Just got the Droid Turbo a few days ago. Still trying to get used to the phone coming from CM11 on a Verizon Galaxy S3. The phone is great, but I'm starting to miss all the customizations CM11 allows...
Has anyone gotten the unread email count working with either APEX or NOVA launcher?
I tried both (paid versions, of course), but neither works with the Turbo's email client.. :crying:
I just sent Teslacoil (of Nova Launcher) an email today about this very issue, so I'll let you know what they come back with.
I too came from a GS3 running CM11. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade overall, but yeah I do miss a few things. I'm hoping Lollipop will fix a few of them (Toggles for flashlight/screen-rotate, for example).
I'm not sure if this is the case with the Turbo's software, because it seems that the Circle widget for this phone works on any launcher., which was not the case for previous Droid devices. But in the past, it was impossible to get notification counts for Email working on 3rd party launchers because Moto's email client and notification count app doesn't like to play nice with anything other than Moto's launcher. My solution to this was to start using a 3rd party email client (I use K9).

Yeah, K9 would be my last resort.
Or I guess I could try the Lillipop Gmail client too, but my main emails are Exchange and Hotmail...
I also sent the guys at APEX launcher an email regarding unread email count support for the Droid Turbo, but so far no response from them If Nova can get it 1st, I'm switching!
Well.. I'll give K9 a try...
Thanks!

Otherwise the latest update to Gmail allows you to add custom accounts NOT from Google, and Gmail's badge notifications work fine for me on the stock launcher.
Just open the Gmail app, open the drawer menu on the left, click on the small arrow next to the account name and hit add account. Should be pretty self explanatory from there.
I have the same bug/issue Nova Launcher with TeslaUnread counter.
the email counter adds up but never down....if I clear and turn back on, it gets it right ONCE, then as soon as email rolls in, the counter sticks
tried k9 could not get it to work with my exchange
any other ideas ?

I've been in contact with Tesla and they've trying to get it to work. They've asked me to do some testing for them and asked for logs. The last beta they sent me is almost working, except that the count would remain at 1 when there's no unread emails.
Hopefull, aafter the holidays, we can finally get it right.
Tesla has been very responsive. I tried emailing Apex but got absolutely no response.
I'm switching to Nova Launcher on all of my devices if Tesla can get the unread email count working!

Great, if there is anything I can do as well, let me know. I think I am actually running a beta as well and still having the issue, although it is the public beta vs what you have.
Good luck!

Just a quick update, we have progress...but not perfect yet.
The counter counts up and down now, but it still gets stuck at ONE (1) NO MATTER what.
if I disconnect and reconnect it starts at 0, but then once we get to one it never goes back to 0

Are you on 3.3beta2 as well?
I got that version from them on 12/12/14 and I emailed them back about this issue almost right away.
Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything back since then...
Maybe they went on a break during the Holidays and hopefully they'll resume working soon...
I just keep an unread email in my inbox so that I'll always know when I get a new email ...

Yea sure...
As a side note, in doing some research I found these guys MIGHT have abandoned the app ? any truth to this ? or is it the Nova guys who left and Tesla is unrelated.
Finally, how do you email Tesla, I've tried to find out but never get a response or any confirmation....

Errr... TeslaCoil Software is the company that developed Nova Launcher and also the TeslaUnread for Nova ..
Nova Launcher is their main product, so I don't think they'll abandon it..
I just emailed them at [email protected] and they responded!

Hello,
I've just recently switched from a Windows Mobile phone to the Hero, and there are a few features I miss from my old phone. I'm hoping that someone can recommend some apps to fill the gap; I've looked around on the forum and not yet found anything that seems like it would do what I want.
Calendar:
The calendar app that comes with the phone works great for everything except one simple feature - it displays all events on the monthly view with the same icon. My old phone used to have different icons for events in the morning, afternoon or 'all day'. This made it a lot easier to tell them apart at a glance. Edit: You also can't flick the screen to the side to scroll through days.
Mail:
This is just a minor annoyance. You can't swap between emails or email accounts by flicking the screen to the side.
Notifications:
If I've missed a call, received a text message or something of that sort, I'd like the phone to vibrate every 5 minutes until I acknowledge that I missed something. Currently all I can find is making the track ball glow, which isn't terribly useful if the phone is in my pocket.
If anyone can recommend some programs to fix those issues, that'd be great. (By the way, I'm using the Modaco custom ROM v2.2) Thanks!
Steve
For text notifications, grab SMS Popup from the Market. Brilliant little app imo
For the calendar get Pure Grid Calendar and turn on the Timeline option in settings

Missed call can repeat notifications for missed calls and texts. You can also set the vibration pattern.
For notifications, I use Missed Call. Seems to work well for missed calls and SMS messages which is all I need it for.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tried SMS popup and it worked fine for texts, but as expected, it didn't do anything for missed calls. I've now installed Missed Call; I'll see how well it works tomorrow.

As for Pure Grid Calendar, that looks good. However it's a paid app; does it work well? The reviews generally were positive, but I'm paranoid about paying for something that doesn't work quite how I'd like it. In particular I forgot to mention that I need it to sync with Google Calendar - the guy's website suggests it does in some of the comments but doesn't specifically say so. Do you know if that's definitely the case?
Thanks again guys.
Pure Grid Calendar and it's cousin Pure Calendar are paid apps but you do get to use them for about 24 hours for free. If you then install you get a refund. My understanding is that this happens for all paid apps but perhaps someone who knows more about market can confirm.
As to syncing with Google calendar, again my understanding is that it is the device itself that syncs. In each calendar app, including HTC calendar, you just choose which calendars you want that app to display. The pure calendars are the same.
Personally I use Pure Calendar rather than the grid as it shows an agenda style widget in a 4x2 format.

I read that somewhere else as well, and then went to check the Market. That's indeed what the Google Terms of Service said; you can get a refund within 24 hours as long as you haven't tried downloading the program before.

I actually tried the Pure Grid Calendar yesterday, and I'm happy with it. I particularly like how it brings up a pop-up of the day's events if you tap a day.
I'll have a look at the Pure non-grid Calendar as well later, as I can't access the market from where I am at the moment. I assume its advantage over the basic Android calendar widget is that it displays multiple days?
Thanks to you both for your help.
Recurring Events
I am new to Android from WinMo as well. I am having trouble with recurring events. I work a rotating (2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off; I KNOW!!! ) schedule for 2 wks with one workgroup then repeating for two weeks with another workgoup, then starting over.
This was not a problem with the calendar in my WinMo Tilt. I could "program" my work schedule in my phone and look out as far as I wanted to. I miss my calendar!
Am I missing something, or is the android calendar completely lacking in this area? Any help is greatly appreciated.
DesktopSMS forwards all your incoming SMS on your *Android Phone* to your Gmail to GTalk.
You can then reply to the chat request or email, and the response will be sent back from your phone as a text message. This is very similar to Google Voice, except you won't need a new number or anything annoying like that!
http://app.net/desktopsms
Installation:
1) Install DesktopSMS on your ANDROID PHONE. (Not onto your XOOM)
2) Login to Desktop SMS on your ANDROID ****PHONE****.
3) Install a Chat client like Google Talk (which may already be on your XOOM) onto your XOOM or desktop PC.
4) Receive a text. Watch as your text gets converted to an email and google chat message
5) Respond!
So, once again, this app is only installed on your phone. Then just install your favorite IM client on your desktop and tablet, and the rest will work magically!
You do not need to install this on both your phone and tablet like other apps. You do not need to be on the same network like other apps. This all works by magic (my servers).
Let me know what you think. This is in a free beta right now, so be prepared for some bugs! I'd love to hear your feedback.
Wrote you a PM
well, I don't have a smart phone so thats a problem.
I, like many others, have ditched their smartphomes and activated their xooms. I now only have a dummy phone. I didn't see a need in paying for two data plans because I ws rarey using my phone. Now I use it to talk and text.... even though I wish it was only to talk.
I am waiting for the day that I can SMS on my Xoom using my current phone number. Guess I'll jabe to keep waiting. lol
Works awesome...just had a conversation with myself, through gtalk. Hahaha havnt tried it with my xoom yet. But im pretty sure it will work just fine. Very good job
It looks great but I cannot seem to get it to work yet, Mr. Koush. I have it signed it with push notifications successfully on my gmail account on my OG Droid. I can do the test message from within the app and it pops up on my phone like always, but other than that it does nothing on my Xoom, or on anything else for that matter. It seems almost like the push notifications are not even being sent out.
EDIT: I found out what the problem was. I had the default messaging app totally disabled, as I am using Handcent SMS as a complete replacement to the default one. I would like to use Handcent SMS instead of the default one. I know its beta and I cannot wait for updates!

It looks like after you receive your first text from that person after you accepted the "chat invite" on your Gtalk account it syncs up with your current contact list automatically. It shows the phone number on the left side of the screen under your gmail account, but in the chat window it shows that contacts name in parenthesis.
This ofcourse is for if you are using the Xoom with Gtalk, such as myself. I haven't tried anything else yet.
Could it be that the contacts NAME will be in the gtalk LIST instead of phonenumber ?
OK, being a bit thick here.
I'm using GoSMS Pro, but as far as I know, the default messaging app is still active, just without any notifications... does this make a difference?
Not currently receiving any notifications in email or g-talk... :/

*edit* update took care of it, never mind.
@Koush
I am having an issue getting the app to try it out. When I tell the system to send me a link, it does, but it sends me a link for the link request page again. It does not send me a link to the actual app.
EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. Shouldn't browse until I had my coffee.

Is it possible that your push servers are blocked in China?
I can correctly Login with Google Account, but get an error on 'registering with push server....' (takes long and eventually times out)
Error message: "Login failed. Please check your password. If the error persists, please send a log to the developer"
here is a log... maybe it helps analyze why i can't connect with the push servers...
Ok, it's just updated, and when I go to send a test SMS, it brings up
The application GoSMS was found installed. If you do not recieve a text message, please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings.

So that's cool, then I send the test. GoSMS then pops up the text, as it always does.
However, it still doesn't appear to be sending me an email.
When it says "please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings", does it mean the default Messaging app?
I've tested by disabling the taskbar notification for GoSMS and re-enabling it for the default Messaging app, but even then, there is no sound nor visual cue that an SMS has arrived... is this why it's not working? Has GoSMS broken my default messaging app?

Hey,
Just picked up a Note 3 through work, and have it connected via ActiveSync to my work's exchange server.
I used to have a GNEX with the same configuration, so I know this problem is due to the new device.
When I receive an email, and hit Reply All, it includes me on the response - but on my GNEX, this was never the issue, it would only reply to the other people in the email thread.
Does anyone know what the deal is with this? Am I missing a setting somewhere (I honestly don't know where everything is, with this ****ty TW layout).
Any help is appreciated.

I can't find it as well. This is weird. When I hit the two arrows at the bottom (Reply to all)
It does not include me. You don't have that "Make Reply-All" checked right? If so, I would take that off.
When reading an email, at the bottom you should have multiple buttons to use.
One back arrow for reply
Two back arrows together for reply all
One forward arrow to forward emails
The trash can looking icon
and last, next and back icon to go between emails quicker.
This is whats on all my emails when opened and I have no issues at all.

OK, a factory reset solved it in both Email and Gmail.
In the Samsung Email app, if you go into Settings and pick Show More Settings, there is a "Auto CC/BCC" option. Strangely enough, this was unchecked (set to None) while this strangeness was happening.
Factory reset, then flashed the 4.4 Email and Exchange apks, then added my work account. Still experienced the same "Reply-All-Includes-Me" issue in 4.4 Email, didn't check Gmail. Added my work account to the Samsung Email app, and the problem disappeared. Deleted my account from the Samsung Email app, and now the 4.4 Email app is working properly.
Thanks for your help with this, it's greatly appreciated.

No problem, glad you figured it out. That would of drove me crazy.
Went from pebble to gear now to sony smartwatch 2.
I have simple needs. Why when a email notification comes in, I get a pretty icon, sender, subject and poss 1 line of text and a lot of black space.
I don't want to then go to the notifications, and click on the email to see it. On the sony it uses the full screen to show all of the message, then goes away. If I want to see it again, I can go to the email app....
The gear is so much better, but I get 100's of emails a day and a 2 line notification sucks
Anyone ???
You only get to see whatever notification is available in the notification drop down on the phone
Some firmware and gear manager combinations don't give any email body with Exchange
If that's the case, is there a email client that will show email as they come in???? It's so nice to see the text of a msg while driving without having to fumble around....
I know it may come but k9 and touchdown have a extension for the sony that does it
In galaxy gear app under notifications there is a tick box for preview message, but it still gives you very little
Until Samsung release an sdk, no
You can install custom rom (null_) along with gapps and email client that can access internet via Bluetooth tethering
On the stock e-mail client on my N3 used with Exchange I get 14 lines of text, more when there aren't images in the original e-mail and the stupid "images are not supported" banner takes up the equivalent of two lines of text.

I'm on null 15 (waiting for null 20 before I update) and I don't get much of any email text. I use maildroid and have it set to push notifications from maildroid to my gear, but I don't even get text, just the option to see the email on the watch. The one thing I would love for a developer (or Samsung) figure out is to get email to push via Bluetooth (not internet tether). I don't need to see pics, just the message text. Unless I'm missing something, as of now there is now way to push and pull emails to the gear from the phone. If there is, someone please chime in on how to do this. BTW, I have 5 separate email accounts (personal and 4 business accounts) all through gmail so I get lots of emails. So I would need a way for all my accounts to be pushed. Again, any insight on how to do this please post. Thanks.

Doesnt that kill battery life? I barely get a day on the Note 3 and the Gear

Anyone ???

I checked out the Smartwatch 2 the other day and thought the Gear was so much better in just about every way - except for the Gmail notifications! Someone else mentioned using the Gmail widget on the Gear, that might work out good...

If I root and rom, dont I loose the native apps from the gear like the camera etc?

I have done this already, but some of those apps notifications aren't pushed, for whatever reason. I'm hoping null 20 will include notiwidget and other tweaks that will allow better notification push, especially with email. I get my calls pushed just fine, with tablet talk my texts are completely pushed, it's just emails, and I get no text for those, only the option to "view on phone". Like I said, I'm sure some of this will be addressed in Null 20 and other tweaks for the Gear in the coming months.

Why did you think the Gear was so much better than the SM2? Curious.... I think by the time there is a SDK for the Gear there will be a Gear 2. I think mine is going back

I just felt the overall package and experience was better on Gear vs SM2. Just seems more refined. I like the gestures, finger swipes. You can do more with Gear as well, SM2 seemed to be all about getting notifications and not much else.
Now I have to admit, I got the Gear for around $200 with that T-Mobile promo a few months ago. So in my mind, I'm comparing two $200 devices side by side... and in that case, getting more bang for the buck with the Gear.
However, despite all thid, I agree - don't think there will be an SDK until Gear 2... which is rumored to be coming out this Spring. So I'm also thinking of selling my Gear and getting the Sony instead, lol. I should be able to at least get back what I paid for the Gear. Even though I like Gear better, having a smartwatch work across multiple, non-Samsung devices is more important to me. I don't always want to have to use my Note just so that I can use the Gear.
I've had my ViVO fold for about 3 weeks now, and have everything working except I can't get the notification dot to appear in the corner of my text and Gmail widgets.
I have shuffled the bloatware onto the last page, and combined most of it into a bloatware folder, so I never see it, and implemented the phone entirely with Play store apps. I use native Google apps for Gmail and text, drive, docs, sheets, etc, and everything works fine except I have to access Gmail and messages, to see if I have any new emails or texts. I use T-Mobile and it worked fine from day one.
I have been reading XDA threads as a guest since I got my fold. I have seen the general discussion about vivo fold issues, but can't find it anymore.
What asking you for?
Mostly, I am reporting my experience of treating it like a regular Android phone, and ignoring the vivo stuff.
The only question I was asking was how to get the notification. On my Gmail and messages icon.

You should use just the stock message app which works fine with notifications and dual Colin display etc. no real advantage to using Google message and the scaling is way too huge. Does your Wi-Fi calling work? Mine is turned on but doesn’t work.
