best rom - Moto X Q&A

What is the best rom with best battery life for ghost??

Stock, you'll have the fewest problems and most consistent battery life.
Sent from my Moto X

You'll get ten different answers unless you try them all and see how they work for you. No one uses your phone like you lol
I had better battery on cm12 but it's buggy as hell.
root, roms, and themes.. oh my!

Try them all and decide for yourself.
If you value stability and Moto proprietary apps, stock.

[Q] The ROM with the best battery life?

I found a thread with the battery life for different captivate roms, but they are all old versions of the roms . Can we update that thread with the latest gingerbread roms? Or maybe people can write a comment on this thread saying what rom they got the best battery life with? I am not in my house for around 13 hours a day on weekdays, and I use my phone extensively, so i rely heavily on my battery life getting me through my day and that is why I would like to know what rom, gingerbread preferably, has the greatest battery life. Thanks!
Its completely irrelevant as your battery life will differ from anyone elses...
Threads like this are generally discouraged as they nearly always result in petty squabbling.

Best rom for battery life?

Hello, I am currently using MIUI but it sucks for battery life. I want to flash a stable rom with long battery life, and nevr to forget about flashing (because I will sell my phone to a friend of mine very soon and he is noob in all of this things like roms). What would you recommend?

I had amazing battery life with Pinnacle. 24+ hr easily with medium-heavy usage (very subjective, but 100x better than MIUI, CM7)
I flashed serendipity 6.4 on my mother in laws phone in july and I have yet to have to do anything with it except the things she messes up, like losing the app drawer icon. I also ran the rom on my phone and it had great battery life.

Generally speaking native roms offer the best battery life over all (KH3, KI#, KJ#,KK#, etc). But like mentioned before very subjective. This thread will probably be closed due to the nature of it.
If you are giving it to a friend that is not into roms. Stock is your best bet. Don't want them to have to deal with the issues of a custom rom. Like drivers and app compatibility issues in AOSP roms like CM and roms like MIUI.

[Q] Do any TouchWiz ROMs (i.e. FireKat) really speed up the phone?

I have a new T-Mobile Note 4 (that I'm using on AT&T) and the phone is quite fast, but I enjoy tweaking and am planning to root the phone for Xposed and a few other things, so I was also thinking about flashing a new ROM.
I also use GearVR so I need a compatible (TouchWiz?) ROM and was thinking about FireKat.
Does it really make that big of a difference?
I'm more concerned about performance than battery life, but of course battery life is important too.
Yes, it makes a huge difference.
To go into a bit more detail for ya, yes they do help. Most of the custom roms have been de-bloated and tweaked for "power users" for lack of a better term. They have been adjusted to allow better usability and eliminate some of the useless features. Some devs (not all, be sure to do your research and read the boards) but extra effort into making their roms perform better and allow customization. Be warned though, from my experience, with more customizations and tweaks to appearance you will take a hit to performance.
Thanks very much for the help.
It seems like a lot of ROMs are tweaked for battery life and I often wonder if the performance isn't that good as a result.

FireKat is tweaked for both performance and battery life. My phone is 10 times faster than stock with FireKat V9 and the good battery life is a nice side effect. Make sure your follow the instructions in the first and second posts for maximum performance/battery life.
Maybe everyone can submit performance benchmarks here.
how about this, I used Nova Launcher when im not rooted but when I am rooted (like now running firekat) im on TW all the way.
Don't go by benchmarks, go by feel. Like someone said above read through the different Dev posts and in most, people have done what your talking about and posted numbers. To the original poster, FireKat is awesome. Mega does an incredible job and its definitely worth trying his efforts if you don't mind flashing. The speed difference as well as battery performance is nothing short of incredible on this device. I've tried many different ROMs and always come back to this one.
Of course your experience may vary, but that's what's so awesome is the ability to try a different ROM. Like you, I have a TMobile Note 4 on AT&T. Fortunately for us there are many talented devs for this phone which gives us many options. Give them a try and see for yourself, and trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Just do yourself a favor and don't go by benchmark numbers, and go by what you feel is the fastest and smoothest. Numbers are artificial and change so often that it's much better in my opinion to feel for yourself.
Good luck and enjoy the device man, it's awesome.
I am a power user. I have a gear vr. None of the custom ROMs support vr. I have a backup nandroid of stock ROM, whenever I want to use vr, I nandrood back to it. Daily driver is cm12.
This is my benchmark score anyway.

Touch above 50k using the latest cm12 build.
This is the smoothest running ROM I've used.
Most stable is firekat for sure.
Ugh. Gear VR doesn't work on FireKat?
I've been reading the thread and it says that it would work with a custom kernel. Has anybody tried that?
yes, it's my favorite ROM so far.

If you want to speed up the appearance of your phone...make it snappier....go into Developer settings and reduce all animations to 0.5 or turn them off completely. It makes a big difference.
Firekat + AEL kernal = ROM bliss with VR function.

Really ten times? Not even close to twice as fast, maybe half as fast. While Firekat and Dynamic Rom are faster than stock touchwiz......Slim roms or Cyanogenmod are the only thing that REALLY speed up the phone. Touchwiz will always be touchwiz
It's more of a speed upgrade than that. Mega has been tweaking the speed for 9 versions. He's got skills.
Do any of the ROMs speed up gaming at all?
For example, I also have an iPhone 6 Plus and several games are silky smooth on it (Galaxy On Fire 2 HD, Terraria, Shadowgun), but on the Note 4 the performance is much lower. It's not horrible, but it's nowhere near as smooth as iOS. (note: this isn't meant to disrespect Android or the Note 4, but I'm honestly wondering about the difference because I have both phones and compare them side-by-side)
I think what you may really be looking for is a custom kernel. A lot of them are in original android development. I can link you to others.
I'm testing hyperdrive rom today on this phone, however and just downloaded those games. Very zippy.

We'll pretend you didn't just admit you have an iPhone.

Rom / Kernel Combo

Hello everyone.
I am looking for the best fit for me as far as a rom / kernel combo. I have had the phone a week and was on stock for a day. Battery life was decent but i was looking for more longevity out of the device. I then flashed Dirty Unicorns and love the battery life but not all the theming and black. Is there something stock like with very awesome battery life I can try out? I do like the stock look L / M. I like simple and clean looking with no extra apps. What is the best recommendation for me?
Thank you in advance.
"Best" ROM.
There is no such thing as a best ROM.* The question itself is ambiguous.* "Best" is obviously a subjective term.
What I want from a ROM may well differ from what you want from a ROM, ergo - what is best for me could be worst for you.
If you are asking what the most popular ROMs are, or which ROMs people are using, you can see which threads stay around on the first few pages (and have the most posts) in the Android Development or Original Android Development forums. You can also see what other people are running by reading the What are YOU running on your Nexus 6??? thread.
If you are asking which is the most stable, being a Nexus device - they're all pretty stable.
If you are asking which is best on Battery, ROMs only affect battery if they have a feature that is badly coded.* You will likely be able to read about this in the ROM threads.* ROMs do not impact battery life.* The only impact to battery life are your apps, your settings, how you use the phone and mostly, environmental issues such as Phone Signal.
For tips about improving battery life, please read [Battery Life Help] Troubleshoot battery issues here!
"Best" Kernel
There is no such thing as the "Best" kernel.* What we all want from a kernel is different. Again, many people have the misconception that Kernels affect battery life.* Let's get this cleared up.* Although Kernel devs will build in optimisations and efficiencies that will improve battery life, these are very, VERY tiny...and if 1 kernel has these optimisations, they likely all have.
People will often say "Kernel x is better than kernel y for battery life".* This is actually wrong.* Kernels respond to user settings. Setting up the governor to favour either battery life or performance is simple enough to do, you just have to do some learning.* The reason people think Kernel x is better than y is because developers set their kernels up with their preferred governor settings.* This is what we refer to as out-of-the-box settings.* The out-of-the-box settings for kernel x may well produce better battery results than the out-of-the-box settings for kernel y, which favour performance.* The fact is, you as the user have the ability to tune kernel x or y to perform the same, be that battery or performance - so start learning how to do this yourselves - that way, you can choose the kernel based on the FEATURES you want, and not the fictional performance benefits of one kernel over another.
There's no best combo either. Get the features you want and learn to tune the kernel to your desires
Hope this helps

Need a custom ROM that emphasizes long battery life

I still am fond of my Moto X 2013, but the battery life is getting worse and worse.
Which custom ROMs are best for extending battery life? I'm far more interested in long battery life than in any other features, at this point.
I'm already using every trick I know of to reduce battery drain (not even collecting e-mail any more on my phone, for example).
Thanks.
I too had the same problem but solved now . I tried many custom ROM's but can't fix that problem. Then found that the problem is with kernal. Then tried stock 4.4.4 with custom kernal (excellent battery life + doesn't over heating) kernal= zwliew (thanks man). No need to tweak anything. Just flash and forgot the kernal. That kernal itself super tweaked.
As long as you don't flash a lollipop ROM, you'll get decent battery life. You can boost that with a custom kernel, or with Greenify/Powernap/Amplify.
Thank you for your help, gowtham nkg and EmilianoTalamo.
One question: did you downgrade from 5.1 to 4.4.4? I had thought that at some point, you could no long downgrade. I'm sure the info is on this forum, but since we're on the topic, I thought I'd be lazy and just ask you guys.
try this forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-t3263991
Stock 4.4.4 excels in battery, specially if you tweak it some. Other than that and you'll most likely get battery issues, especially on 5.1
