Here are my thoughts on the Nexus 5:
http://smartphoneblogging.com/2014/01/review-nexus-5-hardware-impressions/
Overall a great Device but I can't help feeling that the Nexus 4 was higher quality when it was released. Even without LTE, but at least the buttons weren't wobbly and the curved display was perfect...
no loose buttons here on my nexus 5, nor on my nexus 4. and the display on the n5 is better than the n4, much. build quality wise, n5 is better than the n4. and your link isnt good(even though, maybe a little late out of the gate for a nexus 5 review?).

I agree with the tapered/"curved display". I loved how the screen felt on the N4. It was reminiscent of my G2x back in the day. Although the N4 is a little more visually appealing, I wouldn't say the design quality was better.
I absolutely hated the "chrome" imitation bezel that would scratch/fade after a while. I loved the glass back but hated it because it always had me on edge whenever I'd put my phone down not knowing if it would crack or scratch.
I read in your blog that you said the N4 feels easier to hold than the N5. I beg to differ. The N4 had a flat back and flat sides (with the exception of the screen being tapered) which made it annoying to hold after long periods of time. The N5 back is slightly curved and its lighter so it feels so good in the hand compared to my N4.
I do admit once again that the N4 has a beautiful design minus the imitation chrome. Whenever I would whip my phone out in public people would always ask what it was because of the glass back but I'm glad LG/Google got rid of the design because now I'm not scared at all to put my phone on a table or scared that it would slide off my lap.

My Nexus 4 doesn't have any issues with the buttons but the first batch of nexus 5 devices had wobbly buttons. And when you shake the phone you can even hear the buttons.
To me the Nexus 4 build just feels better. I'm not a fan of the hard edges of the Nexus 5.
And yes I'm pretty late with this review because I'm writing on my spare time which isn't that much because of work and family.
The good thing is that I have used the Nexus 5 for months now and this helps finding weaknesses you wouldn't see in a few days.
BTW: the link works for me, do you get an URL error?

Of course a lot of this is a matter of taste, but the sides of the Nexus 4 are not flat, they are angled. And it's a rubber like material. I agree about the chrome imitation, the nexus 4 would have looked much cooler without it.
I'm pretty happy with the Nexus 5, but I would love to see the tapered screen again with a soft rubber back like the Nexus 5.

The nexus 5 isn't being built in batches. They're built 24/7 continuously and there have been no hardware revisions yet.
My Nexus 5 was one of the first to roll off the production line and does not have wobbly buttons. Some have, some haven't. Its as simple as that

Nearly every tech blog wrote about the revision.
Here is one example:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/...th-larger-speaker-holes-and-improved-buttons/
Google 'Nexus 5 revision' and you will get a lot of results...but of course this doesn't mean that all previous ones where faulty. It's just that my Nexus 5 buttons and the ones of three of my colleagues have this issue so I think it should be mentioned in a review.
Having had both phones I think it's probably fair to say the nexus 4 felt of a higher quality. I remember when I first had it, it screamed really high quality, glass back and everything, something to rival the iphone and HTC one. The nexus 5 doesn't scream quality but nor does it scream cheap, it's certainly above average but not in the league with the phones I mentioned before. The quality is is similar to that of the HTC one X, which is still high quality design in my books.

I know exactly what N4 looks like since I had 2 of them. But I meant the sides weren't exactly squared but for some reason it felt like I was holding a rectangle. Maybe its because the back of it was flat instead of rounded on my N5.
Either way it still is both a good looking and a fast device. My main gripe with it was the speaker. It was so damn quiet! I hated it!

This it a perfect example of a viral rumor. Here's a (sole) XDA member posting a forum entry about his particular observation -- in itself that is quite fine. But the entry draws out rather unlikely conclusions which were then run unchecked on click-hungry blog after blog and site after site, all the while gaining a sheen of unearned credibility. This story has been pretty well debunked (rootSU has done yeoman's work here!) yet it continues to trundle on. All we actually know at this point is that there are some very minor, insignificant variations that are probably due to which particular assembly line a piece came through. Nothing indicates that there was a specific manufacturing change - in fact the opposite is supported as we have reports of speaker hole size variations and rattling/non-rattling buttons from devices manufactured at any point in the so-far ~2-month life of this phone.
If anyone really wants to put stock in this story of hardware revisions please do some research and find a credible source to corroborate. But, make sure that this corroborative source is not itself rooted in the very same XDA forum post.
For whatever it's worth - and it shouldn't be worth much, my first-gen N5 arrived with rock-solid, absolutely unrattling buttons.

I think in the end of the day it doesn't really matter if there was a revision or not. For the customer it's important to know that there might be problems with the buttons when getting a Nexus 5.

Same here. Mine was ordered on launch day, and while the buttons are slightly loose, it doesn't have any of the other build issues people have complained about. Obviously not all of them are faulty, just some of them, and if you read the RMA thread, you'll see that people are even receiving units with later build dates that are still faulty. There have been no hardware revisions, only differences between assembly which I guess are permissible by LG's quality control.

It's fair enough to discuss some number of people complaining of rattling buttons, but it's distracting to assign the issue to a particular build. This incorrectly orients people to aim for certain serial numbers (incorrectly identified as hardware revision numbers) and starts a wave of uncalled for RMAs. A significant problem that impacts the use & enjoyment of the device is reason to request an RMA, but the viral ghost of some unsubstantiated hardware revision is not. The hardware revision story is a distraction that clouds our ability to accurately judge the status of the hardware we do have. Like all tales that rise from the bowels of the Internet it should not be granted credence without doing some due diligence. If there is any point to discussing details about the device then we should be focusing on facts & fixes, rather than letting the attention drift to various fantasias out there.

I'm literally new to the N5 (just received mine Friday) so please excuse my ignorance, but I thought they did a speaker and mic revision (made the holes bigger).
Either way the buttons are slightly wobbly but not enough for me to go through RMA. I think most people are just nitpicking. I see it every time in every forum I've been in. There's always a group that seems to not be happy.
If they want perfection then they should get a flip phone. With its limited features there shouldn't be much to complain about right?

That was a rumor that spread around here like wildfire, but as it turns out, these are just tolerable variances between different assembly lines, nothing more. There is only one official revision, revision 11.
So as the title says I am having a tough time figuring out what I want. Just looking for some input on why you guys chose this phone over others?
Unless the new Nexus is only 5in, has better camera or is MUCH cheaper I see no reason to get it over the X.
Depends on what the screen size is on the new Nexus. If it's 6 inches then I might opt for the X.
If it's as big as the pics that are leaked then definitely the X. I'm typing this with my Nexus 7 and it's not much bigger than the new nexus. Way to big for a phone.

Considering the 5 retailed for $350 out of the box, and this at $450, most likely, the new Nexus will be cheaper (unless they do actually release a gigantic phablet). Also, the N5 came with wireless charging, which is an awesome feature that the X2 is missing. I believe there have also been rumors of a qHD display as well as 3GB RAM and a much larger battery. Of course, most of that speculation would be based on the 5.92" screen, which is just ridiculous (in terms of size).

None of which really would appeal to me unless I was looking at the Note.
I think you misunderstood... I'm saying that if it comes with those specs in something like a 5.2" housing, that would be amazing. I don't want a bigger phone either, my old 5.5" was too unwieldy, 5.9" is just impractical.
If you did understand, then I don't know what you want in a phone. Because if a better quality, higher resolution display, more RAM, a larger battery, wireless charging(, for possibly a cheaper price) don't appeal to you, then I don't know what else would set apart a phone with an almost identical OS.
I'm waiting to see what Google announces before I do anything. The first 2 weeks of October should allow me to make a decision since Google is expected to announce something mid-October. I'm also interested to hear what Sony announces in early October with the Z3. Along with the X, those are the 3 phones I have my eye on going forward.
I'm interested to see about the Droid Turbo, Nexus and Z3.

Don't be so easy to dismiss it. 57% of Apple users are choosing the iPhone 6 Plus which is 158.1mm tall, instead of the 4.7" iPhone6. These people are coming from a 3.5" screen and more recently a 4" screen and they are picking a massive 158.1mm 5.5" phone by the 10s of millions. So Android users that for years have been using 4.7" to 5" phones, a possible new Nexus phone that will be about the same size as the iPhone 6 Plus (remember Apple has no choice but to have that fugly bezel on the bottom and a symmetrical one on the top) should be no problem and a much smaller size difference than what 10s of millions of Apple users are going for. If you don't want it that's fine. But just like the 10s of millions of the users that are choosing the iBend6 Plus, you will be in the minority.

If you don't need a new phone right this second, I can't see why you wouldn't just wait until the new Nexus device comes out. Then you can compare two devices that you actually know what they are, rather than comparing a device that exists, with a device about which there are only leaks, rumors, and speculation. That kind of doesn't make any sense.
In any case, that's what I'm doing. I want to see what the next Nexus device is like first.
Besides, some rumors suggest the new Nexus device will be announced in two weeks. If not, it will still probably be sometime in the next couple months. Doesn't seem like a big deal to wait.

Where are you getting this info? Almost everything I've read shows that the iPhone 6 is outselling the 6+ as much as over 4 to 1 in some places.
I would agree to try something out before dismissing it. But after handling a Note 3 and briefly owning an OPPO Find 7a, I can say, that, unless the Nexus manages to be the same dimensions or smaller than my G2 was, I won't be picking up an N6.

I truly believe that this is not a good indicator of how the phone/tablet/phablet market will trend. It's an Apple product, people will buy it regardless of what it is because it's new and it's by Apple. Period.
Well, now you know: This is the Motorola Nexus 6
Title says it all: so am I missing something? The n6 just isn't much different in real world use as I have n4 with Nexus 5 experience rom L5.02. The camera is slow and in use over holiday no better than n4. Defaulted to wife's iphone 5s instead.
Screen size is nice and I have big hands, but balance is off and phone too heavy it seems, though was getting used to it.
Nonetheless, called google to return it - going back Monday.
Any thoughts?
Dave

Wait, do you mean Note 4 or Nexus 4?
Nexus 4. I hear you all, just don't see n6 as much of a "real world" upgrade over the n4. I've drooled over this phone since it was leaked as shamu. Always wanted and needed larger screen. This is about 45 grams heavier and girth is unbalanced, always feel like I am about to drop it. So just can't justify it all things considered.
But thanks for thoughts.
BTW, I will have 3 useless cases now.
And researched the heck out of it. Fully aware of the great specs, they haven't translated into much of a difference. I was hoping opinions would show me something new, or that maybe I have a bad version. Mine is blue, 32.
I came to a Nexus 6 from the Nexus 4 I've been using since it was originally released and I honestly don't know what you're smoking.

Using a phone with Nexus 4's specs these days is perfectly fine. Millions of iPhone 6 users can't be wrong.
I can see the point of the OP in terms of size and handling. They are two completely different animals. I have an N4 with a broken sim slot so I keep it on the charger next to my bed and use it as a Wi-Fi device. When sitting next to my N6, I usually grab the N4 for many tasks like typing because it feels so perfect in the hand.
The N6 is a majestic phone that blows the N4 away on so many levels, but if handling is high on the list of priorities which is sounds like it is for the OP, I can understand. Also the N4 screen has whiter whites which I prefer. I'm just saying that it isn't as crazy as it sounds depending on what you value.

And I gave in and have decided to keep phone!
Hey everyone, this is my first post so if I'm not posting in the correct area, I apologize for that.
For the past two+ years I've been using verizon's HTC One M7. It's been a great phone save for the fact that it's exceedingly difficult to debloat. This particular model is loaded down with verizon crapware and there's no easy way to root/unlock the bootloader. I digress
I'm in the market for a new phone. I've decided to ditch my carrier's phones and go unlocked. I want a stock android experience that isn't too locked down by the OEM, so I've opted to get a nexus device.
I'm torn as to whether or not I should get the Nexus 6 right now or wait another month or so for the Nexus 6p. As well as my M7 has served me, it is beginning to show it's age, I'm really hankering to get a new device asap. Part of me says that the 6P is only a marginal upgrade from the 6, and is 150 more expensive for the 64gb model so I wouldn't be losing much by getting it. The other part of me says that I've been using this phone for over two years, and another month won't kill me.
Anyway, I'm looking for input. I'd be more confident getting a Nexus 6 but the demo model I played with had this sickeningly salmon-tinted screen that was also visibly more dim than the panel on my M7. I've heard it's a "feature" but it seems more like a defect to me. I've heard the pinkness only shows up in some models, as does burn on imaging, but I really would have to hate to send the phone in to get it fixed. Anyone have any experience with the salmon colored screens on the Nexus 6?
Edit: After a bit of research, I've heard that burn in images are more common in AMOLED displays, so I'm worried this problem may be carried over the the 6P. This doesn't make much sense because I haven't heard of this issue occurring in other devices using AMOLED displays such as those put out by Samsung. Could this be a Motorola AMOLED problem, or is this something all AMOLED screens are subject to?
Anyone here have any input? Thanks.
As an owner of the original Nexus 6 I personally don't think it is worth the extra money to go to the Nexus 6P. The minimal gains with the 6P are offset by the losses that you get from the original Nexus 6. For the difference in price I would go to the Nexus 6 and wait until next year to see if the upgrade is a better deal than what you can get this year.

That's my train of thought, thanks for the input man.
How has your experience been with the screen? I've seen firsthand just how bad it can be worst case scenario, but are burn on images and pink screens really that common?

My experience with the screen has been great. I haven't had any burn-in problems and no pink screens. I am really satisfied with the display of the original Nexus 6.
The AMOLED screen is sourced from Samsung by Motorola, if I remember correctly. Any concerns with tinting can be easily ameliorated with a custom kernel. (I'm biased towards a warm color temperature as i like cinema calibrations on all my devices, monitors included, and even I made this screen's color temperature more neutral)
As for the 6P, I would read how Qualcomm solved the 810's overheating issue with "version 2.1" - - by underclocking and then neutering the excess cores with thermal strangling. Octacore? Ha! Is it really 8 cores if you can only ever use 4? (only a mild exaggeration on my part)
I had a OnePlus Two and the 2015 Moto x pure. I got rid of both for this Nexus 6... Which will last until a value 820-based device drops next year

I'm primarily concerned with potential for burn on imaging. I'm not huge into custom roms or anything like that so I'd likely be using just stock android on whatever I go with.
I've decided that I'm either going to get the Moto x Pure or the Nexus 6/6P.
The Moto x Pure has an IPS panel, which you can't really go wrong with. No rich vivid colors, but the LCD on my m7 has been nothing but satisfactory. Even if AMOLED boasts richer colors and blacker blacks, I'd be leery to adopt the Nexus 6/6P because of potential burn on imaging and/or off tones.
Even in person, the Nexus 6 has a visibly pink display. I'd hate to have that issue develop even after a year of use. My M7 has a display just as crisp and bright as day one, albeit it's just your average LCD.
The pic is a Nexus 6 to the left and a Moto x Pure to the right and is representative of my experience with the Nexus 6. The Nexus 6 has a visibly pinker and somewhat more dim screen. Spec to spec, the Nexus 6 is only a bit better than the Moto x Pure. This may be something that effects only one in every so many Nexus 6, but it really puts me off to it.
Won't me post a direct link, so for those of you who want to see the two side by side, here

Also, expandable storage seems awesome.

Actually, I would spec the 808 marginally, theoretically ABOVE the 805, though it would likely be equivalent in the real world. And if you don't flash ROMs, a 16gb X pure is perfectly acceptable given its expandable memory.
Honestly, the Moto X pure is a terrific machine at $399USD, and it sounds like it would match your personal criteria inasmuch as it would not match mine. I was not willing to pay over $500 for an 810 processor, but that's just me and my scrooginess. Different strokes for different folks, right?
Have fun with your choice!

Better buy the MXP and see yourself why most of its owners return it for a Nexus6. Ips lcd is nothing worth to compare to amoled 1440p of n6. Motorola's track record for updates are joke. They dont give a smallest damn about their customers. Their updates are even slower than LG.

This is my 2nd Nexus 6 (first one I sent back to Motorola after it took a bad fall from my car), and I've never had any of the screen issues you're talking about. Personally, I like the Nexus 6 due to the ease of use and huge community support it has here on XDA. I'm also a massive flashaholic and can't go a week on the same ROM without having to switch, and you can find just about any flavor you like here. Coming from a Device like the M7, I think I'd definitely go with the N6 and try a dip in the custom pool. Either way, root and Xposed are a must because anything that you don't like about the N6 stock (which shouldn't be much) you'll be able to change with Gravity Box, a build.prop edit, or a custom kernel.
If you're that worried about the screen and absolutely opposed to the custom scene here at XDA, I'd go ahead and stick with the Moto X. However, I'd say ROMs like Chroma, Cataclysm, Benzo, xTraSmooth, and Dirty Unicorns are worth buying this device for.
Just my two cents, dude.
I just got my Nexus 6 64 white. I love it. I would get the 6 over the 6p for the slightly larger screen. 5.96 vs 5.7. Wireless Qi charging, not on the 6p. Motorola built. Better community support. OSI camera. The 6 also has Motorola's nanocoating protection. (I wouldn't do it but there is a YouTube video of a 6 that was left in water for an hour. Was just fine afterwards.) The 6 could well be the better of the 2.
Lastly, you can update to Marshmallow NOW !!!!! (I literally took mine out of the box new and updated to Marshmallow via computer flash.) Marshmallow will roll out to your device via OTA if you don't want to flash.
So what do y'all think? I love my Nexus 6 for its shear size, I personally would LOVE to see another huge Nexus like this one! Thoughts?

I really don't think it would ever happen again. I like the size of my Nexus 6 but, I really think that 5.7 in would better suit me for my next phone. Basically, I'm not on the whale phone bandwagon but, I'm not in the 5 in phone camp either.
My greatest desire from the next Nexus is something around 5 inches that I can easily use with one hand and doesn't swing around like giant brick in my pocket that hits me in the nuts every time I take a step. My last 3 phones have all been huge (5.7 inches or larger), so I'm ready for a change.
If they make two Nexuses (or is it Nexii?) again this year, hopefully they'll be of equal specs instead of a huge premium device and a small budget/midrange device.
Yeah agree, even the OP3 felt and looked small in comparison to the 6 inch Nexus i had. Do miss the bigger screen sometimes though when watching youtube, video`s and pics
For me a 5.2 inch screen would be perfect. I had the LG G2 before my nexus 6 and that was for me the perfect size.

I can understand that. But 6" size compared to 5,7" is not much. For me it's the back of the N6. It's round and should be flat. Just for easier fitting in car kit and belt cases.
Secondly an option to choose dark themes for system and G-apps.
The round back I can agree with, if you've never wanted your Nexus 6 to slide off of a flat table, guess what? Too bad! Lol @Face_Plant it's racking you? Jesus! Never had that issue brother LOL I'm a sucker for a huge display, the size of this phone was a HUGE factor in purchasing it, icing on the cake that it was a Nexus, stock Android and a HUGE dev scene!

I like my Nexus 6, but its to wide for me. Something like Nexus 6p, Xperia Z3 perfect for my hand and its easy to use with one hand. Before buying I know that phone is really big, but I bought it because its Nexus and I never buy again other brand than Nexus.
Arguments about the screen size would be different, when the Nexus phones would be exactly the same (inside) and the only difference would be the screen size.

After getting this Nexus 6, I'm sold on them for sure! I'm only going for the Nexus line now.

It's true, I mean, the 6p is more powerful than the 6, but that small bit of screen to me is wonderful. I like how wide the 6 is! The 6p is strangely long to me.
me, being 5'7", with average sized hands, would absolutely LOVE for the next nexus to be 6".. but i have a feeling that it wont happen
I had 2 Nexus 6Ps and on both the bezel bent at the volume rocker. Sold them both instantly and bought (another) White 64gb Nexus 6 sealed in the box for 350. Best phone I've ever had. Still waiting for something worth upgrading to, because obviously the 6P was a FAIL
I love the size of my 6" Nexus 6, but I think it will be easier to use a 5.7" in VR headsets, at least the ones that are available now.

The N6 screen has 1440 x 2560 pixels. I've seen 5,7" phones with 1080 x 1920.
The use of 5,7" would be OK as long apps including G-apps does not use the higher resolution.
Or do I see it wrong?

I was thinking more of the physical size being able to fit into VR headsets. Even with my case off, my Nexus 6 barely fits and even then it's hard to keep the power and volume buttons from getting hit.
Another reason to accept the newer/smaller size on a new Nexus is for the upcoming Daydream, Tango, and Valve.
