In my lower half of the screen I have a bright spot visible only on light background. My device is just a few days old. Anyone else encountered this? Should I worry about it?

Sorry this might seem silly, but have you checked that the lens is clean? Or maybe there is a bit of dust that has gotten inside the casing and onto the lens? I guess if it's bright enough, then you should be able to have it fixed on warranty.
The lens is part of the camera and has nothing to do with the screen. The screens are backlit by a source of light and mine has a bleed spot. I've seen this before on laptops too.
I think I have it too, left side, a little lower then the middle of the screen. It shows better in the brightest screen setting but it's still pretty discreet. I wouldn't worry about it.

So, I sent the unit back and got a replacement. It was pretty annoying to me as I was constanlty distracted by the bright spot. The carrier (Orange Romania) was very cool about it and sent the replacement ahead to make the switch at my house so I wouldn't have to send it in, wait for them to verify the fault, sent a replacemet in a week or so and be left without a <propper> phone . Very pleased and so far I can't identify any faults.
I received my device today and after playing with it for a few hours, I noticed a light blob on the top-right side of the screen. Such a shame
Hopefully I'll get a replacement asap.
I have a similar spot, but it is in the right bottom corner. These spot seem to appear near the buttons. My theory is that by bending the phone something from the inside of the phone pushes against the display and creates the spots.
mine is from the left edge, thumb size. It's visible on dark background. Sony mobile displays are pure crap, the worst I've seen on any smartphone. Never buy Sony again!

Anyone else experiencing visible blacklight from the screen edges? I have a very pronounced strip of blacklight coming from my right hand side when viewing bright content from a slight angle. Compared to the other side, it looks like a defect.

It`s totally normal the led`s are not on the back, but on the side of the screen and a light guide channels the light across the screen, this is what happens on every lcd screen, the word back-light is an misnomer.
EDIT: so the white led`s are at the right side of the screen and light goes across the screen to the left side, that is why the light does not show on the left side as much.
But the light should not be excessive., if it is get it replaced.
John.
Yeah. I know that this is how edge led lit LCD's work. But does every H1 owner have this clearly visible strip along one edge?
I can see it to a much lesser extent on my father's H1.
My old HOX does not have this at all. The HOX screen even looks better as it seems like it is floating on the glass surface!

I have check my One five times for dead pixels and for backlight leakage and i saw nothing.
I just checked for backlight leakage again using lcdtest at full brightness though all the colors, and mine is very very slight, really nothing at all
Yours is quite bad, if it`s bothering you get an exchange, but you dont know what you will get.
EDIT : I had a HOX and the display was perfect, but after 2-3 days i had a yellow patch show up, and i returned it and got an S3 instead.

Thanks. Anyone else care to check their screens? I have the opportunity to send it in for a repair, but unsure if I want to be phoneless the next few weeks...
Does anyone get any inconsistent light bleed at the bottom of the screen, I know light bleed is normal in current screen technology, i'm just curious, top and left/right side looks fine on my unit, it's just the bottom, I will not return my unit as it isn't realy consider a defect.

Mine does not have any light bleed...

Come to think of it, you can only see it if you are on the lock screen using the white, rose or white background, I did notice this as well on the other units before I chosen this one as my final one.
I have a slight light bleed on the bottom right hand corner. i only notice it if i really look for it,. it only shows on brighter colors. Only thing im afraid of is it getting worse.. my xperia z3 compact had the same issue, but way worse. it was yellowish, so i think it was the glue melting or something. whats crazy about the z3 compact having the issue is; i bought the phone with a cracked display and sent it to Sony to fix/replace everything that was broken and i received it like that. i havent owned one IPS display device without having light bleed.
PS. i have the xperia x, non performance.
No light bleed here. You're talking bottom of screen above speaker?

im talking about the very bottom right part of the bezel. think of it as if you had a white tool bar at the very bottom, you would notice it on the right edge of the screen, on the bottom portion. it goes up about half an inch. I would get it replaced, but then id be without a phone and i only really notice it if im looking for it.. still bugs me with my OCD though

I'm looking and don't see it. My only issue which doesn't affect functionality and that I ignore is that my front camera isn't quite centered in the opening. It's slightly shifted to the right. It's weird because when I check the phone I don't see any gaps even with a flashlight. But no big deal.

All I have is a row of very faint light dark light dark light....... along the bottom from one end to the other, I think its just the row of LED along the bottom, I have check many units from friends and display model, they all have this.
But since it's very faint and only shows with white or beige background, it isn't important and I don't think its a defect.

If you open diagnostics, screen test and look at the full white page.. Do you notice light in the bottom of each corner? (not the top ones, but bottom). I just got my replacement because it was bothering me on my last unit.. this one has the EXACT issue, in the exact spots (more noticable on the right side). a pure black screen looks perfect though? i just think that is so odd.
also, i do notice the black strip you're talking about, i think it has to do with those leds being visable

This issue isn't bothing me, but there is a problem I have noticed, not sure if it was their during my purchase or it suddenly just popped out, but in a white screen I do have a patch about 3mm-4mm which is white that shows up, it's much whiter than the actual screen if you have white and also shows up in a biege background, I think it's what people are calling a light bleed I guess, it's on the bottom left corner about 10mm from the left and 15mm from the bottom.
I took it to a local xperia service center yesterday, and they say it could be two reasons behind it, either something is pressing on the back of the screen or a defective LCD panel, either way they say my warranty covers it, it's a shame as It was sort of a perfect screen free from any pixel problems that I find with many xperia phones.
I will have them to service it after my holiday in early October.

Excuse my edited picture above, here what im experiencing. looks way worse at night. more of an OCD thing, but it does bother me that i paid full price and whatnot. the light bleed actually goes across the whole bottom, not just the edges. just harder to see in this lightning (im at work)

exactly same problem here
Noticed something for the first time today. Looks like there's light bleeding from the left side edge of my screen where it meets the frame. It's not uniform either so it makes me think that there was some sealent that detached somehow. Anyone else have this issue? I'll try and take a pic once I have another camera to use.
Looks like the same is happening to mine. Left side bottom corner. Actually seems to just be the paint under the glass is peeling away or something? Doesn't seem like it's physically open, compromising the water resistance.
Look like this?
Sent mine in like 2 weeks ago. Still waiting for them to ship it back.
They managed to replace the LCD and motherboard for some reason... wth Samsung
another thread...its not light bleed -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/light-bleed-t3670247
Dang. That's too bright for a dark room.
Huh just noticed that on mine too. Not that bad though but still noticable.
Composed on Galaxy Note8
I've had 2 replacements so far. First one was on the left side from top to bottom. Second phone was all round. Looked the screen had it's own halo!
Interestingly the store manager said that this is not the norm having compared them against the the display phones in store and his own Note 8 which were all flawless!
Whether it's the light reflecting from the screen etc etc, i personally believe this should not be like this, not when there is so much inconsistency between flawless handsets and handsets with the light bleed.
Samsung needs to address this and actually take ownership.
This is one of the first things i checked when i got my Note 8. Mine doesn't have this "bleed"
Before I installed UV screen protector I noticed this stripe under UV lamp. Is that normal?
I saw that too, when installing the Whitestone Dome, and have not noticed any problems.
I noticed the same thing when installing my whitestone... assuming it's normal, my display is good under normal circumstances as far as I can tell

it's basically the same shape that shown on my screen whenever the screen display dark color contrasts (but not true blacks)...that seems to resemble a burn-in.
Hi everyone, I don't think this is anything to worry about. I found the same blob on my Huawei Mate 20 Pro whilst I was trying to cure my green screen.
I then checked my partners s9 and it also had the same blob so it's definitely not screen burn.
I was told it's the loca glue used in the manufacturing process. Same thing on the Pixel 3 XL's and Note 8's. I wouldn't worry about it.

Theres almost no way it's a burn in. I have this on my brand new unit that i noticed on the 1st day of use before installing my Whitestone. At this point the screen and only been on for about 20 mins. I know this because my phone as of now only has 31 charging cycles on it.

Yup normal. However I seen a user on here who had it discolor and could be seen under normal use.
Been looking into it why I'm at work. It is an optical adhesive and perfectly normal. However from what I'm guessing Samsung let a few out with bad adhesive and that's what causesd his what he thought was burn in.
But normal to see it under uv under certain wave length's. If you see it without UV light then that is an issue. Or if you have your display on and can see the outline of it.
Same Norland adhesive we use at my work on some of our optical stuff.
Just a heads up. The light they give you with the dome is not the right wavelength for the adhesive they use. Final cure you will wanna do 2 min total for each top and bottom. If not the adhesive will still be green "not fully cured" the adhesive they use is on the cheeper end of the spectrum but fine for what it is being used for. That much adhesive in a top of the line product would be around $30. But I used it on my. Did a final cure of 2 min top and bottom. Checked it out under a high power microscope and it was fully cured. No issues with it lifting.

So you've been meaning to say that if we see this without UV light (which I see in my device when I'm in a dim room and I let my phone show dark grey to dark green colors), then it's not normal? Then if it's Samsung fault, would they fix it in a repair center (hopefully free of charge)?
Im just quite pissed off for this since I came from S9+ and I havent had any issues with the screen. Couldn't they be at least consistent with things like this given the fact the display is one of the most selling point of this phone?
p.s. and oh, just to add, what's appearing on mine is not just some rectangular flat discoloration on my screen, it has dark polkadots lined in a grid inside just like many others have been complaining about.

I saw the same when installing my dome glass. No issues with the display.

Can see green polka dot kind of burn in during normal use. Phone is only 3 months old. I take care of my phone religiously. Just noticed a few days ago and now it's all I see.

So I've just been using my phone in low light and ive noticed there is light showing through a gap between the screen and the phones frame.
It starts just above the power button and goes for about 30mm upwards.
Going to the service centre on Sunday. I really hope they replace it rather than try a screen replacement. I'm just worried it's the battery expanding.
I've circled it in blue. The light below it is the edge of my screen protector.
For the record my phone is unmarked never been dropped.
I noticed the same issue after I had my screen replaced. There was no gap out of the box, and now I'm worried about water resistance, on top of other things.

Most of the note 9 got it, I also do and didn't have a single problem for 8-9 months. Returning the phone like that if not really soon after purchase will lead to refurbished phone given to you (99% about that) and I think it's safe to say that refurbished phone used from someone else and having God knowns what issue fixed (hopefully) is worse than having a slight light bleed reflection.
Still, while I am saying that I strongly think that 1000 euro priced phone should not have such a QA defects (even a 300 euro one should not). Beside that my note 9 is literally flawlessly perfect and my display is also 100% perfect uniformity (you can search for that problem, part of the screen are less bright vs others... and this is a deal break).
