I purchased the 2014 Moto X on Amazon for $.01 since it was a steal, and now I'm trying to unlock the SIM for when I travel overseas (military). By any chance, has anyone else had luck unlocking this version of the Moto X's SIM? I attempted to purchase a code from Unlock Unit and their attempt at retrieving one via AT&T's database was a failure. They gave me the choice to wait another 1-3 days and see if they can pull one from Motorola's database but I'm expecting that to not work as well. I've even called AT&T and explained that I make frequent travels overseas, but I was told that they couldn't do it. If anyone else has a solution then I'm open all ears. Thanks in advance for you guys/gals support!

I know there is a thread about someone using a MAXX for this purpose here - but I wondered if anyone here specifically had experience using a Telcel GSM SIM in Mexico with a Moto X.
Just a little backstory on this... I am going to Cancun in October. I have a Samsung S4 but read that it has issues using data with a GSM sim... so I did some research and, from what I have read, my best option was to get a Moto X because the radio in 4.4.4 fixed a bunch of issues with using a GSM sim and that the Moto X was truly sim unlocked - where the MAXX was locked during a recent update. From a layman's perspective, it is almost impossible to determine what the reality is... but I made the jump anyway.
I actually got Verizon to give me a free upgrade 15 months ahead of schedule when I told them that I would just add a new line and pay the ETF rather than paying full retail for the phone... after explaining to them that I wanted the Moto X because it was sim unlocked. The good news is that they didn't even extend my contract... they just let me buy a new subsidized phone, apparently.
So, now to the question at hand... has anyone had experience doing this? Do I need to do something to make it work properly?
Hi,
I am in Canada and since Moto Maker won't ship here, I went to the states and bought a Moto X from an AT&T store. Unfortunately it's locked. Is there anyway I can get an unlock code before the 60 days of AT&T service that seems to be policy?
I really don't want to drive 4 hours to return the phone, and want to get it working on Rogers in Canada.
This news may interest you, Motorola is likely to enable all LTE bands for the Pure edition, so it will have all the LTE bands like on the AT&T version: http://www.androidcentral.com/moto-x-pure-edition-xt1095-may-soon-get-more-lte-bands
As for unlocking the AT&T sim, I used the website fastgsm.com to unlock my AT&T Moto X 2013, it took them a week to send me the code, but it worked. There are other services like cellunlocker.net.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem the 2014 version of the G and X are available yet, you'll just have to wait a while.
Did you manage to get the code before the 60 days of service from AT&T?
I'm trying to help a friend unlock an at&t moto x to use on straighttalk. I have unlock two codes purchased from theunlockingcompany.com but neither will unlock the phone. one code matches the at&t supplied code from the person she bought off of on swappa(which I directed her there and thus I feel responsible). My obvious first question to her was if she activated the sim. She hasn't yet. I don't know if that has to be. This is my first trial at sim unlocking. If this is the case, then i'll get her to do that. I've tried using my home wifi and my hotspot via my moto x 2014. I thank you in advance.
I need help unlocking my att Moto X 2014.
What I have done is place a tmobile sim card in the devices. I received a but it just goes away. I have place the correct apn setting in the devices but a signal doesn't show up.
Can someone help me get this phone unlock to use on Tmobile?

Believe it or not, lots of people have successfully gotten ATT to unlock their on contract and Next phone simply by requesting it through their online portal. If you are not currently an ATT customer, you select non-ATT Mobility customer.

If the phone was bought on contract and the line is currently under contract, it is YMMV. Same if it is a Next device. But if the phone is not on contract or purchased with a Next plan, they will definitely unlock it for you.

Also, you can always try an unlock code provider. There are a couple of very reliable services online which will definitely unlock your Moto X.

I appreciate that but I am not getting the option to apply a unlock code to my devices.
I am trying to see if anyone else is having that issue?!
Hey,
*DONATION OF $50 WILL BE SENT VIA PAYPAL TO ANYONE WHO CAN PROVIDE A SIMPLE/PRACTICAL SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE*
I have been having an issue with the Moto X Xt1058 Att device.
I have a business where we have online retail and wholesale cellphones. I got a shipment of the the Moto X and they were unlocked.
Some of my clients received the product and started complaining about them being unlocked. I checked for myself and they were unlocked.
Upon doing a software update on the device it carrier locks and when putting in a sim card it requests the unlock code.
I went on Att Device Unlock site and when putting in the Imei number is says they don't recognize the sim.
Let me know if you can be of help
Thanks,

Contact Motorola Via their forums, ( i had same problem and it is not limited to just me although it seems to be only on certain batches of the phone).. anyways, contact MARK(Motorola forum manager) (https://forums.motorola.com/people/6d01fef04a) or an admin at Motorola Forums for Moto X and describe situation they will get you straightened out
You can call Motorola support but they will tell you the same thing, Mark will fix it.. please make a thread in the forum at Motorola for your phone as Mark does not typically respond to direct PM's but he will be the one that takes over and fixes your clients issues.
Let me know once you get it worked out.
