[Q] CWM and Backup/Restore - Sprint HTC One (M7)

So I decided to upgrade my HTC One to 4.4.4 from 4.1.2 and I had a lot of issues. So I'm trying to restore the backup I made before upgrading and CWM can't find the file. It gets the error "Couldn't open directory". The backup is placed at clockworkmod/backup/the date the backup was made. Since it seems that 4.4.4. handles the emulated SD Card differently than 4.1.2 does, where do I need to place the backup file so that CWM will recognize that it exists so that I can go back to what works? The phone is rooted/S-Off/Unlocked.
Edit:Ignore the post; I was hasty in my effort of posting this. I was at my wit's end and couldn't find anything on Google. I took a break and came back to it and found a thread that helped solve my problem. For any future people who look at this, this helped a ton.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/cwm-backup-jb-4-2-problem-t2007454
Basically I had to move the file from the sd card partition to the /data/media/ section of the root partition.

Unable to preform Nandroid Restore. Please help!

I'm sorry for posting such a newbie thread but I'm rather stuck at the moment. I rooted my device earlier this week without much hassle. I was pretty excited and tried to get to customizing right away and ended up somewhat screwing up my device. I've tried following just about every solution that google will give me for Nandroid restore but I still can't achieve restoration.
Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I have been trying this method:
Phone in recovery mode
-in command prompt-
cd c:\(directory)
adb devices - it will show "000000000000 recovery"
adb shell - gives me "#"
cd /sdcard - I've tried with and without this step
nandroid-mobile.sh --restore - At this point it asks me about G1 keyboard or just continue, so I hit enter and get
error: unable to mount /sdcard, aborting
I've also tried to mount /sdcard after the adb shell step
and it returns:
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: No such file or directory
but typing ls at the same point lists all the files on that level, including sdcard.
could it be my SD card is corrupt? I'm very confused, I really hope someone can help. Any replies or PMs would be very very appreciated. Thanks in advance!
1. hold the volume button down and press the end call button
2. press home button once the white/green screen comes up to go to recovery
3. scroll down and choose backup/restore
4. choose your backup file and restore
You don't need to do all of that other stuff unless your nandroid backup file is not working and gives you errors..............and usually if it gives you errors, its because the nandroid file was renamed in which case you just need to change it back to its proper name.
I had the same exact thing happen. Somehow the sd card is corrupted (just a guess on my part). Here is what I did:
Copy the entire contents of your sd card to a folder on your PC (this is so you don't lose anything on your sd card).
Reboot into recovery and re-partition your sd card making sure you upgrade the ext partition to ext3.
Do a complete wipe (Caution this will reset your phone, I am not responsible for any data you may lose).
reflash your nandroid backup and if that doesn't work reflash the rom zip file of the rom you were using.
Hopefully you have a nandroid backup or at least titanium backup for the apps you had installed (will make your life easier).
Copy the contents from the folder you created in the first step back to your SD card.
These steps fixed my problem. It MIGHT fix yours.
I hope this helps.

???

im not trying to be mean an not help but...PLEASE POST IN THE RIGHT SECTION and you might get more help!
ive never seen that problem from experience so im really no help. your best bet is post this thread in the Q&A section. I would bet tho by whats its saying like above that your SD CARD is corrupt somehow. just reformat(but make sure to backup the sd card), then try again.

When I do it that way, it tells me to run nandroid backup via ADB..

Thank you, I will get started on it today and let you know how it goes.
Also, sorry for posting in the wrong section. I thought it related to development but I will be sure to post anything like this in Q&A from now on.

**Edit**
Thank you, Peter! I backed everything up and repartitioned the card, upgraded to ext3 like you said. After that I rebooted into recovery and tried nand restore from my device and it started up right away. Didn't have to wipe my device and everything is back to normal! Thanks so much!!

Good to hear u got everything worked out bud.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
okay that solved my hour and a half long struggle. thanks peter.

[Q] How do I delete a corrupted file from /sd-ext?

Hi All
I've posted this on the CM forums, but I thought I would get better help here
Link to the original post in the CM forums -> http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/22941-nandroid-backup-freezes-on-clockworkmod-never-completes/
So I was flashing the final version of Cyanogenmod (7.0.2.1) last week and I thought I'd back up my device before doing it - Since CWM3 always gave me an issue, I'm currently on Amon_RA 2.2.1 (I think that's the version)
Turns out, that Nandroid just freezes when it is backing up a file in sd-ext
It's called #10956 (yes, including the quotes)
Just struck an idea that I could just go to Root Explorer and delete that file (knowing the consequences could be catastrophic)
So I kick started Root Explorer and mounted my device as Read/Write
I went to /sd-ext/lost+found and I saw that the file #10956 was 3076.00 GB - Yes, that is GB - But the file could never be deleted
I'm assuming that the file is corrupt and that's causing my Nandroid backups to freeze and never complete.
Any way how I could get rid of this file? Ofcourse, I'll be going into Amon_RA recovery and performing a backup before deleting that file
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!
[edit: I have a 8GB class 10 Transcend MicroSDHC. Amon_RA never failed a Nandroid backup for me. It's only Clockworkmod - I've tried the older versions of CWM, and the backup never finishes. I'm forced to use Amon_RA instead]
Note:
I've tried sticking the SDCard on my Windows 7 box, but since /sd-ext is a partition instead of a folder, I cannot even see that partition
I had partitioned my card with CWM3.x - This was way back when I was on CM7 RC1 or RC2. However after partitioning, Nandroid never froze, so I'm assuming that stuff went wrong sometime later
I understand that a lot of folks are having issues with CWM3.x and are using older versions or using Amon_RA - My question is how do I get rid of that file "#10956" from the /sd-ext/lost+found directory? Since I think deleting that file might cause some issues in the future, but atleast my Nandroid will finish

Either UFS explorer (not free, but works great) or
DiskInternals Linux Reader (free, but i've never used it http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/)
Either one of these should get you access to the EXT partition via your card reader/windows pc.
You could also just connect your phone to Linux PC, and mount USB - it'll also mount EXT partition to the Linux PC, and you'll be able to use Linux disk tools on it.
Connect your phone to a computer with linux, then you see both partitions when you mount. It's easy to get it running with a LiveUSB setup like this #2 here http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download
The Window$ DiskInternals Ext2/3/4 trial could also be enough to let you delete the file.

Internal SD mount issue

Hello all. I have this issue posted in one of the rom threads, but seeing as there is no information on this issue for this particular device, and google has not been able to help, I thought I would create a topic incase anyone else is having this issue.
I have a vzw tab, and was happily using psirens rc1, when i attempted to update to rc2. upon doing so, i noticed titanium backup was not installing my backups (only about 6 of 120 reinstalled), so I attempted a flash back to stock dj11 using heimdall. The flash back to stock worked no problem, however, now my internal sd card is not being read. Multiple external cards work, as does the internal memory, but I am unable to get the internal card to work.
When attempting to format using normal recovery, I get this:
""e: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
(invalid argument)
e: install_application_for_customer: can't mount HIDDENSDCARD:"
then below in yellow it says "your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions""
Research on google mentions others having this issue with other models, as well as quick fixes that can be flashed in recovery. However, nothing exists for the tab.
I mistakenly assumed a flash to stock would revert any changes I've made while flashing custom roms, but this sd issue has me stumped. I loaded up ubuntu, and using the disk manager, it did notice the internal card, but would not let me format as it "did not exist". I am really hoping i am not screwed here. the tab does work just fine otherwise, but this issue will drive me insane until I understand how to fix it. My knowledge of adb is minimal, but if pointed in the right direction, I am more then willing to try anything to solve this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know verizon system, but for gsm tabs, we use a file called a .pit file, and we repartition all of the memory. Do you have something like that?
i am familiar with .pit files. the stock files i have do not have a .pit file to use though

Clockworkmod from External to Internal SDcard + a question about possible issue.

First of all, I am posting this thread here because I can reply in a thread about CWM, since topics are located in the Dev part and I, as a new user, dont have the access. To get it, it would take me an hour or so, to get 10 posts.
Back to this thread...
So yesterday I rooted my LG Optimus 2x using this Guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
and I did everything as listed.
Then I downloaded ROM Manager and tried to download a CM7 ROM. First I had to re-flash CWM Recovery (for some reason). After that I tried to backup my ROM(Stock 2.3.4, flashed without root, LG support is great yay!), but when it rebooted and launched CWM, nothing happened.
I couldn`t even select a command by pressing power button. I was worried, but since I did nothing to the ROM, I pulled out the battery. Since I knew there was a backup option when downloading the ROM, I downloaded it and again, when CWM launched, nothing happened. This time I could choose commands, so I went on and rebooted.
So I did it manually, downloaded gapps and CM7, placed them on my 1gb SD card. Launched into CWM, made a backup, wiped data, cache and partition cache. Installed CM7 from SD and Google Apps. Rebooted and the nice CM7 Launch Screen appeared.
So until now everything went seemingly well. When I did the setup I noticed the Google Apps were missing, but I didn`t mind that. That was the only problem issue.
Today I tried to take a picture, but I couldn`t because my SD card was full. First I was confused, since the Camera shots used to be stored in the Internal memory.
So I plug the phone into my PC and checked the External SD card. The Back-up ROM took all the space and I am quite bothered, since I have planned on changing my SD card.
Now I wrote all this just in case I did something wrong, but here is the question:
Can I somehow move this back-up to my Internal storage and not lose my Back-Up.
Where is CMW installed?(I had to re-install it again after ROM flash. ROM Manager remained on my phone, while other apps go deleted.)
Now this is quite a lot of text, but I am a newbie, and I need to know if I messed it up.
Thanks in advance!
CWM are installed to an own partition (cant remember wich one, but that doesnt really matter)
Just move backup folder from /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/*BackupDate* to /mnt/emmc/clockworkmod/backup or something like that,
Try and see
When I connect the phone to PC I get to folder, the External SD one and Internal(5,5gb). THere is a folder called clockworkmod, but I cant see the mnt and emmc thingys.
Is it allright if i copy my whole backup folder there(there is a download folder for CM7. I can delete that can`t I, for storage space purposes.)
Ty
Should work

SD Card location issues

I managed to update my rooted stock 4.1.2 to 4.3 today. After replacing my recovery with stock, the update went off without any problems.
I have hit a wall now however.
When I attempt to access by sdcard from within android, I am getting a small set of empty folders (download, data etc.). I've attempted to download the SuperSU package to multiple locations.
Problem is when I attempt to install superSU from within CWM. In CWM, I see my old sdcard files.
Is there any reason I can't see my existing sdcard files within android?
This is proving most frustrating.
I'm swapped out to TWRP, which shows the same files on the sdcard as I can see within android, so I've been able to obtain root.
I do note that there is still 12GB tied up in "other" files on my system however, so my original sdcard files must be someplace. I just can't seem to locate them.
**********
Update:
I flashed CWM back after getting root in place. CWM is still mounting my old sdcard. So it's still on the device, but I'm thinking it's not being mounted by my rom for some reason.
Looks like I've solved it.
For some reason, 4.3 and TWRP are mounting my old sdcard as /shell/emulated and my new sdcard as /shell/emulated/0
I've heard of similar things happening, but was under the impression that updates from 4.1.2 moved existing sdcard folders into the "0" folder
Regardless, I'm going to just bulk copy and paste my way back to sanity.
Is there a way to change what CWM is mounting as sdcard?

you could use a symlink: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991657
Though I think newer versions of the recovery fixed that, but I haven't updated my recovery so I just use the symlink method.
