I was surprised when I found that no custom ROM was available for the P8 given how solid the phone itself is. I decided then to port CM 12 myself. Although I have been programming for years, I have never worked on a custom ROM before or tried to build Android. But I thought it would be a great learning experience in any case. And it has definitely been that.
That said, I have spent that last 2 months reading and playing around with CM and made a lot of progress. But I believe I have hit a rock right now. I have asked around a lot, but feel the response has been rather limited. So I'm asking if there are any developers out there that are willing to help with this project so we can together bring CM to the P8 and ultimately other Huawei devices.
The current status of the project is that it builds and gives you a flashable zip file. I can also build the kernel source from Huawei. It does however not boot. I suspect the issue is in the boot.img, and more specifically the ramdisk. No matter what I try, it always gives me the same result after flashing. It shows the Huawei logo then reboots into the recovery. I have spent so much time on it that I feel it needs a new pair of eyes to look at it. It could be very simple or something more complicated. But I do believe I'm very close to getting it to boot. Here is a good summary too of the issue:

im waiting for my p8 to arrive, the l09 version. placed an order few days ago.
i was a bit surprised that there are no custom roms or any mods really for this phone on xda as i always check that before oredering one.
however, the price compared to specs and build quality sold itself for me compared to other high end models..
i will be more then happy to get involved in porting CM to p8, i also know some code but never cooked a ROM before however maybe I can help in some way.

I don't have a ul00 device at hand so L09 will be one getting the port for now. Of course, if I can get a reliable way to test the port on other devices then I will add support for those too as time goes.
I think it will work because my rom has a ul00 Stock Rom as Base. Kernel work too. Only nfc will not work I think.

Ok per the initial registration video i looked and searched if there was a similar topic for this and found none for this device. Now what i would like to ask for is for the Gears of War Theme that was made for the Epic 4G to be ported to the Thunderbolt... Here is a link to the post with the download link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137545 ... Now i do not know if this is an extensive port or if i will be able to just download and flash the existing to my device but currently i am just rooted, i had tinkered with the Cyanogen Mod 7 but i didn't fully feel the love on it yet so if someone will let me know what i need to do to be able to run this flawlessly after its ported as well i will be in full appreciation and forever thanks to the dev that can come up with this for me and all other Gears fans. What rom are you running?
As of current i am running CL3ANTH3ORY V1.0. Have also tried the CM7. i'm up for switching to any rom that will allow me to run this faster. my about phone shows that Android Version 2.3.4, HTC Sense Version 2.1, and i have the 2.5 Radio since i am currently running GB roms. but i will gladly downgrade to have this on my device.

This is actually beginner stuff... I wish I were a god. I built it on the rom you said you were using (CL3ANTH3ORY V1.0). This should be flashed via recovery. I am not able to figure out at current time how to get the BG to flash so you'll have to set that yourself. I will try to get the update up within the hour. Happy Flashing

Ok I uploaded this, It's pretty incomplete and exists ONLY for people who are curious; this cannot be used as a daily driver; a lot hasn't been translated and the UI is totally mangled because of resolution differences.
This is only for people who are curious about the general direction MIUI is going in, it will not be pleasant or beautiful; minds will not be blown using this firmware a lot of work has to happen still

Yes, I'm currently resizing the entire UI though so maybe a few days I'll push a more complete build; the fact that this is here bodes well though because msm8960 is my phone I intend to use this for myself too

Basically I don't take money for developing because I do it for me, in the spirit of that I've decided to direct all my attention onto the only device I own since doing work for other devices really does not benefit me
I would like to do work on S5 TouchWiz, Sense 6. I want to work on interesting firmware that is challenging and this has almost become an art project at this point since at a code level everything mostly works. I have to admit I wasn't really prepared for that.
So pretty much if you folks have seen any firmware of interest let me know in PM and I will try to bring it to the MSM8960 tree
In regards to this I really can't give an ETA, I'd frankly rather just work on something else

any rom that uses the MIUI theme manager would be a rom worth looking at....all other theme managers are crap compared to MIUI.....

First, I want to thank you again to all those who have contributed for my P7 device ! ( Huawei Ascend P7 Donors )
I started working to CyanogenMod 11 few days before, ( I started Saturday ) and today was the first day that the device was opened successfully into CyanogenMod .
Because is the first early build, at this time almost all important functions are not operable ... this is normal for the first build.
I will continue to work in this project in my spare time , but will be a long way until we will get a fully functional rom .
I'll keep you posted here with my progress - please do not ask what is working and what not or when will be released !
As soon as CM11 for Huawei Ascend P7 will be ready for beta testers , the new Thread will be created into Ascend P7 Original Android Development .
Besides the two questions mentioned above, you are welcome to ask/post what you think regarding the new project - CM11 for Huawei ascend P7 .

Faaaantastic good to see this and in such a short amount of time.
This build is pointless, CM14 is unfinished hence lots of bugs. It's better to base first build off pure AOSP what I was going to do, I was gonna work on Nougat for 3 devices but my PC is too slow to compile Nougat and my career is over now, lol.
Nice to see new N rom coming to oneplus 3 hope will be stable soon so i can instal it !

This is not a problem of the rom, but of the device in general... Same way it affects the S2 roms too. For Magisk to work, I believe we have to have a specially compiled Boot.img file. Which thus far, no has done or is probably not possible on our devices, otherwise I believe it would of been done by now. It's unfortunate, but sadly just the way it is...

This is not a problem of the rom, but of the device in general... Same way it affects the S2 roms too. For Magisk to work, I believe we have to have a specially compiled Boot.img file. Which thus far, no has done or is probably not possible on our devices, otherwise I believe it would of been done by now. It's unfortunate, but sadly just the way it is...

Thank you for this great rom, and your efforts in compiling other distro roms (such as Resurrection) giving life in this old dog yet.... Even though I liked the post originally in May, completely forgot it existed and is nice to see ACIP rom for our device...

Thank you for the reply. Guess it's time to start saving up for an upgrade. Maybe Oneplus 6? Or Nokia if they are developer friendly?
