Hi guys. This is my first nexus and I am loving it. I'm also loving lollipop and it's features.
However, one feature I've hated since I got the n6 is the fact that, even though I've rooted and unlocked the bl, that I can't get Tasker or Automateit to turn the phone GPS from "battery saving" to "high accuracy" when I launch Google maps.
I have gone into "Security - Apps with usage access" and authorized Automateit but Tasker never shows up in there. I have also downloaded "Secure Settings" from the play store but I admit I have never used it before so I'm not sure if I need to do something specific with it.
All I know is that when I was using any other OS up as far as kitkat, all I needed to do was have root and grant root access to Automateit and it would take care of switching on and off the GPS when I launched or stopped Google maps.
Can anyone please help me figure this one out?

Secure settings works. Once you enable the secure settings helper in the app you just use the plugin interface from tasker to toggle GPS.
Assuming you allowed root access to AutomateIt, you can configure a rule that uses the Set GPS State Action.
You might need to reboot your phone after that in order for the action to work properly.
Ok.... So here's something weird. Although I'd imported my rules into Automateit, they didn't work. I also could just not get Tasker to work no matter what.
But I uninstalled Tasker and secure settings, and uninstalled automateit. Then I restarted the phone, reinstalled automateit and manually created the GPS rules again from scratch instead of importing them and now it works perfectly!
I've never really liked Tasker, probably because I couldn't figure it out which is nobody's fault but my own, and I gravitated towards automateit but I thankfully got this issue sorted.
Thanks for the help guys

Hi all,
I've been plagued with this issue over the last month or so. I have location based services set to off and get a frequent popup box stating the following:
"Location Based Service Disabled. You need to enable location based services if you want to use the location-based features of this application. Once enabled, Kindle Fire will use Wi-Fi to help determine your location."
This comes up when I have Dolphin Browser open and go to Google, and sporadically at other websites. Anyone know a way to STOP this from coming up?? If I wanted this service enabled (which I don't, and won't), I would enable the thing. Why the constant nag to turn it on? It seems it must be related to a particular app I have installed, but I haven't been able to pinpoint which one.

Sounds like Google wants to know where you are. Something with the website not with the Kindle itself if that makes sense. See if you can look through the Google settings through dolphin and find something related to location based services. Also, do you have Facebook or Facebook messenger installed? Those 2 may be requesting it as well...

Couldn't solve this through Dolphin, which is a shame because it's an awesome browser otherwise. So, uninstalled and went with Opera Mini..haven't had the popup message since.

There's a setting in dolphin itself to turn off location based services. Once you set it to off, it shouldn't ask you again.

It WAS set to off. That is WHY the popup was appearing. The popup was requesting that I turn it on.

I thought you meant the setting in the Kindle was set to off, not this one in dolphin. If you don't set it to off in dolphin also, dolphin thinks it on, tries to get your location from the Kindle when it hits certain websites, but sees that it's off, and tells you to turn in on in the Kindle. Which is exactly what your describing. Sorry if I misunderstood.

This is making me feel completely ignorant, lol. I have it set to off in the Kindle settings as well as within Dolphin Browser. I'm still getting the popup. Could it have something to do with the "Private" mode setting? I have that set to off too, but I tried it with on and it still did it. Basically, I've tried every combination I could think of. I notice in the Kindle setting there is also an on/off switch relating to Location Services and Google. This popup I'm getting usually happens when I go to Google.com, but not always. Sometimes it randomly comes up when I visit other sites. I'm wondering if I have something else installed that could be conflicting and prompting this popup. Here's screenshots of how I currently have it set and still getting the popup:

That might be it. I was getting that message on my wife's kindle before I turned that option off in dolphin, and haven't seen it since. But she doesn't have that Google services option in the kindle settings, just the basic kindle location settings one. She's running a pretty stock unrooted setup. Sorry I couldn't be more help. But if I had to guess, I would think that Google location setting is the culprit.

Thank you for helping me out. I'll play around with it a bit more and report back any new results.
Edit: It appears that in Dolphin Browser if you view sites via the desktop version and not the mobile version ('classic' in Google) this popup does not appear, which is just fine with me as I dislike mobile versions of webpages anway. So, all is good: location based services are disabled and no more popups!
Nice, glad you got it working!
I have dolphin set as iPad. Afterall, this is a tablet.

Old thread yes, but I just experienced this problem so just in case anyone else has it... Unfortunately I own a Fire 7, 5th generation running 5.3.2.1. Since it can't be rooted, I am trying to limit Amazon's access to the tablet as much as possible. While I was doing so, I was setting up WiFi and went to location based services and pretty much turned off all location services to all Amazon apps and services, including Silk. Opps. What I didn't realize was I had installed other apps which I had yet to fully set up. When I turned off the location for Silk, it blocked Google and other services from receiving my location. I managed to fix the issue, while still having all Amazon location services turned off, by installing google Maps and allowing Google to access my location through there. It worked and i still have all of Amazon blocked.
Hello all you nexus 6 experts!
I am experiencing a weird bug for selecting the mock location app under developer settings. Currently I have three different apps installed - FakeGPS, Lockito and Go Walking Fake GPS Location.
Now, after I set one of the apps as the mock location provider, I can no longer select any other one. I can only choose "None" from the list or the initial selection. e.g. currently I can only set FakeGPS or "none" for the setting. After I uninstall the "stuck" app I can again choose a different one - but then the setting gets stuck on this one.
I am on a Nexus 6 with the July build of Marshmallow (6.0.1 MOB30O). It's running the stock ROM with franco.Kernel and root.
Anybody experienced something like this and has a solution?
Is there a way to edit this setting somewhere directly in a config file?
Same issue. Wondering if its a FakeGPS thing. PokeMon right!
I'm having exactly the same problem on Xperia Z2 (6.0.1). Any solution so far?

Okay Poke's... Figured out the issue. No doubt we all downloaded FakeGPS and moved it to /system right?
After moving FakeGPS back to /data (normal app) I can select other mock location apps (Pokemon GO Joystick).
You can do this with "/system/app mover" available in the Google Play store. Just enable "Show system apps" and scroll down to the app you want to move back to /data (FakeGPS). Then reboot and you should be good
Actually, I haven't moved my app to the system partition since Google's partitioning for stock images leaves little space to do anything with \system. Anyways - a Redditor pointed out one thing to me: even if the setting is not updating on the UI-side, it is actually updating properly on the backend. Basically, just select any other mock location app and it will work fine even though something else is being displayed. I was sceptical at first since some of my apps were crashing before and I interpreted that as a sign of a jumbled setting but now everything works fine.

That's true, i just realized it. To confirm this, when i open fakegps if i didn't select it as mock location app it tells me to do so and when i select it that message disappears even though the "select mock location app" section shows another app as selected. It seems to be just a UI problem.
edit.
guys my nexus 6 shows 2 location on the map. My current location and the mock location. How do i remove my current location and only allow the mock location to be active?
You might need to disable the Fused Location service.
And change the location settings to phone only. Also turn off Wi-Fi scanning if connected or around known hotspots/networks.
Or...enjoy the summer and actually walk around town like you're supposed to?
I'm actually having the same issue with the "stuck mock location app". I tried to remove those apps and I still cannot select the app I want to, in this case, Fly Gps.
I'm trying to get tasker to switch an app on and off depending on if I am home. I can get the app to launched but not to kill it. Have added an exit task but it doesn't seem to work. Tried to get it to make a notification when I get home and leave using the same setup and that works any ideas how to get around this.
Very new to the app so bear with me.
Killing apps is iffy at best. I believe since lollipop, it has to do with SELinux. Google play pulled Taskkill from the play store a long time ago. It's still available though. See this Reddit post.

That's bit of a bummer. Killing apps at various locations was my main reason for buying the app.
+ Profile -> State -> Phone -> Cell near (at home) SCAN
... + task -> app -> launch app => exit task -> app -> kill app
Similar to this I mananged to enable/ disable (cgi, http get) my ip camera at home.
perhaps it helps.

Mmmh, I checked with three apps on my device, they also refuses to close.
Go to settings -> about phone and look for SELinux status. I'm sure it says enforcing.
Can't find SElinux in that menu.
You must be stock, so it's enforcing.
I am
I've the same problem, but i've magisk and SElinux permissive. Can not kill an app anymore with Tasker on Nougat (tried with root option checked and unchecked). Tasker is enabled in Magisk superuser.
AutoInput back out of the currently running app.
I ended up with an autoshorcut to a kill task in automate. Works perfectly. It's a shame that this function is not working in Tasker but in others like automate or macrodroid.
It appears the Chamberlain and LiftMaster MyQ apps are now detecting root and complain that some features are not compatible with my device. Tried adding the app to the Magisk Hide list but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chamberlain.android.liftmaster.myq
Any ideas what could be done?
Some apps detect not only root itself but common root apps such as Titanium Backup. If you don't already have Magisk set up with a randomized package name that could help. If you do already or it still doesn't work after I would try removing your root apps or seeing if they have their own hide functionality like randomizing the package name.

Hiding Magisk Manager works for me.
I tried clearing the app data thinking that maybe they check once and keep track of it, but it didn't help. I'm not a fan of hiding Magisk Manager, so I'll just live with it the way it is, I use a password manager to fill in the password so it's not horrible.
Why don't you like hiding magisk manager?
My phone wasn't even rooted and myQ was giving me the error message that it won't save the credentials. I had LuckyPatcher program installed but after its deletion myQ allowed me to save the username password combination. Btw what an annoying company Chamberlain is, they want $9/month to integrate myQ with ITTT or Google Home. Any workarounds?
Yeah I work around to enable Google home integration as well as Alexa integration would be to used Z-Wave enabled garage controller. The bad part is you'll need to wire it into one of the handheld garage door openers to bypass the Chamberlayne encryption and then you'll have to register the garage door controller with a custom device template in your home automation system to where your garage door is seen as a light and then you'll be able to use the command turn on or turn off and then the name of your garage door device name it's a major pain in the butt but it works. Home automation device manufacturers specifically include code that intentionally block or restrict voice commands to open or close the garage doors for liability purposes as well as laws that have been signed into a fact that Force manufacturers to restrict voice enabled commands for garage doors
Old thread but I got a Chamberlain myQ for Christmas. Saw root detection. I selected myQ in Magisk Hide settings and cleared the storage l/data for the myQ app. No issues for me. I just double checked writing this post too.
I just got a google chromecast with android tv and under settings - Accounts & sign in - (account)- I have no app only mode settings, these are the options listed
Settings Lock
Your Services
Autoplay trialers
Payment and purchases
Google Assisatant
Remove
does anyone have any idea how I get the Apps Only mode to show up or if something in my account is disabling it?
right now I am using wolf launcher in the meantime but I really want to swtich to app only mode so I can get rid of recommendations
I too am experiencing this issue. Have no problem with the first one I set up two weeks ago. This time, first of two more I received, "Apps Only Mode" (one of the few,, however significant reasons, I'm jumping Roku) is missing. I can offer no solution; normal troubleshooting (my third degree is in computer science, CCNA, and I've got major experience/expertise) gives no joy. I'll do the third tomorrow and hope for the best.
