgrade.
I'll have to debate this, as mine was one of the ones that wasn't a replacement or recalled. But with no rooting ability, or way to drop back a version to gain root...might have to go back to the Note 5.
I never even attempted to try the software update. I didn't like the stupid green battery icons or grouped notifications. I still have my v2 on original release firmware with updates blocked. I like the phone uprooted but I do not like the current software for it. It's a shame because I love phone otherwise, but without future root to make those small tweaks on the v3, I think I'll wait until I find something I really like. I've always been a Samsung guy that being said I'm not a real Fan of pure Google type phones. For some reason I really like touchwiz (ya I know).
