Does anyone know the most favorable way to buy the Nexus 6 on AT&T network?
Advantages and disadvantages of each? Price, signal strength, customer service, warranty, etc?
It'll cost more through AT&T, unless on a 2 year contract, then you'll save money but be locked in for the next 2 years. If you don't mind paying the full AT&T price (which is more than Play or Moto) but don't have it to pay up front, you can use AT&T Next, then you pay for the phone monthly on top of your bill. If you have a 10GB or higher Mobile Share Value data plan you get $25 knocked off your bill, so it can actually kind of even out in the long run. Also, it looks like from the reports that the AT&T will have the globe branding on the back. Otherwise, everything else should be the same between the 3. Warranty is from the manufacturer so that doesn't change across the board. I'm sure it's the standard 12 month warranty. I can't speak for customer service though. I've never really had to call AT&T for much of anything and I've been with them since Cingular.

Basically, if you have the money to pay full price, I'd get it through GPS or Moto...if you can catch one before they sell out every Wednesday (GPS). So availability might be better through AT&T as well. That remains to be seen at the moment. They're supposed to start shipping today from AT&T.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated.
Can anyone add to the customer service piece in regards to Moto or Google in the event of warranty issues?
The Play Store has been a Pita about shipping, but I wouldn't order from AT&T unless you want 32 GB and the death star logo.
I personally didn't care about the logo. I already ordered a dbrand skin for mine. I'm also willing to bet even though the phone is already massive, 80% of the people complaining about the AT&T branding will have a case on the phone, probably even with case manufacturer branding. :cyclops:
I bought mine from moto and it works fine on ATTs terrible network here. I get mildly better signal but not by much.
I had talked to Play Store's support and they told me that if I purchase through Play Store they will give me 2 years of warranty.

Two years support is nice but I doubt I'll ever keep a phone for two years.

Any issues with the ATT Store on Bringing Your Own Device? I ASSume you needed to get the nanoSIM and not simply swap the SIM from your previous device...

I am not on ATT, but with Verizon. You should be able to take your previous SIM and just pop it in and go. That is all I did with My N6. I pulled the SIM from my Moto X 2nd Gen and popped it in and I was good to go. Hope this helps.
I know I had issues with the Pure Edition Moto X. AT&T would only give h+ and not LTE. The work around was to give them an AT&T IMEI.

Assuming you want or will settle for the only phone AT&T is selling then:
It almost completely depends on the contract you have or want to have.
After that it depends on who you want to deal with if there are phone issues.
It is annoying that AT&T is marking the phone up. That makes Next not be an interest-free loan. On the plus side it means you can discard that Next advantage from your decision process.
Well, we now know buying through AT&T the Nexus 6 comes:
Carrier branding on back
Carrier lock
Higher total price
Anyone know when AT&T stores will have Nexus 6 in stock? They had to ship all of them back to Motorola.

I have ATT and took the nexus 6 to get the new sim.
I just had them give me a sim and did not want the IMEI on the account.
No issues with LTE at all. I did change my APN settings to match my Nexus 5 and have not had any issues.

Are there network differences between AT&T, Google and Moto N6?
Based on the AT&T, Google and Motorola web sites, the Network and Bands of the Nexus 6 appears to be different:
AT&T
4G-LTE Bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 25, 26, 29, and 41
4G HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul
3G - UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
Google (North America)
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
CDMA Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE Bands: 2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/25/26/29/41
CA DL Bands: B2-B13, B2-B17, B2-29, B4-B5, B4-B13, B4-B17, B4-B29
Motorola
Networks
GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSPA+, 4G LTE
Bands - Americas Model (XT1103)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
CDMA (800, 1900, secondary 800 MHz)
WCDMA (1, 2, 4, 5, 8)
LTE (2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 29, 41)
CA DL (B2-B13, B2-B17, B2-29, B4-B5, B4-B13, B4-B17, B4-B29)
Is it significant that:
The AT&T 4G-LTE list includes band 20, while the other 2 LTE lists do not include this band
AT&T lists "4G HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul" while Motorola lists "HSPA+" without "enhanced backhaul" and Google says nothing about HSPA+
The AT&T 3G - UMTS list includes 2100MHz, while the other two spec lists do not include 2100MHz anywhere
Google doesn't include "3G" or "UMTS" while Motorola lists "UMTS" without any frequency specs
What I'm trying to understand is, if I buy a Nexus 6 from Google or Motorola for use on the AT&T network, will I miss out on some network capability or performance due to the differences in the Network/Band specifications?
If I will be missing out on something, how significant might it be?
TIA
I just bought a Google Play version, I really hope I am not missing any bands or need to use a AT&T IMEI from the store again like I did with the N5... that was a pain.

Let us know how your experience goes with AT&T. Please report back.
AT&T Nexus 6 still out of stock at local stores.
I have a google play version and I'm using it on cricket and LTE works just fine.

Hey guys i just had a few questions for the nexus one users out there..by the way i am finally giving in and deciding to buy a nexus one!! I waited and waited to see if there were going to be any better phones coming out, but for some reason the nexus one just calls my name, its a perfect phone.
Anyways my dad has current service with at&t (the $60 individual plan) and i am pretty sure he already completed his two year contract. I was thinking of adding a line to his account and purchase a nexus one to use with it. My question was if i were to buy the n1, would there need to be a requirement to establish a new contract?
Also in your personal opinions, is the n1 better on the at&t or t-mobile network?
Thanks i cant wait to get the phone!

No. It's $529... then you just add the line to your service. The only time you would have to start a new contract with the phone is if you opt for the $179 deal through T-Mobile (AT&T doesn't have a deal like that).

Depends on where you live and what you want.
T-Mobile is the only provider that allows you to have a smart phone on a non-contract plan without requiring you pay for a data package. So if you have steady access to WiFi, it really isn't worth paying extra for data, and using Google Voice for free unlimited texting means that T-Mobile is by far the cheapest non-contract option.
AT&T generally has better overall 3G/coverage nationwide (they certainly do where I live in Utah), but if you go non-contract with them, you still have to pay for data.
T-Mobile is rolling out HSPA+ all over the USA, and people are reporting 6-7mbps speeds. Check out androidforums.com/nexus-one
If I were you, and if data/3G was important, I'd check your local AT&T retailers and have them show you speed tests.
It seems in general ATT nexus users don't have signal issues like the t-mobile nexus users often have. But that's just a general observation. It all depends on your specific area.
Me personally, ATT will have stronger service cause ATT uses 850 and 1900 mhz, where t-mobile uses 1700/2100 mhz. So ATT's 850 is much stronger signal penetration and range. I think this is partially why t-mobile users get that flaky 3g issue. But also ATT 3g has a head start on coverage over t-mobile, so they will catch up eventually.
...and the nexus one would be subject to follow the new data usage rules for at&t right? I think its 250 mb for $15 and 2 gb for $25.
Hmm ok, i do want to go with the cheapest option here and it sounds like if i go ahead and try out t-mobile they will eventually upgrade to hspa+ network...
Does the upgraded network on t-mobile mean that current 3g phones (like the nexus one) would be able to use it?
current tmobile 3g phones (including N1) are already ready for the hspa+
i sell tmo and att (amongst other carriers) i also have both carriers. the high speeds you can get on the tmo hspa+ are nice, but inconsistent.
go AT&T. pay a little more, but have a far better network.
Get T-Mobile service if you can get 3G service where you are.
i would vote for at&t. one of my buddy's using t-mo, and as mentioned before inconsistent with their network
I am on AT&T and T-Mobile gave me a free phone with unlimited free service which I stopped using because the audio quality was horrible and people kept complaining how bad it sounded.
I vote AT&T.
if you travel, tmobile really doesnt work outside metro areas and highways. just food for thought. at&t works in more rural areas as well. I dont have any issues with my at&t nexus, dont know about the tmobile version. Mine is for sale if you are interested, I need the money towards importing a phone at retail. Pm me if you are interested.
Okay thanks for all the help!
For context let me say that I live in the US, currently on Verizon, but not on contract. I have been waiting since February for a device worthy of upgrading from my Droid Incredible. This is the phone for me.
Given that the US carriers seem incapable of getting new high-end hardware (7 months for SGSII to launch here is the US!!!), and that there has been no announcement of this phone on any US carrier, I am planning for the worst.
I am unfamiliar with GSM networks, having been on Verizon's CDMA for 10+years. My understanding is that I simply need a SIM card from a GSM carrier, say AT&T, and an "unlocked" GSNote from the UK. Is there any risk this won't work? I would hate to spend a ton of money for a phone I can't use.
Any news on a US release.
The galaxy note selling right now is unlock and the 3G band will work on AT&T USA 850/1900 bands and get edge on tmobile.

3G > Edge?
Does it use standard SIM or the new Micro SIM?
Any suggestions on where / who to buy from in UK? Reputable seller.

Yes, 3G > EDGE. EDGE is the GSM equivalent to 1x.
The biggest benefit of GSM network is the ability to swap phones around by just swapping the sim card as long the phone is network unlocked.
GNote from europe is network unlocked.
All you have to do is visit and att store, get a sim and a plan.
Once u get a sim and a number, u can put it in any gsm phone and use it .

Im using AT&T and I order the device from mobilecotyonline.com but no ETA but negrielectronics have instock also in the US the two retailers sell the unlock device with AT&T 3G bands and regular SIM Card.
Buy an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note. Put it on Straight Talk Mobile prepaid for $45/month which uses AT&T's network. You would have to buy a refurbed Nokia E71 phone for $99 to do it and put the sim card in the Note with some settings changes. You get unlimited talk/text/data with no contract using AT&T's 3G network.
I too must have this device. My contract with verizon ends in a couple of weeks and i was planning to renew and get the galaxy nexus but after seeing the galaxy note, well....anyway i'd like to wait for the korean release of the note since it's supposed to have lte. will that model work on verizon or do i need to switch to at&t no matter what? if the lte note will work on verizon, i was thinking getting the nexus with contract renewal and then selling it to get the note.
Seth - I can recommend Expansys.co.uk

Verizon uses CDMA which is not compatible if the Korean version is GSM. Only way is if it was released as a world phone with both CDMA and GSM built in.
What about speeds?
It sounds like getting a European version will limit the data speeds here in the US due to compatibility of data technology faster than 3G. I don't know if T-Mobile or AT&T have anything faster than 3G, but the CDMA carriers (Sprint and Verizon) have 4G (WiMax/LTE) data.
So I could wait for any US carrier to offer it, but it seems only Sprint or Verizon would provide high speed data. If only T-Mobile or AT&T carry it I would do better to get one from UK to get it earlier.
Of course all these issues would go away if US carriers would get decent f'ing hardware!!!
Why is it that all the good stuff launches in Europe first anyway?

I almost sure for thi syear non US carrier launch the Note,You can wait to see but if you like a carrier have this device remember just AT&T 3G?HSPA+ version pass the FCC till the moment and I think is because they know users in the US sure buy this device and they test to skip future problems not because a carrier in the US have this.
I am a bit confused. Would it have faster than 3G data if it was released on T-Mobile or AT&T as opposed to importing one from Europe?

The speed of your device is influence by your carrier the device is ready to run like from 28 to 40 M,sorry don‘t be more specific but you can check the database of the device.
OP, if you leave Verizon for AT&T you'll get HSPA+ speeds (aka: fake 4G). You can typically expect 3MBish down in areas where AT&T hasn't upgraded their backhaul and 6-8MB down where they have. Anybody that uses a non-AWS device on T-Mobile is nuts.
Because the device isn't recognized on AT&T's network you can save a bunch of money on voice and data. You can get a $39.99 450 minute voice plan (900 = $59.99) with 5,000 nights and weekends minutes (900 = unlimited). Add unlimited messaging with mobile to any mobile calling (any mobile on any carrier) for $20 and you can add unlimited data for $10 on the data for non-Smartphones plan. So you're close to a truly unlimited plan for $69.99 a month. Also, if you bring your own equipment (tell them you're using a Moto Krzr) you can go contract-less and leave any time you want. I did this in May coming from T-Mobile when I got my ISGS2. I don't know if you travel internationally but, if you do, having AT&T and an unlocked phone is a joy. They have great international data roaming plans and you can also buy a pay-as-you-go plan in any country you visit and just pop the SIM in to the Note. If you want to go the route I described you have to do it over the phone, it can't be done online.

No, HSPA+ is the fastest speed you can get on AT&T short of LTE. The ASGS2 and ISGS2 get the same speeds on AT&T's network with a theoretical max of 21MB down. If AT&T introduces an LTE version of the Note then yes, that would be faster. T-Mobile's a non-starter because: A) they use funky bands that aren't typically supported by international devices, and B) they'll probably be gone soon anyway.

Two things. The Korean versions of Samsung products are optimized for the two Korean carriers. They are tri-band, not quad-band like the rest of the world and don't support AT&T's bands. Also, LTE is a moving target. There are over a dozen different spectrums in use worldwide so there's no assurance a device designated LTE will work with a specific carrier. VZW and AT&T both use the 700 series bands yet their devices are incompatible.

They can detect a phone's model based on its IMEI. They don't have the IMEI's for international phones in their database. The exception being Google phones (including the new Galaxy Nexus) because Google makes that data available to them. So they can't identify an ISGS2 as a smartphone. The ASGS2 is both a different model number and they have the IMEIs for all of those models produced.
Might suggest sticking with Verizon buy the phone out right and get the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot then use that as your data and if you need to talk VOIP / SIP never worry about min. Benefit you can use the MIFI on your laptop and any other Wifi enabled devices. Other benefit is the price a heck of a lot cheaper than those Cell contracts. Just an idea..
Basically my old Sensation is screaming die and I have my eyes on the Moto X, but I can't decide if I should wait and stick with T-Mobile or switch to AT&T. Main things I'm considering:
I would like to use Moto Maker, which AT&T has for at least 2 months (according to rumors).
T-Mobile should be getting the black or white versions "soon."
T-Mobile's plans are $10-20 per month cheaper for my situation, assuming current cost estimates of the Moto X.
T-Mobile might have less bloatware (no carrier branding in the notification area).
I guess what it really comes down to: Is AT&T's network/user experience that much better than T-Mobile's to justify the increased cost, bloatware, and exclusive customization? While the weight of Moto Maker is definitely a personal thing, please let me know your thoughts on the difference in the networks? Having only used a smartphone the T-mobile network, I just don't know if there would even be a discernible difference.
Thanks! :good:

It will vary from city to city, but unless I was really strapped for cash, I'd pay $10 extra for AT&T. Here in DC, I'm always on LTE on ATT, but on T-Mobile I'd say I saw edge at least a couple of times per week.

Good to know thanks! I guess my only worries with respect to the bloatware is the AT&T logo in the notification area and something about an app that constantly popups asking to use it when calling someone (or something like that, it may have just been speculation I read).
I was going to start a new topic, but this forum is essentially the subject I wanted to ask about:
I'm thinking about getting the T-Mobile version of the Moto X because from everything I've read in these forums it's a bloatware-free device and has an unlocked SIM and (maybe) an unlockable bootloader.
I'd get the device to use on AT&T. What are the disadvantages of doing this (if any)?
-It sounds like there could be issues activating? Should I count on any such issues being surmountable?
-Will I receive over-the-air software updates?
-Will signal strength be in any way impacted?
-Will I have all the frequencies I need? I saw someone write that the T-Mobile version supports LTE bands 4 , 12 , 17 and the AT&T version supports bands 2, 4, 5, 17. It seems like in the USA AT&T only uses 4 and 17?
-What about 3G and voice signals?
-Using the phone overseas, say, Europe?
-Will any of this affect battery life compared with just using an AT&T phone on the AT&T network?
-People have said that if you unlock the bootloader you void the warranty. Whose warranty--Motorola's? Would this include dropping the phone and breaking the glass? I was considering getting an extended warranty--would someone like SquareTrade care about an unlocked bootloader if physical damage occurred?
Lastly, people have said that the AT&T version of the phone is not bad in terms of bloatware. Does anyone think it makes more sense to just get the AT&T version of the phone?
That's a lot of questions. Any insight into any of them will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
This might help you guys to decide:
The reason T-Mobile users need to get this model is because it's the only Moto X which supports T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 network on the AWS band. The AT&T-compatible Moto X supports T-Mobile's LTE, but not the HSPA band, which means that if you fall off of LTE you'll be in T-Mobile's much more limited, slower 1900MHz HSPA+ 21 coverage.

Okay, I'll answer what I can here. I just got my tmo Moto X from the recent discount and I have lines with both T-Mobile and AT&T.
-It sounds like there could be issues activating? Should I count on any such issues being surmountable?

I had no issues swapping either operator's SIM into my phone. It was SIM unlocked out of the box and the AT&T SIM worked great--native tethering even worked without a mod (sadly still see no solution for native tmo tethering).
-Will I receive over-the-air software updates?

I would expect you to receive the same OTA updates as anyone running a tmo Moto X regardless of the att SIM.
-Will signal strength be in any way impacted?

No. Many AT&T devices display more bars for a given signal strength than the same device on other operators (i.e. AT&T falsely makes signal look better than it is); I don't know if the AT&T Moto X does that or not, but it's just a display thing and not an actual difference.
-Will I have all the frequencies I need? I saw someone write that the T-Mobile version supports LTE bands 4 , 12 , 17 and the AT&T version supports bands 2, 4, 5, 17. It seems like in the USA AT&T only uses 4 and 17?

My understanding is that those frequencies are correct. I get LTE on both operators just fine.
-What about 3G and voice signals?

I haven't had any issues with either. Your frequency bands are all covered for everything AT&T does here in the US.
-Using the phone overseas, say, Europe?

The AT&T version may be more likely to get LTE there--I am not familiar with the LTE bands used in Europe--but neither will have trouble attaching to the various European 3G networks (assuming you somehow convince AT&T to give you a SIM unlock code, or pay for one). Also if you include Canada in your calculations, a number of their networks will benefit from HSPA over AWS.
-Will any of this affect battery life compared with just using an AT&T phone on the AT&T network?

It shouldn't.

Yes, Motorola's warranty. As for other stuff, you'd have to ask SquareTrade (or whoever) to be sure, but I don't really see how unlocking the bootloader would make them reluctant to replace your cracked-glass phone.
Lastly, people have said that the AT&T version of the phone is not bad in terms of bloatware. Does anyone think it makes more sense to just get the AT&T version of the phone?

If you're buying unlocked anyway, I think the tmo version is an easy choice unless you desperately need a new nano-SIM (though I think AT&T will give you one for free if you drop by a store). The bloatware may not be that bad on the AT&T version, but you have to use some awkward hacks to get system r/w and the like. Of course if you're willing to do that, then you can kill the bloatware anyway.

Funny you should mention that. The AT&T 4.4 build has 5 bars to display the cellular signal strength, the tmobile 4.4 build only has 4. It is quite odd they are not the same, wonder who wanted something different...

I believe AT&T using five bars vs. T-Mobile's four predates their cheating on signal strength, but I could be wrong. I've only been a T-Mobile customer for about a year (and have now almost entirely phased out AT&T, woohoo!).
The lesson is that signal bars are misleading at best, meaningless and confounding at worst. Check the numeric signal strength if you're interested in knowing how good your signal really is.
Super-awesome reply! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. It really helps my decision process (I'm feeling emboldened to go for the T-Mobile version), and I'm sure this will help others as well. Thanks again!

As someone who just received his discounted Off-Contract T-Mobile Moto X, I have to recommend it. I got the $150 promotional discount and was curious myself as to which carrier version to buy. From all of the information gathered here on XDA, I made the choice to go with T-Mobile (and have no regrets, yet). I'd go into details on why I chose T-Mobile and such, but teiglin has already provided great (and accurate) answers to your questions.
So instead, I'll give you a quick recap:
- The T-Mobile version of the Moto X has absolutely no branding that I can find. Literally the only T-Mobile symbol I could find on the phone (software or hardware) was inside of it, on the T-Mobile Nano-SIM card.
- [From what I've read: motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/87215/] The T-Mobile version is essentially the developer's edition without the additional warranty coverage for unlocking your bootloader.
- The T-Mobile version of the Moto X has almost the same frequency bands as the AT&T version (except it also supports the HSDPA 1700 MHz band and doesn't support the LTE 850 MHz band)

My Moto X usage:
I'm a former AT&T customer, having recently switched to Straight Talk through their BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) program. I was still using the Motorola Atrix with a Mini-SIM card purchased from Straight Talk (the AT&T compatible one).
After receiving the $150 promo code and remembering the $100 old Motorola phones trade in program, it seemed like the right time to make the move and upgrade ($500 retail down to $250 after rebates/promotions). I placed my order on December 5th and was told it would arrive by the 10th (came on the 11th due to snow).
Once I got my Moto X, all I had to do was cut my Mini-SIM card down to a Nano-SIM card. Templates can be found here: airportal.de/nanosim/. Aside from the network cutting in and out (lasted for the first 10 minutes or so), I've had no problems since. I have access to 4G LTE and everything else seems to be working fine (haven't tried tethering yet).
In the end, I'd recommend the T-Mobile version just because there is no branding and it works fine on the AT&T network as well.
Thanks for adding to teiglin's reply! Good information for anyone interested in this phone!

I got the TMO version for use on AT&T. No branding at all.
I went to the AT&T store and they put in a new sim. I'm getting perfect service though I only see the 4G at the top. Wondering if I should also be seeing 4GLTE? Is there something else I need to do to get LTE speeds? Or am I already getting them and just don't see it?
Look here in xda, you won't get lte unless ATT registers your Moto with an imei from another ATT Moto. I had the same issue. There's a post here in xda where you will see what I had to do and who helped me

I remember reading somewhere a chat between a potential customer and a Motorola rep. The rep said that unlocking it voids the entire warranty with Motorola, hardware included. So you would have to check with whoever else you could get the warranty with.

Sorry for the late response. I actually had to check my phone a few times just to confirm my thoughts before posting them here. I can't really comment on 4G and 4G LTE for AT&T, because I have Straight Talk. But from what I've read, I believe Straight Talk piggy-backs on AT&T's network as is, so I'd imagine it'd have to be similar.
I've been noticing the 4G icon in the notification bar also indicates 'LTE', although not all the time. There are times where I also see only the 4G icon without the 'LTE' symbol, during which speed tests have been much slower. Can't confirm what r_diaz13 posted, and I don't know if what he's saying applies to people on Straight Talk's network.

This is WRONG.
Totally NOT necessary to use an IMEI from a different LTE phone.
I just activated an XT1053 (the TMo version, which is SIM unlocked).
Put in an AT&T nano-sim card which I picked up from my AT&T company owned store.
Called in to activate the card -- but asked to talk to 2nd level support since I knew 1st level would NOT be able to help and likely tell me the same kind of dumb stuff I've seen posted about how to get the phone to work.
2nd level support was great -- and because I knew what I was talking about, it took less than 5 min to take care of what is necessary.
You will need to manually enter MMSC and MMS Proxy in the APN settings
MMSC should be:
don't enter with the dash at front and back, the forum doesn't let you post what they think are links if you are new.
MMS proxy should be:
proxy.mobile.att.net
Just as an FYI -- these settings are BURIED (you cannot see them) on the AT&T version --
And these settings are NOT DOWNLOADED AUTOMATICALLY via SIM card (I thought they might be).
You can confirm whether you are getting LTE service not only by the indicator in the status bar up at the top with signal strength but by going into ABOUT PHONE from the Settings menu (scroll all the way down). Then in that menu, click on STATUS. Here you will scroll down and see the battery level, network signal strength and mobile network type.
If you are getting 4G only, it would should HSPA+.
If you are getting LTE, it will show LTE here.
Hope that helps.
I'm just a bit weary of seeing the wrong information on this and hope this helps others out. The TMo version works great on AT&T, you just have to enter the MMSC and MMS proxy manually and you should be good to go.
Did you have an LTE plan before? I'm telling you it is true. The xda member that helped me out is an att employee who works at a att store and he was the only one able to do it. He told me since I didn't have an lte plan before it wouldn't just pick up lte. ATT has to end other feature in the account. When I gave then the tmo imei, it shows up as gsm only, not lte.
So if you already have lte, you are good to go with just a simple sim swap. If you don't have lte already, you need to follow these steps. Nothing to do with APN settings or anything.

This is wrong information -- hopefully people here read through to get the accurate information.
I did NOT have an LTE plan before (I had a Moto Atrix 4G, which gave me HSPA+ service).
When I gave them the IMEI from the TMo Moto X I purchased, I asked them specifically, what does it show in your system?
2nd level support told me it was a non-ATT version of the Moto X -- totally accurate.
She then knew exactly what settings were needed (as I noted above in my post) to be entered. These settings are not shown anywhere on the AT&T version of the Moto X (again, I know because I have 3 of those that I unlocked).
To be clear to anyone else thinking of getting the TMo version of the Moto X. You do not need to lie and give them some other IMEI. You simply need to make sure you have those settings input into your phone. As soon as they were entered, my TMo XT1053 showed LTE service.
Please do not continue to give out wrong information -- this may have solved the problem for you (to give a different IMEI), but it is totally not necessary. I have seen people asking about how they are supposed to get an LTE IMEI to activate a nano sim card and get LTE service. It is not necessary on the TMo version (now Moto says this is the GSM unlocked version -- which is really more accurate because it has absolutely NO BRANDING and no other software from any provider -- and is exactly the same as the Dev Edition except for the fact that the Dev edition can be bootloader unlocked and retain its warranty).
I have the Dev Version (same as T-Mobile) running on Straight Talk with AT&T. Other than one small configuration issue in the phone settings LTE is working fine.
I know MetroPCS piggyback off of tmo, but does anyone have any concrete info whether the nexus 6 will just work as intended on metroPCS, utilizing the same frequency/radio band as tmo? TIA!
It'll work fine
But does it utilize all the major bands that tmo are using, or will tmo segment off a few to prevent saturation on their own users?

T-Mobile and MetroPCS use the same bands and towers. The Nexus 6 will work perfectly on both.
However, when it comes to network saturation, T-Mobile Post-paid customers get priorizitation over MetroPCS, pre-paid, and MVNO subscribers. But that has nothing to do with the phone. The phone itself will work the same exact way on Metro as it would on T-Mo.
I'm curious if anyone has ever actually activated one and seen it work first hand because Metro says the Motorola XT1103 is NOT compatible. Sorry for necro'ing a thread but I'm dying to leave sprint and they're the only decent unlim carrier around me without paying $100+/mo to get near unlim.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the speeds... I'll usually pull 30-75 down and put up 15-30 on my crappy free 4g lte phone I used with Metro when I had to send my N 6 in for repair... That explains things they refuse to admit. Sigh. Thank you.

Yeah the MetroPCS compatible search is old and outdated trust me the N6(XT1103) works on MetroPCS
Here is another user with n6 and metropcs. Just got the microsim from their website and activated it with my imei number and done.
I'm on a Nexus 6 with MetroPCS and have no issues. With metro you need to call them to add the imei number of the device to their data base.

When I had MetroPCS- WiFi calling (which I needed because Metro/Tmo don't have signal at my house) only worked for calling and SMS. MMS sending and receiving didn't work. But LTE and everything else worked fine.
Can anyone chime in and say if WiFi calling works with MMS now? I might want to switch back, especially now if they still have the 2 lines for $60 with 6gb of data promotion.
Hi, I'm getting a good deal on a Nexus 6 from AT&T unlocked ($650), but I've read a lot of complaints about the bloatware, and also that some units were sold deffective by then, the price is really really good, would you recommend me to buy it even if it comes from AT&T? If you aren't from USA, then you need to check the bands of the Americas edition to where you plan on using it because it may not support all the bands.

Also AT&T "unlocked" is SIM card locked so unless its coming unlocked because your post isn't specific by carrier unlock or bootloader unlock.
The bloatware is included with your AT&T SIM card so if you don't put a AT&T sim card inside then it won't preload bloatware from Play Store.
The AT&T logo can be scraped off.
This is what it says:
Carrier: Unlocked
Contract: Without Contract
I'm good with the bands, so based on this information, it means that I can use it with my SIM card right? what about this article, I'm concerning about being one of the "lucky" guys:

Not a expert when it comes to that but couldn't you just flash factory images? Where are you buying this phone from? Online or offline?
If its offline, then check his Android version and all that. Try putting your SIM card in there before making the purchase.
If its online, then you kind of have to take his word. Theres a reason why hes selling it that cheap, $650 when he has to pay taxes (and possibly shipping) that will round to be $700+ unless he purchased it from a store which he will still have to pay taxes.
Also you'd have to check IMEI to see if the phone has been reported to be stolen.
I'd wait and get one when you can from Google/Motorola. I'd only recomend the ATT version if you for sure aren't leaving ATT and want the contract subsidy.
Thank you both, I'm not from USA, I'm actually buying it from eBay. Regarding being stolen, you have a point there, the photos in the listing shows a box and all that, I could also start a dispute on eBay if that would be the case, should I go for it I can't wait for Google or Motorola, I have a relative in USA right now, and she's coming back the first week of december, and I don't see any move from Google or Motorola to restock or either send the phones to retail stores.
Thanks a lot.

They restock every Wednesday but you're right.. the chances of getting it from there is impossible because people are always ordering and even if you did make it through, you'll have to wait for 2-3 weeks or more to have your order shipped. Alternatively, you can buy the phone outright and have the cell service for 30 days.
What country are you from? USA shipping is a bit random right now because of Thanksgiving as well. Its the most busy traffic day/week for us throughout the whole year.
Don't scare me man! I hope that if I get that one it arrives on time, I'm actually from El Salvador, and I'm trying to get it while my sister is in US since Nexus is not being sold here. I guess I'll take my chances and if everything goes wrong, I'll have to open a dispute, what do you say? I don't think is stolen though.
Thanks!
