I am in trouble. What am I supposed to do. I want to wait for the GPS Nexus 6 since it can connect to any network but I am a Tmobile customer that needs the wifi calling feature.
I get very limited reception at home and at work. Does anyone know if the GPS nexus 6 will support Tmobile's wifi calling feature?
This might be a deal breaking and I have no choice but to get the Tmobile Nexus 6. Please help!!!
you should direct your question to @askdes on twitter. he should know what's up.
I'm pretty sure it's been said several times that this phone will support Wi-fi calling with T-Mobile, but not until after the phone has received an OTA update early next year.
I think you mean GPE.
And we don't know yet. Theoretically, since there isn't a difference between the versions, WiFi Calling should be able to be ported to the other carrier's (or GPE) Nexus 6.
Until the software update drops, you can use Google hangouts to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.
T-Mobile's press release...
Plus, this hot new smartphone is expected to support Wi-Fi Un-leashed beginning in early 2015 with an over-the-air update– making it the first-ever Nexus device that will support Wi-Fi Calling thanks to enhancements in Android 5.0.

Wifi calling is not T-Mobile specific.
Apple has it built into iOS8 and it is very easy to use and works flawless. Android 5.0 will include WiFi Calling built in for all devices, the N6 on T-Mobile will just benefit from it in the US. Sprint should also make use of it eventually.
htc one nax has wifi calling. lovely app. i retired my sprint airvana as its no longer needed

So last night T-Mobile has announced it's rollout of voLTE, a feature which let's a subscriber use LTE for voice calls.
After doing some research, I learned that voLTE works on the principles of SIP and that currently only 3 phones support it.
Will Google/Qualcomm work on a patch or update to give Nexus 5 this ability?

I really wish I had T-Mobile in my area They're actually pushing for new, cool features. It seems like all other big companies are doing what they can to stagnate the market because they already have the major market shares. I just want to support you, T-Mo! Why don't you want my money!?
All that said, I have Aio (Cricket now) and I've been more than pleased with them. Just want the option of T-Mo and give em a whirl...
I have no idea on the answer to your question though. Enjoy a free bump instead!
the answer is more than likely no.
I love t mobile. Unlimited 4g lte gives me between 20-50mbps everywhere I go. Best part, I'm never throttled. I don't even bother going on wifi anymore as my data connection is always faster. I doubt this will be added to the nexus 5 though unfortunately.
T-mobile has had voLTE in limited market(s) for a few months now. The 'subscription' comment sounds like a no go for prepaid plans.
They said the nexus 6 is going yo get WiFi calling in early 2015. Will the moto x get it ? I mean you its running the same 5.0 its only makes sense that it would.
I think that not only will you need 5.0, T-Mobile will need to send out an update. From what I read, T-Mobile will be sending an update out in 2015 for the N6. My guess is Google actually will, but with T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling framework inside. So, that would lead me to believe that T-Mobile will have to want it added to the moto X in order for it to work.
So most likely it won't happen ...

Idk how T-Mobile is going to do so, when there is only one SKU for the American n6. Also, Google doesn't want tainted software so I don't think carriers are allowed to mess with the system files Google provides. If T-Mobile can, then that means carriers are in control of ota updates then?
I'm thinking if it does come to the n6, I'm sure we can hack that and make it work on the Moto X since both are very similar in software

I sure hope you're right. I was only relaying what T-Mobile said, by pushing out an update. I'd hate for the N6 or our phone turn into the Verizon galaxy nexus.
Any updates on this? Are people with the 2014 Moto X able to use T-Mobile's wifi calling?

Huh, even with Lollipop? I thought Lollipop was supposed to have native wifi calling built into it, that would work with T-Mobile's wifi calling.

It is, or at least a future version will. But.... I'm sure T-Mobile will either need to release an app or give Google the code to add it in and who knows if moto will implement that code, if that's the route T-mo/Google goes.
I guess it could be like an APN where we'd need to enter the correct settings, but I just can't see that as it would be too easy for the masses (not like us here who at least know a little bit) to screw it up.
My honest guess, we'll never see it as T-Mobile doesn't sell this phone in stores or online like they do the Nexus 6. That shouldn't matter, but I can see it being an issue of knowledge base and support (even though the damn thing comes with a T-Mobile Sim). I hope I'm wrong as I'd really like to get WiFi calling back, but in not holding my breath.

Yeah, I really don't want another phone without wifi calling. But I'm hesitating to get the Nexus 6, because of the size. And of course, T-Mobile still have yet to make good on the promise that wifi calling will be enabled on the Nexus 6.
It just doesn't seem like this should be such a big deal. Apple did it on the iPhones and you don't have to buy the iPhone directly from T-Mobile. And T-Mobile has an interest in getting people onto wifi and off of their cellular network, whenever possible.
As everyone may know by now, T-Mobile plans to provide wifi calling to the Nexus 6 in early 2015.
http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/news/t...-to-its-data-strong-network-this-november.htm
My question is if this will only come to T-Mobile purchased Nexus 6 devices or will it be a global update pushed out by Google to allow wifi calling on carriers that provide this service. I would love to go with T-Mobile, but my home does not offer great service on their network. When wifi calling becomes available I'll jump on their network but until then I'll need to stick with either Verizon or AT&T. With that said, could I purchase the phone unlocked through Google Play or through Motorola (financing at 0%) and still use the phone with T-Mobile wifi calling once available?
Thoughts? Any input is appreciated.

Agreed. I know there's only one model for the US. I'm just not sure how this would work. I guess I don't know enough about wifi calling and the update that needs to be pushed for it to work. I know the only current phones that work with T-Mobile wifi calling are T-Mobile phones. I think I read somewhere it's baked into the kernal, but really not sure.
Thanks

I mean it's hard to say for certain until the update is pushed, but odds are what will happen is the update will be pushed to everyone with it restricted to working with t-mobile in the update, since the update is going to be from T-Mobile working with Google. I suppose there's hope that it'll support any carrier that will allow it but I wouldn't hold my breath for that.
Im assuming it will be the same hardware but with different device IDs for each carrier. This way OTAs will be more easily targeted.
It will be pushed to everyone. The same as a Verizon iPhone will work with t mobile Wi-Fi calling.
I was messing around with an unlocked At&t iPhone 5s I had gotten from my daughter which was supposed to have wifi calling pushed to it with ios 8 on T-mobile. Sorry to say it never happened. I am going to wait on the T-mobile sold phone just to be safe.
I don't see them pushing an update to all the phones for WiFi calling.
The way their current WiFi calling works is with a modified kernel. This means that only T-Mobile branded phones that get their updates from T-Mobile will be able to do WiFi calling. However, if they come up with a way for the Nexus 6 to support WiFi calling, i'm guessing it's going to be another app you'll have to install so that it can forward calls to your dialer. I do NOT think that they will push an update out to all Nexus phones to get this to work on ONE carrier. Since the Nexus 4, ALL of the nexus phones are the same across all carriers. At least in the US, if you buy the Nexus 5 from T-Mobile, you got the same Nexus 5 that you'd get from the Google Play Store. It also seems that they're the same phone for overseas too. The reason i say that is because if you look at the Galaxy Nexus (it had multiple versions; including international versions), it had multiple versions of the software, as you can see here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#takju. Takju and Yakju are both the Galaxy Nexus with different software. They haven't done that since.
I think this will be an app you can install on your phone to make it work with WiFi calling. Maybe Google will be pushing out an update to change the kernel to allow this... maybe... but the carriers will still need to build an app and push the users to download it. The carriers have not been allowed to change the software since the Nexus 4.

All nexus 5 phones got the update for sprint spark.
Picked up my Nexus 6 a couple of days ago and it's great but Voice Over LTE does not work on this device. I asked the sales rep at T-Mobile before I bought it about VoLTE and she told me it does have it.
Can anyone verify if this device is even able to use VoLTE?
I'm sure it'll be available in a software update so I wouldn't worry. It's not like the phone isn't capable of it.

She was misinformed, @askdes the Sr. Product guy for T-Mobile confirmed via his Twitter account that while the nexus 6 will not ship/be released with volte or WiFi calling, it will be updated within the next couple of months to support both. In addition it will also support band 12 (700mhz) block a spectrum in the neqr future as well.

I read in several places when the N6 was announced that it does support band 12. What it doesn't have are TMO's libs and kernel modules to make use of this band. The VoLTE and Wifi calling is the issue.
Oh cool, I guess it's just dependent on whether your location has band 12 up and running or not.
Usually I'm not too worried about VoLTE but my area is hurting right now in terms of capacity and backhaul so I cannot even use hangouts to make a stable call while maintaining lte.... Smh.

I have yet to switch my Verizon LTE Nano SIM to my Nexus 6 but I was wondering if Advanced Calling 1.0 is functioning, particularly the HD calling feature. Pretty hard to go back ever since having it with my iPhone 6 Plus.

Greetings from the Bay Area. I stuck my Verizon SIM in my T-Mobile Nexus 6 and I couldn't figure out how to tell if HD Voice was working (since it was too early to call my wife), though when I made a call it switched to 1x in the notification bar. That's a bad sign. I'll do some more testing today and report back. I was especially curious about this as I too I find HD Voice to be awesome on my iPhone 6.
-Collin-
if its anything like tmobiles hd calling, which works on the n6 btw, both phones have to have it before it works. if only one of the 2 phones in the conversation has it, it wont work.
VZW user here. I can confirm that all of the advanced features are not working at this time. In fact the phone is not even capable of simultaneous voice and data.
This is true of several new phones on Verizon including the Droid Turbo, which of course is the carrier locked 5.2 inch version of the Nexus 6. In all likelyhood the Nexus 6 will not see VoLTE or simultaneous voice and data unless Verizon finds it in their hearts to get an update to us N6 users that will turn those things on for us.
I knew all this going in but i hold out hope that Verizon will carry the phone, which would mean an update will eventually hit.
However, should they not carry it I will be ok with the phone as is.

the phone is very capable of phone service and data at the same time. and the phone is compatible to volte. on all other providers besides verizon, it can get voice and data at the same time(verizon is cdma and doesnt support it). that said, verizons volte is just starting to make it out. when you get volte in your area, you will be able to make calls and get data at the same time.
Not true, I have volte on my area and used successfully in the iPhone 6 plus but it does not work on my nexus 6, even after going in and adding advanced calling on my line.

odd, ive talked to a few using their lte lines to connect calls over volte.
Until Verizon issues an update for the Nexus 6, the feature won't work, period.
I'm assuming Google will push out an update that enables it if you are using a verizon SIM, but who knows.
Just wait. If it's a feature you need, you'll have to wait until Verizon officially supports the device.

Verizon phones have had data and voice at the same time in the past, but some newer android phones (Nexus 6, Moto X 2014, G3) don't have it, yet. VoLTE is a bit different, but also limited to certain devices.
This article might help a little:

It it software based e.g. is there an .apk on the droid turbo that allows for it to work? or is it on the core android [system] level that needs to be baked in at the time of building the rom? Obviously where I am going with this is if it's something installed, on the droid turbo for example, can we just lift off those files off and work to get it work in AOSP land?
No there isn't. The Turbo doesn't support it yet. Unfortunately you're going to have to be patient.

I have not tested this, but usually "ro.ril.enable.amr.wideband=1" in build.prop does the trick.

If the N6 supports volte and we are using it before vzw sales the device directly, is Google able to help us activate this feature? Bc i dont see vzw giving an update to phones that are unrecognized and showing as non vzw devices.
Sooo.... I am wondering if volte support will ever work on those of us who chose not to wait til vzw releases their version of the nexus 6?

Verizon will eventually carry the Nexus 6 and will eventually send out the Software update which enables VoLTE. I'm not sure if we will get that update? But we shall see what happens
