Hi all !
Since a few days i have an Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (i9295), in the past i always rooted my Samsung Phones and flashed them with a custom ROM.
I boot up phone in recovery/download mode, restarting the phone while holding volume down.
The android figure pops up and everything looks fine, so i connect it to the computer and start Odin 3.07 (also tried other versions)
Odin can communicate with the device and shows [COM4], i press AP/PDA depening on Odin version and select the custom recovery file. I get back the following in the console.
Code:
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/004> recovery.img
<ID:0/004> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/004> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/004> RES OK !!
<ID:0/004> Removed!
Odin tells me, RESTART on the top and indeed the device is restarting. It boots normally without a problem or error. Odin still shows RESTART on the computer screen.
Now im like, did it worked ? Lets boot to recovery !
No, it didnt work... No custom recovery.. BUT ! Odin now shows Passed and give me the following output in the console.
Code:
<ID:0/004> Remain Port .... 0
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
I tried TWERP recovery, CWM Recovery and CWM with swipe.
Also tried to use a other computer, this didnt make any diffrence.
I hope for some tips
Oh, im stock now !

I had this exact same issue when I tried to install custom recovery and it took me longer than it should have to solve. I rooted the phone first and then I was able to flash custom recovery. I have no idea why it worked, but it did. Try that and let me know.
Thanks for your quick reply
I always install SuperUser with CWM, so how can i do this without CWM ?

FIXED !
No root needed
When u flash with odin and it does a reboot, DIRECTLY input volume UP.
First reboot needs to enter CWM to let it work, if you skip this, it will be removed and default again.
Phone is flashed now without any problems
@BrianVogel
It is best to completely power off, wait, enter download mode.
If needed - modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin can be then be Odin flashed without repeating the flash twice. Many shady guides tell you to flash modems twice to "make it stick". The reason it won't stick is download mode entered from restart meny.
Never run Odin on same PC where Kies is installed. Odin and Kies will fight to gain control of USB connected device.
Some borked Win7 need to run a Fix from M$ KB to properly detect Samsung phone as hardware even after installation of USB driver. Google to find the Fix, download and run.
Always connect directly to PC USB - never USB hub.
I had same problem and solve with these steps:
- In ODIN uncheck "Auto-reboot"
- flash using AP/PDA as you did, but your phone remains on
- disconnect cable
- now press Home + Volume Up + Power and hold while phone turn off and turn on again into recovery
- you should see new recowery and follow on screen steps

I'm pretty sure my phone isn't bricked.
Ok, this is what I've done...
I'm on official Froyo for UK, unbranded handset (i think jpo/jpp firmware).
I tried to install Voodoo Lagfix (stable, released today) by Odin.
I started Odin up, put PDA as the Voodoo file, put my phone into download mode, connected the usb, waited for odin to detect it and then clicked start.

That's what Odin said, so I presumed it failed.
The screen was black and not doing anything so I unplugged it and removed the battery. When I put in battery and tried to start up phone, I get a logo of a flip phone on the left, with a line dash to a yellow triangle with black explanation mark, and then another dashed line to a computer.
Can I have a set of instructions on how to continue please!
which ROM did you install?
make sure the TAR is not corrupted
even if it failed, you can flash it again
the only way to find out if it works is to unplug and reboot it
there is always the JIG option if you don't have the 3 button modes

It's not a ROM, I tried to put on Voodoo Lagfix 5 (stable) onto my stock firmware from Kies (JPP/JPO).
Shall I try to reflash the Lagfix? I think I need to flash a firmware, can someone please tell me, starting to get a little stressed haha.
BTW, Download Mode is working.
I would imagine you are going to have to flash stock firmware to it, you can try flashing it again or perhaps a different kernel
got it working now guys
just reflashed it and it worked
I have installed and tested this on my own Verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE. Installed successfully with Odin3 1.85. Can also verify the standing root method for LTE devices with kernel.zip and recovery.zip works.
Onto the ROM

•Wait till you see the Samsung Galaxy logo and release power button
•You should be seeing a screen matching the one below (2 options recovery and ODIN)
•Click the volume up button (farthest from power in landscape) this will set you tablet in ODIN mode...
•Once your TAB is in ODIN (Downloading) Mode, connect it to your PC, you should see the COM port with a number in Yellow.
•Put the tar you downloaded (see link below) in the PDA slot. MAKE SURE THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE CHECKED IS AUTO REBOOT and F.RESET TIME

I can verify that krylon360's files/method works. After breaking my recovery I found his posts and used his method to return to stock. I would actually suggest to ALL LTE owners to download those files and store somewhere safe if you intend to continue trying new ROMs/Kernels. After restoring the factory ROM I went on to Liquid Speed with an OC of 1.4.
Wouldn't have been possible without krylon360.
Just used this to set my Gtab back to stock. Worked like a charm.
Warning, don't be a dummy like me and forget to backup your titanium backup file, and factory cwr nand to your computer.
Gaurantee I won't forget to do that again. lol
This method worked for me as well. Got some kinds of rings on my screen after only having the tab for 2 weeks so had to revert to stock before shipping it back to sammysong.
Thanks! Files saved on laptop if ever needed again.

Is this the i905.02 v.eh04?
Kernel Version 2.6.36.3

or is this a precursor to the EHO4 build?

This is the prior version to EH04 (EG01). You'll be prompted after installation, that there is an update available which will bring you to EH04.

You might want to check out this thread regarding ODIN for mac. If you try it remember to have KIES for MAC installed first. That should give you the proper drivers... at least it does on Windows:

Good Luck.
I had bricked my Verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE. I used the above method and revived it back to life.
Many thanks to ifiweresolucky for this fine fix. It saved me $700 for a new tablet!!
Thank you for this.. love you guys.
Would a kind person please, please dump a PIT file for the SCH-i905? If you can figure out which partition contains the PIT file, you should be able to dump it with something like this:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 of=/sdcard/sch_i905.pit bs=4096
You might be able to view partitions by type with something like the following command:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/
My APP partition is 256MB and the EG01 system.bin is 312MB so I can not flash back to stock with Odin, fastboot or nvflash. No adb, no recovery, Heimdall does not work.
stuck
well i have used the file to go back to stock lots of times, but this time i cant get on vzw network also get cannot open sales code on boot up any idea whats up thanks in advance
This method saved me, THANK YOU OP!
Has anyone seen a stock ICS image for the VZW 10.1. This HC image is great for going back to original but it might be nice to ODIN a clean ICS.
Granted it only takes about 20 for HC to update to ICS but once or twice it took a few days to begin the update process.

I had to put it down for a few days. I am at an impasse. Everything looks good, but it never reboots. I let it stay overnight, but woke up with a blank scree. When I manually reboot, it is stuck on the Samsung logo, which is the same symptom that initially brought me here.
Thank you. Your files and instructions worked perfectly.
To add to your instructions... not that there is anyone left... after restoring to factory default, to activate without an active SIM card:
1. Press top left corner of screen
2. Press top right corner of screen
3. Press bottom left corner of screen
4. Press bottom right corner of screen
5. Press volume button closest to the power button in landscape
I have been trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for a week now with no success.
First off, it has a lot of problems connecting when I am in download mode. It has no problem at all when the phone is fully booted up, but Odin has a really hard time seeing it while the phone is in download mode. I have to restart the phone several times into download mode and pull the cable, etc until I can finally get Odin to see it.
Once I get Odin to finally see the phone in download mode I loaded the PIT and the PDA files from the tutorial for DarkyROM_10.2_Resurrection.
But when I hit start is just stops here:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
And will not go any further.
I originally rooted with one click, but I am afraid I might have messed that up. After I did the one click I was messing around with the phone and formatted the internal memory from the download screen. I even went back into one click to try to unroot, but it gives me an error message.
Did I mess up my phone? Is there any way to fix this?
have you ever succeeded in flashing with odin or first time?
have you closed all kies programs from task manager? (do you even have it installed?)
if you have win7, have you opened odin with right click menu->as administrator?
what ver. of odin do you use?
maybe the cable is faulty?
did you connect it directly to the comp or by some hub? (better connect directly)
guy7685,
No, I have never flashed before. This is the first time.
I tried running Odin as system admin, made no difference.
I do not have Kies installed.
I'm pretty sure the cable is good, it works fine for everything else including data transfer on my other phone, just not in download mode for this phone.
I've tried a few different versions. v1.30, v1.83, v1.85
When I tried in in v1.83 & v1.85 I get a fail, then this message:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Any thoughts?
If you have another computer you can try it on, do that otherwise I think you need to install the drivers again. You can search for them or you can install them via kies. Once you have kies installed go to tools and install drivers.
Remember that before you open Odin you go through task manager to close all kies processes.
Good luck

Everything is ok and all thred completed (succesd 1 / failed 0)
After this, my galaxy tries to reboot but it only shows the flashing battery and will not reboot itself.

My rooted T-mobile Note did not like the OTA update it received today (hung at the samsung logo). I reflashed the rooted UVLG3 firmware image, following the instructions at http://androidlegend.com/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-note-sgh-t879/. This worked, and I'm ignoring the OTA update for now.
I don't need root anymore, i didn't really use it anyways, I would like to get back to stock.
How do i get back to the stock/factory image? From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837907, I see items B (T879-STOCK RECOVERY IMAGE) and D (T879-STOCK BOOT IMAGE). In ODIN, do I need to load one or both of these in one the sections (Bootloader, PDA, Phone, CSC, or UMS) and would i then hit the "Start" button?
Thanks for any help.
Just go to Samfirmware.com and download the tar file for the T879. Put it in the PDA section and start.

Powered off the phone, removed battery, connected USB cable to computer and phone, inserted battery, press power/vol-up/vol-down then hit vol-up to get into download mode

I did the same but the phone still hangs at the Samsung logo after I get the TMo Galaxy Note logo.
I had CyanogenMod on it with TWRP and tried to do a restore (bad idea) that's when it bricked.
I got a USB jig to get me to download mode so Odin would see it. All was installed just great but still the logo..
Just remember to flash the flash counter zip if u need to send it over to repairs with Samsung cus if they know ur phone is rooted they won't fix it cus rooting a device voids ur warranty... I flashcounter.zip everything I flash a rom... I usually flash that file last...

I had to flash TWRP temporarily and wipe the phones emmc and flash the stock ROM again above instruction and worked. I guess before doing anything you should wipe/factory reset your phone first before flashing the stock ROM, this I can't test but just based on logical explanation.
My solution for being stuck on the Samsung logo
I know the last post was done a year earlier, but I thought I'd share this information I learned yesterday. After numerous flashing attempts My Note was stuck on the samsung logo.
I had soft bricked my Note by not clearing out the data on my phone. The previous post here gave me a clue and not being really good at this, I wasn't able to install and get TWRP to play nice with my non-working stock rom image. But I was still able to get the the Samsung Recovery and Download modes.
The working solution (borrowed from a post by andersbot on another thread) was:
1. Go to Recovery mode. Do a "clear cache" and next a "wipe data". Then reboot.
2. Go to Download mode and then connect to a XP PC and start up Odin. Be sure to use the latest Samsung USB drivers.
3. Flash with Odin using ther stock firmware downloaded from sammobile.com. Only tick the boxes for f.reset time and autoreboot (Odin default). Click PDA and load the downloaded file renamed with .tar at the end instead of .tar.md 5.
I dont know if this was the easiest way to clear the data on my SGH-T879, but it worked, and my Note started up correctly with the stock rom.
Hi, Ive followed every idea I could find, nothing is working.
new win7, samsung drivers, adb, .net, and java installed.
I use old ODIN to flash kk4 stock pit, kernel and firmware to it, flashes fine but hangs at end of kernel boot.
Only 1 kk4 heimdall one click detects and flashes, but hangs as well.
new odin doesnt work, but early 3.0 does.
no other 1 clicks detect it, even tho win7 shows composite/model drivers loaded.
I think its at 2.3.5 now, Id like the first rom for this phone, but havent found 2.1 anywhere.
Kies, full or mini says unsupported. but only after it goofs up the drivers.
Ive got a 10 GB folder of files for this phone, but everything Ive tried dun work.
Any ideas or questions?
updates and questions
Can I flash a new recovery menu to it? ie like holding volume up instead of down or both and get the text menu to let me flash a rom from an sd card?
Ive got tons of clockwork CW modded kernels, and have tried some and booting after with key holds of various types.
Corn Kernal flashes and seems to load fine, when I do volume up + power it brings up modem usb upload menu text, anyone know of any stable kernels for i897 that have text recovery menus that will allow reflash?
toronto rom flashes fine, gets rid of at&t boot screen, but comes up i896, which I understand is almost exact?
Ive sat and waited hours for it to reboot after flashing, I tried turning off auto reboot, using various pit files, rom files, one clicks, tars, mdns, etc. etc. in various combinations.
its possible there are errors in some of the files Im getting, but mdn checks out ok..

1. From off, held vol -/+ and plugged in and got downloading...
2. Started Odin 3.0 early, got blue com 3
3. I got to booting into recovery, held 3 button for 4-5 seconds, keeps booting past recovery.
4. Holding any combo of buttons doesnt work, except download mode.
5. Boots past at-t screen to i897 and hangs, if I touch the home button row, they all light up and stay lit.
6. Repeated Odin method twice just to make sure. Same hanging, Going to try the heimdall method now.
heimdall not there?
Speedload isnt listed on that teams site.
found this one click there along with others, ran and detects and flashes fine, but no recovery menu still.
Captivate-GingerbreadBootloaders-TalonDEVkernel-One-Click - Gets to talon load screen and hangs, only download works.
tried speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz, same hang after kernel.
talon and speedmod loads kernel and hangs, no recovery menu shows after key hold.
Thought it might be vol +, held just vol - and got plugged in, got battery charging screen but not moving.
Download still comes up fine, no other key holds work.

Use another USB port for Odin. Heimdall installs its own drivers to the USB port you use it on.

Recovery is Power + home + vol up.
talon
Tried talon one click - still boots past recovery with vol + and hold and power. Home button is glass touch and not bubble dome. I tried every combo of vol + and glass touch below and power.
going to go back through and try a number of files now and your recovery button combo and see if anything lights up...brb

Am I doing this right? I load toronto in PDA, com ports and drivers all fine.
Click start, wait, it reboots, then stops at Galaxy screen after passing at-t white screen.
Ive left it plugged in and waited, and I've pulled the usb after pass from ODIN, Ive pulled the usb when at-t white screen showed..
Couple of problems Im having...
1. I cant get into recovery with any button combo.
2. I cant adb into recovery as ADB says no device, despite drivers/com port are fine.
3. Some ODIN detect phone, some heimdall, as stated adb doesnt?
4. I cant enable usb debugging as I cant get past galaxy screen.
5. How can I tell what android is actually installed?
6. Are there different key combos in 2.1,2.2,2.5 to get into recovery?
7. ADB driver installer doesnt see phone.
Im guessing I can't send it into adb recovery with usb debugging?
Ive flashed corn kernel, speedmod, I897UCKF1-AutoRoot-DesignGears all trying vol +/home/power button, along with many other combos, always boots past recovery.
Android Control wont detect it, cant use for recovery there either..
Im feeling this is driver issue, what drivers would you guys recommend to get ODIN one clicks, adb, and/or android control to see it.

You're having some odd issues. I'm starting to think that your internal might be the issue. Perhaps try to partition an sd card and flash the ROM on it (there's a guide on here).
1. Button combos are in your Bootloaders, won't change.
2. ADB requires usb debugging.
3. That's drivers oriented, also Odin won't work on the same usb port that you installed Heimdall on.
4. That answers your ADB problem.
5. Only by flashing the ROM/firmware or getting in recovery.
6. Yes, key combos did change from Froyo and GB. That being said, there are no 2.5, GB stops at 2.3 (KK4) for stock builds.
7. Same thing at #2.
