I know that there isn't a root for the VZW variant yet, but I'd like to help on finding an exploit to gain elevated privs and gain root. I have no idea how to start, though. Can someone give me some tips? I'd like to get into this exploitation stuff.

How can I root my stock DMD64 to have root access internally?
And I mean stock as no mods at all other then root access. Is this possible?
I am aware of flashrec, but doesnt that only allow external(adb) root access?
What steps would I have to take to accomplish this?
Would any OTA updates remove the root access, if it is accomplished?
Thanks in advance for any assistance in this matter. If i need to be more clear I can be, just let me know. Thank you.
What you seek is one-click root app - THREAD.
thank you. exactly what i was looking for.
I purchased a Bionic from Ebay and was never rooted. Was at .886 and did a manual update to .901 because of 4g issues. Phone has never been rooted although was attempted unsuccessfully.
Would like to get root the easiest way if it is available or should i just wait a while.
It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to at least attempt the manual root method found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395911
If .901 has introduced new complications in rooting, they haven't quite been sorted out. It's your best shot at the moment.
Will give it a shot, hope the brick doesnt come thru the window.
Please keep us posted.
negative on the manual root, typing the commands seem to work until the proggie attempted to gain root. I did attempt to finish the commands but no rw permissions leads me to believe root was not gained. I guess just have to remain patient.

Hello, I am somewhat new here, and I haven't had much trouble with phones before, but I have run into a bit of a snag. I cannot gain root access on my HTC Vivid. I was recently stuck in a boot loop, after trying to flash a different ROM, so I had relocked my phone, and decided I would update to The Vivid's ICS. I fixed the boot loop and everything was fine. I unlocked the phone again, and followed the directions on android authoirty's website to gain root access again. Although everything installed correctly an there was no problems, I cannot gain root access to my phone. If there is any ideas or suggestions I could try, it would be greatly appreciated.
I also wanted to add that I have considered the fact that it is due to the update that I have not gained root, but I would hate to do all that work again, but if I have to I will. If somebody could confirm or deny this, as well as point me in the direction of where I can find the un-updated factory files for the Vivid, that would be extremely helpful.
------------Resolved-------------
It was an error on my part and I forgot to flash the recovery.
What did you did you to to resolve this? I cant get root again. Would like to just keep the factory ICS and have root for now.

I actually am using Pirate Ghost's Rum Float Beta 4 right now. It's very good and is almost like stock.
-Meaning I do not think you can have root on stock (to my knowledge). Although I do believe there is a rooted stock release on his website.

there isn't any way to do it yet as far as I know
Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. I've done a ton of searching and am still unable to figure it out.
Is it possible to root this device? (6055U)? I'm not concerned w/ the bootloader, just simply want to root. I have not yet tried any of the one-click's (kingroot, kingoroot, etc)
I would really appreciate it if someone would please explain to me. All of these sites/threads make it seem simple, just unsure of the U device.
I just got it today from Cricket and am considering returning it if I am unable to get root.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
There is currently no root for the cricket variant of the device, I believe it's mainly because the fastboot OEM unlock command is disabled, so we can't get permissive selinux. I've been able to get semi root with dirty cow but it's basically useless, unless someone knows how to use that to turn off selinux, or get a real root shell running, neither of which I have been able to accomplish so far. If anyone has any ideas shoot them my way.
I'm trying to root my GF's phone so that i can unlock it and maybe get rid of the bloatware, its an S6 running marshmallow, i can't seem to find anything solid though, does anyone know a way to get root access without breaking the bootloader?
