HI everyone
I'm using Xperia Z C6603 with rooted stock android 4.4.4 ( 10.5.1.A.0.283 )
so i was copying a file ( mp3 , jpeg ) from my Windows PC with WinSCP to my device External SD Card viaSSHDroid ( SSH Protocol )
then i was noticing , the file that i recently copied to my phone is not automatically scanned in Album nor Walkman app
but i'm pretty sure the file was there , i open up the root explorer ( file manager ) and navigate through the files / folder , and files was there , it can be opened too by walkman or album app via root explorer , trying to force close the album and walkman and try reopening the app still no luck
now the question is , is there a way / terminal command to rebuild / rescan media files that newly added to my device without rebooting it first or without installing additional app ?
Thanks
Regards ,
L

Hi
Open settings and go to apps then navigate to the ALL tap and find Media Storage and clear it's data. Reboot. And wait few minutes. But don't panic if you didn't saw all your media (songs pics) in album and Walkman. Just wait.

Is it too hard to reboot and wait? Lol...
This is the only way worked for me. The apps didn't changed anything.

That's the problem i've told before on my first post , i think rebooting the device just for refreshing my music / picture library is so annoying yet wasting time , i'm just too lazy to do it even my old symbian can do this without rebooting , hahaha
so i've figured out the culprit ( maybe ) is somewhat named android media scanner , but still i need some help to run / trigger this process to run automatically by it's own , since i'm not too familiar with android API's , so far i just know basic & simple linux command , administration & programming for everyday's computing , heheh
i don't know if this just me or what on KK , but on JB , the media scanner runs automatically if i'm not wrong

@androidfreak70
Well this is not true for my Moto G 4G/LTE (xt1039, peregrine) with stock Lollipop 5.1. I have to clear data from media storage and reboot each time I add media, either on the phone itself or external sd card.

hi,
I'm trying to install gingerbread or the best version on my firmware 2.1 Xperia X8 but I am stuck :
I cant get Xrecovery installed on my X8 as I cannot locate the the folder SDCARD. When I connect my Xperia X8 to my computer a load of folders appear but they are not SDCARD or root etc How do I copy files over to this directory if I cannot locate the correct folders ?
I got a free version of Root folder on my X8 and can see the right folders on my phone there but have been unable to get to them on the PC and thus copy the necessary files over. Any ideas ? Its quite frustrating !
I think I have 2 steps left, copy Xrecovery over and then copy the latest Android over and I should have a better phone.
You should just use FlashTool to root your phone..
I prefer FlashTool because with it you can root, unlock bootloader and flash kernels all-in-one..

well i got the phone rooted. It says so when I run it again and the Super User is installed. So too is busybox. I don't know what Flashtool can do that isnt already done.
However I cannot get to SDCARD folder from my PC ! Some examples on the web just show files being dragged and dropped but I don't have the folders listed.
CtrlAltDelIrl is not really reading your post.
First, you don't have to locate the folder SDCARD. What you see in your computer is the SD card. Later when browsing from your phone and you see the folder SDCARD, what you're actually seeing is a link from within the internal memory of your phone to your card.
Second, just use x8toolbox to install X Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117100. While you're at it, install also CWM Recovery since all of the recent ROMs need it to be properly installed.

Great, Yes I am stuck at finding the correct folder on my phone. If I can't get access to it via PC I cannot copy files over.
I don't know what X Recovery is or much about x8toolbox . I downloaded a lot of files and they don't do a whole lot. I was looking for a straightforward solution
I
There is no sdcard folder.....the first page with lots of folders that appear when u open u r memomry card on pc is sdcard or root....
Xrecovery is a custom recovery used to flash roms......

Thanks very much for the response. Yes it helps. I just see a list of Xperia X8 folders on my PC which don't do what I need.
I can't figure out what I need to do in order to get to the SDCARD or ROOT folder ? The only thing that is similar is hidden system folders in Windows but its so easy just to view hidden folders. I am thinking I have to do something similar to get at my Xperia X8 SDCARD and ROOT folders.
Xrecovery sounds like its the right application to get installed for me. If I got it installed I could put on a new Android operating system. However I first need to get at the correct folders in order to copy XRecovery over.
Any one have any ideas ?
Copy the three xrecovery files.....to u r memory card.....access to memory card using root explorer and copy the xrecovery files and paste it in
phone memory/system/bin

dude it worked !! Thanks so much, I was looking at that till midnight last night
I got XRecovery up on my Xperia X8 and doing the next steps now.
Thanks again !
i got ginger dx copied over to the sdcard and launched it. It looks like it froze mid way through the boot up with nothing happening from a graphical point of view (it started with lots of stars moving around).
I tried doing a restore but it says nothing was found. What should I do it with ?
trying to mount the sdcard from the phone results in "Unable ot open ums lunfile"
Is there some way I can restore the phone and try coping over the GingerDX v28b again without losing all data
i had to delete all my data but got GingerDX to work. It feels a lot better than the 2.1 Android on the phone
if you think gingerbread is nice, try ics it's......wow

that's what i've provided
for unlocking bootloader i would recommend flashtool, cause you can't do pretty much wrong and it's easy
(but don't forget to be below 11w29 )
I would like to try ICS but I don't know where I can get it. Some steps outlining where to put etc would be a help. I like gingerbread, its easier to type and the phone seems to work quicker. Although there are a few things :
Using the phone now I can't get into my Wallpapers saved on my SDCARD. It has to exit from pictures and puts up an message that an error occurred and try resetting the SDCARD. How can I do this and does it wipe anything ?
My contacts from my phone chip don't seem to be appearing either, maybe it wiped them or maybe there is some error. Any ideas ?
When using the camera I get the following error :
xperia x8 gingerbread the application camera (process com.android.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again

bout 'resetting the sdcard' i think that the phone wants you to format the sdcard, but i've got no idea why... never had that problem...
your contacts were stored in your data-partition, so your full-wipe deleted them, your only chance is that you sync'ed them with the google-servers
and about your camera, i've got no idea never had any problems with it
which version of gingerdx did you flash? (i've had gingerdx a pretty long time too )
---------- Post added at 02:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 PM ----------
sorry, just saw that you said v28b
give v25 a try, i like it much more than v28b
i also think that it has a slightly better performance
I am only using Ginger bx a day or so.
I do have contacts left but I can do anything about what it deleted. I use google+ but I don't think it backed anything up.
The thing is that the camera doesn't work either does the picture viewer. To get the background picture changed I had to use Astro. GalleryDx would stay open
as i said, give v25 a try, for me it worked better than v28b
gallerydx is a bit buggy (scrolling aso), you could try a gallery from market or from another rom (or earlier release)
is that an older version ? have you an url where i can download it and follow some steps
I downloaded other apps and they view my pictures ok (my pictures were saved but my numbers werent?) but the GalleryDx app that came with Ginger bx just doesn't work
yes, it's an older version (just better )
and your pics are still there 'cause they were stored on your scdard
http://code.google.com/p/gingerdx/downloads/list thats the link to all gingerdx versions, just download v25
BUT you don't need to do a full-wipe, just install the zip via cwm and your done :good:
if you want to you can wipe cache but its not needed
So, this is my first post, I've been reading the forums for a long time and today I wanted to answer to a thread in Dev, but as I never posted before, I cant.
So, I have a Xperia V and its now rooted, Firmware build number is 9.1.A.0.490, locked but unlockable bootloader, if anyone want to know.
This is a answer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186821
I downloaded both the EasyRootingToolkit_XPERIA-Z posted by DooMLoRD and the Root_with_Restore_v21 by bin4ry to see what they did.
After running a diff on the files from the two "packages" I can see that its basicly the same thing exept that bin4ry have a typo in step3.sh where he is trying to remove a folder "/system/bin/rmdir /data/usf" This will give an error, not to worry, the "original" posted by DooMLoRD does not contain the line at all. Bin4ry's version does also forget to tell you that in order to find "Service tests->Display" you have to call *#*#7378423#*#*
So how to root from linux?
Basicly open the runme.bat from any of the two packages and eather change the path for adb from folder\adb.exe to folder/adb, make adb executable chmod+x folder/adb and run the script. (You might need to remove some other BASIC specific code in the bat and change it to sh compatible script)
Or, you can, like me, manually run the commands after reading all the files (*.bat,*.sh,etc) to see what hapens to the phone.
Also apps like trackId and so on works as they should after rooting.
I hope this can help someone and try at your own risk.
Can you send a PM to Bin4ry to let him know what you have found out in his script.
Excelllent first post by the way!
AW: Rooting Xperia V from Linux
Hey.
Thanks for informing me BUT the rmdir of data/usf is intended! Wh Do you think it shouls not be there? For xperia Z you need to remove it in order to get NFC working again

Oh. Okey, but on the V, at least, the folder contains an other folder so the command fails because you first remove all the files in that folder and than try to remove the folder itself, this gives us 'directory not empty'. If it's not the same on Z, don't bother, but otherwise just remove the dir and files with 'rm -rf dir/to/remove'

Hi ,
I got an Xperia T recently and installed in some games and apps' but when i plugged in my phone in the computer to store those games on my
pc from : Android\data ; like i did when i had my Galaxy S2 , i couldn't find the folder i was looking for in : Android\data BUT i could see the
folder i was looking for in my phone using Astro ( File manager ) and i also noticed that the OBB folder was missing (Android\obb ) and the
same for this folder i could see him with Astro ; i tried using MyPhoneExplorer but he couldn't detect my device ( i downloaded android SDK
manager then installed google usb drivers and i activated Debugging in my Xperia )
So i searched for another solution and i thought that maybe i had to Root my Xperia T ( When i had my GS2 it was rooted and i had access to
those folders ) and i found that link for a pre-rooted ROM i think? : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40179524&postcount=60
And finally here's my request :
Is there a solution other than Root ( if the rooting can allow me to access to the folders ) my phone to see the folders mentionned before ?
I'm on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Build 9.1.A.0.489
Thank you !
yes you have to root, thats the purpose of rooting
You do not need to flash a pre rooted rom, just root you own rom by reading the instructions in the all in one thread (Its the first thread in the Q&A section)
Thank you very much

ok, if not you can also temporarily use another launcher you'll get in the play store. Just to have any launcher. if you can't get into play store try it with your computer?! or try to repair with sus if that goes right
try to make an rom/zip of the apk to flash to the system via cwm (i'm not fimiliar with making those files, but there must be an description)
To get the zip connect the phone to your pc and move it to your internal storage or sd card and get into recovery

Well thanks for your effort, but i think i will be using the SUS recover method.
Download the deodex ROM from alinov (not sure how to type the name :silly: )
Take from /system/app the HOME.APK
Put the Xperia Home app in the adb folder and type:
Adb shell
Su (root it needed here)
push home.apk /system/app
shell chmod 644 /system/app/home.apk
reboot
did it function?
