Hi folks,
I've got a pure edition activated on AT&T, but I'm having a bear of a time getting mms to work.
I've tried adding the "phone" APN rather than the nxtgenphone APN that was there by default, have tried all sorts of things with AT&T including getting them to update my IMEI to an At&t Moto x instead of "AT&T Victara".
What is particularly frustrating is that mms doesn't really work (I effectively can't send or receive), but it does work occasionally (particularly it likes to receive after a reboot).
I do get LTE speeds (and show 4g lte in the status bar), at least in some places, and my AT&T sgs3 (d2att) while still sending and receiving slowly does work better to send and receive mms.
Signal strength stinks overall, but not sure where the blame lies on that. Spent an hour in the store and on phone with them. No help.
Anyone having the same issues?
Any help?
I had the same issue. I was on the phone with att for some time. Eventually started working.
Ps: make sure you disable any ad block apps first. Reset your apn to default and then try. After you get it working, you can then enable your adblock.
Post your APN settings.

Dude, you rock. Adblock was the issue.... What gives? Did you get it working with adblock?
That's truly odd. I thought adblock only sits on the wifi connection as a proxy to filter out ads.
to the OP: did adblock work well for you in blocking ads both on cellular and wifi?

Yeah, works to block ads on both. But it totally blocks mms. Turn it on, no mms, turn it off, immediately working again.
as far as installing it, did you have to do anything more to get it to block ads when using cell/data connection?
i followed the instructions on the site and that only blocks ads when on wifi.

Don't know man. I think I do...? Now I have to check!
Same issue No Add-Blocker
I am having the same issue on my Moto X Pure Edition 2015. My issue seems to be specific to when I use the google messenger app. I have confirmed that I only have one APN setup. I am on Cricket and I don't use any add blockers.
Any idea? Is this just a bug with the google Messenger app?
Use older all of hangout
I'm using a older version of hangout version 3.3xxx. Apkfun or other apk mirrors have it. Google messenger is still not liking my cricket mvno apn... You could also try a older version of messenger 1.2xx may work.

I'm trying to get wifi tethering to work but I've tried all kinds of ways and getting all kinds of issues. I did the freeze+ESFile Net approach, Wanam tetherprovision disabled approach, FoxFi w/ proxy (bluetooth tether does work though, however limited to web browsing with no youtube), and renaming the tetherprovisions apk+odex combination with all of these approaches to no avail. I either get FC or "no mobile data or invalid sim" whenever I activate the tether. It does go through occasionally to show the blue icon in notification bar saying tether is on however on my tablet or laptop I don't get any internet even if it connects to the phone (which after 30sec it crashes and doesn't reconnect). I am on Tmo's unlimited everything plan (which comes with 2.5gb tether capabilities) using my S4A(i537) AWS enabled and all. Don't know what is different with my phone and those that got it to work.
Also is there a way to enable WiFi calling on this phone?

I can't speak for the Wifi calling, but in this thread I talk about a good way to get tethering to work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420488&page=4
A few more steps then the freezing permissions, but it is much easier to use one you want to. (Also make sure to unfreeze the provision and make it like it started off before proceeding with those steps)

Not sure what you are doing then, but I can assure you that it works in MK3.
Anyone else having issues similar to this? While connected to wifi my messages just time out / retry. if while it's retrying I disconnect from wifi, the message goes right away.
Moto X DE Rooted on 4.4.2 as of Tuesday evening.
Any chance you have ad block plus installed?

I have AdAway installed.
You do need an active data connection to send MMS (they don't send over WiFi). So it depends on what else you have going on -- i.e. if you have a Tasker profile to turns data off while connected to WiFi or something like that

The last two times I've had issues with it sitting, as soon as I dropped wifi it sent. I do have/use tasker, but am on vzw unlimited data so I don't ever turn it off even when connected to wifi. Thanks for the suggestion.
I don't remember this issue pre-4.4.2 but I don't send a *lot* of mms's so I wouldn't argue its starting point as being 4.4.2 for sure.
DISCLAIMER: This is my first thread on XDA, so hopefully I'm not posting in the wrong place/format/context/whatever. If I am, sorry.
For those of you with AT&T plans that don't include Tethering, I came across a simple way to bypass this with root and allow you to run the built in tethering instead of having to use FoxFi.
What you'll need:
Xposed Framework
X Tether Module (Xposed Module)
Root (towelroot method)
Titanium Backup
Root Explorer/ES File Explorer
Step 1:
Install Xposed Framework.
Once installed, launch Xposed Installer, go to Downloads and search for X Tether
Install X Tether, Activate the Module, and reboot.
Step 2:
Open Titanium Backup and find TetheringProvision 4.06.72
Press the App and select 'Freeze !'
Step 3:
Open Root Explorer and navigate to:
/system/app/
Now rename TetheringProvision.apk and TetheringProvision.odex
to TetheringProvision.apk.bak and TetheringProvision.odex.bak
Step 4:
Reboot, Set up Hotspot and Enjoy!

Tried this, when I attempt to activate the HotSpot it says "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped."
After following the updated instructions, my hotspot appears to be working. Thank you!
Yea, that looked too easy. Usually you would swap the tethering provision files with hacked ones.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I see you changed the instructions in the thread. That just renaming the file like you suggested earlier, well AT&T caught on to that, and now that doesn't work anymore.

Hi shortydoggg,
You're right, I left out the most important part, the Xposed Module.
X Tether (or Moto Tether) is what actually clears out the array that stores the provision varification data (config_mobile_hotspot_provision_app)
Just running this module didn't work for me at first but after renaming the Tether Provisioning files it worked fine.
I also had trouble renaming the files until I froze the Tether Provisioning apk file.
I just ran another test and the built in wifi hotspot is still working great with my 3GB monthly plan.
Works awesome!!!!
BTW, I have the Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan.
Thanks!
Did this yesterday, worked fine. THANKS!
Also another grandfathered unlimited plan here; they provisioned the plan on my new GS5 but couldn't enable tethering. This solves that!! Awesome!!

Open the Xposed network on your phone and check that the tethering module is activated, and that the xposed network actually installed. You may need to do another step (hint)
Wifi tether speed
I was able to allow mobile hot spot on my Att S5 using the S4 method of replacing the tetherprovision.apk, problem is the speed of the devices connected is terrible. Fine for checking email on one device but not for streaming netflix on multiple like I need. Anyone know of a way to change this? Is it some config file that is set purposely to limit tethered devices?
Note 3 4.4.2
works, thanks
having trouble with the settings also

AT&T Note 3 on T-Mobile
It works great.
Question - will T-mobile know when I'm tethering? If so, is there a way... ?
Thanks

They shouldn't notice. I've been tethering on my s2 for years without any issues.
Some developers will say it is technically possible. If your concerned, a VPN service will hide all of your online habits from Tmobile.
I have a subscription through PrivateInternetAccess, I havent hand any issues with their app.
It works!!! I'm also on the grandfathered unlimited plan!
Thanks!!

Note 3 AT&T on T-Mobile, never used hotspot before
A few questions -
1. Phone gets hot when hotspot is on. Is that normal?
2. Connection drops from time to time. IPv6 connectivity shows "no internet access", but then works without me doing anything. Is that T-Mobile's fault?
3. When I received a call the icon changed from LTE to 4g, but while hotspot is on and pc connected, the signal never changed back to LTE. Is that how it supposed to be? I have to turn hotspot off and on after every phone call to get LTE back? Or is that T-Mobile not being happy (I have not used the 3gb hotspot limit on my unlimited data plan)
Thanks
Hi, first off a major thanks to OP for posting an excellent tutorial on how to do this. I was really hoping to get tethering enabled on my grandfather unlimited data plan before vacation and am so excited to not have to pay $15 a day for WiFi.
I've been having a lot of lag with the phone lately. Its very slow to respond to typing, switching apps, and even waking and putting to sleep takes 5-10 seconds longer than normal. Any suggestions? I followed all of the directions to the letter and aside from this massive amount of lag, everything is perfect.

Hey Nikon,
Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge on the subject can help out but here are my thoughts.
1. My s2 always got hot while tethering for long periods of time and my s5 seems to do the same as well.
This is normal and caused by the 4G antenna and WiFi antenna running simultaneously.
2. Perhaps IPv6 is not working but IPv4 is? I'm seeing the same thing on my AT&T connection.
3. I never had this issue. You might want to double check your APN settings, it could be a t-mobile thing but I really don't think they're targeting people who tether, it sounds more like the connection can't re-establish after connecting to a phone call.

Hey RSCTurner20,
I haven't notice any lag since doing this, does the lag go away if you turn off the X Tether Module and reboot?
edit: most likely cause and a quick fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784945
that's right - if you get a call or access phone settings while client is connected phone cannot re-establish lte connection.
I know when you get a call (hotspot off) on Nexus 5 it takes anywhere from 15 seconds to up to 5 minutes to get lte back
Is there a way to force phone to refresh frequencies?
For those of you who are using Straight Talk with your N6 I was curious if you noticed this problem I have. When I am trying to send an SMS and I'm on the road with wifi enabled but not connected a hot spot my SMS will not send unless I turn off wifi. Anyone happen to know a fix for this?
You sending as sms? Or as mms? I don't see any possible way for wifi to impact sms, BUT, mms uses a data connection, which can be messed up by tethering provisions for limited or blocked-tether service providers. Could also be impacted by the specific application being used. Google set n6 up to use hangouts as default sms/mms application, you might try using google messenger instead. Its a bit more bare-bones and certainly does use sms for sms messages.
I have straight talk for my N6, but I do not experience the issue you have though, it all works great for me.

Version : WW-17.0240.2007.27, non-root
Hey everyone, I have been using the latest firmware of the ROG Phone 2 as they release from the Asus website, the latest firmware has been fine although suddenly the cellular data has stopped working, (besides some apps I.e Spotify recognises a data connection and can stream any cached songs). The icon shows the 4G+ but with the X for No Internet. Phonecalls and MMS work fine.
Update 6/8/20 (temporary-solution found!)
From some playing around I found a solution that seemed to fix it for me.
1. Turn the phone off
2. Remove the SIM card tray
3. Turn the phone on (Without the sim card tray inserted)
4. Re-insert the sim card tray after the phone is all properly loaded
Update: 9/8/2020
Cellular stopped working again

Did you set private DNS? I experienced I set private DNS to block some of ads, and the DNS server suddenly down which cause no internet but the signal still show 4G+.
Same problem as you.
Hey there,
I am having the same problem as you as well. After i had updated to the latest, my internet has stop working. It shows 4g,but with an x below. However, i am able to use sms, and phonecalls. I tried toggling the mobile data, it worked for a while. But after a few mins, it went back to the same. Any way to go back to the previous update, please help.

No, I haven't setup my DNS with the private DNS feature but the Wifi menu, and I'm not sure if that even applies to cellular data anyway.
