Mine failed miserably from a short height (see attached)
I have found the panels online for approx £100 - are these easy to replace yourself and has anyone done this yet?

I doubt it'd be easy to fix due to the waterproofing.
I'd rather pay 200 quid to get Sony to replace it and guarantee the repair.
From how high and landing on what kind of surface?
wasn't from very high at all, couple of feet but concrete.
Just found this on YouTube - looks pretty involved.

Hi All
I managed to crack my screen, touch panel works fine, but the LCD below it is cracked and starting to run.
Does anyone know where I can get one (Shipped to UK) to replace?

Hi
Thanks for the response,
Do you know of any fitting guides?
Cheers
No I don't. But unless you did something like this before, I wouldn't recommend you to do it yourself.

UKTamo, did You already replace your screen?
Judging from the videos taking the X1 apart requires tearing of a lot of protective foils and shieldings. Can they be reattached in an acceptable way? Usually these foils are designed to be glued to the device ONCE and replaced when the device is taken apart, can they be re-used (since replacements are not around afaik)?
I scratched my screen and since a new one is not all that expensive I'm thinking about replacing it, but it would mean taking the entire device apart, and I'm a little concerned about getting it back together in an ordered manner with all these fragile foils and strong adhesives in it...
I've already replaced the lcd of my xperia with success.
See here: http://www.x1i.it/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=326
You can easily glue the foils with stick glue for paper.

$65? Not bad at all. I know I'm going to break my screen at some point. Just seems inevitable that something so nice and shiny is bound to fall under my foot / kneecap / arse / limitless rage / limitless clumsiness at some point. Happened to my N95 within 8 months, afterall. I feel much less scared of the situation now I know it won't be £150 as I'd been fearing.
Good find, dude.

You're such an optimist !
Heres the link: http://mobile.brando.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-replacement-front-battery-cover_p04302c0670d088.html
I have no idea how to replace the front cover.. anyone can shed some light on this?
Make sure you have the right tools and plenty of time to do it properly without damaging anything. Maybe you should send it to an SE service center if you're not confident enough to do this, I don't think its very expensive either (about £30 in the UK for new case plus their labour).
Disassemble existing cover:

Good luck!
Thank you for the reply! Helped heaps!
Im from australia, just called up and it cost 150 dollars (approx 90 euros). way too expensive. Its also the only place that stocks replacement covers.
I do have a question though, the videp shows disassembly inside out.. Is this the only way to just replace the front cover? going through all that steps looks complicated n dangerous.

Unfortunately it is the only way. Here is a thread about my and others experience of doing this....it may help you both http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550258
How would I be able to seperate the front touch screen form the rear?
Like the one at the VERY start of the video: http://www.mygsmtube.com/videos/181-xperia-x1-disassembly-front.html
How would I disassemble the slider from the keyboard likeat the very start of the video??
Im still baffled about how to do it and afraid to experiment..
Damn it. I just dropped my SGS from about a foot and a half off the floor and the glass/screen cracked. The phone still works fine but I don't think I can live with it like this. Is it possible to get it fixed? How expensive an endeavor is it to get the glass replaced?
Edit: I don't know if it makes any difference but it's really just the glass that is broken. The display still looks fine and works fine. I'm not sure how these things are constructed and if just the glass can be replaced or if the entire thing needs to be changed. I'm worried that by continuing to use it and carry it around in my pocket that the display may become damaged.
What are the chances that I can get samsung or bell to replace it outright if I stress test it and the SD/motherboard fails again.

If you decide to change the screen on your own, check my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745262. Replacing my own screen thru repair service would have cost 250€ and by changing it by myself it cost 90€. These days you can get new screen from ebay with ~50€.
Where did you spend the extra 40€ above the cost of the screen? I've not read anything about the repair process but did find some ebay listings for replacement screens for $55, which isn't bad at all.

Phone was very new on the market when I bought the screen. That's the reason why screen cost 90€ then. 2 weeks after I bought it the price dropped to ~50€
Standard story, cracked lcd.
Been looking around ebay for a screen and its catastrophically expensive. Anyone have some faulty dell or a working screen to sell me? I have pay pal and will pay for device + shipping.
If anyone can help I would be very gratefull.

Can anyone confirm that this is what i need to replace my broken screen?
That's the part you need. Ask them if tools come with that. You will need a plastic pry tool and very-very small screwdriver
I can see that 1st 2 parts to dissasemble are glued to the device, how will I put them back? Is that some special glue?

I ordered from here last time I broke the screen:
"New users can't post urls"
Search ebay user love-for-america
Fast shipping and REALLY came from Anaheim, CA in a US Postal Service Priority Mail box. I'm in San Diego so it took just a couple days. There is one green pixel when the screen is supposed to be black but most of the time it's not noticeable and it's a whole lot better than trying to live with half of the screen bleeding. $106 with tools and free shipping.
Hi everyone,
After 1 and half years my screen has broke yesterday, it fell a stupid fall on charger and broke from top speaker side, even though screen protector is on and case is on. It is what it is.
I am not planning to replace this device, I'll fix screen, so any recommendations? Anyone experienced screen replacement? Did you send it back to supplier or you replaced it your self?
Should I get screen replacement with frame or just screen and I keep my frame?( Not a scratch on my frame). Any place you recommend to get new screen?
Should I use T7000 glue or is there something better?
Any advises to consider while fixing it?
Any comment is appreciated.
My first question would be, have you ever done a screen replacement before? Because if you haven't then I'll recommend taking it to a reputable repair shop nearby considering you are not planning to buy another phone. Also just get the screen fixed no point in changing the frame as you said it's in good shape. But if you really wanna experience the bliss and accomplishment that is fixing your own device then always follow IFixIt guides and before opening it up or ordering parts read about your device's repairability. Also asking your friends and other people around you for a good repair shop would be a good idea.

Hi,
regarding your first question, not for a mobile phone, because i know how to take care of my stuff, except this time (sigh). but of course i've done it for a laptop of my friend, and many many many electrical fixes. so do not worry about me doing it my self as it is my thing to do things my self.
regarding asking about the frame, i am asking this just to see if any one experienced replacing it without frame and how well was it sealed compared to pre and properly sealed. got my point?
Thanks for your valuable advice,

Okay, this means that it'll be easy for you to repair your device, as for the frame I think you can buy a silicone seal as well and comes in a plastic case so it'll be easy to line it up, even If it doesn't you can buy sealing glue and do it yourself, it'll definitely be much cheaper than getting the whole frame. I do get your point now.

Oh okay, I thought it was weird, I hope you're able to fix your device and 20-35 would certainly be worth it if it did make the repair convenient for you.
