Quick background, I took the official lollipop update on the 2014 moto x pure edition, performed a factory reset to make sure i would have any fc
question:
ever since the update, whenever i select a a ringtone, the volume starts off really low the first time, and then gets louder. anybody else having this issue?
update: looks like when the phone rings, the ringtone volume starts of low, and then ramps up. is this a setting that i can turn off? or is it a bug? or a feature?
i'm experiencing the same behavior, however, it was happening on my device with KK as well. been exploring for an increasing ringtone option but haven't found it. also trying to figure out why i'm not seeing heads-up notifications for new email, text msgs, etc.
Basically it is a "feature" I believe, Samsung S3 had the same thing. There maybe an app available to change this or if you are rooted there might be a way to change the setting via exposed (although I don't know if it has been updated yet for lollipop or possibly look at the build.prop file though if you don't know what your doing with that, I wouldn't touch it as you can foobar your phone messing around with it.... If it was me, I would post it in the dev thread and see if one of the dev's have the answer. Or check Google, in the short search I did, apparently Moto G 2013 had this "feature" also.....
^^^ahhhh.... the 'ole "undocumented feature" (that's not a bug)...
if the rest of you are experiencing it, then i guess its a feature.... i guess i wanted to see if i set something up incorrectly or it was indeed a feature... .
It does this on kk. Didn't you notice it then?

I don't recall this on kk. I'm sure that this was not happening in kk for me.
Definitely doesn't / didn't do it on kit Kat for me either. Does it now though..

When receiving a an email, message, or whatever (e.g., Gmail, snapchat, kakaotalk, google voice), the active notification appears as normal (vibrate/sound + screen display), but then the phone repeatedly displays the notification until it's unlocked. I do want the initial notification, but just the one. After the initial notification, further notif. only display the screen (no sound/vibrate).
When there isn't a notification, it doesn't display the clock over and over again as if I'm picking it up, so it's not like it's being moved around or something.
It did not used to do this, but I'm not sure exactly what setting/app/whatever would have caused this.
'Active notifications' has an option to disable certain apps or turn off completely, but there are no 'repeat' or 'lockscreen' settings located there, or in individual apps.
When I googled/searched for the issue (key words: active, notifications, repeat, stop, android, alert), I found these related posts, which seem to describe what I'm experiencing (albeit on different phones). Edit: ah, I can't post links yet, if you would like to look at them, please google the parts-of-the-url below

Has anyone else had this problem? What settings, if any, can I check for to disable these unwanted (repeated) notifications or how else might I go about it?
This isn't a bug or an issue, it's a feature. It's something called "breathing" notifications.
Every so often, the phone will give you the notification again just to be sure you saw it the first time. There is no way to remove or alter this feature through Active Display's settings.
If you are looking for an equivalent to Active Display, a good one (and the only one I know of) is DynamicNotifications by GreatBytes.
Have you tried swiping the notification to the side? That should dismiss it.

It seemed to me it wasn't normal behavior, as I don't remember it happening when I first got the device, but if you say it's intended, I'll go with that.
DarkWolffe: you say "every so often". The notifications are appearing every 5 seconds or so. Is this inline with what your own experience? If I can't change that interval from the native settings, might the app you linked be able to? It seems that DynamicNotifications is made for devices that don't already have Active Notifications. (perhaps I'm supposed to disable AN and only use DN?) Thank you for the link, though, I'll check it out.
scottjb: Ah, I figured that out sometime after making this post, but thank you for that tip. It's useful when I may actually see the phone, but when I'm away from the phone or sleeping, for example, I'd prefer it not to behave that way. I realize it's an AMOLED screen, so the battery really shouldn't be affected too much, but it doesn't feel right to have it turn on over and over again so often.
Knowing they're called "breathing notifications" has allowed me to better search for related topics. It seems that turning the phone over or putting it in a pocket will stop the breathing. I'd still prefer if I could change the interval somehow, but I'm satisfied to have figured most of how it works out.
The interval of the notifications seems to change over time. When you first get a text message etc it seems to flash the notifications more often, after some time I believe it slows down a little. You can have the feature disabled at night, my ringer is silent from midnight to 9 am and my active notifications are disabled from 1 to 7 am. When disabled at night it only stops it from displaying on its own, if you move the phone it will still display the clock and any notifications.
LG Pulse with KitKat 4.4.2 same issue
I don't have a Moto X, I have the LG Pulse from Virgin Mobile Custom. My notifications do that, too! I have KitKat 4.4.2. I have never experienced this and I certainly would NOT make it a default nor intended action. Mine start out at the first notification + sounds, then 10 seconds later, 15 seconds later, 20 sec, 25 sec, etc. It is very annoying and there is no option in the system settings nor individual app settings to stop that behavior. I may just have to turn off notification sounds as this is ridiculous.
You can try setting the "sleep at night" option, and adjust the time to be on all the time (1am to 12am).
I believe this setting is supposed to suppress the breathing notifications. Though, it won't stop it from showing if you move the phone around... I know this cause my phone charges on my bed at night and when I roll around, it triggers AD, even though I have sleep mode on.
Hope it helps!

I'm heavily regretting installing this update.
The phone is overheating after minimal use, there is no tap to wake, the two drop menus severely annoys me, and I really can't tell any speed differences.

Bluetooth is a load of s#!t, much worse than before.
I use it in my car, so I only switch it on when I'm driving.
The Bluetooth toggle option now takes longer to get to; a hassle when you just wanna get going.
So, I figure I'd make use of the Quick Throw widget on the lock screen. What a joke! You have to swipe down on the widget to first expand it, then tap on it, then input your screen lock unlock pattern (or equivalent). That then turns on WiFi and Bluetooth, and it searches for your saved paired devices. Seems to take longer to connect, too.
Last time I used it, though, I had to manually select my car for it to connect. When it finally did, I soon realised that for whatever reason my music was playing in order instead of shuffled (via the Walkman app), as I had it when I last played my music (after the update).
Also, whenever a notification came through (from Facebook), the music stopped completely. I had to press the play button on my car twice (as the first time registered as "pausing" the music, even though it had already stopped), and then when the song started playing once more, it was back at the beginning again!
Oh, and when I finish driving now (meaning my car is not running, along with its Bluetooth), the damn music continues to play, making me have to manually turn it off.
Argh. Kinda regretting updating, but it's early days and so I'm hopeful that I can find some workarounds.

And what about the re-mount reboot fix what would happen to it in the KitKat Update? This would do a bootloop for Link2Sd and folder mount users
And About rooting how will we root ? Will the CM Kernel work with the super SU zip?
There are many questions I can'T answer
I don't know if my comment is effective against this issue, but, just in case you guys don't have any idea about this
A Bit of A Problem, I Think
Why do we always get less features?
First, Sony decides to cut "Profiles" feature in 4.3. Then we discover "App-ops" is missing too.
And now no ART for 4.4. Add to that, the SD card restrictions!
Why Sony?
Hey guys,
I have a weird issue with my Moto X 2014 (stock Lollipop, no root or anything), and I can't find anything helpful around the web.
I have a video of the issue - I can't post the link as I don't have enough messages, but go to vid.me and add this code to the URL: /tMXf
Basically every few days, I find the phone is on vibrate. The volume rocker is suddenly all the way down, even though it should be maxed out, and I can't physically turn it up as you can see in the video. Even in audio settings, the ringer options is greyed out.
Android's quiet hours setting is NOT active. I have Moto Assist set to kick in at night time, but this happens randomly during the day, plus I tried removing it but nothing changes. It's not something to do with calendar events silencing the phone either, as Moto Assist only has scenarios for driving and the aforementioned night time.
Anyone knows what could be happening here? Thanks, much appreciated.
That IS strange... Have you tried rebooting your phone?

Thanks for the reply, man... yes, of course I tried that, but it's definitely not a temporary glitch. It happens again and again, every few days. A reboot does fix the issue when it occurs (in fact, it's the only way to get sound back), but only until the next time.
I'm using Galaxy S6 Active in Korea
Of course, i unlocked, and updated to 5.1.1
(i used 5.0 just few days, i can't remember how long did it maintain)
Now my phone seems to treat the vibrate profile as silent.
text message vibrations is Okay(i'm using google messenger, not basic sms app, not google hangout)
But, Call notification,FB,Gmail....and so on, all of feature which has vibration noti feature do not work now.
Actually i already did device reset once. at that time, i could get vibration notification.
but few days later, back to present state.
i googled, and i got some people who were experienced like me.
but they said various opinions about this problem such as battery saving mode, 5.1.1 updating...etc.
plus no oned replied "i fix it!"
I constantly use the vibrate profile and this is very problematic not having the phone actually vibrate because I am missing notifications a lot now.
Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to fix this?
plz give me your comment
I read, I think on Android central, that this occurs when power saving mode is on after updating to 5.1.1. This didn't happen on the previous software.
The sound is 4 progressively higher notes on a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument. Usually plays on unlock, but also randomly throughout the day and night. My default notification sound is silence, so this might be tied to an app or the OS (MM 6.1). I just don't know what it is - other than loud and inconvenient. Any Ideas? This is driving me crazy and waking my wife at night. Thanks.
its an app, 100000%. now your job is to find out which one.
Hi and thanks for the confirmation Simms22. :good: I know. Kinda obvious.
I have gone through settings and turned off most radios thinking it could be tied to an app through BT, GPS, NFC, etc.; a successful connection or location fix. I have also gone through the various apps and checked their notification sound settings too. No dice. Whats worse is that I have gone through all my ringtones and notification sounds and can't find it.
It seems to be tied to the Google Now cards notifications, but if it is, I can't find it. I don't really want to turn those off but I guess that's next. Grrrr.

id still be guessing, but google doesnt have a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument sound on the nexus 6, so i know its not a default sound.
Thanks for the info. Hope I described the sound well enough. I'm mostly deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other. Misspent youth and all that.
I know the notifications and ringtones I've added. That leaves apps that have brought their own sounds with their install. So it's back to the haystack.
I think I'll let it percolate in the sub-conscience for a while. Besides, I'm way behind on a personal Tasker project. Thanks again. I'll update later with what I find out.

you can enable safe mode. that way you can check if its an app. long press the power button until you get the power off option. then long press on the power off until the safe mode option pops up. if that notification doesn't go off, then its an app. as on safe mode, all apps are disabled.
Flash another ROM. This happened to me on PureNex and when I switched to Chroma it went away.
Sometimes it actually happens once in a while. I'll hear the annoying "do dieu do doo" sound

I also have this problem. Has anybody found out the cause?
It started a few months ago and I ignored it, but now it is really annoying.
I put my phone into safe mode and it still happens. I assume this means it must be a preloaded app?
I installed a notification history app and nothing is listed when it happens!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
