Bootloop and Signal Loss - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble with my phone whereby rebooting it (for xposed module updates and the like) will cause the phone to either enter a bootloop or reboot succesfully and lose signal (I also lose my apn list without anyway of saving new apn's and also get "unknown" for both imei and baseband in settings).
This appears to have happened since I have moved to google stock based roms (cyanogenmod, liquidsmooth etc) and I have not yet found a permanent fix - I have tried all matter of things such as flashing a new radio, reflashing rom, wiping cache and dalvik cache - all these solutions have both worked and not worked so I am stuck as to what is causing this.
I am wondering whether it might be to do with not being on the latest firmware or hboot. I am currently on FW 5.12.771.3 or FW 4.20.771.17 (sorry but I am afraid to reboot into fastboot in order to find the exact FW and getting the rom stuck in a bootloop again) and H-BOOT 1.54.00.
I have also been told my problem may lie with meta-inf file, but this is over my head.
Thanks in advance.

It is likely a hardware problem especially if you are losing imei and baseband. Please read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56528356&postcount=5

Is this something that can be fixed by HTC repair centre or will it have to break before I can send it back to them to be fixed.

You can give them a call and explain what you are experiencing, then go from there. If it is under warranty, you will want to send it back stock.

If you have warranty your only hope is to try and s-off the device. Then you can return to Stock and get it repaired under warranty.
Getting s-off may prove troublesome. But you say your phone is stable at this time so I assume your running CM11?

It's over 18 months old so I doubt the warranty is available. Ive had the purple tinted camera issue fixed already.
I am running cm11, the issue only appears to be when I reboot. When the phone is left on without a reboot I don't get any signal issue whatsoever.

Well the fact that imei and baseband come back is promising. Although it's hard to know what tinkering with it may do. Could make it worse, could make it better depends on what exactly is causing it. but so far it sounds like your problem is not quite as bad as the other cases.
Is the device still on contract with Three, if so you may find they will replace it. It's definitely worth contacting them about the issue. If there prepared to replace the device it's worth trying to s-off. I'm with Three myself and have an extensive collection of files you can use to return to stock. But you will need to s-off the phone.
I would speak with Three first find out what your options with them are before playing about with it to much. But if your going to s-off it would be better to do it sooner rather than later. If the reboots get worse. You may have a hard time achieving s-off.

Mmm! Good news for you I guess
Did any of the roms that caused this issue ever run stable on your device.
Are you sure the Google based roms you used didn't require s-off?

Yep, all ran stable until rebooting. My device is S-OFF . I think i'll stick to sense roms for the time being.

Data Connection Issue

Hi
I rooted my phone 2 days back and installed Trickdroid ROM, since then i am facing issues with data connection... This is what happens:
It works for a while and then just stops receiving data.. the sending data arrow blinks (with HSPDA) but the receiving doesn't. If i turn the data off and on again.. it again works for a while.
To troubleshoot: I flashed the ROM again (full wipe, even at first it was full wipe); nothing changed.> I deleted my APN settings and manually added new settings (VODAFONE), still the same... works for a while and stops.
Then i installed Ordroid ROM... same issue.. tried everything.
This was working perfectly when i got my device and was stock.
i can't say that it's 4.2.2 or anything cause my friends did the same and they don't have issues.
Now need some expert advice as to what went wrong.
p.s.: WiFi works perfectly.
You can try updating the radio firmware as this may be the problem but this may or may not 100% fix it as your case seems isolated (not many other complaints). May just be your carrier upgrading stuff also.
You can try full wiping again. It might fix your data problem.
Heres the link for the radios
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023&page=2317
about halfway down youll find them I just updated to the .24 fw and have seen a slight performance (ATT)
I dont know if you need s-off or not since i am s-off to update these through recovery but even with s-off i couldn't update through adb

Which one should i be choosing?? I am on vodafone india. Also can i just flash through CWM? i am not soff.
I'd try the .24 just since its the newest. I don't know if it will work with S-On since I am s-off. You can give it a try but you can easily set s-off if you need to with revolution. I renamed the zip download to radio.zip and flashed it with twrp so cwm should also work. Just check to make sure theres no problem with putting it on your phone which there should be none and this may fix it since it relates straight to the radio.

Flashed the radio. 24. Let's see results now.
I've got the same issues.... I flash the Rom ARHD 10.1 then back to 9.4 be cause i don't like the 4.2.2 sense rom.
I try to change the radio with the 3 .zip avalaible and nothing change. I'll try to full wipe my one today, and do a factory reset..
ps: excuse my english..

[Q] Am I Bricked? Won't go past lockscreen on Sense Roms, reboots on GE Roms.

Bought a T-Mobile HTC One off a guy (never a good start), who said it was rooted with a GE 4.3 Rom and randomly rebooting. He said it was given to him like that... In my mind, I thought it was probably a bad flash and an easy fix. Wrong.
The Rom was bigixe Android 4.3 JWR66V Google Play Ed. - Rooted/Busybox/Odexed/Deodexed (8/6/13). It didn't necessarily reboot randomly, it would load, you could run it like normal and then it would consistently reboot about 2 minutes after boot. It was rooted, unlocked, CWM recovery, and S-On with HBOOT 1.44.
I then flashed Android Revolution HD 22.0 without any problems, but this time, it would load to the lockscreen and not give me the initial setup. As soon as i unlocked, it would go the HTC screen and freeze for about 3 minutes before rebooting. I tried several Roms, both Sense and GE, and the same thing would happen with each Rom respectively. From here I did everything imaginable: Relock and flash stock, format data, flash firmwares, download RUU's, sideload, RRU zips, downgrade to turn S-OFF...everything.
Still no better than when I started. My question is, did the previous owner have S-OFF and then turned S-ON again with some altered partition or would that have caused a more severe brick? Did I miss something?
Any help is appreciated.
Have you tried the fastboot clear cache command? I know it mainly helps when stuck on the boot logo screen, but there's a chance it may work in your situation as well.
You may also want to try running the RUU found directly on HTC's dev site

I set everything back to stock and ran the RUU downloaded from HTC, tried the erase cache command, still same thing. Thank you for the suggestions though.
That sound messed up, wow....
Since you wiped everything software related, (except the partition structure, you could try to read that out of the phone, and cross check it with another device), it sounds like a hardware problem..
But! If its a hardware problem, why is it then crashing at specific events (eg, lockscreen unlock), and why is the behaviour consistent? THAT points to software.. Possibly try to dump what the system is doing during a crash. Could it be the software that reaches out for some hardware, that then malfunctions, causing the crash? Possibly RAM issues?
Kind Regards

Managed to finally fix the reboots occurring every 3 minutes by flashing this stock GE rom 7_UL_JB43_STOCK_UI_S_Google_WWE_3.06.1700.10. However, I cannot get it to read my SIM and have no service. The baseband and iemi is listed as unknown.
Since the reboot issue was fixed, I tried to go back to stock, but if I run anything other than that GE rom, the same issue continues. Any more thoughts?

[Q] Velocity 4G (VODAP120) boot loop / can't RUU

Hello all,
I'm sorry to interrupt you all, but this is rather important!
I tried to root my girlfriends Velocity 4G which she got with her contract with A1 (austrian carrier).
I already flashed a One S and knew of the complications a root for HTC could bring.
So I tried to get everything together before flashing and then I did it...
Got the bootloader unlocked, installed TWRP and flashed sun_dreams rom.
Don't worry, I wiped all clean and think I did it the right way (already flashed 4 other phones, but samsungs').
But I seem to have missed something as I got in a neverending bootanimation (white background with green htc logo).
I know, that you sometimes have to wait a few minutes, but after about 5 minutes or so, I thought I was stuck on boot loop.
So I rebooted, flashed it again and rebooted and nothing changed.
I then read about the boot.img... So I extracted the boot.img and did a full wipe, then installed it, after that the rom and then (just to be safe) three times again the boot.img.
Rebooted and now I got the reboot loop (white background with green logo, then black, then white background again and so on)
I tried everything and as I was about to give up, read about the final solution: the RUU or PH39IMG.zip.
Now the problem is: I cant get either of them to work. At all. When trying to flash the RUU (with bootloader relocked), the programm says: "ERROR 170: No device connected".
I read about some other people having the same problem, so I tried the solution given to them: go to the first screen, then to your temp data, extract the rom.zip, rename it and flash that one, via putting it on the external sd and booting into bootloader.
Didn't work either: Wrong CID. Same for all RUUs I could find even closely related to my phone.
As I couldn't find the real correct RUU, I tried to cheat and use the goldcard to overgo the cid-problem.
Because I couldn't boot up the Velocity 4G I tried to make one with my own Galaxy S2, which worked.
Seems to be the wrong way, since it's the wrong CID anyways, when trying to install the PH39IMG (still all RUUs say ERROR 170).
I might need to mention I didn't do the S-OFF thing, as I didn#t want to mess with the hardware... Is that necessary for my problem to getting fixed?
Maybe I just need the one correct RUU for my model, but I can't find it anywhere!
please help me somebody, as I feel very guilty because of wrecking my girlfriends phone! :crying:
any help is appreciated!!!
greetings

OK... Vodafone is still on gingerbread...
Soooo... You need a gingerbread ROM... And a gingerbread boot.img... Then get it to boot...
After that I would s-off, super cid, get to ICS hboot... Then flash the ROM of your choice

So far so good... but where do I get it from?
I have this one:
RUU_HOLIDAY_SENSE3_5_Vodafone_DE_2.38.162.1_Radio_3.02.4740.09_34.20.701040.19_release_241518_signed
But this one won't work either...
What complicates the search, is that this phone goes by so many different names (vivid, velocity, holiday, raider, etc...)
Should I post a getvar all?
Concerning your further steps: I would be very happy to get it to run at all, maybe then think of reflashing something.
I don't know if I manage that s-off thing and I don't want to hard brick it and give it the final punch...
anyways, thanks for the fast response!

I already did that with all the RUUs I found, but none worked...
EDIT: so I tried a solution offered by another poster in another forum which said to install CM10 on a clean wipe.
did that and it booted in the cm boot screen and loads the "first install wizard"... well, at least to the language selection screen, then it freezes and reboots again.
but at least we bought us some time at the start.

Its because of a wrong hboot...
It will happen with all of the ICS+ ROMs...
I wish you hadn't relocked your bootloader...
Can you reunlock...
Iirc there is a thread with hboot updated... Maybe try that... Or download the Wcxroot thingy and flash the juopenut hboot...

so, you're basically saying i might be able to get it to work without any RUUs or PH39IMGs?
Wow, that would be good news at last.
I already reunlocked before i flashed the CM10 rom and i didn't forget to flash the boot.img afterwards and even went back again to recovery to wipe cache and dalvik and fixed permissions.
Which one should i try?
thank you for your help!! :good:
is updating the hboot even possible without s-off?
so it seems i have to obtain s-off to flash anything else than stock rom...
as far as i read you have to be on stock ruu to obtain s-off, is that correct?
because that would be bad, as i don't have the stock ruu for my phone.
is it possible to acquire s-off without being on stock rom and would it be possible with the state my phone is in?

i already wrote a pm. do you have any ideas left? maybe try and install a gb rom and then try that ruu again?
ps: i did manage to start the ruu.exe (by reinstalling the htc sync) and it stopped with the error 131. installing the rom.zip (or PH39IMG.zip) still won't work as it says customer id check failed...

Okay, so I did manage to fix it, as it seems...
This is what I did:
1. reunlocked bootloader
2. installed TWRP and booted into recovery
3. mounted the internal SD as mass storage
4. copied over VJRaiders GB rom
5. did a full wipe
6. installed VJRaiders rom
7. rebooted into bootloader
8. fastboot flashed the kernel found in the rom thread (twice)
9. rebooted and it worked...
I don't know how and why, but the problem seemed to be that I always tried to flash non-GB roms. As simple as that.
I have no idea why the RUU and PH39IMG didn't work tho...
Well. I won't touch that thing for a looong time, as it works and I had enough problems getting there!
The reason that you had problems with ics and upward roms is because your phone still has the gb hboot. This is because boss never released the ics update. To install ics roms you need the ics hboot.

Which I'm only able to attain with s-off, am I right?
Correct, I believe. If you didn't get an official update to ICS, you'll have to S-Off. It's honestly not as bad as it sounds, I did mine with some speaker wire...probably the worst part of it is getting the cover off of the section where you have to ground out the point. Just take your time, and make sure you're in a well lit area, with a little bit of working space, and you'll be fine.
well, the problem is, that we are not longer on a stock rom and can't seem to flash the original ruu, as we don't find it anywhere...
and as far as i know it is not recommended or possible to go s-off without being on stock rom!?
AFAIK it is UNTESTED... Not impossible
Sent from my Vivid 4G using Tapatalk
If this is anything like other HTC devices, i'd say your best shot if you're willing to try an untested idea, would be to give it a shot with a sense rom, as they tend to be (under the hood anyways) a lot closer to stock than non sense roms.

[Q] Help with random reboot issue, and general stability

ok, so i rooted my htc one to stock, using an ruu that was suggested by a user on here last weekend. it all seemed good, but on sunday, while i was working my phone rebooted itself, for no reason, however i thought it might have been because of a root app i had installed. i had to put it in recovery mode, and wait until i was off work to fix it, by reflashing it(i hadnt had a chance to make a backup in twrp). well i now have a backup of my phone, so yay, but and it hadnt forced a reboot until just now. the thing is it had been good all day today, and i had tried installing the MIUI Rom following a thread on here. the rom worked and all, but it also had issues such as data not wanting to connect, freezing up etc, so i went and returned to my backup i made today(when everything was perfect) and i made a phone call, and after the call the phone rebooted. and its back to its old ways. im restoring again to see if it helps, but does anyone know why it does that?
when my phone did that it was cause I had the unknown baseband issue. Could be worth a try to see if thats your issue.

ok, so i rooted my htc one to stock, using an ruu that was suggested by a user on here last weekend. it all seemed good, but on sunday, while i was working my phone rebooted itself, for no reason, however i thought it might have been because of a root app i had installed. i had to put it in recovery mode, and wait until i was off work to fix it, by reflashing it(i hadnt had a chance to make a backup in twrp). well i now have a backup of my phone, so yay, but and it hadnt forced a reboot until just now. the thing is it had been good all day today, and i had tried installing the MIUI Rom following a thread on here. the rom worked and all, but it also had issues such as data not wanting to connect, freezing up etc, so i went and returned to my backup i made today(when everything was perfect) and i made a phone call, and after the call the phone rebooted. and its back to its old ways. im restoring again to see if it helps, but does anyone know why it does that?

Link to the MIUI ROM? Only install ROMs that you see in the Sprint HTC One section, not in the International HTC One section. Try flashing the latest radio to fix the phone call problem.
If that root app was SuperSU, then flash this zip.

the rom i use is from the sprint htc one m7 forums, it worked and i was able to make a call, but the screen hung alot and my buttons became unresponsive due to the assist thingy. upon a restart, i didnt have data connections. im kind of nervous about messing with my radio, because even though my signal sucks where i live, i dont want to mess up and not have a signal. i updated the SuperSU (i was using 1.87 and i flashed it to 2.02) hopefully i see no issues, but it usually takes a day and a half.

Flashing radio is your best bet. Verify the md5 before flashing and you'll be fine.

[Q] HTC One M7 Developer Edition WiFi issues (3G works fine)

I've bought the HTC One Developer Edition in the first 2 months they released so I went S-OFF with the first method which stopped working after whatever update.
I've been using ARHD ROM since then and manually flashing the baseband. I've had an issue with WiFi for a long time, but I can't handle it anymore.
The problem is, some websites fail to load on WiFi. For example, going to amazon.com works, but when I try to log in, it never laods. The amazon app doesnt work or login in with browser. If I turn WiFi off, however, it works. I checked to see if it was my Router, but it isnt. My brother's phone logs in fine. Same goes with WhatsApp, I can't send pictures while on WiFi, but using 3G data, I can.
My only theory is maybe I've skipped some baseband upgrading which failed to upgrade some important incremental radio or something.
Any ideas?

try the developers edition 6.x.1540.x firmware it works excellent for me
Thanks will try that when I get home. I am even contemplating restoring back to stock and doing all updates while stock, but I am not sure if I will be able to S-OFF if I do that.

Ok, I am back home. I cant find the firmware you speak of. The ones I've been flashing are the NoWipe ZIPs on Sneakyghost's forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316726&nocache=1 Download links found: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LQDLpVZYyUpXPgC2sh1BvAS9Oo8B-fTiZU_JhpIH-fU/pubhtml
They come with TWRP also. I've never flashed a baseband that wipes phone just NoWipe modified Zips.
I am on 5.11.401.10, download links show two newer ones, 6.06.401.1 and 6.09.401.5
