I am a Rodgers subscriber and have purchased a used Sprint Moto X. I have unlocked it so I could just put in a SIM and go. Is this my best option or should/can I flash this with custom firmware, updated Sprint firmware (KitKat), or switch over to Rogers firmware. Any other Sprint Moto X users in Canada out there? Current software is 161.44.32.ghost_Sprint.en.US

I was under the impression that the unlock of the phone would allow any SIM to be put in. The point of unlocking the phone would be to allow a person to take a phone and use it with any other provider. I do not have the right size SIM to put in but the phone is connected to the Rodgers network right now and I can dial 911 (emergency dial). It could be that I do not understand the definition of unlock and now have a phone I can still only use with Sprint.....

If you went to the Motorola site and did their unlock procedure.... Then you unlocked the boot loader. That won't let you use the phone on another carrier. Unlocking boot loader would be done with fast boot.
If you sim unlocked....you would have had a code from sprint....or somewhere, and when you put the other carrier sim card in....it would ask you for a code, and you would enter the code.
What exactly did you do???
Just the bootloader, should have done more research. There are sites that suggest for a small fee the sim can be unlocked. Can they unlock sprint phones or am I going to have to sell it?

I may be wrong, but since there's an unlock sprint sim bounty thread....I am pretty sure those sites can't unlock sprint moto x's.
Sorry!!!
No the bounty threads are to unlock the bootloader. As for Sim unlocking, I don't know anything about it related to CDMA network.
According to Wikipedia, Rogers is a GSM network. Sprint is a CDMA network. Therefore the Sprint Moto X will not work with Rogers, unless I'm missing something. There is an exception that Verizon phones are world phones which mean they support CDMA, but their newer phones also have the radio to support GSM, which means their phone are GSM unlocked to work for GSM networks outside of US (from what I understand they prevent it from working with GSM carriers within US unless you sim unlock it).
Sorry but the Sprint Moto X won't work with Rogers network. You just need to buy a GSM unlocked Moto X (xt1053) and stick the sim in, then enter the Rogers APN information. You can also get an unlocked ATT Moto X (xt1058) or presumably a Verizon Moto X.

Bounty threads are all the rage for the X.

Sprint phones can't be sim unlocked. So buying one to use on another carrier isn't really an option.

You say that buying Sprint Moto X isn't option but there is some way to unlock Moto X because there is solutions for Sprint HTC One, Sprint LG G2, Sprint Galaxy S4 and etc so it's don't be hard to make solution to unlock Sprint Moto X too so maybe there could be found developers who will do it I have hope.
P.S. and one news I PM ysabxe for information progress on this project but he say that this thread is not actual for him more I thin cause nobody send him that files what he needed for unlock he need already unlocked Moto X TWRP backup.

Don't trust Wikipedia. Just like the verizon X, the sprint X supports at least quad band gsm for global roaming, which are the same gsm frequencies also used in North America. (I haven't looked into the other frequencies the sprint x supports).
The problem comes in that the Sprint X is sim locked to only use their Sims. You can only get the sim unlock code from sprint directly, no 3rd party sellers seem to have them. Sprint will only give it if you are a current customer, with the X active on your line, and other condiitions are met.... So if you buy a used Sprint Moto X that hasn't been sim unlocked, you are screwed. But if you buy one that has been sim unlocked, you'll be able to get at least basic gsm.

Because other phones can, you must be able to on X.... Unfortunately that is faulty logic.
For whatever reason, the only way to sim unlock a Sprint Moto X has been to be a current Sprint customer and get the code from them. For all the posts on XDA asking for Sprint X sim unlock code for those who are no longer Sprint customers, no one has found a way. None of the 3rd party code sellers have a way.

If you are active user look unlocking steps there is always used omadm.apk on Sprint HTC one and Sprint LG G2 so there is way to unlock Sprint X too but need already sprint customer who already have unlocked their Sprint X and need files from already unlocked Sprint X ysabxe was asking make backup and link it on dropbox or some cloud but nobody did it. so it doesn't mean that it is impossible to unlock Sprint X

Again, you're assuming the same method and software used to SIM unlock phones by other makers is how its done on the X too.
While it may not be impossible, I would say its improbable... The X has been out since August yet with all the requests by those looking to SIM unlock the Sprint X, as of today, no one has posted a way to do it, other than be an active sprint customer and request the code from them.
I purchased the 2014 Moto X on Amazon for $.01 since it was a steal, and now I'm trying to unlock the SIM for when I travel overseas (military). By any chance, has anyone else had luck unlocking this version of the Moto X's SIM? I attempted to purchase a code from Unlock Unit and their attempt at retrieving one via AT&T's database was a failure. They gave me the choice to wait another 1-3 days and see if they can pull one from Motorola's database but I'm expecting that to not work as well. I've even called AT&T and explained that I make frequent travels overseas, but I was told that they couldn't do it. If anyone else has a solution then I'm open all ears. Thanks in advance for you guys/gals support!

Hi guys.
Could i use xt1093 for gsm networks. I have read about it that it has gsm in specs on (phonearena dot com/phones/Motorola-Moto-X-2014_id8897 - sorry cant post a link) but i saw that guys on ebay write something like 'Will work only in US' and similar things.
I started reading about it and found that moto x (2013) from us cellular has problems with gsm (it didnt support gsm at all - and this is correct because us cellular is cdma) but i havent found anything similar to moto x 2014. It looks like this phone will work with gsm networks in europe, isnt it?
P.s. I am a noob with wp htc hd7, so I dont know anything about locking and i would like to dive into android but first of all i need a Android device Thanks
Bump. Was also wondering the same thing. has anyone here used an XT1093 on GSM outside US or even on T-MO/AT&T?
I used to work at us cell. They have a hybrid network. CDMA for voice, however the SIM card does support gsm for their lte. However on the original moto x they SIM card domestically was locked and was only for data. It would work for gsm out of the country but not in. So no matter what you do would not work on AT&T or T-Mobile. I left in April though and am not sure if they did the same with the new moto x 2014 with all the new carrier laws coming into effect for 2015. Typically us cell paid less money for the phones so they only had the antenna frequencies pertinent to them. Unlike Verizon who loads their phones with like every antenna on the planet. Lol. Hope this helps.
Hey!
It honestly really does help. I live in Asia with 2100 band for UMTS. I think i might just gamble on one
unlocking xt1093
I own this phone. Paid for it outright. Unfortunately it is simlocked, and the unlock code US Cellular provided didn't work. Neither did the several unlock codes I've purchased online. If anyone has any suggestions, my phone is available for abuse.

When you say the code didn't work do you mean the code input you get when you put in a t-mobile or at&t sim? what message do you get after you input the code?

teamuscellular dot com Forum/topic/7567-how-to-root-moto-x-2014-bootloader-unlock-too/
i have already rooted and bootloader unlocked my moto, maybe some one will get lucky and find a exploit for this, most of moto x 2nd is no problem to unlock, i even search for some crack moto x 2nd to buy a mainboard but on ebay there is only a LCD / touch screen notting more
maybe is possible to do that same what with Photon Q 4lte ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929143 )
Good news!
I have called US Cellular they told me that If I update to android 5.0 they will unlock my device.
however I cannot update to android 5.0 since phone says I am most updated.
so I tried to follow youtube manuals and I figured the android 5.0 for out XT1093 isnt out there yet
and installation doesnt accpet XT1095 file update
Nice!! What you sed to them and with part of u.s. cellular you spoke? And why update to lollipop is needed ?.. I have lollipop but i flashed software for xt1095..
Maybe they in official update software put some unlocking line in sources code ..
Give us some more info about your phone conversation plesae

I have some idea what could help us to unlock xt1093 , regarding to this subject ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-success-sim-unlock-sprint-xt1056-t2825155 ) its about unlocking moto x first gen.
user samwathegreat find solution in one of NV-items edit #8378 from 00 to 01 ( unlocked device from locked has this diffrent amount over that NV ) he campare nv-item and memory dump from this phones.
I do that same ( change this amount in moto x 2nd) but unfortunetly does not work for me , probably simlock request is in other NV value for moto x 2nd.
I have some idea, i have flashed system with software from XT1095 over my xt1093 , if someone can do a backup of NV dump with DFS CDMA tool from unlocked XT1095 we can check diffrences and find the unlock solution ( or even flash whole NV dump to our phone )
***
Im very sorry but i need to ask You @samwathegreat what you think about it ? is there any possiblity to do it ? your experience is probably the bigest. Once again sorry for disturbance , but i dont know better persone to ask.
kindly regards

I''m planning on trading my PS3 with my friend for his Moto X 2014 AT&T version. My question is would it work on the T-mobile network and which website should I use to get the unlock code.

hey there is this cool new website to help you check if your phone will work with a different carrier http://www.willmyphonework.net/ and from what I know no you cant unlock that phone or root it but it still might work with T-Mobile I have no idea.
Yes, you can unlock your phone to use it on t-mobile network. I use it with tmobile.
You should pay for this, for me was $13, you just need to install an app. Moto x Unlock.
I need help unlocking my att Moto X 2014.
What I have done is place a tmobile sim card in the devices. I received a but it just goes away. I have place the correct apn setting in the devices but a signal doesn't show up.
Can someone help me get this phone unlock to use on Tmobile?

Believe it or not, lots of people have successfully gotten ATT to unlock their on contract and Next phone simply by requesting it through their online portal. If you are not currently an ATT customer, you select non-ATT Mobility customer.
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/
If the phone was bought on contract and the line is currently under contract, it is YMMV. Same if it is a Next device. But if the phone is not on contract or purchased with a Next plan, they will definitely unlock it for you.
