Cyanogen/AOSP is pure android without all the unnecessary graphics, designs and bloat from Samsung.
Minimal design = stronger processor strength.
Plus, pure stock Android is just better.

XDA has gone to $hit. He asked a simple question. Why does everyone need to be a$$holes?

I see. I guess this is similar to Nexus phone.? Stock android?
Then stock stuff miss alot of things like no notifcations with running count, like on your voice messages or txt. Then we need to install launcher. Then we back to the same thing?

Why buy a Note device if you want stock boring Android? Never understood that.
IMHO - CyanogenMod is just plain boring. I understood the need for it way back in the G1 days. Maybe now in place of vanilla Android but as a rom on a Note 4? Hells no.

Because Note devices have the top of the line and updated processors. In other words, fastest/strongest processors on the market at the time of release.
You will never see the full capacity of this processor until you're on Pure Android.
And that's what I love. This beastly processor on bare Android.
Perfection.

I agree with you. IMO (<- take note of that before anyone gets butt hurt.) I think "some" people don't realize how much TW has improved. It's pretty awesome on the Note 4 and for those who like TW can definitely tell how far it has come.
CM is boring and IMO it takes away from the Notes DNA of what makes a Note a Note. If I just cared about having the best piece of hardware with a big screen, I'd still want something pleasing to look at than a black and white movie.
Like I've said earlier....
...and it's nice to be able to drive a McLaren P1 and do the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds as oppose to driving a gutted Honda Civic fully modded with no interior w/ a welded roll cage and helment running 9's in the 1/4. Chicks dig luxury, performance and comfort..."
IMO for anyone wanting CM, they should just the Nexus 6 or an iphone LOL. The fact remains that the new TW is very efficient and there are enough customizations you can do with wanam/xpose to be able to enjoy all the benefits of CM or not, depending on your style and preference. I am confident to give CM a run for its money on AnTuTu along with other benchmarks, because the truth is, with TW already running 50K+ on stock kernel, anything above this wouldn't really be noticeable if at all. Heck even anything below that wouldn't really make a difference in the real world with normal usage. Therefore, although all this doesn't really matter, I think it'll be fun to explore the close race between TW and CM. I'm game for it....bring it on. There won't be a big enough gap to even make CM justifiable IMO. Plus, the girl will want to ride in my car, not the gutted honda civic. Be a gentleman, and treat her like a lady. LOL j/k.
At the end of the day, it's your phone and you can do whatever the heck your heart desires. :highfive:
Bottom line, just be happy to know that you own the best darn device available and enjoy!

5.0 Lollipop for Samsung is supposed to have a very material look.
If that's the case than the AOSP Roms aren't going to be the best out there.

The whole 5.0 thing is making me a little nervous. But then again didn't we have this scare before? I don't know....darn Google....

Coming from Verizon, it is a welcome change to have an unlocked bootloader, and the choice to drive the custom muscle car or the luxury car.

You can drive both with the N4 especially with the availability of some awesome ROM's.....You seem like a car guy...if you want the performance of a fully gutted drag car with the luxury of a S Class, try the FireKatv3 ROM. You won't be disappointed. It's so crazy light and freakin' fast as heck.

I really want to try that Ron but I need Unlimited tethering so I don't think
That rom supports it

the great thing about Cyanogen for our phone will be that will open the doors for all sorts of AOSP roms; Cyanogen mod is a very stripped down version of AOSP, but there are fantastic AOSP roms out there, (SlimRom, ParaNoidAndroid,AOKP) are a few that come to mind, and, they come with mods and fixes that bring ALOT of the stuff you get on the stock TouchWiz roms, just with different software; and, regardless of what anyone says, NO touchwiz rom will be as light, swift, slick and fast as an AOSP rom.
I too would be curious to see how this phone would scream with an AOSP rom, and I'm sure it wont be long till a few of them start showing up; but, usually Cyanogen Mod will be the first one that gets ported for a newly released phone..

WiFi Tether Router, from the playstore works flawlessly.
I use it daily.
FireKatv3 is insane...
I've mentioned in another post where I would much rather use a 3rd party tethering app over a baked in one any day. More setting options....therefore, with me even if a ROM had it baked in, I wouldn't be using it anyway.

Yes it'll be screaming fast, no denying that. But unlike before where there was a huge gap between asop roms vs stock tw....from my crazy smooth experience so far with the newly refined TW (thanks to FireKatv3), that gap has closed a lot.
It's nice to finally be able to go fast and in luxury without sacrificing luxury for performance like before.
Most people buy the note for the note experience to enjoy the luxury that it offers while being equipped with a v12 monster.
IMO, Why buy a Bentley just to strip it of its luxury? Why not just downgrade and buy a Nexus 6? Answer? Because even in this scenerio the N4 is still better. Fair enough.
A stripped down Bently (asop) is obviously going to be faster than the one (stock) still having its hand stitched leather seats that does weigh a ton. But, thanks to a highly refined ROM like FireKatv3, that v12 beast is tuned to provide more power to balance out the power to weight ratio, while still being naturally aspirated. That's impressive.
All credit to Mega (the dev) of FireKatv3, but I'm pretty darn happy about my experience so far running on stock kernel and hitting 50k+. Now regardless of any opinions on benchmarks and real world experience, the fact remains that my real world experience is more than enough to justify my 50k+ bench score.
I've yet to see any other ROM do that.
So I'll see yall asop'ers at the drag strip and give you a run for the money. It'll be good fun. [emoji106]

Do you really wan't cyanogenmod on your HTC Vivid?

An HTC without sense is like a ZR-1 with a 4cyl engine...
Now before you go and start screaming HOW DARE YOU!!!, relax,
and think for a moment, Why did you buy the VIVId ?
was you thinking how CM would run on it or you liked the style that sense offers?
I personally love the looks and widgets that sense offers and I thick CM Or aOSP lack many features.
Do you like the Zr-1 with all the works or you want the Lotus elise without even AC?
now Scream>>>>>>!!!!!
Because some people like the style and the features of the Vivid. And a lot of people like a CM over sense, but still like sense in general (like me.) And having cm would open up the door for aosp roms, miui, etc. I didn't buy my sgs2 plainly for touchwiz, I bought it because of the great potential in this device, and the vivid (pretty much every HTC phone) has a lot of potential.
And I'd take the Lotus, I don't drive American cars.... just my opinion

See your point, it comes down to your personal taste.
I think the Samsung wiz is not a ll that different from aosp and looks too much like the fruit company. And I really hate the fruit company because of that "we are the best don't even try to change it you pay me to loan you the item " attitude.
and I still think that even being American, the ZR1 will eat the lotus.... jejeje..
I have a vivid (velocity) because work issued me with one... It is the first 4G phone for Australia and we wanted to test it for work (Hell, at least I'm not the guy who had to get an iphone) I cannot wait for CM or AOSP, imho, sense is clunky and it feels old compated to cm and miui, this phone feels slower than my htc hd2, even basic features that ADW and launcherpro have had for ages, changing the grid size, adjusting widget sizes, more robust toggles in the status tray... it feels to me that HTC are going in the wrong direction with sense.

That´s awesome that you started a post to make an irrelevant comparison ROMS and cars. But let me do you a favor and make it relevant again.
I bought a Vivid because it has what I was looking for with hardware, the software can be upgraded as I see fit. Would you ever mod the exhaust or intake or headers or anything on your Elise without altering the car´s computer configuration? I certainly hope not.
As someone mentioned earlier, it´s about personal preference. Some people might want the Elise because of what it comes with stock, some people will buy it for what it CAN be with the proper tuning. So enjoy sense as long as you want it, I will endure it as long as I have to.
And a quick FYI, AC units weigh a hell of a lot, so it´s usually part of the stage 3 weight reduction kits for cars.

I get the fact that some people <3 sense forever.
But If I could get a ZR-1 that could switch off 4 -cylinders (change roms) and run without the sense-v8, like a modern HEMI, for when I want to save fuel(battery) and I'm in bumper to bumper email territory, that would provide the most appealing from both worlds.
I'd like to have the choice either way. Loved Sense 2; Sense 3 was fine, Sense 3.5 looks a bit like a "meh" revision of 3. Want to see Sense 4 before I decide whether or not to keep it.
I liked having CM on my Galaxy S, but I like Sense more than AOSP Gingerbread.

ZR1's a pile of poo. Car's made out of plastic, rear-wheel-drive and an inefficient shouty V8. Consider the Lotus Elise, comes remarkably close in performance since it can actually take a corner, and runs on a 1.8L Toyota engine to boot. Looks a damn sight nicer too, and costs half as much.
If I had the money to burn on a ZR1, I'd go for a far more elegant version of its package: Mercedes Benz's C63 AMG Black coupe, for slightly less money to boot.
But, since I'm a sane and normal man, I'd rather get the Audi RS5 or the Audi R8 V10 Spyder. I'd rather drive an Impreza WRX STi than the Vette, to be honest.
Yes, I'm an American too.

Have you ever tried it out? It's really quite interesting... Not as bad as I thought it might be. I remember giving people crap for using that iOS look a like. But once I actually tried it out it wasn't half bad. Of course, I ended up reverting back to sense, but it was cool to try it out for a little while.

I used miui because it was really polished, and very quick, there are plenty of themes that look nothing like iphone (like a theme that makes your whole phone look like a borderlands computer, complete with holograms and rusty corregated iron, that was my favorite)
It is just really nice, everything is easy and logical, and yet you still have access to all of the awesome android apps
Music player was great, could retreive lyrics and art, built in popups for sms messages and quick replies, a logically arranged settings menu, built in firewall, built in data counter, no app drawer to deal with which I liked, persistant app row on the bottom of the app screen good for 4 to 7 apps to be anchored there, hold down home and it shows you running apps, hold down the back key and it kills any app thats crashed... it is a totally sweet system, well worth looking at not just passing it off as an iphone clone.
Also... some people really like the iphone look (I like the interface, its well made) but want the flexability and open access of a rooted android, and thats what you get with MIUI, its not for everyone, but it deffinetely appeals to me

There is some decent discussion, but its mostly off topic from a trolling post.. No offense to actual contributors, but im locking this. Reading through the first few posts of this thread make my head hurt..

And on the seventh day God created HTC Sense...

And just how happy were the Samsung people? Click here...
I can get the devs "sense" of achievement but the hundreds of followers comments of yipeeeeeee, and awesome... etc etc etc ... Why not just buy an HTC?
I am near the end of my 3 month trial of a Nexus S and it has lasted pricisely 2 weeks, its up for sale. I just do not like it. Its featureless and slow. My Desire HD -using rcmix runny- is so much smoother and quicker to the touch I just don't get how they done so well. On Saturdy, else before, I will pickup my Evo 3d dual core and go again -after 4 years- with htc. At $330 (£229 in Asda UK), I just can't say no.
I know there are lots of fans out there for Samsung, but what do you like about it?
Me on Nexus S. Buttons, wkd for reboots to recovery when had to rip battery out. Nice and easy. Like the longer thinner screen too. And Amoled is very good. That is it.
I think you're confusing 'Samsung' with Vanilla Android. What you experienced with the Nexus S isn't your normal Samsung experience. The Nexus phones are pure, unadulterated Android. They may seem plain to some but they're designed to be. They are developers phones. They're easy to mod, to theme and easy to use.
If i bought a Nexus S i would have MIUI on it in a heartbeat personally, but that's the whole point of what we do here. Buy a phone you like and have it your way. Vanilla, Sense, MIUI, iphone themed... whatever. I can understand wanting a Nexus S and putting Sense on it, if you're a fan of both!
Some people buy HTC but get rid of Sense as quickly as humanly possible. Different strokes for different folks.

Another example of Samsung letting someone else do all the work. MIUI -for me- is boring, too much concentration on being an iphone rather than itself. I used to use first MIUI roms when it took weeks to get a translation out of Shen. It might be time to try it again.
I am one of the ones that strips Sense immediately. The point was that my HD runs faster and smoother with sense that the NS runs without it at all. I tried many roms and the lag is terrible, as was the stock rom. Now performance with the Oxygen or absolution roms... That is special. I just think the build quality is better. I guess I am disappointed with no singing OR dancing.

All UI's from manafacture's are for android, which is what the Nexus S has, just not skined, the Nexus One, that didn't have any custom UI, does that mean HTC is letting someone else do all the work. Not sure dude. I think that Samsung were cute using the Tegra 2 for those models and you will see a big swing this year when htc have the t3 inside. In bothe phone and tablet. The actual feel of an htc in your hand is much better i reckon. The nexus s and sg2 seem plasticy.
I have the cm9 kali ics on now.It is the only one of all the ICS's I can install and not spend 1hr putting things right on. its ok, but nothing like as quick as my DHD with sense on and loaded with apps, but that's on GB.
Ah well. I'm not sure what I expected from it really. The fact that i do mess with my own roms and knew what I would makes me the stupid one. If ur happy ur happy. I just wanted something different.

I have to totally disagree with you there old bean
Sense is lovely, it's so smooth and logical. I find it usable where as I find plain android horrible so would never have a nexus.
As for hardware, yes the SGS II screen is nice, but the phone feels really cheap and brittle to me, I'd be worried about sitting down and snapping it. I don't have such issues with the sensation and prefer the higher resolution screen.
It's one of the huge advantages Android has over other phone OSs, there's so much variety and customisation available pretty much everyone's desires can be met.

Thinking of buying the N700 (switching from Galaxy Nexus)

Hey guys, just looking for you opinion on what I should expect when switching from Galaxy Nexus to a Galaxy Note (N700) in terms of performance.
I mostly use the browser so I am most concerned with the browser performance. I have played a bit with one and could clearly see differences in performance compared to the buttery-smooth Galaxy Nexus. I think I could live with these minor shortcomings though, when I've got that HUGE screen. I also think I'd be better off with a bigger screen when I'm typing, because I type a lot, either in the browser or IM'ing with people. This is the main reason I want the Note.
Basically I want to know what you guys miss from your old phone, before the Note.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a Nexus just for the ability to switch between Tmobile and Att. What's stopping me is that I tried a S3 for a month but I kept coming back to the Note. The BIG SCREEN is really nice.
So far I have not found a JB rom for the Note that I like. They all seem so laggy compared to a CM9 rom with Apex and some minor UI tweeaks. Even stock TW roms that people swear a butter smooth seem laggy to me, ok not going between desktop screens but it is slow. If I were in your shoes, I would buy a used Note and give it a go but not be so quick to sell the Nexus.
The really big difference I can think of, switching from Gnex to Gnote is the very fast update that Google makes on the Gnex itself... When Google say that Gnex is their brand of phone to get the latest JB updates.. they really mean it to a tee. You get the best of both worlds that Google can deliver to your phone no question about that.
The only thing that's holding me from selling my Gnote and switching back to Gnex was and is still the fact on the WOW Factor that our phone makes to a lot of people. Whenever I stroll down Portsmouth to bars or drinking with my buddies.. it never fails to amaze me a stranger would right off comment and say.. " hey you got a nice phone there bud!".. I just smirked and smiled back at them.

I can understand if a chick comes up to you and says.. hey.. you got a nice bulge on your pants, you bring out the phone and the chick says... Oh. I thought it's something else!
what a bummer!
anyway goin back, yeah the Note still a spectacle to have with.. I mean, it got a nice big screen, faster GPS and I can truly say, I had scribbled my signature once on an online cheque copy and sent it via email... how cool is that..,
Yeah, I'm definitely convinced now that I want it. And I'm ready to say (temporarily) good bye to Jelly Bean We are pretty sure that the Note 1 will be updated to Jelly Bean, right?
Given the scenario...yeah... But my constant rule is.. Never expect anything...if JB comes before this year ends then great! If doesn't, then that's good. At least there's something we can look forward to for early next year perhaps.

Honestly, even if Jelly Bean does not trickle down to Note 1, I'm not bothered. Currently on Rocket ROM, previously used JellyCore v2 and I don't see any features that can sway me over. Even the "huge" upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS was a minor boost to me - only because of the feature to use voice-typing keyboard. I don't really see per-app notification settings or widgets that arrange automatically or Google Now or anything else particularly necessary. OK, "but what about project butter?!" some will say. I will say that on my 4.0.4 Note I don't feel sluggishness to make me want any speed improvements. And no, it's not a Note with the default apps that come with it - it's crammed with apps and I am a very heavy user.
Only gap-less audio playback and offline dictation might sway me over but definitely not a necessity.
I plan to use it with the stock ROM so Project Butter would probably make a lot of difference.

The General OT Thread

Would such a thread be allowed here? Most other device forums have such a thread and it serves as a general OT thread to cut away the number of created threads. I searched briefly before starting this and did not come across anything similar.
So, let me start off. I am an S5 G900F user since a few weeks back and I'm still running it stock without root. Yes, all the bloat and stuff that comes with but in my defense I'm running Nova Launcher Prime on top.

Those two are the BEST roms for the S5 in my opinion. Fast and slim.
But I'll wait for cm12 now. I'm on cm11 nightly 8.11. and next flash will be cm12.

I've been thinking about flashing either XtreStoLite or CM myself but I need to give it some more thought.

They both have their pro`s and cons. CM is not pure AOSP either as isn`t TW as they are both heavily modified. I love the Samsung camera software which makes great pics. The CM ones are ok but in quality their less than sammy`s. The XtreStolite as i have it is 650MB as i have some TW modules flashed that i wanted. Performance is great and batterylife is very good, its about on par for performance but less batterylife on CM. Its all about preference off course but in usability/compatability TW is the winner imo.

The Samsung Camera takes greats photos, yes, but the interface seems a little cluttered. It feels as if they wanted to make something good but ended up just packing every possible setting into it with no real logics applied.

True, its a bit chaotic because of the many features they put into it, but Lollipop will bring many changes to TW and its apps/widgets i believe.
Had a quick change of heart. I'm now rooted with TWRP installed.

Congratulations! Soon you will be seeing "kernel is not seandroid enforcing! Set warranty bit: kernel" at every boot . I tried to start a thread like this with the name "General Thread" but it got lost. Glad this one got some attention had some good chats at our s3 thread haha. I hate having a new phone, I reboot and flash so many times then flash again bc I didnt like it or found something else. Mostly kernels, I'm on hacker kernel currently, seems we don't have many kernels. I think Ktweaker is overrated, it has a lot of features but feels a bit bloated and sluggish at times

I like the fingerprint too much. I have a need for security and like it to be quick. Its more reliable than face unlock. Plus its one of the unique features that won me over from the z2 which I very nearly got, I wish they would've used open sources. I feel like I'm having a break from CM after using it for so long, touchwiz is forgiving enough to use this time around, and I still get a taste of aosp when I use my nexus 7. Now do I flash L or not? I have a deb and L has no working data. I don't actually use a sim in it hardly it just happens to be the device I could get credit on. My problem is I have OCD and if I know something is not working it will bug the hell out of me even if I don't use it. But im dying to taste lollipop!

I like the fingerprint thingy too but it's too unreliable for me. I wish it was like TouchID.
I'm like that too, if something doesn't work I'm bothered immensely by it, even if I don't specifically use that feature. Luckily, everything seems to work on CM. Maybe not as well as on TW, but they still work.

It works well for me after training it a few times. I notice cases with a lip require special technique to get a full swipe. A touch sensor would work better but they avoided getting sued yet again by the control freak idea stealing/patenting that is apple, so they used swipe like the atrix. I would have used that as a court weapon to exploit apples "originality". Get that finger scanner working and I will happily ditch TW

Couldn't have said it better myself. A work mate I got into our current employer from our previous unreliable job switched from samsung s2 to Iphone 5s and now loves it. He laughs at the size of my s5. Whats most annoying is that he bases his preference on how the phone feels. Put a one m8 or galaxy alpha in his hands please

Screw knox. I'm experiencing some reboots and even happened once before rooting. I have every intention of sending it back with a detailed letter of my usage, mods and findings to prove that my meddling is not to blame. I noticed that undervolting made it 10 times worse, perhaps my device needs higher than stock voltage?? At any rate I love this thing so much I've managed to keep in looking like new in a case. I hate cases, the only blemishes are on the battery door from fiddling with the charging cover. Expecting a slim armor tomorrow because the neo hybrids edges are too "square" making it difficult to hold, hope this case is easier to hold

Is it Worth It?

Hello! Ket here, and I am wondering, is the Nexus 6 really worth it or would a Samsung Galaxy S6(Or 5) Be better? I'd like your fully opinion! thanks!
Thanks - Ket
Oh dear.
Its subjective. We like the N6. S6 users probably prefer that. Get what you want, not what we tell you.

What would it matter to you? It wouldn't / shouldn't change your view. If you want an S6, get it. Its a completely different phone. Generally people go for Nexus devices because they're the complete opposite of Samsung devices.

I've had Samsung phone since the vibrant came out. They are by their own right an excellent device if you can tolerate TW. Now I don't think I'll be going back.
IMO; go N6!!
I had the S4 and it has some feature that I do miss. The air gestures mostly.
I had an n6, switched to the s6, then a month later back to the n6.
The s6 was a solid phone, looks amazing and smooth as hell, my fav phone ive ever owned
But eventually i missed the big screen of the nexus and the bigger battery. I was charging the s6 about 2 times a day, and i got tired of it. Also i missed being able to customize my phone, but the stock s6 isnt bad at all so i didnt miss it too much.
Overall id say go with the n6 cause the battery life on the s6 will get annoying after a while.
Me personally i probably wouldve stayed on the s6 if they had a bigger battery.

To be honest, I've looked through all the phones I could get that are the latest and greatest (Except iPhones) And I got stuck, N6 or S6? Some things are better on N6 some are better on S6 and thats why im stumped, Price DOES NOT matter to me because of my contact I have, but I really need to know what people perfer, as of now I think I want a N6 because I hate TouchWiz, but either way they'll both end up on some rom like CyanogenMod 12.1... I also dont really care for the look or feel because I'll be getting a case anywhere, so It really comes down to specs, battery life, software(on N6), and stuff like that,
Also: Is it true what N6 (and all Nexus's) get updates before the Samsungs?

Camera. S6 camera is so damn beautiful
And the design is sexxy
Also the screen is the best screen ive ever seen on any smartphone, and has better viewing in sunlight.
The s6 performs better stock as well. Gaming on the n6 for has been mediocre, but with a custom kernel that problem goes away. The s6 performs top notch out of the box, no customizing needed.

If you want cm12, n6 is best. Cm12 likely wont come for the s6 anytime soon, if ever because of the type of processor used.
And yes, n6 get updates before any other phone.
So it looks like you need an n6

Here's the deal here, Samsung put a blocker on many things the flashaholic loves..they have their Knox, warranty void when rooted, don't share sources for things like camera HAL, and if you're unlucky enough not get an exynos version, no sources for that either.
If custom AOSP roms is your thing, nexus hands down...
Other than that list which pros mean most to you and see which has the most.

Sounds to me like an easy decision, but only.you can make itm
I had S3, note 3 and note 4 until 2 weeks ago when I decided to give N6 a try. I love big screens and now can not go back to none stock android. It's just an Awsome experience.
Yes, S6 is a beautiful and great phone. But after having a 6 inch screen, any phone with screen less than 5.7 feels like a child's toy to me.

I apologise in advance for being pedantic, you're going to hate me
You can't say "none stock" as a comparison to other phones. Stock means unmodified as in, how it left the factory, shipped and is "in Stock". I think what you meant was "None vanilla". The Nexus 6 has Vanilla Android as stock. But All phones have a "stock" OS, whether it is vanilla or otherwise. Touchwiz is Stock on a Samsung. You can install Vanilla too (AOSP).
I know it's only a minor inaccuracy and I'm being pedantic by bringing it up, but since people quite regularly confuse Vanilla and Stock as synonyms, it does confuse noobs here when different people mean different things when they say stock - so it's best to use it correctly
So yeah, The official ROM for every phone is a Stock ROM. Custom ROMs can either be based on the stock ROM for that phone or on AOSP, which would be a Vanilla Android ROM.
(Sorry)

No worries. I completely agree with you on Stock vs Vanilla. I stand corrected. So, yes, I am loving "vanilla" android and nexus 6 is a great hardware to complement that.
