Hi all. After swapping the screen for the second time on my Xperia Z I've noticed the proximity sensor seems to be stuck on. I've done the following:
1. Checked all connections and refitted sensor
2. Checked for obstructions
3. Rolled back to 10.4.x and ran the proximity configuration. It fails with error 98.
4. Replaced the sensor
None of the above has fixed it. Occasionally the sensor will register an 'on' proximity but then.it's just stuck on. I've seen other reports of this issue but no fixes.
Any ideas?
Cheers!

If there's any way to reconfigure the sensor under 4.4.x please let me know. I don't want to have to keep rolling back to 4.3 to test.

4 month late bump? I can't seem to disable it either. If I start the phone with the proximity sensor attached but the back of the case removed it's fine (it tests ok). As.soon as I put it back together it works for half an hour and then is stuck on.

Ok, so I disassembled my xperia z one last time and for no good reason.the proximity sensor works again! Very strange. I must have taken it apart and put it back 10 times at least before that! Case closed.

Back to square 1 after using it for an hour. Detects first proximity sensor action and then stuck on and stays black during calls. Can't hang up and have to restart.

And now found a strange fix... Hit the sensor in and it fixes itself. Oh well.

Hey guys!!
So i'm a proud owner of the white international version of the Xperia Z, but there is a problem that I've noticed with the phone!
When i make calls, and the other end picks up, phone screen turns black, I try and turn the screen on with power button and no luck, the screen is unresponsive and does not turn back on until the other end hangs up!
Glitch in the software? Anyone else by any chance?
BTW phone is rooted
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* and check if the proximity sensor is working.

Thanks!
just dial that number, i went to service test and i presume proximity switch (no proximity sensor) and on the screen it says 'Proximity switch ON' and made a beep sound
So, by any chance has anyone else got this problem? Please help

Wave your hand on it,next to the led light.
It should say off and on with the beep.

Yes I did! I never thought the spigan glas.t would be the cause!
I've been giving my headaches thinking about this!
Guess the solution is to either remove glas.t or the proximity sensor app.
Thank you both for the advice and help

Yeah I did that nothing happened, I think it's what pvilla mentioned above with the screen protector.
Thanks for your help and input, much appreciated

When I pull the phone away from my face to use the keypad or switch to speaker or end the call even, the screen doesn't turn on. I turned off just about all of the motion sensors in settings would that have something to do with/affect the proximity sensor?
Screen protector?

Try factory reset. If I t still does it exchange if possible.

Is anyone else experiencing poor proximity sensor behavior during calls? Proximity works great during sensor tests, but fails to turn screen on/off during calls correctly. Problem is identical across 3 seperate Note3 devices I've tested and oddly I get the exact same issue on Galaxy Mega.

Mine works most of the time. Every once in awhile it flakes out. Same on my note 2 but it was very very rare on note2. I am possibly thinking it might be these cases with fatter lips I've been using since there is so little choice for a great case. My diztronics tpu is awesome but sadly it doesnt fit proper with wireless charging cover and I ruined it trying g to mod it.

I'm not using a case, screen protector, or anything. Exchanged my device and a few days later the proximity sensor is failing 100% of the time during calls. It works flawlessly for everything else...just buggy with stock dialer.
Note 3 -- Tapatalk version [HORRIBLE.1x]
Maybe an app that is causing chaos. I had a speakerphone app bork my proximity sensor sensitivity.

Mine annoys the **** outta me, as soon as I make a call, phone in had, on table wherever it may be the screen turns off.
With this many people having issues with it, it might be an app that's causing it because testing shows the sensor works right?

I had the same proximity sensor issue on my first brand new N3. I think it was faulty from the start. when doing the sensor test, the screen would light up when you place your hand over the sensor, and stay light up when you move it away.
I even reset it to new a few times with the same problem. I got tired of the problem and did a warranty exchange. The new phone works as is. I also went to my local BB where they had a Samsung booth and tested all the N3s they had there. None of them had the proximity sensor issue. I believe it's a hardware problem.
Wow.
Man I'm having this problem also!
I had the same issue and requested an exchange from ATT. So far so good on the new one. Very frustrating issue!
I am having this same issue. Besides that and super high temps I honestly don't think this phone was ready to come out.

There's a separate setting in the phone app to turn off the screen during calls, and it's set on by default (I think). Could that be interfering with the sensor?

No, that's the setting to activate the proximity sensor during calls or not. Turning it off deactivates the sensor. Then you manually can turn your screen on and off during calls.

Hi all,
I noticed that no matter what rom I am using, my gps is having serious trouble to get fix. Even using tools to reset agps data, I'd not bringing any luck.
I own this phone since March, and it worked always very well... Full a month (at least that is the moment I noticed I get hardly a fix).
Is it something with the antenna? What can be done without sending for repair?

All, I have solved the issue, after opening up the xperia z, they were simply 2 screws lying loose in the phone... And I never had it opened. Good thing I asked someone to open the phone for me , if I would sent it for warranty they probably would have tried to put it aside warranty as it seemed someone opened and messed around on the phone..

Ok Here is the deal, I heve my phone in my pocket with my bluetooth headset connected and I get a call. The screen turns on and is fully active in my pocket. This has disconnected my blue tooth, hung up on people and just made my life suck when calling on this phone. I have tested it by calling it with the sensors covered and it lights right up, then I uncover the sensor and nothing happens. So then I disconect the bluetooth and cover the sensor and the screen go out, uncover it and the screen turns back on. I have spent alot of time looking for a setting and have called Samsung but no one knows how to fix this problem. I have had every att varient since the captivate and have never had this problem. So is anyone else haveing this problem???? Thanks for the replies!!!

Wow dude I've been having the same problem! So annoying to be going up a flight of stairs and hear it making the drip sound on the unlock screen. I thought maybe it was because some notification is turning the screen in (while others don't) . Or maybe my thigh was pressing the physical button (I hate the physical button because it can be triggered by anything). Not sure about the bluetooth issue.

Same here. I have a Best Buy rubbery minimal case on mine, and I get screenshots and start S voice in my pocket. I have found a small workaround. I my instance, I always put my phone in my right pocket with Samsung logo down. This will always wake my phone when I squat down. But if I put it in my pocket Samsung logo up, it nearly never happens. Not the most ingenious of solutions, but works for me.
I ended up turning off air wake up in accessibility settings. It seemed to be turning on my phone every time I placed the phone face down on the desk or in my pocket. Had nearly 5 hours of screen on time without knowing it the other day.

That setting is off already. I have checked everything twice!
I hate this problem! I finally bought an S-View knockoff case from China for about $20. I don't do anything worth the S-View app but the cover keeps the phone from turning on and doing accidental presses. Plus, I like the extra protection on the screen.

Ya I went to att to figure out this problem and they told me to get a S view case to stop the problem. I didn't like the idea of spending $50 on a case that I don't like but this phone is hanging up on my customers, so I got one. The good thing was they gave me 50% off and I used the isis money to pay for it. I hope they get that this is a problem and fix it soon, I need to use a different case.

My defender case will be here Wednesday so I will test it and see if the screen comes on in the holster. With the S case it know that the screen is closed and doesn't turn on because it is connected to the back of the phone.

This is the problem though, I don't think the screen should come on in your pocket. The proximity sensor should not let the screen comes on till the phone is taken out of your pocket to keep things like what I described from happening.

Same here - really annoying. I have been forced to use the default lock screen (with pattern) due to the screen coming on when i receive a text. If I use slide unlock only, I inadvertently launch apps, change settings, etc. I interact with my phone way too much to be using a pattern every time I pull my phone out of pocket. Extremely annoying, Samsung!
So I recently got to try to take pictures with my phone underwater.... But one problem I came upon is that once my screen touches the water, it goes berserk and basically exits the camera app. I know I'm suppose to use the physical camera button but I can't even do that if the phone exits the camera app. How are people able to take videos and pictures under water???

I'm not sure what else you may be expecting. The phone can't tell the difference between your finger and water. That's why there's a hardware camera button....
Also, you'll notice that if there is water on the screen and you turn the screen off then back on, it learns to ignore that water and the touch works well. Obviously this doesn't work underwater or with water constantly falling on the phone.
