[Q] 4.3 vs 4.4.4 ??? - Sony Xperia ZR

Hello everyone. I finally bought the Sony Xperia ZR.
Currently I'm running android 4.3 and I'm having mixed thoughts about updating to android 4.4.4
I know the best way for me to find out which is more suited to my needs is by trying both of them out but I have limited net plan.
So could I have some suggestions. Anything at all.
Which one, in YOUR opinion has better battery life, multitasking, gaming and anything else you can think of.
Thank you :good:

Always update to latest. Don't think about battery and other stuff.
Update version means corrections on past problem with better solution. It's never changing process.
Good luck.

after 4.4.4 update, my phone is overheating very quickly like in 10 mins usage of facebook or whatsapp or youtube
4.3 was better. and because of overheating, the battery life is shortened.

For me at least, 4.4.4 is much better, it's a lot more responsive, and doesn't have the battery drain bug that 4.4.2 had. The battery life isn't as good as 4.3, I don't think, but I'm not sure, since I'm running Xposed with a whole bunch of modules, some of which take up a lot of RAM and battery. Still, overall, I think you should update.

[Q] Xperia Z vs Galaxy S4

HI.
I am looking for some information regarding the Sony Xperia Z.
I currently have a Galaxy S3 and my contract is up for renewal soon. The S4 is a bit underwhelming and I've had my head turned by the good looks and features of the Xperia Z.
I just wanted some peoples opinions of how the phone actually is during everyday use.
For example -
Is the battery life really that bad? Does Juice Defender improve it in any way?
How good is the screen?
Does it have an on-board radio (FM/DAB etc.)
How easy is it to flash a custom ROM?
Being on this forum, I know the answers may be a wee bit biased so if anyone can give me an honest appraisal of how much better an Xperia Z is compared to a Galaxy S3 (LTE) I would be really grateful.
Thanks in advance.
Battery life in my eyes is good, I work nights and I stream music to my MW600 for about 7 hours, 3G is on, check facebook about every hour, read a book on calm moment and check the interwebs. Starting with a ful battery and stopping with a 25% charge.
I just have stamina mode on, no other battery saving apps
I love just love the screen.
It has an onboard radio.
No idea about flashing, gotta ask someone els.
The screen is stunning great for movies/youtube and books and this is without the built in Bravia Engine 2 being enabled. Battery life is excellent when using stamina mode and no other apps, I don't think other apps are needed for this purposes as stamina mode learns as you ise your phone and gives you reccommendations to increase battery time. The battery does not discharge overnight either, screen off button pressed before bed and the percentage is the same by morning. Excellent in my opinion.
Not used other options but the waterproofing and dust proofing really is less of a worry.

"Is the battery life really that bad? Does Juice Defender improve it in any way?"
What do you mean with that bad!??? It's not bad, for some people it is, but that has to do with other reasons beside the battery (Software optimization?)
"How good is the screen?"
We can't say anything about that, in the end you will have to be the one that decides whether it's good or not..
"Does it have an on-board radio (FM/DAB etc.)"
Uhu/Yup/Yes
"How easy is it to flash a custom ROM?"
It's easier then it will be on the GS4:silly: Talking about no CM for GS4

Hmm, this one is a bit tricky...
Haven't really seen too many pictures made by the GS4 so can't really judge that.
The things that I can say about the XZ camera is that it really has potential, we saw that with the burst mode.
So Sony should be able to make it better then it is at the moment. (Software issue at the moment)

I'd read a lot of reports and reviews that mentioned that the battery life wasn't the greatest. If it lasts a day with normal use then I'll be happy. I originally had the same problem with the SG3, with the phone not lasting 24 hours, but Juice Defender leaves me with about 35% at the end fo the day, after heavy use

Again, I'd read a few reports that said there was light leaking and that the contrast ratio wasn't the greatest. Just wanted a user's opinion on clarity, quality etc.

I'm not a big Custom ROM user, but I do like to root my phone. I noticed the Xperia forum wasn't the biggest, so again, just wanted an average user's opinion.
Thanks for the replies, though.

Yeah and I've saw a lot of people saying that the battery live is great.
I think that the XZ will have more custom roms then the GS4, even though less people will use the phone.
Ask the same question in the Samsung forums and you will get the opposite reaction.
The phone is just fantastic..The only reason i need to choose btw this and galaxy is by holding them togetheR Galaxy will feel so cheap in front of this galssy beauty!
Thanks for all the replies, guys. I think you've just made my mind up.

[Q] 23.0.1.A.5.77 vs 23.0.A.2.105 vs 23.0.A.2.93 battery consumption?

Hi, I open that thread to know yours opinion about battery consumption in each version of FIRMWARES.
I get the impression that .93 is receiving less power than .77
What do you think ?
Hard to tell. There's a bug in 23.0.1.A.5.77, and the phone/SMS radios will go to sleep under some circumstances on LTE data. A lot of AT&T users have to run that build in WCDMA which uses less juice. So you can't really compare battery consumption apples to apples.
The battery in this thing is bulletproof unless an app happens to hang, but you can usually tell the phone is getting warm before it runs down too far. I for one am very satisfied with it.
For me it's a bit different. I jumped from 23.0.1.A.1.49/R13B straight to 23.0.1.A.5.77. Because my phone has come with stock HK custom firmware and damn it they don't release newer versions for some reason. I didn't knew that before the new rooting method finally came out. So what I've done is to flash a Singapore custom firmware and then made the rooting procedure.
And about the battery thing, I must say I feel the .77 firmware has much better stand-by performance on my Z3 compact. Much better. And since I gained root along with the upgrading, it's hard to say how much impact the firmware actually has on the battery improvement. Because by gaining root access, I'm able to install greenify and xposed to help saving battery.
But overall, the firmware does improve battery for me.

After updating from KitKat to lollipop 5.0.1 I am very dissatisfied with the battery.

Hello all, I am assuming other people have had this issue, but are there any roms out there that fix the battery life between the KitKat and Lollipop updates? My battery was amazing at first, I could come off battery in the am, and still be at 95% around noon to 1pm, but now it drains about 20% faster it seems (wild guess, but I very much do not like it.)
Let me know if anyone has come across a rom that has the awesome battery as KitKat had, otherwise I might just try and go back to that.
Thanks!
I'm currently finding myself in the same situation as you. I've been on 5.0.1 for a while, but my battery life has been pretty bad. I just haven't bothered to do anything about it until my son got a Moto G and can get 5.5-6 hours of SOT, and I'm struggling to get 2.5 lately.
I installed CM 12.1 nightly last night, and so far, it may actually be worse. I can't keep it anyways due to music playback bugs.
I was on TEKXodus N4 URv3.6R3 prior to switching. Like the ROM (as much as one can like a TW ROM), but didn't deliver battery life.
I actually came here tonight to read up on the KK downgrade routine and find a KK ROM and start that.

Well that is unfortunately not what I was hoping to hear, but it may just be worth downgrading. I do like the aesthetics and such, especially of 5.1.1 which I have on my Nexus 4, but I much prefer usability and battery that kitkat provided.
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying it's possible to get just as good battery life on LP as KK. I think you need to look at your setup, wakelocks, rogue apps, too many notifications or apps that constantly sync over the internet etc. Example: I lose 2% battery over night (8 hours).

Fwiw, I reverted to ank4 based FireKat and my battery life is back to great. 4 hours sot + 8 hours of music via slacker and/or Google.
People say you can good battery life on LP but I never could. I went through guide after guide, and none of it ever did anything for me. I'm also not going to cripple my phone for the sake of battery. I'd still like it to work.

Worth updating Xperia ZR to 5.1 Lollipop?

C5503 Xperia ZR owner here. Currently on 4.4.4 and everything is smooth and zippy. I wonder if that snappiness and speed will remain if I upgrade to 5.1? I heard reports of poor battery life on lollipop.
Worth upgrading?
Certainly the performance and snappiness have increased on LP. And the whole UI is butter smooth. I think its worth to upgrade to LP if you don't care about the battery life. Battery life is poor compared to KK but its not totally worse. Also make to upgrade 5.1 and not 5.0 as its has tons of bugs.

Wise decision . Me too doing the same.
After a longtime. I updated to 5.1.1 from 4.4.4 some 20 days before. It is nice many aspects. Battery life is also ok. Phone is very smooth. If you are using xposed. Be careful with evry xposed app. First time in my life i caught up with bootloop for installing serjr. But learnt many things after that.
Overall LP 5.1.1 is nice with smooth and many good features.

Battery life on Xperia T

Hi, I've recently revived my xT and since I last time I flashed Lollipop ROM's, there has been a lot of development around. My problem back then was battery life and overheating, since then I stopped using gapps, which helped my other phone a lot.
So my question for you guys is: Is it getting any better? I've heard that Marshmallow and Nougat have made some attempts to prolong battery life, what's your opinion on that? Should I just leave my phone on Kitkat and call it a day?
