[Q] importing, exporting, and deleting contacts - LG Optimus L90

How do you import contacts from a file? I have my old phone's contacts in a vcf file. Where do I put this file so that the import function will find it?
How do you edit and delete contacts? <--This can be done with the People app. Scratch this part.
Where do the exported contacts end up?
Thanks,
Jim

Connect phone to computer.
Drag file anywhere on phone or SD card (remember where.)
Disconnect from computer.
In contacts app, click menu > import/export
follow prompts.
Exported contacts end up where you choose on phone or sd card.

The good news is that if you select the correct location for the vcf file; the phone has an excellent chance of finding it.
The People app is very helpful also.

Anybody successfully imported vcf to the Captivate address book?

I've exported my address book and now when I import it I get a parse error. I'm getting frustrated here.

Have you tried to import using gmail contacts? I have always used that.
I did see that when you open the contacts > menu > more > import/ export > import from SD card or Export to SD card.............searching for vcard

What are you exporting from? Vcard isn't as universal as it should be. You could try creating a contact on the phone, then export it - import on your pc and try to find out what is different.

I'm using the import/export feature built into the phone. I chalked it up to having 500 some odd contacts.

So you are trying to export contacts on the phone and re-import them - like the group/ringtone fix - making dupes on phone of the ones in google?
Someone on another forum, found that birthday's with no year caused a problem for google contacts. It could be something like this, but I don't know where to start looking.
Having same issue.
Captivate cannot read vcards it sends to itself through email
I created a new contact on my Captivate, sent namecard for the contact using email, sent the email to myself. After receiving the email on my phone, I clicked Open using Contacts. I then get an error:
Reading of vCard has failed ... I/O error.
WTF ? Crazy !!
I had some trouble trying to put contacts directly into the phone.
So, I just loaded them into the gmail website contacts from the PC.
Since then, no problems, and they stay synced up.
In any standard .vcf file, you should be able to open it with a text editor to eliminate corrupted entries. Just compare files that import to those that don't and you will figure out what is breaking import.

How to backup synced contacts

Is there a way to backup the contacts together their synced facebook ones?
It is impossible with "my backup pro", and they can' te be saved on google servers..
Thanks a lot
Ale
I'm not exactly sure i understand the my backup pro thing, but if you go into contacts, push the menu button, click on more, then export them to SD card, it'll create a VCF file with all your contacts in it, you can save it somewhere or even e-mail it to yourself.
What i always recommend is to import that file into your gmail account (directly from the phone) this way your contacts are synced no matter what happens u'll have them on your gmail account.
Rodi,
Thanks for your reply, i'll try them next time i'll have to change my rom!!
And sorry for my english

Sync contacts to gmail?

Hi
I tried to serch buy didn't find any good info... How do I sync my contacts on my sim to my gmail account? I want to use pics for my contacts witch I can't when they are stored on my sim for some reason :S
Import from sim to phone and click on accounts to sync them to gmail. Open your Gmail from a PC or Mac...add pictures and it will update your contacts with pics. Any editing you do on Gmail contacts will affect your phone contacts.

You could export to sd card and then take the file and import into gmail through a computer if you are unable to convert the contacts on the phone itself to gmail. I dont have experience with contacts on SIM but other contacts you can change from phone to gmail so they get backup and also sync images with gmail.

Yes. First, export all your SIM contacts to SD card. This will create a .VCF file. Once done, on your mobile, select that VCF file and it will give you an option to export to your phone or your GMAIL accounts. Once exported to GMAIL, you can easily edit, add pics etc.

[Q] Export Contacts

I am trying to export my contacts that are stored in the phones memory to a VCF file so that I can import them into a new phone. When I go to the import/export menu in Contacts the only Option it gives me is Send to Namecard. This will create a VCF file but it only contains part of my contact list and not the full list. Did they do away with the options to import and export to SD? Does anyone know of a way to get it to grab all of the contacts?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Contacts

I hope it will be usefull for newbie as me, if you have Gmail account your contacts will follow you without using software connections or cable and wifi connections
You can syncronyze your PC contacts (outlook, LG contacts etc....) with your gmail account (with a little search you find how to) and after no problems of synchronization, your contacts will follow you in every MOD, in every android phone
A guide could be
1) save / export your contacts to a csv file on a PC (or similar);
2) save / export your contacts on your phone to a csv file (just use "exports heading to SD" and is created automatically);
3) Turn off any programs that synchronize with gmail (helps to avoid trouble while working at the end you can reactivate all);
3) Import csv thus obtained on gmail contacts;
4) Place your contacts on gmail (eliminating duplicates using "merge", accommodation name and last name .... you know is a big job) NB contact cards do not have the field name (when Google will place this thing??), I suggest you write the contacts by putting "Name" space "Last Name");
5) Delete all the contacts you have on your PC (should now be on gmail);
6) Reset the terminal Android (so you deleted the directory, but this phone is moved, and will ask to reboot again with gmail account in sync);
7) reactivated all synchronizations;
8) Now you have all your contacts at your fingertips on your computer and your terminal Android (on the latter may take some time, I waited a couple of hours);
9) For owners of Android remember that now you have to use only "google contacts" when you add or change a contact, otherwise it will be added to google contacts (basically disabled "sim contacts" and "phone contacts" if you want a backup copy, to the limit, export of SIM or SD Card).
Obviously this is "my" way to resolve the matter, will not be perfect but it worked for me.
