Has anyone gotten this to work with the shield tablet yet. I have it installed no problem, but some elements of the screen are not rendered. I got xcom enemy unknown to run fine by just playing the tutorial and saving. .

Oh man, I bought that game the minute it was released, but I couldn't even install it.
From the marketplace, I get the "device not compatible" error...
I tried to find a clean apk pull of it, but I only found the cracked ones (in russian I think?)...
But I'm thinking since I bought the game, all I need is a clean apk, then it can validate my purchase and download directly from the market.
Anyone every tried to get an apk from the Google Play directly? I know you can do it through Titanium backup, but you need to install it first.... , so I'm stuck in a catch-22...
If I ever get to install it, then I'll see if I get the same issues as you!
I purchased and installed on my Note 3 and backed up the apk with "app backup and restore" and uploaded the apk to my Dropbox and then to the shield. The shield then downloaded the 2.5gb once I installed the apk. Worked perfectly except for the non rendered issue.

Been playing it on my phone and it's considerably better than Enemy Unknown which was the mobile game I've played most by a mile. I don't think 2k even cares about supporting more devices. It's a real shame.

I've decided I'm not gonna pay for this game. Already bought enemy unknown at full price and I'm not going to pay again for a company that doesn't even support our tablet.
I've downloaded a pirated copy and this method works alright. Don't get me as a pirate, I've paid hundreds of dollars in apps over the years but I'm not going to give my money to this company anymore until they fix this.
there's hope yet
The following is a conversation that I had with a member of 2K support so there is hope that they will add the Shield to their compatibility lists!
There is a huge community of devoted gamers wanting to buy and play XCOM EU and EW restrained only by our devices not being allowed to download the game on Google Play, please take the little time necessary to add our Shield Tablets and Shield Portable devices to the compatible devices list.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting 2K Support! We greatly appreciate your suggestion and feedback on our game! I'll make sure the correct action and consideration are taken with them.
If you have any other ideas, please let us know, it gives us the opportunity to create an even better game!

When will this happen? Have you actually considered this issue? I think you're missing a great opportunity to sell XCOM to the devoted gamers that own the shield tablet, most of the other casual users of phones, don't care about this $10-12 game whereas many of us are very willing to spend money on this game. Please do what it takes to add the Nvidia Shield Tablet to the XCOM compatability lists.
Thanks,
The Shield community.

Might be worth letting them know it works on the tablet, all they need do is open the compatibility up.

Reckless Racing for Android
Love this game

Looks good. I'ma check it out.
finally, an impressive looking racing game, I might pick this up
Yeah mulitplayer mode is the best...
By far one of the best examples of great graphics and physics, mostly physics. It is somewhat challenging to control but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier.
Why can I not find this in the app store? Im dying for a good racing game.

It got pulled due to their servers being overloaded. It should be back up eventually.
This is the only game that I've seen that is truly impressive. The graphics are amazing for a mobile game (wouldn't look out of place as an xbox live arcade title). The default controls (auto accelerate with left, right and brake) are perfect. If this game came out on PC I'd play it.
I'd love to try it out, but it's not in the Market. When I found a QR code for it, I just got a "file not found" message. I even tried using Market Access. I'm willing to pay for it, but its lack of availability through mainstream channels may force me to look for it elsewhere.

If you do and you like it, please buy it when it comes back on the market. I want games like this to succeed so we get more quality games in future.
Awesome. Sucks it got pulled but I will definitely keep my eye out for it.

Is anyone else having problems getting online with this game?
Yup. I wasn't able to get into a server all weekend.
Single players still fun though. Great game.
Reminds me of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noDi1IzuotM
Found an update on the server issue: http://www.polarbit.com/2010/10/update-reckless-racing/
I hope the gameplay makes up for what Polarbit as a company lacks in class and professionalism. They posted a picture of Johnny Cash giving the middle finger on their website because people are running pirated copies. Maybe if they didn't take it off the market... I'm sure people would pay for it if they actually could. On top of that, they're basically blaming their overloaded servers on the number of pirated copies floating around, which is a bull**** cop out.
It's back on the market. Just got it.

Actually, I did find one through other means, but liked the game enough that I bought it today, since I was finally able to do so. Who's to say if other people are as reputable as I. I would bet that server outage cost them a lot of sales.
I just flat out bought it because of the 24hr return policy but this game is worth it.
Bought it... haven't had much opportunity to play it yet but the minute or so I tried it looks really good.
just bought this game and it's pretty awesome with nice graphics.
Hi I have been trying to decide if I should by this myself by reading reviews and such but, I plan on rooting the device and installing different launchers and apps and I realize this completely changes the nature of the beast. If you could answer a few questions for me it would be greatly appreciated.
1. How fast/laggy is it. If I install launcherpro will it still work well.
2. How difficult is it to get movies encoded for it and how do they look.
3. Has anyone tried installing news apps for android (NY Times, BBC,CNN ext.) Also is netlix possible?
Thank you
1. I tried Launcher Pro, ADW, and Zeal and there is no lag in any of them. I did settle on Zeal for now.
2. I have about 10 movies that I had encoded originally for my evo and they all play great! Just the simple settings in handbrake will work fine.
3. I have USA Today on there now as well as the engadget program and both work great. Haven't tried netflix, don't have a account.

Thanks m8 thats actually a lot of helps a lot. IDK if netflix will work because of all the copyright and DRM but everything else sounds like good news to me. Now if only some could figure out how to get this thing to accept Adhoc networks from my cell phone that eould be great. If anybody else has something to add fell free to go right on ahead.
I actually tried Zeal and didnt like it. I had to put a bunch of icons down in the doc bar to get the doc launcher (the button with all the dots) in the middle where I like it....unless I missed something and dont know how to do it.
I have a huge library of HD (720p BD rips) and SD (DVD rips) movies and TV shows in AVI and MKV containers, will I be able to stream these video files within my home network? (without transcoding)
I'm glad there was already a post for this because I didn't want to create a new thread for it. I was one of the elocity a7 preorders who just had their orders cancelled. (all of us did, elocity insists it's a system error-I call BS) Anyhow i'm trying to decide between the nook color and the gtablet. I really wanted a tegra, but I really wanted a 7 inch device. I know they're not really the same thing, and maybe shouldn't be compared- but can anyone offer some insight as to which they personally prefer? Thanks.
OMG don't get the viewsonic G Tab... I had it for 1 day and had to take it back. Absolutely the worst screen I have ever seen on a device. The worst viewing angles. The nook color is wayyyyy better in my honest opinion and is really fast enough.

Ok, cool. Thanks alot. I really wanted a tegra...but the NC is the form factor I wanted, and I read nothing but great things about the screen. Just wanted to hear from other geeks whether or not i'm going to end up making a huge performance sacrifice or not.
I had a gtablet too and it really was the worst, even rooted and running a special tegra kernel. The nook is amazing and nearly the perfect tablet for me.
If you are asking yourself this question and seriously considering getting a nookColor, keep in mind that B&N has a deal that ends Sunday if you buy $100 in gift certificates you will get $10 back in gift cards (that are activated the day after christmas). I took advantage of this and bought $300 and got $30 in gift cards back which I'm going to use toward accessories (easel case I'm [email protected]). You may want to double check with your store but the manager at the store I went to allowed me to do this (after reading through the 'terms and conditions' on the website he said there was nothing that said it couldn't be done)
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/gift-card/index.asp?cds2Pid=32280
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/help/help_cds2.asp?PID=32063&popupclose=0
The terms say the gift card has to be bought on b&n.com, but the manager said the promotion was running in-store too so it didn't matter.
So the nookcolor, rooted, is a pretty decent slate/tablet?
I want the nookcolor mainly as a tablet: surfing the web, reading reddit, loading .pdf's of books/medical journals/textbooks to read and study from.
I was originally waiting for the archos 101 for $300.....but it seems like it's never going to come out.
The other thing is, since the nookcolor's screen is made for reading, will there be less eye-strain than with other tablets ( ipad, gtablet, archos 101?)

I was wondering this exact same thing, how does this fare as a cheap tablet?
I've done plenty of tweaking and modding with my nexus one so I'm no noob there - is this the deal of the century for someone like me? From what I've seen with a new launcher this thing turns into a serious galaxy tab competitor.
If anyone has any negatives they'd like to list please let me know - I'll probably be buying one of these in a few days.
We are two peas in a pod my friend.
The archos is only $50 more with HDMI,usb ,and a stand. But isn't available yet.
But if the NC screen is better for long-term reading....... who knows.
aaahhh.
Hi everyone, I am seriously considering buying a Nook Color as I really like it's design (something important for me), and want a Tablet device. And at 250$ it sounds like a really good deal. (The Archos 101 here in Greece costs 330 euro -> 440$, so the Nook is considerably cheaper)
My main usage will be: Reading pdfs and watching some .ppt files (I am a senior electrical & computer engineer student and want the Nook for studying), some Web Browsing, and if it is able for some MSN messaging..
Also, I wanted to ask you if it is capable of doing something:
Let's say you are reading a .pdf on your Nook. Is it possible to "handwrite" anything on the .pdf, like you are writing on a piece of paper, and save the file? That would be extremely helpful when studying.
Is there any application that does this?
Thank you very much for your time and help.

While the NC supplier (B&N and it's mfg'er) have a limited track record, the record of Archos is pretty clear ... roll out products that target the 'latest trend' with software that is usually not ready and move on to the next latest thing within a very short time leaving a trail of unsupported devices. If you can live with buying a new thing from Archos every 9-12 mos and knowing support will be GONE after that then go for it.
As said the Nook may not turn out better, but it can't be worse. It has an up-to-date system now, larger memory, better viewing for it's primary mission. (A70 just getting 2.2 and who know what bugs with it; A101 still not available, what does THAT tell you?)
If you want an android multimedia device then the Archos family may be a way to go, but evaluate it against multimedia devices since that is Archos' focus (assuming they have one), not reading and/or tablet functions.
Probably most people on this thread have reading as a primary, tablet second and entertainment third. The screen is really great, pdf reading is real good other than the swipe down instead of swipe sideways, with the Dolphin browser, root, su, multitouch what's not to like? ... did I mention the screen is great?
Thank you for the very helpful info zdrifter.

Don't know of any android apps that allow document editing, however if I wanted to annotate a pdf doc, I would put it in my Calibre library, convert it to ePub, load it on the NookColor and annotate away ... .. Calibre is a free program and VERY useful for ereading.
As for foreign sales, don't know a thing ...
Did you read the post from gtablet? There is a wifi suplicant file. I don't have a nook yet but will root and post.

Has anyone tried downloading this and running it on their Gtabs? just checked today and they had a new update that allows for tegra 2 support. I've had my eye on this game for quite some time but was reluctant due to the lack of tegra 2 support and the small disclaimer/known issue in the description that said "could not work & crash on 'uncertified' Google Android devices like Archos Tablet, Nook, etc".
So before i go psycho on my wallet and spend +/- 15 usd on this thing, I need someone who owns a Gtab, and was brave enough to buy this game, to confirm compatibility and if so, list down known issues based on experience. Thanks again xda peeps!

i must be getting rusty w/ my searching skills but so far the only threads i've seen about the game are for non tegra 2 devices (NC, Dell Streak, phones, etc) so really somewhat of an "apples and oranges" type of comparison. anyway just checking if anyone who owns the Gtab specifically have tried this game out lately... but no rush (considering that the update was just rolled out less than 24 hrs ago). eagerly awaiting for some first-hand insights!
Just noticed it this morning too. Good chance that I will try it this evening. I honestly don't see why it would crash on the nook though. If all else fails, I still have my Captivate to play it on. It did look nice on the g-tab when I watched it on youtube. I can say this, if your a fan of classic rpgs the sound track alone will blow you away, at least all of what I heard.
I took the $15.00 plunge this morning. The game has a 1 GB download for game data, so you're going to go well beyond the 15 minute refund limit. On the other hand, you gotta love any program that simulates Pong while the download is being counted down.
Once the download is complete, I'll let you know. Looks like it's gonna' take a couple of hours as I'm running this off a EVO hotspot.

Winner!
Download is done....and Pong now totally sucks. Anyway, bottom line is.....it works. While I haven't had a chance to go too far into the the game, I can tell you that the soundtrack and graphics are both top notch! Is it worth $15.00? Yes.....yes it is if you're into this kind of game.

Thanks for taking the plunge. I had been reading the market reviews to see if a gtablet owner was satisfied. Its way easier to toss 15 bones into the aether knowing your getting something from it.
Hey all,
My brother just got Shadow Era, a Magic the Gathering type game, for his ipod touch so I checked out the company website. Turns out they have a version for Android that was just released! Best of all it is FREE! Downloaded and installed from the market, but when I run it, it gets stuck on the splash screen. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if anyone can offer a suggestion. Thank in advance. I seriously want to play his game.. haha.
EDIT
In case others wanted to see the trailer. Gotta get more Android users on here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKthKAfNEP4
Same happened to me... I hit home and then opened the game again and it worked from there. Pretty cool game so far
THANK YOU! That did the trick!!
Definitely a cool game! Thanks!
It's not even showing up in the google market for me. It shows up in Amazon, but after downloading, it say "Application did not install" Tried from the APK to, and same result. I found it in the online market, but I "Don't have a compatible device" and it won't let me download.
interesting...
Augh! Why did you go and post this! I had no idea this even existed, I used to eat through the time I should be studying playing the MTG PC game... Sigh. Oh well, it was good to have productive time for a time.
Thanks for the app suggestion (begrudgingly)
@bschrib
Haha, I know the feeling. So many hours spent on MTG...
The good thing though is that the game only has a 200 card pool currently and of those 200 you can only use a few depending on your Hero. I can't stand losing though so I usually end up playing another game after I lose. And then another game after I win.. so basically I end up logging an unhealthy amount of hours on this thing.... :/
compared with other CCGs, Shadow Era is definitely a prime choice!
help
I download shadow era game, when it download the data it stay at 14%, any solution?
if any1 have q solution plz mail me

Looking forward to it I was a little angry when I got my console and Google play was not in it. Ouya made this big thing about being completely open and what do they give us a great android gaming platform that you are not allowed to use unless you hack it or buy games from them. that should be an optional market not the only choice. I bought the Ouya so I can play my android games that I have already purchase from the play store. Ouya great product horrible execution. on the lunch you looked a little like f-ING Apple Please correct this. sorry for leaving this on your post if you want you can forward to Ouya too angry to think straight.

While I get your point , it was kinda obvious the play store would not be on the ouya, never mentioned by the ouya team and makes sense there store would be there only way to make $

That would be really great, I also miss it.Would it be possible to install a Video Player who also plays mkv, avi? Is it possible, that the ouya can also play NTFS hard drives? Would like to connect my hard drive and then also watch 1080p movies.
Thanks a lot.

that sound great and I understand it's their way of making money but I payed for the console because I thought it would be the one console that allows the owners meaning me not Ouya to decide what I have on it. When I think android I think freedom of choice, no limitations placed on the end user by the manufacturer. They can still make a lot of money without getting greedy if they have great products and a great user friendly interface of course i will buy from their market. but I want to do it by choice and not because I do not have one. They need to be reminded that this is not apple once you sell the product it is no longer yours it becomes the property of the consumer. and the consumer shows his or her appreciation by continuing to do business with them. Microsoft just proved what greed can do to a franchise, Ouya should not force People away. I feel I they gave the End User what He/She wants and add what they want to it they will be surprised by the result. have your market as an option not the only option and you will win a loyal fan base.
While I understand the desire for the play store I believe it should not come pre-installed. The Ouya is not a phone or tablet and thus the play store content can hardly be considered compatible. As long as Ouya reframes from deliberately blocking third partys from adding it, we can't reasonably be mad at them.

@superjay The problem is that they are deliberately keeping us from accessing it. If this was based purely on AOSP without gapps installed then there would be no problem, but there have been many of us working different angles trying to get the Play Store working on the Ouya for over a month now. The only "Custom ROMs" that are flashable are based on the Ouya framework, no one has been able to get an AOSP based rom to work, and it looks like professorpoptart has bricked his while trying. Since Ouya doesn't have any hardware button combination to access recovery, and have locked access to NVRAM, the console is still very brickable.
They claim to be open, but when you really get down to it, they're "open" for app developers, but not hackers. Which means we just have to find ways around their protections and that takes time. I'm hoping now that there's a retail launch some more experienced android hackers will take an interest and some progress will be made again. It's been mostly stagnant since we ported CWM recovery over. I'm really glad to see MasterZen88 got these optimizations done, and I'm looking forward to trying out this ROM when he posts it, but I'm far more excited about the prospect of installing CM10 and really opening this box up.
@MasterZen88 I hope I haven't offended with anything I said above, I'm not familiar with your work, but it's always great to have more developers on board. Feel free to email or PM me if I can help you with testing, or if you want to know some of what I have tried in my own pursuit of getting the play store and/or CM10 working on the Ouya.

Not offended at all. Glad to be apart of this OUYA movement.
XDA is all about working together has team, to get the job done as one Unity. I would be honored to work with any dev on this ouya forum. I'm not the most skilled but I have had my fair share of bricked devices. Check out my "About Me" on the OP if you would like to know who I am.
I originally started out on this forum has Mammon88 but decided to change my screen name... Just a TIP dont use Mammon has your screen names, its not really nice...lol

It will be ready tonight, just wanted to create this thread to get the ball moving.
I was unaware that it was deliberately blocked, my apologies.

Can sideload XBMC by going to their website and using the Android version off there. I've been happily using that to watch videos... someday I'll finish the original Doctor Who series. Partially through season 12 so far. -_- Only 14 more full seasons after this one to go. Whee.

Ok, totally off topic, but you brought it up. The reason I haven't watched Dr. Who is because of the missing episodes in the early seasons. How much did that impact your enjoyment of the series?
cannot wait, i actually really like this Ouya. there is so much potential!

The episode-set we watched had reconstructed versions of everything. Most had at least the original audio, but... those weren't my fav episodes. They didn't make me want to not continue watching the entire series or want to skip them. Sometimes frustrating though...
If it works for your style, I highly suggest watching those episodes while multitasking playing a game or doing some light coding. Something to distract you from the fact that you're only hearing the audio with subtitles to let you know what was supposed to be happening on the screen.
One other thing this ROM will "need" is the ability to prevent automatic updates. The default Ouya launcher (at least I THINK its the Launcher) actually automatically downloads & installs OTA-style updates with zero user prompts, which is presently a great way to just spontaneously have your ROM blown away.
Also, any word on CWM getting to where we can actually boot into that consistently? I'm a bit LESS gunshy about bricking my Ouya now that they're available to the general public (I got mine via KickStarter like a month ago), but I'd still really prefer to have a graceful way to re-stock / bring my system back from the dead if needbe

I'm wondering if you delete the ota url address in the build.prop if that will do it.
Also has anyone added ro.usb_host = 1 supposed to help with usb storage but not confirmed.
I'm slightly fixated on the build.prop today looking at all the diffferences. Between the ouya and a phone.
