[Q] Where are the Nexus 6 unboxing/reviews? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys anyone find it strange that there have been about 3 short hands on videos on the N6 but no real talk about it and no official unboxing or reviews. Just my though but i'm new to the nexus line so not sure how they send out review units but would love to see a unboxing and review especially since it should be out in a few weeks. what are your thoughts.

Yeah its weird preordering a phone we have barely seen, but I saw on Twitter someone from Android Police said his Nexus 6 review unit was on its way yesterday

The NDA hasn't lifted yet, several sites have gotten a test unit. They've had it for a week now.

How do you know?

There are a couple ways this can go.
1. Reviews come out in a big wave today at 10am CT for everyone to read before preorders at noon eastern time.
2. Like Apple, reviews come out next Tues/Wednesday with delivery date later that week.

With the amount of people that have had hands on but are being very vague about details there is almost certainly a NDA involved. My guess is once the pre-order starts that we will see some more details from the reviewers. I would almost bet Google gave them handsets to review (or keep) before leaving Google HQ.

yea definitely.

I think it was the Engadget hands on video said they weren't able to show most of the Google apps, like camera, due to a NDA.

I would think we could start seeing some today. Or later this week. And now reviewers have had time to thoroughly test battery results and performance. Can't wait to see what google has for us.

Still no reviews. Play store still screwed up. This is the worst launch ever, and considering its a Nexus, that's saying something.

Did Play crash? Did it spit errors?
No?
Then shutup with the BS about "worst", already. 90% of us didn't get a preorder in, and labeling something "worst" when it clearly isn't by any standard is just stupid.

Official 'Book Cover' for the UK?

Hi, my Nexus 10 32GB arrived today - I was out, so it'll be delivered tomorrow - and I see that online people are talking about the 'book cover' which clips onto the back being announced officially. I can see nothing on the Google Play store in the UK and I wondered whether anyone had any information as to where I might get one?
Many thanks, in advance...
Damn your's arrived today and you're from the UK? What time did you order? Ordered mine at 8:39am and nothing has arrived yet....
With regards to the book cover nothing has been official announced yet. Rumor is that is wasn't available for mass shipping on launch day.

Yes, I got lucky and ordered it at around 0830 yesterday. Clicked 'buy' a half-dozen times and it kept going wrong, so I was a bit stressed that I'd end up with loads! Even then, it hung on the confirmation screen, so I wasn't sure I had it until I got the email at around half-ten.
Then I blew it by being out this morning and missing delivery! :silly:
Any rumour as to when the cover will be launched - and will it only be available from the Play Store?
Wow, that was quick. I also ordered mine at about 8:44am yesterday and mine's still pending in Google Wallet.

There is a rumour that they shelved the original design because of bad reviews and its currently being re-designed so it can be used as a stand etc, But nothing official as yet.
Yikes lucky guy, I ordered half an hour before you almost and still pending. Clearly there was no first come first serve sort of thing. They told me to expect it early next week when I called

I don't really want to use it as a stand or anything, the pretty red one I saw in a google video is perfect for what I want. Maybe if they are no longer going to sell these they could donate one to me
You would think one of the third-party vendors would be taking advantage of that ability to attach to the rear of the Nexus 10, but everything I see required you to push it into a pocket that boarders the screen.

Smart Dock Shenanigans

***EDIT***
THE SMART DOCK IS NOW SHIPPING FROM VERIZON. I got my tracking number a few minutes ago.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I've been on the phone and in live chat with Samsung 3 separate times over the last 2 weeks, trying to get an answer about when the Smart Dock is going to be in stock. As we all know, it is listed as 'back ordered' on their website right now. Nobody can give me an answer, which is frustrating. What I am hoping is that they aren't going to hold out releasing until the 50% off coupon expires, which they very well could do. The fact that they can't be found anywhere (not even eBay) tells me that the only ones that are in the wild are review units, and that they have not even officially 'released' anything yet.
Anyone have any information to share on the subject of the Smart Dock?

I saw one at a Sprint store but no discount. I am in the same boat as you, waiting for Samsung.
Wondering if it's vaporware, myself.
Would believe it was seen at a sprint store if I saw a photo of it for sale.
It's not unusual for mfrs to create buzz for products and never release them, and cell phone accessories are among the most notoriously over-hyped and never-delivered. I don't even care about a discount - $100 isn't crazy for an HDMI-out and 3 USB ports all in one compact unit. Granted I'd love it at $50 but just think what Motorola would charge for this device and you'll feel better.

Well, I ordered a couple of hours ago from Verizon, and my status already says 'shipped', although they have not provided a tracking number yet. So if you are looking for a Smart Dock and are willing to pay full price, it appears that Verizon is the place to go!
Since one issue I've seen identified with this is that you need to install an app to force the phone into landscape to take advantage of a HDTV display, I wonder if you could stick a TecTile to the back of the dock and set it to force landscape.
Thanks for the tip - if it's really available from VZW that's temping, though I've got an Amazon credit just sitting there. Keep us posted.
Does anybody know when the dock will be released in the UK? Seems to be no word on the web.

Someone from Google Finally gives an apology

Dear all
I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue. Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce and erratic, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process.
For those that originally received a 3-5 days shipping estimate, your orders are now in process for fulfillment. You can expect an email notification early this week which will include tracking information. Although you will be initially charged in full, you will receive a credit for the shipping charge soon after.
For others that received pre-Christmas shipping estimates, we anticipate processing your orders for fulfillment this week.
I realise that the people who ordered the Nexus 4 so early are among our most committed and loyal users and we are doing all we can to put things right.
Sorry again.
Dan

What mess? I, like the majority of people were quoted ships in 1-2 weeks, and it was delivered to be within the 2 weeks.
Some people are just a bunch of whining drama queens.
If you want to look at a product launch that REALLY failed, you only have to look at the Xbox360, 60% failure rate after 3 years on the market..... Thats a REAL botched product launch...

granted, some people are drama queens, but there are many people who still haven't received their order from Nov 13, and don't forget all the backordered folks from the initial release. Still there's some 1-2 weekers who have not received shipping emails. There's also the issue of ppl not receiving their devices in proportion to their order time. Furthermore, he's also apologizing about their lack of communication, which was another issue.
Also, providing an example of a greater failure doesn't justify this one haha.

Google originally quoted 3-5 day shipping to those of us who ordered on Nov 13. Then we got a backorder email the next day that changed the estimate to 3 weeks. I got my phone yesterday. That's right, a day shy of 5 weeks. Some Nov 13 orders have yet to be filled. They have NOT been filling the orders in the order that they were made, nor have they kept up with demand. This has been a shameful fiasco. Why do you think the shippong and orders thread has almost 40,000 posts?

WHAT???!!! AN APOLOGY FOR LATE SHIPPING???!!! WHO CARES! FK HIM AND HIS APOLOGY!!!!
Where's an apology for USB/OTG and all the hardware issues??? Who needs an apology, recall this phone and start over again. They need to be hit where it hurts, in the wallet. Apologies don't hurt them financially. Fk that.
A lot of people got backordered, and even at this moment, the phone is completely sold out. There aren't really people being drama queens factoring in that the Google website is pretty much the only place to get the phone (unless you want to pay 200 dollars more), and when other products are sold out, there are lots of other places that might be supplied. LG came in with a really small supply of Nexus 4's, and it's hurt us in the end. Then again, I think the problem is also that, even now, I don't think they're that incredibly concerned since they're not looking to profit off the phone majorly as they are just trying to introduce the phone into the market as a stepping stone for other companies. If they don't sell some large number like 2 million phones, they are more than happy and I don't think that's what their intentions were in the first place. Unfortunately, this ends up hurting a lot of people who actually want the phone, or who have it and want accessories and such.

I wonder if/when google will bring the nexus line to motorola if we'll see an actual big player rise in the smartphone world. I imagine if google put in an actual real solitary effort into the nexus line (instead of these half assed cooperative efforts) and advertised its product well, we would see a legitimate competitor in the smartphone market. There is some money to be made with the rise of android in the past year. I hope google will consider augmenting its objectives for the nexus line in the near future.

The only mistake Google made with this phone was selling it so cheap so millions of people wanted to buy it instead of getting it.on contract like normal phone.
The only mistake???
Pfft.
Old news ...we have enough news Google screwed up in every aspect of selling the N4, from the launch time announcement to the ordering to the shipping to the communication to the rma's.
you name and it they screwed up big time everywhere they were involved in.
I find it hard to believe how cynical everyone is. I had a few issues as well with Google, but I called and talked through it all. I know some of the customer service representatives are a little clueless, but those who have't got their device yet, probably could have done something about it. Also, Google is new to this game, you can't expect everything to be perfect their first try.
And yes I know they've sold devices before, I have purchased almost all of them, but I don't believe they have ever had such a high demand.
Just relax and enjoy the holidays.

Yes, because it would have been sooo much better if they sold it for £500+, just like the iPaidTooMuchForThisPhone.
When you stay awake to be first to order a phone that takes 2 weeks more than it should and there is still no bumper for sale, that is failure. If i wanted to pre order i would have in September.
I do not see LG getting another Nexus after this.

The preorders would run out as fast as orders, so you still won't be happy. Preorders don't magically speed up production.
No company on this earth has an infinite supply chain flexibility. Or they are grossly mismanaged. I don't see how it is a failure.

Dunno, I suppose LG probably won't even bid for another nexus. And the next OEM will be Compal, ZTE, Huawei or something.
Or even Motorola, like "dear OEMs, if you don't elect supplying us with a new platform, Motorola will. This is not a threat, we repeat, this is not a threat!"

Did carriers get first crack at the Nexus 6 stock?

The last I checked the poll of who got to order their Nexus 6, it was at 36 people. There's no way that Google only had less than 200 available. Is it possible that Google allowed the carriers first crack at the Nexus 6 stock and sold the remaining devices to the public?
This would explain the pitiful amount that was made available as well as the 3-4 week ship time when T-Mobile has already indicated they will have them in stores on the 12th.
Just a thought.

Why not?
Could be simple low yields due to Q/C, could be due to delayed container arrival from China...could also be the classic tactic every retailer in the USA pulls on Black Friday every single...having less than 12 of any listed item in store for purchase.
Could also be intentional.
Google killing their own sales figures by gifting stock at less than MSRP to carriers seems unlikely. Megacorps only see $$$ signs, that is where the most likely explanation lies.

My preferred explanation is stock price manipulation by leveraging PR from a quick sellout.
Companies make more money gambling with stocks and arcane financial instruments than off customers.
I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened though. They did confirm that they only had a "limited number" available for pre-order. And when you take the facts into account it makes sense.
1- First Nexus to be available on all major carriers
2- First (recent) Nexus to have a premium price tag
3- The only nexus to be the same price within the play store as outside the play store.
Maybe Google is going away from subsidizing it themselves and wanting you to get it subsidized through the carriers.

Google never subsidized. They cut corners. The N5 was a seriously trimmed LG G2, which easily explained the price difference between the two... just like how the Nexus 6 is basically a Note 4 in Moto clothing. Nexus 5 was a budget-friendly quite nice phone, while the Nexus 6 is a flagship phone at not QUITE a flagship price.

But for Google, they'll probably make the same or even more money per unit as say Samsung with the Note 4 since Google doesn't spend much money on R&D and almost nothing on marketing. The Nexus line has always been "marketed" by the users and designed off another flagship and the N6 is another testament.

As of a few hours ago, I have yet to find a decent unboxing video. I've seen a couple that were like 2 minutes long and just showed the contents of the box and gave the phone specs. We already know what comes in the box and we've known the specs for the past 2 months. I'd like to see a 10 minute long video unboxing the phone, powering up, close ups to see how the phone looks in the real world etc. By the way, what's up with people advertising Nexus 6 unboxing videos when they are just photos of the phone? I'm just annoyed because I wasn't one of the lucky few that successfully pre-ordered a 32gb Midnight Blue Nexus 6. Damn it!

Damn it!

Midnight Black OnePlus 5 with 8GB RAM is now ready for immediate dispatch

The Midnight Black OnePlus 5 will be shipped out immediately after you've ordered it.
OnePlus announced at the start of the year that one of its resolutions for 2017 was to tackle shipping delays by making its products available for immediate dispatch, which sees the company shipping a phone mere hours after you've placed the order.
Just got one today
I don't mean to be rude, but this isnt really a forum contribution since every oneplus owner got this email.

This is good information for non Oneplus owners though. First time OnePlus prospective purchasers may not have signed up for an account yet.
Sounds like they are having a hard time moving units after jello effect so they are sending emails to people trying to get them to buy. If anyone wants to buy one they can see on the site themselves that they are available if they had interest to buy one.

Well if you come to xda and have interest in buying one I'm sure you would put in an order already or be checking the website to see when it becomes available immediately. If you wanted one it makes 0 sense to wait for one to be available immediately on the site to buy though.
