[Q] Moto X 2014 and Xposed Framework - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking about getting a Moto X 2014 right now but wanted to check if anyone has been able to get Xposed Framework up and running on it. Is this possible? Please let me know and please tell me if this question is posted in the right spot! Thanks!

Yes, get a pure edition though. Unlock the boot loader following the guides posted, root and you can have xposed and every other root app running

Xposed works great. I can't live without my GravityBox!
Like the previous poster suggested, get the Pure Edition- zero bloatware and unlockable bootloader. The first thing I did when I got mine was unlock the bootloader and root. Took all of 5 minutes to do.
And yes, you posted in the correct place

Is it possible to get the Pure edition from AT&T - at this point in time I'm way too broke to do anything without getting an upgrade otherwise I'd just be waiting and getting a Nex6 off GPlay as I'm currently using a Nex5. Thanks for the quick feedback also!

The only way to order the pure edition is through Motomaker.
Motorola offers 6, 12, or 18 month no-interest financing if that's what you're worried about.

I bought the AT&T version 14 days ago, on the 24 month installment plan. About $21.50/month, no interest, for 24 months.
I then realized that I wanted the pure edition so that I could root. (My S4 had just died and I needed a phone right away, so I didn't research/wasn't thinking.)
So I went to the Motorola site and bought a pure edition--no wood, so $20 cheaper--otherwise, exactly the same phone (color, etc.) for the same price. Clicked "Finance," chose 12 months, got immediate approval (just by clicking), and got the phone yesterday. 6 days from clicking "Submit" to the phone showing up at my house. (I returned the AT&T version to the AT&T store today, and they were great--in and out in 30 minutes.)
So you could get the pure--financing over 18 instead of 24 months will cost you about one Venti Frappucino per month (hit only to cash flow--because in the end, you're paying the same).
I'm now paying about $41.50/month for 12 months (again, no interest). Had I chosen to finance for 18 months, it would be around $28/month.

Potential Moto X Buyer

So I'm a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) user and looking to get a new phone. I'm looking at getting a Moto X and I have a few questions about it. Mainly in regards to rooting and getting cyanogenmod up and running on it. I don't mind using its stock rom as it seems rather close to stock android, but I'm curious as to how hard is it to root a Moto X on Verizon and getting cyanogenmod on it and keep the special features like the shake to unlock the camera and the voice commands. Also how is the battery on the device (I normally stick to 3G and maybe web surf a bit and look at my RSS feeds through the day not a lot of really data intense apps.) Thanks.
I just got my Moto X a few days ago and found that I enjoyed the experience so much on it that I decided not to root. I have been rooting my phones for a few years and finally found a stock experience that I enjoy.
I don't see a reason why you would want to lose the amazing features that Moto X offers by switching to CM.
You can root the phone (there are guides around the forums for this) and add Xposed modules to modify some parts of the phone, however, any OTA updates will cause some headaches. With 4.4 around the corner for the Moto X I am going to hold off rooting for a while and enjoy what Motorola gave to us.

I'm also a long time rooter/CM kinda guy, galaxy nexus, GS3 etc etc, and I can honestly say that the only reason I would root this thing would be to change the battery icon (aaagh I hate it so much)
But this phone is so so good out of the box, it's just not worth wasting effort trying...although it would be nice to drop a new kernel on it.
Best phone I've had so far.

I will eventually root this thing... someday. I would also like a new kernel and I want to have Greenify back and some small customization options, but for now I am going to enjoy not troubleshooting some sort of issue that comes as a side effect of rooting.
I I just switched to the Moto X from the gnex on Sprint. I am very happy with my decision. The battery life is an enormous improvement over the gnex. I have always rooted my devices and installed custom roms, but I am yet to do so on the Moto X. It has a great stock set up. I will likely root once 4.4 is avaliable, but only to get rid of the sprint crap.

That's great to hear about the battery and stock ROM. Has anyone used the Motomaker site yet (Mainly this goes out to AT&T owners). I'd like to get mine through that when it opens up for most carriers on the 11th. But I'm curious exactly how does the process goes with activation and such. And I just noticed Verizon only offers the 16gig model is there anyway to get a 32gig model with big red.

Moto Maker allows an option for 32gb, so you could wait for that on Verizon, or the Developer Edition is 32gb but you have to pay $549 for it.

We're hoping when Verizon gets Moto maker access 32gb will be an option. Right now you can get a 32gb developer version but you'll have to pay full price, ($550) and is only available in a weird white /black combo.

Moto maker is a breeze... You do everything through the website, new line, upgrade or off contact. Much easier than I had anticipated.

Came from a galaxy "nexus" to the X and love it. I finally did root it and have played with Xposed a bit, and I will probably never flash a rom again. Xposed let's me change all of the things that I cared about on AOKP like having a torch toggle in QS, and statusbar/navbar transparency. To be honest, if I didn't want to enable native tether privileges (still unlimited here), I wouldn't be rooted.

I LOVE HTC but I had the one for five weeks and at least 1 out of 4 calls were dropped randomly or my cheek would hang up the call. I loved the look of the one and thought sense 5 was the best sense yet. However due to the dropped calls the phone just did not work for me.
I have talked to others that returned the phone for the same reason
I wouldn't use the HTC one either. The sense UI is rather sluggish (I've used in the past before - HTC incredible and I've used the demo of the HTC one they had the verizon store and it was the same slowness), Not at all a fan of beats by dre/monster cables. And the button layout is kinda eh. Used to having 4 icons at the bottom with the main menu button being near the center.

Question for the group... Will rooting alone allow you to install CM? Is CM available to be flashed via safestrap?
I ask because -> http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...cyanogenmod-10-2-experimental-nightly-builds/ and -> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Xt1060_Info seem to indicate its for Unlocked bootloader or Developer Edition. And since there is no way yet to unlock the non-Dev Edition's boot loader, it further appears its really for Dev Ed only. And all the roms that aren't a leak from Moto in the Developer sections here also state you need a Developer Edition X or Unlocked boot loader.
Vergil117, as far as rooting, JCASE has released ways to root the initial shipping rom version, and the OTA update for the camera fix. So that is easy enough. I have rooted mine, just to tether (I still have unlimited). As with other devices, if you don't have an unlocked boot loader, rooting after new ROM updates are pushed is uncertain.
Like most have posted, I think the X in its stock form is very nice, and I don't find a need to flash a alternate ROM. If you flash to CM, you'll loose the Moto customization like touch-less control, shake for camera, etc.
So I ordered a moto X through the Motomaker software on monday night. It still says est delivery by the 15 but it also says it hasn't shipped. Kinda worried.

Same, I got to step 2 on Tuesday morning and that's been it so far. I'm hopeful we'll get our shipping notifications soon so we can get our phones before the weekend. But I know Moto probably got slammed with a bunch of orders on Monday so some of us may have to wait till next week...
Update to the shipping post. I got the fedex info and it should be here Friday yay.
Motorola's update system is way behind. When I ordered mine, over a month ago, It didn't say shipped until the morning it arrived and I didn't get a tracking number until an hour or so after I had already received the device.
But it arrived the day they said it would... I'd rather the info be late instead of the phone
Moto X rocking 4.4
Oh I know the feeling, Fedex was being lazy yesterday with my order. I live in a gated apartment building, the main lobby is like right next to the door to the building. I honestly think they saw the door and said oh no one here and went away. So I had to call them and tell them to drop it off at a fedex store.

[Q] What Moto X version to get

So I'm having a bit of a conundrum. My current RAZR M is very nice, but is facing a few problems (I won't go into detail). After a lot of research, I've decided the Moto X will most likely be my next phone. Some additional motivation is I have a $50 coupon off a new Moto X and tomorrow starts Motorola's Moto X Valentine's Day sale. It seems like a good time to pick one up.
My question is should I get the Dev version with the black front with white backing, to which I'm not a huge fan of or get a MotoMaker version and design one that I like? Like most here, once I get my hands on the device, I'm going to want to root it and start tweaking everything to my liking. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There have been lots of threads on this. Searching is good.
The cheapest, most customizable and most tweakable is the T-Mobile version. this comes already carrier unlocked, and you can unlock its bootloader easily.

I'm assuming you're a VZW customer, and planning to stay as one... So don't get the Tmobile version.
What means more to you, a customized look, or the ability to unlock it? Unlocking guarantees you the ability to root. While you can root the VZW moto maker phones, you cannot now, and likely will never be able to unlock it.

To be fair, I did search and not just here. Most what I found were people moving from "top-tier" model phones. The other being that the prices have change a bit from the release date. I will keep you advice in mind though.
I was thining the T-Mobile version would be the best too. From what I've read, it'll be a bit of work but that is part of the fun.

When I originally got my RAZR M, I was on VZW (prepaid to be exact), the tweaks I had done to make it work on their network caused to phone to not play well with the network at times. I removed the frequency block on the radio and now am running my RAZR M with a GoPhone SIM. Works much better even if AT&T's coverage isn't as good a VZW's in my area.

New Moto X, coming with 4.4 or 4.4.2?

Read someone just got there design moto x from motorola last week and it still had 4.4 on it, can someone else confirm they are still coming from Motorola with 4.4? I am sending my standard 16 gig moto x i got from verizon last week back, it had 4.4.2 on it. Verizons upgrade website sends you to motos website to design your own moto x if you don't want the standard black/black 16 gig version. Was about to pull the trigger and order a 32 gig design my own from moto but would like to hear from others who have recently to confirm which version of kitkat is coming on them.
Thanks
Mine came with 4.4 and going crazy everyday asking for the 4.4.2 Ota. I had the phone replaced like 2 weeks ago

Why do you want 4.4? If its that important for you to be able to root and disable write protection that you would return a phone because it had 4.4.2, then consider getting the Developer Edition X for Verizon.
I realize there will be cost differences if you are "renewing" your contract, or using the subsidized pricing, compared to having to pay full price for the Dev Edition, but with the Retail and Moto Maker X and its locked, you'll be stuck on 4.4 from now on. As your actions indicate you are aware 4.4.2 Breaks the current root/WPDisable processes, so you have to understand the likelihood of Root/WPDisable for 4.4.2 and beyond at this point are slim to none on a locked bootloader.
While JCASE has a root exploit to use on 4.4.2, he said due to his job and other commitments, he wont release it until the fall. Who knows what ROM version will be out for the X by then (4.4.3 or above maybe?) and will it patch that exploit? And that still leaves the question of Disabling Write Protection, without which root isn't nearly as useful (many would say worthless because any changes you make while rooted would be lost the next time you power off/on). This "late" in the game, with Moto already saying they are working on an X replacement, will a WPDisable method come to 4.4.2 and beyond?
I understand rooting, disabling write protection on 4.4, and then using Safestrap to run 4.4.2 is still an option. But its not one I've really followed, so I don't know how stable it is compared to just running 4.4.2 by itself. And I don't know the possibilities of running future roms this way (with 4.4 as a base and something higher than 4.4.2 via SS).
Your actions (going through the hassle of returning a phone because it had 4.4.2 already installed and possibly paying a restock fee, then trying to find out if MotoMaker phones still ship with 4.4) would indicate that Rooting and Disabling write protection is extremely important. So I would say Developer Edition is your best option. You can always unlock the bootloader, which disables write protection, and root it, and doing so doesn't void the warranty (at least the hardware warranty)
Oh, and if you don't like the woven white back with black front on the Dev Edition, consider Dbrand skins or a case.

To Freeze the apps (and stop the OTA notification, you need to be rooted.
The 3C_OTA.APK resides in /system/app or /system/priv-app. It can be renamed using a root capable file explorer.
If you are not rooted, you can't stop the OTA or the OTA prompt.

Verizon - Just get the Note 4 ???

I know the rumor was floating around the web that this week was finally going to be the week the n6 was released on verizon, but that was from one guy getting information from one store. no one else has been able to corroborate and every time i've asked verizon, they just respond with the same old "we don't have any information on that phone yet".
at this point do y'all think verizon will ever get the n6?
i wanted to upgrade anyway and was going to get the note 4 before finding out about the n6. would really prefer the n6 but just worried now that verizon isn't ever going to get it.
I am using the one I bought from GPS on Verizon. Verizon will probably never openly support the N6 or carry it. They have no control and that is the biggest problem they have with the Nexus 6. Get it from the GPS and get a nano from Verizon.
The same thing that has been said for the last month. Nobody knows anything. If you can't wait, buy it from Motorola/GPS or move on to another device. But anybody pretending they know or can guess what Verizon is going to do is simply throwing crap at the wall.
that's the problem though. if they ARE getting it at some point, i don't mind waiting. however, if they're going to pass on it entirely - choosing instead to focus on the droid turbo and the new droid phablet rumored to be released in mid 2015 - then i'll just get the note 4 instead.
i don't mind waiting, but don't want to wait around for something that's never going to come.

As Lesser Version stated just get one from the GPS store and a Nano sim from big red and your good to go. Ordered mine from GPS on 11/26, delivered yesterday with standard shipping and got the Nano sim Fedex from Verizon yesterday. Took a little coaching with Verizon rep on phone to get them to activate the Nano sim but the phone works great. If you want an unlocked phone that you can customize get the Nexus if you want a great phone that is locked down, get the Samsung Note 4. I have the Nexus 6, Note 3 and Note 4, all are great phones. I can customize the Note 3 more than the Nexus so far but that will change in time. Nexus gets the best reception out of all the phones due to Moto antennas.

Little late to the party, just picked one of these up

Called a bunch of stores within an hour of me before I found one that still had a brand new one in stock. Manufactured in April 2016 so hopefully no bootloop issues (fingers crossed). For the price... impossible to beat value wise. $4/mo more than one of the "mid level" offerings like the Galaxy J7 and annihilates those in all categories. Have a Diztronic TPU case and a PNY 128GB card arriving tomorrow for it, so far its been great. Was going to see about leaving it unrooted with all the bloat disabled/uninstalled but after having a rooted G2 for over 2 years and no ads... can't deal with the spam so I'll unlock/root it and go from there.
Also very cool to see so much support out there still for this thing. Hoping it lasts me as long as my G2 did. I did have a G3 briefly on VZW before I switched to T-Mo and that one was great too. Kind worried with the direction the G5 is going but anyway... Very happy.
Also the store that had this new G4 still had a new G3 as well... go figure. If they had a current price vs $400 not updated since 2015... I dunno lol. I paid $349 for this G4 which is a damn steal for what you get. I'll pass on the $700-$800 "flagships" because I don't need to render video for Pixar while playing Pokemon Go and telling someone they are wrong on facebook...

Glad you got one. It's a great phone. Next time, stop by swappa.com/buy/lg-g4-tmobile. You can get a like new device for a greatly cheaper price. And if you have the replacement insurance through T-Mo like I do, 3rd party sold phones like these are covered 100%. Been doing this for the past 3 years now.
Will def check that site out thanks. But... After having used phones I'll do the new thing when I can. I have half a mind to pick that new G3 up as a spare or a gift or something.
But this is easily the best phone I have had except for maybe my Vzw G2 before someone walked off with it... No idea but that phone FLEW...
Got the Tpu case in just now (Diztronic like always) and the PNY card. Time to root and load up the music etc... Also ordered a Qi charging sticker for charging. Really really really hoping this thing stays solid and does not suffer from bootloops...
Edit... Rofl they do indeed want $400 for that G3... I paid $349 for this G4...
Great phone
Love this phone, got it two months ago for $250 brand new after haggling with customer care. Came from the Samsung S5 and it's quite a step up, I'm rooted using latest version of Turbo's Enterprise rom and it's night and day from stock.
Congrats on the purchase.
Yeah I just rooted tonight without incident. Still deciding if I want to go with a rom or not. Phone is fast as hell as is, I've got ads blocked, bloat disabled/uninstalled and I get 7GB a month of tethering for free from T-Mo already... Mainly rooted to get rid of the ads.

Glad you got one. It's a great phone. Next time, stop by swappa.com/buy/lg-g4-tmobile. You can get a like new device for a greatly cheaper price. Hi Are you talking about JUMP? Because I didn't know that you can apply it to third-party phones. If it is not can you let me know, Thank you.

This is completely false. I've sim unlocked easily while bootloader unlocked and rooted. Just be stock based, not cm, and you'll be fine. I used the tmo sim unlock app right after I met the requirements and sim unlocked easily. I restored to cm immediately afterwards.
I recommend making a backup and flashing micro's stock zip build and trying the sim unlock app. If you're still having issues, check if you meet tmo's sim unlock requirements. (device paid off, device on the account long enough, enough payments have been made if prepaid.)
