When i got my galaxy s2 i was given 50GB of dropbox which made me happy, when I upgraded to an s4 i was pleased because the the 50GB was renewed. I heard the Note 4 contined the deal but was dismayed to realise the deal was now only applicable to new customers!
I partly stuck with Samsung due to this and am shocked to be left with an email saying that in 2 months i will have to drop 9GB of data to be able to keep any more.
Dropbox only offer 1TB, i dont need that much. 50GB was fine and i like Dropbox a lot. However i have 1TB 'sky'/'one' drive with Microsoft I'll have to get used to now.
I'm upset with both Samsungs & Dropbox over this... i assumed sticking with Samsung meant good cloud provision!
Same here....
I was hoping for the same thing. Dropbox gave me 3 more free GBs. Looks like it's time to join sky. Was fun while it lasted.
I was also faced with the same problem. However, instead of signing in, I signed up again with a new account and got the free 50GB (after doing a few introductory steps). Then I went to my computer, copied the old dropbox directory to the desktop, then uninstalled dropbox, and reinstalled with the new credentials. I then placed the contents of the old dropbox directory into the new one. It took me 10 hours to re-upload the 38GB I had in dropbox. I then deactivated my old dropbox account entirely (just so I can do this again when the Note 5 comes out )
You can also easily add another 18GB by doing some silly referrals. Or you can go buy these referrals from eBay for $5 for the 18GB.
Just wanted to add that if I had to pay, it would definitely be for Sky-one-drive. The 1TB option with them costs $69/year (vs $100 for dropbox) and for that you get the same 1TB as dropbox, plus office365 for a year, plus 60 free world minutes on skype per month. That's so much better than dropbox, I can't imagine how they are not trying to compete harder.
I'd become rather fond of old Dropbox over the years but fortunately I have 1TB of Sky/Onedrive with my M$ Office subscription so will start using that more. It will probably be more convenient anyway.
I hope this thread helps others realise they should set up a new Dropbox account rather than reactivate a previous one.. the warnings are there but i thought it would be okay.
I do not understand why Dropbox don't have a cheaper 50 or 100GB option? Im not a heavy cloud user despite using it for all pictures & work related stuff but i can't justify the monthly cost of 1TB of storage with them when Google only charge a couple of quid.
Well done Dropbox you've lost a lot of potential custom, thank you and goodbye.
Oh we all know we can setup a new one. The problem is the hassel in doing so. I might as well make the switch if I'm starting over again.
At least Dropbox finally lowered their price. Not to long ago they were charging a lot for data. But as others said where is my 100 GB option option?
Make a new dropbox account with different email. Got to pc. Log out the old one and log in the new one. It will create a new dropbox folder. Then go to the old dropbox folder and copy everything to the new folder. This is how I get back my 50gb storage

I've moved almost everything to my OneDrive now except the camera upload.. Microsoft have made a meal of the feature by forcing notifications on me when it pauses automatic uploads when not on wifi. Do not like!
I'm sticking with Dropbox for camera uploads as I will still have 10GB with them after they downgrade me. I'm not interested in Dropbox now they've busted the renewal relationship with Samsung.
I don't know why dropbox/samsung did this "new customers only" BS.... I got a free year with Evernote through Samsung's Note 4 promo, even though I already have a premium account with them.
I was too annoyed by this, however I went to Google Drive and upgraded to 100GB package which only costs $1.99 a month, so less than $24 a year for 100GB, seems like the best deal out there.
See here http://gavinsgadgets.wordpress.com/...x-bonus-space-on-samsung-galaxy-s5-no-chance/
This was situation with S5. Lots of people added their views too on thread.
Wow I didn't know that.. my other half had the s5 when it came out and got the free space. As I said in the OP I first got my space with my Galaxy s2 and it was renewed with the Galaxy s4, of course I assumed this tradition would continue.

Please help. I am torn between getting the Apple Iphone and the HTC Touch Diamond 2. I think i'm set on the diamond 2 but I've read about a lot of niggly problems with it which is preventing me from making the step. For example, the mp3 player.
Is it really that good?
Any advice is hugely appreciated!
MP3 player? well let me tell you one thing, i had 2 ipods one for the office and one for home.
NOW I am afraid that they have become obsolete to me, since i got my 32GB memory card. TD2 will do it! but bear in mind that you will be putting some pressure on your battery if you are using the device for the gps, phone and mp3.
Anyway i bought myslef xpal xp2000 just in case i run out of power.
Anyway getting back to your question, there is nothing wrong withthe mp3 and if you are not happy with the default player, you can instal many free 3rd party's software, like oxygen or S2P...
WITH THE DIAMOND2,THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!
I RECOMMEND IT
I HAVE HAD THESE PHONES FOR YEARS SINCE THE FIRST XDA GENERATION
i was torn like you before, cause i like apple so much, but who make my mind to have my diamond 2 that i found IPhone every time they will release an OS version you need to wait for the jalibreak to run your application from Cydia etc,,,,,,. which will make me unable to test and play with my phone as i would like. So i Decided to get my Diamond 2 and i am happy with it.
It was the freedom to install what you like on the phone that tempted me...and that it will get Windows Mobile 6.5 later in the year to iron out any niggles you mioght find. I'd also say that although people seem to hate them, the option to use a stylus every now and again does come in handy - you can type far faster with the stylus than the iphone touch keyboard, and you can write or draw notes in something like EverNote (very cool app).
One other point that few people seem to mention...the TD2 is much much (much!) cheaper than the iphone. I got mine through mobiles.co.uk for free at £30 a month for more texts and minutes than I'll ever need plus mobile internet. AND £40 cashback that pays for a nice big SD card to store your music! No brainer if you ask me...

If you don't mind me asking, which network have you signed up to because I was told that O2's contract does not include free wifi and internet usage and on the mobiles.co.uk webiste, it doesn't state whether the orange contracts do either

It was the "Orange Dolphin 40" - afraid you'll need the 24 month contract to get the mobile browsing. If you click on the TD2 from the mobiles.co.uk home page, then select the orange tab it should be listed as including 500mb data - that's your mobile browsing. Not exactly "unlimited" but it is the same in practice as o2's mobile browsing deal and more than enough for me as I use the wi-fi at home and work anyway.
How long did it take for you to receive the cash back offer from mobiles.co.uk?

Cheque arrived yesterday! That's with me placing the order originally on 14 May. They actually wait 14 days after you receive the phone (you can send it back in that period if you're not happy) then it's supposed to be another 14 to 28 days after that. Were pretty prompt with me though.
Of course if you're happy to wait longer, you get a much better deal with the 9 months half price offer - they send a cheque every 3 months I think.

Good choice, and hope you have fun with the phone. I should be charging them commission though...
I realise you already ordered yours, but for others considering the TD2, I am looking at http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/n447/p10957.aspx
mobile phones Direct
The contract I'm looking at is the T-Mobile Combi 30 +Web n Walk,
This gives 300mins, 200 Texts + the standard Web n Walk web allowance.
For: £35 a month, with the phone costing £33.
(I know it doesn't mention web on the 'Text & Web' bit, but I emailed them and the confirmed it does include it)
Seems a good deal, I've just got to persuade myself now!

I read somewhere on this forum that the TD2 only recognises 16gb memory cards. Does yours recognise the full 32gb of your card?
Didn't see this one coming. Go to amazon.com/cloudplayer
To summarize: Amazon did what Google's been planning to do for a while now.
Amazon uploads your music to the cloud and allows you to stream it to any device (logged in, of course) through their player. The first 5GB are free, 20GB is $20 a year, 100GB is $100 etc. From there, you can even choose to download the music to your SD.
Is anyone else as impressed as I am?
I'm also impressed. Never expected this from Amazon since I haven't read any rumors about it unlike with Google's and Apple's service.
The other feature that I believe is awesome is that any Amazon music purchase you make is automatically stored on your cloud account for free (doesn't use up your storage). So you don't really have to worry about backing up the music on multiple drives like you have to with iTunes purchases.
I already use Subsonic, but will probably be using this feature whenever I buy music from them.
Yah that back up is cool wish old purchases were backed up though.

All that's left now is for Amazon to clean up the music player a bit more. You can tell they put some amount of thought into the design (and took a few cues from the iOS music player) but IMO it could use a little polish.
Still, great work by Amazon. They stepped their game up, again.
This is amazing but it's only usable within the us

Its a fantastic service. I've filled up my 5gb quota already. If you buy a full album from amazon from now between December 31 you will get 20GB storage for free
You can buy this "album" (1 song for 69 CENTS) and get the 20gigs for a year. I did it.

I have some kind of discount show up on my receipt, so I actually only paid 39 CENTS lol.

Worth it. Just barely though, as the fact that it's glee raises the mental cost a little bit
Amazon is currently on a big time lawsuit against the big guys at Hollywood and DMA copywright people, it was all over the news yesterday
if they fall through, then this can backfire as a new weapon/ammo for the DMA people to crack down on MP3 music collections
so, IMO i'll wait until the dust settles before signing up for the account with Amazon
there are plenty of other good ones like mSpot and CX and much more for cloud music streaming
and there are even those you can host in your own home computer, as mentioned in the other topic
... you know... just us typical paranoids about the feds spying on us
It's just a new hue for a seven-month-old phone, but there are still a few Nexus 4 enthusiasts who are ecstatic that a white version has finally been released. It officially launched two days ago in Hong Kong, but it's now hitting the US Google Play Store, as well as T-Mobile's website "for a limited time." If the $299 / $349 Play Store price is above your budget, the UnCarrier's financing plan will be your best option: it's offering the alabaster Android device for $20 down with 24 monthly payments of $17. If your country's Play Store isn't selling the new color yet, be patient -- its rollout over the rest of North America, Asia and Europe will continue over the next few weeks.

Where's my free bumper? I just bought my Nexus 2 months ago
Oh well. Even had I had the knowledge of all of this two months ago, I wouldn't have waited.
Ugh I just received my Nexus 4 in the mail yesterday and found out about the free bumper promotion. Called Google today, they told me to return the phone and reorder it for the free bumper, I asked them if i could just get my order refunded $20. They said no, It's ****ing backwards how they want to do this. I already got my screen protector applied and my phone rooted and custom rom installed; I'm just gonna cut my losses and take the $20 hit.
Edit: Might as well try emailing them, I got nothing to lose.
T-Mobile posted on Facebook saying the white one is available through them too in limited quantities. But it says online "Note: This item is not eligible for a monthly payment plan." So you would be paying $427 99 from T-Mobile up front.
Ordered the white one today... Time to sell the black one

I plan to root, install custom rom and just experiment a lot with it. Have the occasional videos and music and some games/apps too.
8gb or 16gb, thoughts? Thanks.

I don't store any media on my device and I have 6.32GB left. All the space is taken by nandroids and apps and stuff. I guess if you're really going to get into flashing ROMs and experimenting with your phone, I'd go 16gb, just so you have to shuffle things from your device to the computer way less.

Okay makes sense, but in regards to flashing ROMS, wouldn't I have to factory reset after each flash and as a result all data would be deleted?

we used to be able to bill phones to our account a year or so ago and they got rid of it after so many years (been with them since 2002).. IMO they should of grandfathered customers who had the option and had their account in good standing.. it was convenient.. not sure if there was a time limit you had to pay the balance but i always paid it in full when i got the bill.

this option sound interesting, but i would guess there must be some catch.. how about those eligible for an upgrade, no phone discount? kind of sounds like you have to pay retail price.. haven't fully read the details yet, but it looks like you also have to return the old device when you upgrade?
btw, sprint has always had different class rating for each account. meaning they assign a rating to each account when it's opened. higher credit score meant you could have many lines and bill to account, those with lower score/class could only have 1 or 2 lines and no billing on account. i also believe after a certain amount of years they would increase your score if you paid your bill on time so you could get additional lines or maybe even get the bill-to account privileges.. i don't see how this can be that big a problem (people sending accounts into collections) more than they already do.
as long as I'm not getting screwed in the end, I'm all for this as I like to upgrade often lol, my wife says I have a problem

This is one of the benefits/features I miss the most and one I wish they'd bring back. I bought more phones, off contract, through BTA (bill to account) than I do without it. I always re-sign up for 2yr contracts so they weren't losing my monthly business they were simply selling phones at full retail on top of it.
Back in the bta days, you had a month to pay your account in full. If you could time it right, you could make it so the new phone wouldn't show up on the next bill. I forgot how to do that. Collections would start calling if you still had a balance the second month. I'd like to get the note 3 but I'm afraid there's not much of a hardware improvement to justify going into debt. Yeah a bigger screen and battery, but still. I'm not sure if they improved the camera module or if it's the same one that's in this phone.

I may be wrong, but i believe you can still "bill" a phone to your account. I recently purchased my S4 at best buy. I was asked to verify my account...after verifying, the best buy sales person made a call to Sprint questioning what he saw on the screen. I patiently/politely waited. Sprint confirmed to the salesperson what he was seeing. I've been with Sprint for 10ish so years...evidently I have no limits on devices or charges(correct term)? He asked if I wanted the device to be billed to my account or if I would pay them. I chose to pay and didn't think anything else about it until now. At the time of purchase, 4 weeks ago, I had the opportunity to bill my account the purchase price of the phone.
Edit: I had the opportunity to bill 2 lines. My wife kindly just reminded that we bought her phone at the same time. And she remembers thinking that it pays to pay on time.

Yeah, I gotta say, that's a pretty crappy thing for google to do. Forcing people to now use a purchased plan(like everybody else) to store your original quality pics. I will defend google over most other OEM's any day of the week, but this is pretty hard to swallow. I don't even use it, but it's still a shady practice
At first I wasn't happy with them removing unlimited original quality. After thinking about it, they are a for profit company after all and they want more people to get into their One Drive subscriptions. I've actually had their 100GB for $20/year (Which isn't that's much at all) and am only using only 13.24GB of it. I still have 90.76GB to spare. Who know how long or short that's going to last me. I take mostly pictures and only 30-60 second video shots once in a while. And in comparison, who else is even offer unlimited high quality backups of photos and videos? That alone is pretty generous in of itself. If anything,Google was spoiling us the last 3 Pixels.
Also, iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max 64 GB models are $999 and $1099 respectively and offer no free unlimited backup. Yes I know they have a handful of features Pixels don't, but just saying.

That's true and actually any Android phone gets unlimited high quality backups. But all my non-techy friends who have iPhones really don't use Google Photos. They're so tied to Apple's ecosystem and pay iCloud or just full up their free space. If anything, they could've made that feature Pixel only and really piss people off. LOL. For real, I don't disagree though that it was a big differentiating feature of Pixel phones.

It's not a deal breaker at all. Let me tell you why.....1. nothing will stay free forever. Name another company that gives you free unlimited storage full size including 4k video and 2. This is a good one....I've been a Google one subscriber for a couple years now and guess how much I've paid out of pocket....$0! Simply because they give you the Google rewards app to answer silly surveys and pay you for it. Guess where all my earnings go...towards my google subscription. I currently have $16 in rewards and as they take payments I get enough surveys that builds my money back up. So in essence, it's still free.

I just did the math on my rewards and it's $30.78 per/year since November 2013 for me. That's good enough for the $30/year for 200GB.

Lol nailed it. I've even bought stuff in between with my earnings and still haven't paid out of pocket. It's a no brainer man.
I guess Google doesn't like me, it says no survey at this time ?
Keep in mind also, Google One subs also receive other benefits as well. I have received a free home mini, got $200 off my 3 XL, a $5 credit on the play store. I was on a 1TB Drive sub, they doubled my storage to 2 TB for the same price when One was released.
Currently you get 10% store credit on Google store purchases. They have a deal for up to 40% off on hotels. They add new deals now and then.
In total I get $200 store credit for ordering the 4 XL.
I understand not everyone would like/use Google store credit, but it does offset the cost of doing business with Google if you take advantage.
And yes, Google rewards is also a great way to get 'free' stuff from them, I currently am at $124.30 lifetime in rewards from them.
If you wanna get real crazy, look up Google user research and join that, they have paid up to $100 an hour (that I have seen) for participation.

See, this is the stuff people don't talk about. Instead they just bash on Google for taking away free unlimited storage at full size....amongst other things that are business decisions.

I get the backlash, the reality of todays world is people want free stuff. Who wouldn't? I love free stuff as much as the next, but the reality is, it isn't really free, somewhere along the line, someone is paying for it.

Exactly. I get it. It's just really sad it's like this. I mean they just talk about Google taking away free storage...but not one article seems to mention hey, you want free? Just use Google rewards and they pay you which in turn can go towards a Google one subscription. Just the hate on them is sick. Oh well I guess.
First off, Google Surveys is the sheeeeet! I've made $70+ with it, and I only signed up this year. I've used it on a lot of paid apps that are awesome. I guess the storage is a good thing to use it for now. No biggie there I guess. It balances out.
Also, I'm a cloud architect, and storage is still VERY expensive. Google likely uses SSD's for there photos backups for quick retrieval too, not to mention a very high speed network between their data centers. Those things are EXPENSIVE. And full 4k video, plus 1080p photos from millions of users? Just imagine how much that costs Google. This simply could not last forever. I don't like this either, but I'll just pay the $1.99 or $2.99 per month with my surveys money. No loss.
Also, consider that Apple doesn't do this for free. I doubt Samsung does either. So, making this a huge deal is pretty bratty IMO.

They don't just popup when you first open it. 90% of the surveys are for places you've been (or it thinks you've been, think nearby stuff), the rest are YouTube, YouTube music stuff and some random other things. Once you start going places you'll start getting them. I typically get one for YouTube whatever after anytime I use my Nest Hub to stream music from YTM. Those are like 50-75 cents per. The others expect 10 cents to 50 cents per.

right on, I appreciate the input. Would have thanked the post, but apparently I've reached my quota for the day. WTF
Just did my first survey. .20 cents, but it was free and I am sure it adds up quick. Thanks for the tip, guys ??
