I know there's only so much you guys can do since I'm on USCC's network. I liked the amount of dev support you guys get, and can run these ROMs to an extent. I can't send text messages. I can receive, and have 4G internet access, along with Wi-Fi. I've updated my build prop, replaced the apns-config.xml, used the stocked messaging app, and updated my PLR. Any other suggestions please?

Hello there. At&t user here. I have been using at&t for a while and can't switch carriers, and was wondering if anyone could solve this dilemma for me.
I need long messages to get merged to one message for the recipient, which would probably best be suited by having them converted to mms.
I was wondering if the moto x has this feature, as it is the one phone I am looking at on at&t, or if anyone knows an app that can do this, and if I could install this on the moto x unrooted.
Handcent for example, merges them into one and converts to mms, but it needs the sms to be at least 3 sms's long before it does that, so that ones that are between 160-320 characters still get split. I know that gosms doesn't allow this either. This is work-related, so if anyone could help me I would be forever thankful.

I have a stock, unrooted moto x on verizon, but I imagine the settings in the stock messaging app would be the same. There is an option to use MMS for Group Messaging that states "Use MMS to send a single message when there are multiple recipients". Maybe just adding your own number along with the intended recipient's and sending the long message as a group message would be an easy fix? SImilar to copying yourself in on an email.
Edit: Just tested this idea and it works. I sent a long message to myself and another recipient and it automatically sent as a single MMS. Did not receive split messages on either phone, so this could be a workaround for you.
I keep getting group txt from people where I don't see anyone else, like it's coming from one person, so when I reply only one person gets the response.
I updated to the latest AndroidRevolution HD Rom 70.xxx. I have enabled group texting in my texting menu. Any idea what else I can try? I've only ever had android I never came from an Apple device.
Thanks

Well group messaging use MMS to transfer data so if your APN is not correctly configured for your carrier you will have issue. Check that your APN settings matches those provided by your carrier (can normally be found on their website) Settings ---> mobile data ---> Acces point Names ---> ''your apn''
Also, using apps like AdBlockPlus to block adds will also block MMS so group messaging.
Since updating to Lollipop earlier this week Google Messenger has lost the ability to receive MMS messages. On Jelly Bean I was able to change the APN and receive them sporadically, but now they don't come in at all, they just say "downloading" and stay that way. The APN setting is no longer in the Messenger menu. I can find it in the mobile data settings menu, but it is greyed out. Has anyone experienced this? I Googled for a solution, but found nothing helpful yet.
Thanks in advance.
Well... If it makes you feel any better, I had similar issues. After switching to a lollipop ROM. I couldn't send or receive texts (SMS) but group and pics would go through (MMS). I searched and asked for days, tried to learn about APN's, made changes, gave up. Borrowed my daughter's old iPhone (hate it) until my contract is up in April. Then it'll be Verizon for me with either the M9 or N6. Wish you luck. If you come up with a solution, please post it. I would really like to have my M8 available for resale.
I've switched to Textra, which is similar to Messenger in enough ways that I'm good for now. If/when Messenger is updated next, I hope it'll work well enough to switch back to.
Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I had the issue with a replacement M7. MMS wouldn't send or download. The APN MMSC setting in the stock Messages app was "(not set)" and there is no way to set it.
I ended up using 8sms for texts and mms. I just flashed Lollipop from Kitkat and it's still the same.
Hi all,
I finally received my note 8 yesterday. I have the unlocked version on cricket wireless network (att). Everything on my phone is working fine EXCEPT my group messages. They are coming in separate. I do not mind using a texting app but I found recently that Textra is having problems- so I'm trying to avoid using a texting app.
All advice is needed and welcomed. Thank you.
If I understand correctly, I am having the opposite problem. I set up a group to send messages to and everyone sees all the replies - they want my texts, but only want me (and 1-3 specific other people, if only that were possible) to see if anyone replies. I'm using Message+ and can't find a setting to change that... if I understand this correctly as well, I think they are sending MMS and I want them to send SMS so only I see the replies. I have have tried other apps but they either limit contacts to 20, or everyone has to have that app, etc. Is Textra still having problems? Maybe I'll check that out.
My phone is a dual-sim version from Austraila (XQ-AT52). I'm in the US.
As I was setting up my phone, and before I installed the ATT sim card, the native google text message app showed the ability to use MMS for Group chats. As soon as I put the sim in, that option disappears from the menu.
Now, in the group texts ported over from my old Sony, I get a note right in the message sequence saying that all messages will be sent to each person in the group individually, and by SMS not MMS.
It seems like this might be a function of this build not being a US build, and that somehow there's a firmware difference where the single Sim, non 5G phones in the US (and maybe Taiwan) doesn't have the issue.
I'm using a third party app called Textra, and it's working okay, but I'd really like to get back to the native Google App with full group text functionality. I'm not sure if it's an ATT issue (given the option exists until I plug in the ATT sim card) or if it's a build issue, and I need to modify the phone.
Help!

Try clearing data and cache in the message app

How did you buy one from Australia? They don't sell them there. Also try putting the ATT sim in the second sim slot.
Cheers, Ben
Anyone have any solutions/suggestions? I have the same model (XQ-AT52) and am in Canada and it does not have the group MMS option in Advanced settings. Is this basically a build issue?
Gonna bump this old thread. Anyone ever find a fix? XQ-AT52 here on ATT in the US also no group messaging in Google messages either, and Textra is pretty awful...

That might be a problem with the carrier
Fixed it. used Newflasher and replaced my HK firmware with TW firmwarre, and replaced the oem_cust files from that, with the US firmware files, and now group messaging in android messages works.
Just because I'm curious; why do you still use MMS?
