Porting CM to the Huawei P8 - developers needed!

I was surprised when I found that no custom ROM was available for the P8 given how solid the phone itself is. I decided then to port CM 12 myself. Although I have been programming for years, I have never worked on a custom ROM before or tried to build Android. But I thought it would be a great learning experience in any case. And it has definitely been that.
That said, I have spent that last 2 months reading and playing around with CM and made a lot of progress. But I believe I have hit a rock right now. I have asked around a lot, but feel the response has been rather limited. So I'm asking if there are any developers out there that are willing to help with this project so we can together bring CM to the P8 and ultimately other Huawei devices.
The current status of the project is that it builds and gives you a flashable zip file. I can also build the kernel source from Huawei. It does however not boot. I suspect the issue is in the boot.img, and more specifically the ramdisk. No matter what I try, it always gives me the same result after flashing. It shows the Huawei logo then reboots into the recovery. I have spent so much time on it that I feel it needs a new pair of eyes to look at it. It could be very simple or something more complicated. But I do believe I'm very close to getting it to boot. Here is a good summary too of the issue:

It would be awesome to have CM on P8, but it would be difficult choice between CM and emui because of camera app modes and other features like signal+ , touch plus etc...

I don't think that the rom for the LO9 work on UL10

So no rom for ul00

im waiting for my p8 to arrive, the l09 version. placed an order few days ago.
i was a bit surprised that there are no custom roms or any mods really for this phone on xda as i always check that before oredering one.
however, the price compared to specs and build quality sold itself for me compared to other high end models..
i will be more then happy to get involved in porting CM to p8, i also know some code but never cooked a ROM before however maybe I can help in some way.
I shall send you PM when phone arrives-cheers.

I don't have a ul00 device at hand so L09 will be one getting the port for now. Of course, if I can get a reliable way to test the port on other devices then I will add support for those too as time goes.

I think it will work because my rom has a ul00 Stock Rom as Base. Kernel work too. Only nfc will not work I think.

Thanks to the dev team who made this rom. I think it shouldnt take much time for things to get fixed
For anybody who want to complain about things missing functions.
Wait atleast a week before you start complaining because this is not stable yet and we have to give the dev the time they need and should show respect.

Well nobody has complained yet in this thread and the only off topic post I see is yours ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Faaaantastic good to see this and in such a short amount of time.

This build is pointless, CM14 is unfinished hence lots of bugs. It's better to base first build off pure AOSP what I was going to do, I was gonna work on Nougat for 3 devices but my PC is too slow to compile Nougat and my career is over now, lol.

Nice to see new N rom coming to oneplus 3 hope will be stable soon so i can instal it !

I just started to work on CyanogenMod build for our device ( P9 Plus ) few days ago .
Today I was able to take the first logcat , and also my device succesfuly boot up on CyanogenMod 13.0 .
The work here is in progress ... but, as soon as I'll have a beta version, a new thread will be opened , and I'll post there all what you need in order to run CyanogenMod on Huawei P9 Plus !

Very excited to see some progress on this for the P9 models. I assume the hardware-differences aren't big, so a port to the Normal P9 wouldn't be that though?

I was a bit excited to start building CyanogenMod for P9 Plus ... but right now I'm a little disappointed :crying:
Really don't know if I succeed to build a working new rom for this device ... need a very big long time to check, test, build & hac !
It seems that the work on this device is slightly heavier than I imagined at first ... I have a lot of experience with Huawei devices (is the fifth device Huawei, which I build CyanogenMod) - but this P9 Plus is really annoying, if we refer strictly to the development on this device !
Somehow, I managed to enable ( hack/fix ) HW acceleration , so Mali GPU works like it should ( in the same way like on stock ) on CM-13.0 !
There are a lot of stuff, which currently doesn't work ... but better to see what works :
- encrypted support ! ( without this fix , development is almost impossible... )
- touchscreen
- lights sensors
- internal/external storage
- adb/usb connection
- Wi-Fi
- HW acceleration
The first build will be there as soon as I'll be able to fix Sound and SIM support !
I cannot tell you exactly when will be released the first build , development goes very slowly on this device , but I hope to be ready in a week to maximum four

Today I managed to fix some issues : all sensors enabled, bluetooth along with bluetooth tethering & wifi hotspot !
Bluetooth A2DP seems to works fine ... I can use my Sony DR-BT101 to listen music
Audio, Camera, Fingerprint sensor, SIM Network it seems to be harder to fix ( but not impossible ) - I'll try to fix one by one in the next weeks .

For a nougat rom, the mate s does not meet the technical requirements. I'm working on a miui rom, MM.

Rom doesn't exist. This is one of the usual methods to lure stupid users into advertising, subscription or casinos.

So, I noticed that there is a beta of Lineage OS for the P8, which has almost the same hardware as our Mate S: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p8/development/rom-lineageos-13-0-14-1-t3585290 This is Android 7 and 6, so that means that Android 7 (N) should also work on our Mate S (https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=7533&idPhone1=7006)
I believe porting this beta to Mate S shouldn't be that difficult for a dev with some experience (I'm afraid I have 0 experience and knowledge).
Maybe someone better suited could take a look at this? I can help with whatever I can.

You're wrong about the p8. Search for roms for the Honor 7. These will work on the mate s. I've tested several. But no sim is recognized at all and wifi is not possible. My mate s has a display damaged. That's why I couldn't think of a solution.

Well, if you ever wanna test remotely I'm sure there's a bun hat of us who would risk testing experimental builds
Alternatively people could donate to you so you could buy a mate s or maybe fix yours.
If you could build pure aosp I would gladly donate to see that happen.

No one knows the mate's as well as I do. Developed the first rooting, supersu tuned to it, built an extra kernel and make some emui custom roms. Some good developers have tried a porting. Not yet possible.

so yes as the title says me and some of my friends from telegram are working on a nougat rom for this device i cant tell you when its going to be finished and what is working or not camera will not work at least for now. after 2 years of not touching this device i thought hmm meaby i should try and help out the comunity and yeah thats it lets work now.. :angel:

camera on lollipop got fixed but kernel stuff got broken il release a full working version in a mounth or 2 cant promisse anything
but i can garante to you that im not going to give up from this device and im in problems with nougat... but on nougat camera will not be possible to get it working

i have to say that you are 100% right about what you are saying right now.
This guy -lgl90- are the actual latest person who is trying to build a rom for this device for now.
so yeah do not report him just because he is working slowly, he at least trying to do something.
