[Q] Screen problem - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently replaced a cracked screen from a friend's xperia Z. I handled the flex cables very carefully and double checked them. The screen doesn't work properly though. Here is a sample of what it looks like
I noticed it doesn't have this flickering effect down at the buttons. Do you think it could be software related? I did a full recovery with pc companion to be sure but got the same result anyway.

Thats the famous Touch screen bug of SP. While charging or after charging SP's screen will not respond... Some users face this problem before... I think u have to giv ur mobile to the service center for a replacement if u have Warranty
I have this problem too... And my XSP is out of warranty perhaps that could help us? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35934117&postcount=1 But the phone won't let me to install that apk
I'm a bit desperate so I have also tried to use this apk: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10995856&postcount=1 and even an apk for Xperia Z Ultra: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46177477&postcount=1, still no luck Can anybody help, please? Is there a solution for this bug?

if u are rooted go to system/usr/idc/clearpad.idc
touch.pressure.scale 1.0 [instead of 0.0074]
touch.size.scale= 20.00 [ instead of 16.91]
touch.size.bias= 70.00 [instead of 67.65]
i take it from somewhere i dint remember...
note: im on recaf 4.4 but those unrespond touchscreen while charging also there... i think its a hardware problems T___T
I have the same problem. It's strange because when i'm using my samsung charger there is no problem, but with the original one the touch is often unresponsible.
I think that the problem comes from the charger.
When your phone is on charger and your touchscreen is not working properly remove the charger, clean it and wrap a copper wire around it. The thinner the better. The problem is caused by bad earthing from the electrisity and this causes the touchscreen problems
Can it be the problem come from wrong root?
To become a good respond from touch i must hold a finger on the frame, hold it on hand, plugin USB or put on metallic ground. (phone rooted)
After unroot/repair with SUS the problem was gone. I can charge, reboot, lock, unlock or any other thing, but i have extremely good response from touch on all undergrounds.
After root the problem is coming back again. doomloard or chinese root its the same.
Here is a Video after root: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JZJj867DQI
I think we need a better root.

Yes and no.
Yes: Only if you modified systemfiles regarding touch
No: Since it is a hw issue. However after a reflash i did not encounter this issue at my phone. I also have Glove mode disabled :good:

Hi all.
I'm a complete novice at this but I bought this phone today and have the top of screen not working problem, rooted through towelroot(?) and now I'm trying this method but after I've entered the values it keeps giving me an error message. Is there a step I'm missing out to get it to save? I'm using ES file explorer if that helps.
Cheers

genius.
worked perfectly. i can even type now in a fal surface:victory:
Touch Screen permanent fix
Had intermittent touch screen issues for over 3 months
Tried different stock kernels and stock ROMS 254/205 even tried the clearpad.idc tweak ..........and yet after a few days the issue returns
Restarting the mobile solves the issue for a short period of time
Leaving the mobile on a any flat surface can make the issue return
Clutching at straws I rooted and unlocked the bootloaded and installed the MIUI Rom
....the touch screen was terrible right from the first boot ......then I had an idea of trying different cases on the mobile!!!
All was solved just by changing my case over to a soft rubberised silicone one
The screen just started working as if by magic, I took the rubber case off and the touch screen stopped working right away...!
Anybody suffering the dreaded touch screen Xperia SP on any ROM simply fit a soft silicone/rubber case
It seems to restore the touch screen back to 100% all the time on any surface

It worked for me since day 1 (last year), original thread is HERE by mrsatan though.
Was included it in my rom for X10 on the past and it worked flawlessly, but it may reduce battery life a little bit.

[Q] x8 restarting after screen light timeout

My xperia x8 is driving me insane. Everytime my mobile's screen turns off/times out, after 2-3 seconds it restarts. I have flashed it's stock firmware i found on the web because i was dealing with the same issue before with the difference that before the flash, it wouldn't occur only on screen timeout, but it could happen anytime, usualy exactly after the boot. I also bought a new battery just to be sure because the previous one was a little puffed but that didn't help. Please help me fix my mobile please
Have you tried a different variation of the same stock firmware? If not I would give it a go. Idk what you have done, but a factory reset through flashtool should set things straight.

Remove your battery, check the little patch behind it for water damage. That is all I can think of. Because flashing those .ftfs is literally wiping your device as clean as it will go. So it sounds like something wrong more on the hardware side of things. Because if you have an issue in one ROM, if it is software related, it should not transcend into the other.

i had bought a new battery because the old one was a little buffed. the upside was that it kept going until the screen timeout, when with the old battery it would restart instantly after the sony ericsson screen. Could it be kernel issue or something like that? The device was my brother's who took care of it alot. he never droped it or anything. My last guess is that he charged it with a different charger not optimal for the device, that's why the buffed battery and the hardware issue! sounds plausible?
i just asked him and he told me he actually did, multiple times. Does this senario stand?

It won't be a kernel issue if you have fully flashed stock .ftfs. But booting to the first Sony Erricson boot screen would usually indicate a kernel issue or problem with the chargemon.

pc companion was the first thing i tried, before buying a new battery.didn't make a difference. as i told before, is it plausible that the charging with a non sony ericsson charger caused the problem? i tried 3 stock roms, i don't think its a sw problem anymore. i am thinking of taking it to sony's tecs to give it a look but i don't want them to play smartasses on me so tracking the problem as much as possible would be a good start.

xperia z 4.4.4 keeps shutting down

Hi there, i'm using a xperia z c6603 4.4.4 for about 10months. Suddenly since last week i'm encountering a problem with my device which is my phone turns off itself while i'm talking and it restarts itself while i put it in my pocket. Otherwise my device is fine to use. I think it's a problem caused by my phone's proximinity sensor. What shall i do now? Hope for help soon, tq.

most likely its a hardware problem and you should try a sony certified service point and if your phone is under warranty then its going to be free

What do you have on screen when enter on services tests, proximity sensor if it's on your proximity is broken or try to reset customization
This is my screenshot

Part of the screen not responding to touch

As the title says part of my screen is not responding anymore and to make matters worse the part not responding is right on the home and recents keys
I tried:
flashing another firmware
deleting everything even the software
flashing another rom
I know that i can use xposed and change the dpi or assign an alternative hardware button.
So my question is: Can i fix it without mendling with the hardware of my phone and without spending any money on a new screen?
Because when i try to press the button, it doesnt responds, it shows the touch feedback exactly above the button but when i try to open the camera from the lockscreen it opens without a problem
PS: I didnt drop it and I dont have warranty since I have the phone for 2 years now
Hi friend there are to solution go to a repair shop and tell the probleme to him if he can just repair the screen to show if one of the cable in a good position or try to buy another screen and go to a repair shop to replace the screen

ok im kinda starting to get frustrated with my phone right now and since i excluded all other options im guessing the digitizer is broken
As easy as it sounds try the sony PC companion > repair my device (or something). A similar issue with screen calibration was on X-ZR.
On my Z, I had some nasty bootloops from messing with DRM content and root access. To make things worse FlashTool didn't help one bit (wiping included). Magically pc companion did the trick. If your issue is software, than it's worth a try (nand backup data partition for ulterior easy restore).
It seems impossible to be a hardware issue (mine got dropped so many times and I tortured the sys so many times it barely knows up and down). So try the repair thingy in PC companion you have nothing to lose.

Help, my XZ1 C was dead?

Hi!
Please help me!
I installed custom ROM(no SeLinux support) and tested two partitioning programs.
ROEHSOFT PARTITION TOOL
and
ROEHSOFT DRIVE-EXPERT
I did a partition recovery and reboot the phone.
Since then, it doesn't turn on, doesn't charge, no led feedback, can't see the pc, and no fastboot mode, completely dead.
I disassembled, disconnected the battery, but nothing happened.
Died?
What can you do with it even if your PC can't see it?
The two partition programs, in stock rom, did not start, but this rom (selinux is inactive) was ran.
What happened to him being completely dead?
THX

Obvious question, have you made sure it’s turned off before you try to boot it? The screen might just be black but the unit still on.
Hold down Vol up (+) and power together until the phone vibrates three times. Wait a couple of seconds, then press the power button once to try and start it.
As long as the screen wakes up, then you’re in with a chance of getting PC Companion or Flashtool to see it and rescue it.
This was an unlocked phone? If no, then there's a slim chance that you haven't done any permenent damage and you might be able to re-flash.
If you don’t get any joy from a reset, then you have rodgered your partition table and there isn’t any way to bring it back from that.
@dustinzahn, in my opinion, changing partition is very risky. Most likely it is a brick already, no way to recover, if it does not enter fastboot nor sony flash mode.
RIP
Hi Guys!
Thanx the answers.
BUT...
XZ1 C doesn't have a testpoint like Z1?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2682255&page=13
THX!
Yes, unlocked, but hiding J4nn-s kernel, OEM closed the menu.
I tried everything.
It doesn't vibrate, can't detect the PC.
In old xperia's, touching testpoint fixed this and entered fastboot.
I can't find a testpoint on this.

Hi!

Do you know the IMEI number?
You could register the phone on the Sony Warranty site , then call the helpdesk and say it's stopped working.
You might be required to provide some proof of purchase, but if it's within two years of its original sale, then it's covered by warranty (EU &UK).
Don't worry if you didn't buy it new, the warranty moves with the phone, not the purchaser. If it was sold through a service provider, putting the IMEI number in will tell you when it was origally sold and what, if any, warraty is left.
Edit: might be a bit late if you've pulled it apart

Sorry, I thought they had posted pics of an Z1C. Unless there is anything under those heat shield things you might be out of luck.
These are much better pictures, I removed the battery, there are a few testpoint candidates.

And the results of your testing?
I give up.
Sorry, my English is not very good, I use the google translator, I'm trying to be understandable.
Stupid Sony designed the motherboard that the test point section right on the bottom half. The phone must be disassembled from the display side.
It's almost impossible to press the test point and while using the usb.
I also broke the flex cable, and I was tired and irritated, so the display cable also damaged.
I tried all the existing "test points" , but nothing happened. He probably didn't survive the procedure.
If the motherboard is good, the display and the USB flex replacement is almost a used XZ1C price, so it landed in the drawer. It'll be good for decoration.
But I found my first smartphone, a sony ERICSSON Mt15i, Neo.
I was originally a Sony Ericcson fan.
The touch screen is bad, but I've already assigned it.
I have a z1 compact, there's the power + volume flex cable must replace, I also ordered it.
Neo now works with an OTG + mouse, but the Z1 Compact does not turn on without a button, only indicates charging.
The Hungarian Sony support was big ****, and the Hungarian warranty service doesn't want to help, even though I told them it's the phone no longer a warranty, all I'm asking is that you help me identify the test point.
But no, they're just indoctrinate me, and they think it can only be repaired by replacing a motherboard.
Yesterday I bought a Xiaomi MI Note 10 phone. It's awesome.
I hope the russel5's [Treble/Pie/XZ1c] crDroid will be there as well.
I liked this ROM, but the disabled SeLinux is a big problem, I think the problematic apk is because of what killed the phone. The STOCK and [Treble/Pie/XZ1c] AOSP Extended ROM did not start the apk, even though i gave him root right.
I think the CrDroid ROM's disabled SeLinux let it run.
Maybe the apk was infected, but I use Malwerbyte and Kaspersky.
The Apk name is ROEHSOFT PARTITION TOOL SD-USB and I download from the Aptoide.
I know I'm a ****ing idiot.
Partition program should not have been downloaded from there.
