[Q] Play Store Sales Tax - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I notice here (https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2850368?hl=en) they list all the states that they collect sales tax in. How far into the order of a device can you get where it tells you how much the tax will be but before you actually click the final submit button. I tried to go to a random device and click buy and it says " Tax and shipping will be calculated at checkout. " And then when I click "Proceed to checkout" it wants me to type in my address and credit card number. I don't want at that point for the purchase to go through though. Is there a final confirmation page after that where it shows the final price with tax before you hit the final submit button?

just estimate your general sales tax, its usually abit less but if you add in the percentage that you normally get taxed at stores, then you for sure have enough money on hand for the order. shipping is 18.99 for one day

Well for my state it says "select cities"... so I'm trying to decide if they are actually going to charge tax vs not charge it and then pick ordering from google or my carrier.

Bought a phone on eBay, still havn't received it... (need advice)

Payment was completed on August 30, shipping label was apparently printed on September 10 (according to tracking number) and I still havn't received it.
This is the item, I live in Quebec, Canada. My tracking number says this:
Label/Receipt Number: CV00 5036 863U S
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received
The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on September 10, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

It has been 26 working days since the payment was completed and 17 since the shipping label was printed. Should I mark it as not received or should I wait?
After 2 weeks you can file a dispute with PayPal, I'd do that if I were you. Contact the seller and let him know, give him a chance to get it to you within a reasonable amount of time from now, and if he does mark the dispute as resolved. A month is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for an item, I would've filed a complaint a long time ago.
how did you pay for the item? credit card, bank card..
I paid with PayPal and just filed a dispute. Thankfully he told me he would cooperate.

Perfect, once you get the item just mark the dispute with PayPal as "resolved" and it won't go against either of you. I like doing this instead of just contacting (especially after an entire month) because it gives a little nudge that lets him know you really want your item.

Some people just Fail (like me)
I never sell on ebay, because I am scared I will forget to post stuff out and end up in ****. Normal letters take 3-4 weeks for me to post, important ones 1-2, birthday cards just don't get sent

And then he posted this in the dispute:
I completely understand buyers concern, for some reason the USPS has not delivered the package. When I contacted USPS they told me that there might be a hold at the customs. Anyway I will contact them again tomorrow and see what will they say.

LOL mysteriously you will get your shipment...5 bucks says there will be something wrong with it.
Check your tracking number now, does it say shipped or still electronic shipping info received? If it still doesn't say shipped, but he's claiming it has been shipped, call PayPal and tell them what's up. The number is 1-888-221-1161, but you have to go to paypal.com and click "contact us", then "by phone" to get a special PIN to use.
Edit: Just checked it myself, still says electronic shipping info received. This means he has not yet delivered the package to USPS, just printed out a shipping label through PayPal.

That's what I'm thinking too. He said he was going to look tomorrow (which is today). He's in another time zone so I'll make a claim tomorrow.
Maybe he didn't want a price this low?

Yeah, stuff like that happens... But if you go through with the dispute and give him bad feedback, that's the best you can do.
I escalated it to a claim, we'll see what happens.

Taxes on the Android Market?

I went to purchase an app today which was $.99. But at Google check out it added $.07 for taxes. I was a little confused because I dont remember paying any taxes on any other of my apps I have bought. I went and looked at my Google Checkout to make sure and I was right. All my apps I ever bought were never taxed. So is it certain apps/devs that get taxed or was it something just added? Do the devs get the tax or a % of it?
What state do you live in? What state does the developer trade from? Are they the same?

Nope, far from it lol.
My app sells for £1.50 on the market, but google takes off 45p each sale.
Butt yeah, i think some countries might tax the currency conversion or something, i dunno.
it basicly depends where you are. i dnt get taxed most of the time for online orders but i know other states that do tax that sort of thing
In my case I am taxed 1€ for each transaction done in $ ....
But this is not a Google Checkout tax, but from my bank card (french visa, Societe Generale).
(Though I have not such problem with Paypal... I think paypal does the convertion itself, so my card is always debited in €)

Canada Nexus one US

Hey,
I live in Toronto, Canada, I went on the google website to buy the nexus one, and the price it gives me for the phone including shipping is $556 US dollars.
In the shipping policy section it says your respective province/country might charge you the taxes at the time of delivery. My question is will I get charged taxes at the time I pick up my package? I have ordered stuff online from the states before and I have not been charged tax for those items or any extra fees on top of what I payed at the time of purchase (I ordered 60 dollars worth of clothing before).
As a little experiment I changed my shipping address from Canada to my friends address in the states, and the price is identical. Is the 556 US dollars the FINAL price americans/canadians pay for the phone?
Thanks for all your help.
I paid 529.00 in total, so I think you might be getting pinged with the taxes up front?
It should have it broken down in the final checkout screen! But try here they have a contact number also so you can always give them a call to see, best of luck to you...

haha thats messed up, after experimenting with the states address, I no longer get charged for shipping but instead I get charged US dollar tax, lol and it comes out to be 10 dollars more, $566. I dont know how you got away without paying tax or any shipping. Lucky you
Now I dont know whether to risk getting it shipped to Canada for 556 and end up paying tax on it at the time of pick up. Or to ship it to the states and pay 10 dollars more for tax? Darn taxes.
Thanks for the quick reply eh.

Oh DAMN, I guess I would save that 80 dollars by shipping it to the states right? I am planning on going to my friends place in 2 weeks.
Now one more confusion, when I select a states address for shipping, I get a choice between fedex ground, 2nd day air, and overnight. What doesnt make sense is that picking fedex 2nd day air charges 5 dollars extra, but picking fedex overnight or fedex ground doesnt charge any extra. Shouldnt fedex overnight charge the most for shipping?
Thanks for your help and your quick reply.
Yes, you will have to pay GST, a broker fee, and in your case PST to the courier before they will hand over the package to you. If you're looking for a way to escape the PST you might try and move to Alberta. We don't have any!

haha lucky Albertans , I hate this damn province (ontario) paying the highest PST from all of Canada, and we still get **** services.
But ya I guess to avoid paying extra fees of shipping AND taxes at the time of pick up, I'll get it shipped to the states and pick it up from my friends place in 2 weeks.

Be sure that you do NOT buy the "rogers compatible" one.
Get the one that is tmobile/wind -- it will still work on robbers, just be stuck to 2G, plus in addition, it will be compatible with wind and moblicity/dave.
With robbers data charges (being robbery) it is hard to justify data on their service anyways.
Or just phone up Fido and ask for the $30/month 6GB plan. I actually bargained them down to $20/month for the 6GB.
As for picking it up in the states, you can save money that way as long as you are willing to lie to border patrol and say you didn't buy anything.
I got charged almost 90 dollars by the delivery man for customs charges.....so add that to your total cost.
I live in SW Ontario btw....
Well if he is on Fido he should get the rogers compatible device unless he is planning on making the switch to Wind.
Is the 6GB plan back? was taken away months ago, its why i haven't left rogers, since I know I won't get it back.
And yes grabbing it from your friend is the best option.
Duplicate post. Sorry.
Yeah, the 6GB plan is back. But not advertised. They brought it back to offer people who want to go to Wind. If you are patient enough, or lucky enough to get the right person you can get the deal you want.

Depends on the state. You won't get charged by Google for tax in some states.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I guess I will go pick it up from the states
I shipped to Canada and the overall cost of my nexus was $650.

Pricing ? I'm buying (Canada) ... $550 new & blue :)

EDIT: Bought. See Post 2.
I think I'm going to get an N7000, for testing my FM app (see sig), and because the Note seems to be an awesome device, one of the few to support FM recording.
I've looked in the XDA Marketplace, and some other places, and see used prices bottoming out in the $500+ range.
But why buy used when I can get one from Amazon, or better for me in Canada, Newegg, for $580 Canadian shipped: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875176317 ($560 in the US). ???
Newegg seems to offer a 90 day warranty via Brainstorm.
There's also a company in Italy selling on Ebay at $570, but Newegg is my choice, even if some other company is selling for $20-30 cheaper.
Is there anything I'm missing here ? Any reason not to buy from NewEgg ?
Thanks !
====================
(And my FM app is now working on CM9 and some other ICS ROMs for the SGS2 and reported working on Note now too, with a glitch or 2 until I get my Note and fix.)
I just KNEW this would happen, LOL. I put a price alert for $550 (was at $580 Canadian), on the theory that it might be like "make us an offer", LOL.
Sometimes Newegg sales just disappear & I get dissappointed. I thought, maybe Monday price will go down. But I decided to do it Sunday night, and strangely my credit card transaction didn't seem to get verified: "The connection was reset".
My message to Newegg chat:
Hi,
I requested a Price Alert. I placed my order just hours ago, and the credit card transaction did not appear to complete.
Now I've received the Price Alert. I would like you to cancel my original order, or modify it to the new lower price please.
Thanks !
Sophie: Thank you for holding. Please kindly note that we do not offer any sort of price protection. Due to the constant fluctuation of prices in this industry, the cost of our inventory is changing regularly. Items costs on our website reflect this, as they are adjusted daily and price in Newegg.com is in real time.
Sophie: However, I will issue a $30.00 credit as a one time exception for the price drop when your order is shipped and invoiced. Please note that we are unable to apply a credit to an order that has not been invoiced. Once the credit is issued, it will take 3-5 business days for the credit to be processed into your original payment method.

That's US $224. Do you have a URL ?
I doubt it's real. IMO likely a chinese knockoff that looks similar but doesn't have the same internals or software.
BTW, My Newegg Note arrived today in a box with "May contain awesome" on the side, LOL.
Canada Post left it in a box on my porch while I slept, per the note I left requesting same.
The earphone to jack connection seems a little off. I don't like a white earphone with a black Note. Otherwise, awesome so far !
And the Newegg $30 credit is now confirmed, for my "goodwill, missed the price drop by a few hours" experience.
That good price. I paid $700 for mine two month ago.lol

Question to the guys who already pre-ordered at tmobile

1) Are you going to be able to pick up at the store with the pre-order because when i went to the store they said they will only ship it to you
2) If they are shipping to you, did they charge you a shipping fee?
3) When you traded in your phone did they say it'll be deferred trade in, meaning you are responsible for trading it in via mail? or did they do the trade in immediately for you and you traded it in on the spot?
I ask these questions because it sounds like to me that when you pre-order in store, they basically is just ordering it for you online for you and print you out the same documents that you can just print out yourself if you ordered it online yourself.
The note 4 will come to my house. I ship back my note 3 in the box they provide. Just like a warranty phone. They didn't charge me shipping.

Yes, they charged me 6.99 for shipping.
Also note even if you finance it (EIP) you still pay the tax up front.
So I had 45.41 in tax and 6.99 in shipping for total upfront of 52.40.

As I was signing up for new service, I decided to do it in store.
I'm not sure about the trade-in with the preorder at the same time.
But I assume you can do that online.
My receipt for this looks like a printed website. Though it is from handsetorder.internal.t-mobile.com so I assume it isn't a customer facing site.
I'm a new customer and ordered online on 9/24. All I got was the signed EIP email and another one saying they received my order, with only my name, order number, date and time of order, and a number that looks like the amount due, but it doesn't even have dollar sign.
The temporary charge has now disappeared from my credit card, so I hope everything is still okay and on track.

UPS, and if you have myUPS, then I think you can.
Exactly, have to be a myups member. I love that feature cause the center is right down the street from me but my regular driver doesn't stop here till the end of his route... so by having them hold it, I can pick up my packages at 9am instead.
