[Q] Soak test invite 5.0? - Moto X Q&A

Did anybody got an invite for soak test 5.0 yet?
Just curiosity, as I have got invites for all previous versions I was wondering whether a soak test 5.0 ís already set (leaving me off), or 5.0 @ Moto is not ready for showtime on the short term yet - or they choose to skip soak testing?

Update is here...?

I am on 901 though, I wonder if it will not let me update?
901 too do we have to use pathsaver and go back to 893??

So much for Moto supporting the people that got 901 pushed to them by accident. Gonna have to pathsaver it up tonight I guess. No more installing leaks for me again.
whether or not .901 has taken you off the upgrade path or not has yet to be verified. As far as I can tell anyone on .901 that is a part of the soak test being conducted currently has not posted with a firm yes or no.
When it gets pushed OTA to everyone else is when we will know for sure.
We have no idea if there's going to be an update for the people who OFFICIALLY got 901 pushed to them or not. I wouldn't panic just yet. We're only seeing this being pushed out to soak testers right now. Once it gets pushed out officially it's entirely possible we'll see the 901 users getting their own update. The soak testers are getting the 893->902 update so that's all we currently know about.
EDIT: Darca ninja'd me.
I think it's official and not a soak test. Verizon has it listed on their page. Here is the link http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_bionic.pdf
Not according to those that got the soak test email. One person was saying that they got the email and 5 minutes later they got the update notification on their phone. Just because VZW pushes out the release notes does not invalidate a soak test. A soak test is just that...the first batch of users to get the update pushed to them to see if there are any issues. It's not just testing the update, it's testing the update process itself with a few thousand users to see how smooth it is. If no major issues are reported in a few days, it starts going out in batches to the wider audience.

Do you think that an update is coming?

We've had leaked versions from Motorola's staging servers since February, and Motorola sent out an invite to potential soak testers in March (which they have not yet acted on).
I don't really expect much out of an update other than kernel and radio updates (I get everything else from the awesome ROMs by our devs), but I'd still like to see something come out!!
So, with that in mind, please feel free to rant and speculate below.
I wouldn't be surprised with nothing coming in the future.
Because Motorola is a whore.
I've seen a couple of posts on various forums with peole receiving replacement or new Droid 3s that already have the 906 update installed. It's possible they've just decided to skip the soak test and are planning to push the update soon. Of couse this is entirely just speculation.

My replacement Droid 3 came with the .906 update already installed. Hopefully they'll roll it out soon so the fastboot files will leak

My brother's replacement he got last week came with 890. Was kinda of happy about that since there's not way back from 906 last time i checked.
D2 and D4 Received Updates This Week
DroidForums.net reported on their Twitter feed that updates for the Droid 2 and Droid 4 rolled out on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. Hopefully we'll see something soon for our phone!
I hadn't seen that (but then again, I don't do much twitter so no surprise I guess
I am really considering just installing the 906 update anyway, but if this is coming soon I'd rather the official update.

Are there really NEW new Droid 3's out there with .906? I can understand a refurb coming with it (due to some flaw in the refurb process where Moto forgets to do a true factory reset on a user-updated device). It's all speculative as you say, but that would be a good sign...
No

Moto X Verizon Update?

Since we'll never be getting the update on Verizon (unless any of you have any info) I would like to ask my Sprint/T-Mobile variant users how the new camera/etc. update is? Does it fix the stupid robotic crap that happens all the time in the middle of a call that makes the call sound absolutely horrendous? Must be nice for you guys to get updates so timely.
I twated with Verizon support and they said it was forthcoming. Pretty helpful, eh? They said watch the news channel on their website.

I asked a rep at moto care and all they could tell me is an update will be available as soon as it's ready. I grabbed the sbf files and plan on trying to use the files from the other builds to make a hackneyed update.
I'm betting we get the update before 10/14. That's just a guess based on the phone's release date and the build date that's sitting on the current Verizon software (kernel was built on 8/7 and phone was released on 8/29).
I'd say we'll get an email this week saying the soak test is starting "soon" and we might start to see it roll out this weekend over the next 2 weeks as it's a fairly minor update.

[Q] Any sightings of the official VZ 4.4.2 OTA?

I'm in the midst of rooting - grabbing a late hour here, late hour there. Probably about 50% through the whole SlapMyMoto downgrade / upgrade process.
Was warned that I need to get this done asap, as once 4.4.2 is out, all bets are off.
As part of the SlapMyMoto process involves allowing the phone to upgrade via the 4.4. OTA, I'm getting a bit nervous that I'd get 4.4.2 instead. Hence the question as to whether VZ's 4.4.2 OTA had been sighted yet...
Any and all insights appreciated.
TIA
GG
so far nothing yet on VZW.
just to be sure... are you absolutely set on rooting? i only ask because the Moto X in my opinion is by far nearest to being perfect and i'm looking forward the 4.4.2 OTA (whenever it comes out). I haven't had the root/rom bug since this phone. all other androids i've owned i've always been a flashaholic.

The OTA upgrades have been incremental. So you'll step up from 4.2.2 to 4.4 to 4.4.2.
Makes perfect sense. My stress levels just dropped back to zero.
This is why this board is worth its weight in gold.
Thank you for the insight.

Sprint is next to get 4.4.2 and they are still in the soak test. Verizon soak test hasn't even begun.
Guy on reddit got 4.4.2 on Verizon today. Said he works for Verizon. Produced a screenshot too but failed to grab the OTA link for us

So the verizon soak test will start soon.

Just got an email about the soak test myself.

[Q] Android Lollipop Update

Today I contacted Motorola Help for an ETA on Latest Android OS update(lollipop) and I found out Its already been released in USA.. is it true
According to news on the Net, Lollipop roll out was put back, as there was a serious battery drain using Wifi.
http://www.zdnet.com/android-lollipop-rollout-delayed-due-to-battery-drain-bug-7000035508/
Not sure how accurate the ETA is as other sites today confirm issue is fixed. So the answer really is we will have it soonish.

And yesterday, I thought the same thing.
Sheesh, Motorola killing it with the update speed: soak tests for both 2nd gen Moto G and 2nd Moto X, even before the Nexus 5.
So, are the soak tests US-only?
The Moto X 2014 seem to got it now
Hopefully we'll be next!

Yup. Mostly US users. But if you are a ultimate feedbacker to Motorola then you may have received it no matter on which country you are. For that we need a carrier free (unlocked) Moto G. Carrier variants will follow shortly.
