Hello. Wondering why the connection between the phone and computer won't seem to stay connected so I can copy files back to the phone.
It says the device either stopped responding or has been disconnected.
Any suggestions? I had a long night last night attempting to update the phone without success. It won't let me update with any method.

Sounds like a bad cable. I'd try another one to rule that out first.
Also try if turning USB debugging off helps

I got up this morning and decided to sync some music over to my captivate. I was surprised when I started getting errors that the device was not recognized. After four hours of trying to get the phone to sync I put it back to as vanilla as I could and brought it to ATT. After trying a new cable and just about everything else the phone has been declared to be defective. My problem is how do I get this phone back to original without a usb connection. The phone is not recognized by Odin, ADB or anything else so as far as my knowledge goes I am out of ideas. The phone works fine other wise but I thought some of the brightest on here might be able to help. Any ideas guys?
Try a different USB port.
Mine only works in the back USB ports, but won't do **** in the front ones.
I probably should have been a little more clear. The port is defective on the phone. They can't even communicate with the phone at the AT&T store through the usb port with some reader. I am trying to get the phone back to resembling stock before i send it back for warranty.

Try downloading adbwireless from the market. It will allow you to use adb without a wired connection.

I have Windows 7 64x bit, and sometimes my connections seem dead, and I just uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
ADB wireless seems like your best bet right now
Thanks. Gave that a shot and I can connect to the phone. Now all I need to do is find the att apps.
try a factory reset and see if it recognizes your phone .

Have you tried it on another computer?
Like the topic says. My phone is no longer recognized by my pc so I can't use adb or turn on mass storage. I've rebooted, power cycled, installed drivers, and anything I can think of. This is all via the usb cable.
Any ideas would be great. Im not home till tomorrow morning but still give me some ideas to go on so I get my phone back in shape!
Running CM6 nightly 23.

Have you checked to see if it is a damaged USB cable?
Would it be damaged if it still charges the phone?

That is possible. It may not be getting 2 way communication but still have +5v and gnd in working order. Does it show up as a problem device in system properties, assuming its windows? If the phone is charging, I would tend to believe it to be more of a driver issue rather than phone issue.
Yes it still shows in the system as a device but windows says it has malfunctioned. Its odd how its worked since March till now.

I was having the same problem but I rooted my phone and used it on my pc a few times and then my pc would see but didn't know what it was so I went back to the stock Rom but haven't checked it yet ill let you know when I do.

Trying reinstalling your USB drivers. Also, if you have access to another computer see if another computer recognizes your Hero.
Narrow it down to which device is malfunctioning.
ok so now I'm back onto a rooted stock rom and it is working fine with my PC.
Hi,
I just got my Samsung Galaxy S a few days back and installed Kies on my Windows Vista PC (32 bit) last night. It asked for an update as soon as I started it for the first time and I did so.
When I tried connecting my phone to the PC USB, it asked for the connection mode and I chose "Samsung Kies", right after this I see the Galaxy S flickering between the MTP application connection screen and the home screen. This goes on indefinitely and I need to pull out the cable to stop this.
This is really frustrating. Is this a problem with my phone (USB port damaged) or some other problem? If anyone else here is facing this and has resolved it please let me know how.
TIA
Put your phone in mass storage mode, connect it to your PC so that you can browse the internal storage and delete any files that have extensions longer than 16 characters. This is the reason why MTP is crashing over and over. If you do a search for it, its a common problem. I think there is even an app that someone wrote to scan your internal SD and automatically remove these files.
Know the name of the app?

Here is the app.
Had the same problem a while back and this fixed it
Thanks for all the help.
Remvoed Dolphin HD (the one that had 16+ chars extensions) and was able to connect with Kies.
Ive had this problem when trying to install KIES last night, going to give this a go as i want to upgrade to some FroYo goodness!
ON 4.1/4.2 I had no issues with mounting phone to transfer files. Even on GPE roms with 4.3 no issues. But all 4.3 sense roms I cannot get it to mount and allow me to transfer files. What it does right now when I plug it in goes through found new hardware attempting to install, no go, or select advanced and it says not installed because it couldn't find necessary software. Then it comes up with HTC One Camera connected and shows stupid options that don't help me at all like; Dropbox and microsoft options and stuff.
Things I've already attempted
Removed drivers
attempted to re-install them
USB debugging on, rebooted between selecting/deselecting options phone & computer.
Removed HTC Sync, attempted to reinstall get an error upon trying 1152 Error extracting to temp location, I cannot change its desired location though, stupid lol.
Cannot delete C:\HTC folder cause of passthrusvr.exe I don't need or want that (my understanding it is for passing internet connections and such).
I'm on XP, I know its a dinosaur, it gets what I need done, until now lol.
Oh ya, it connects fine to other computers like my works and a friends. Just not mine which has all my music on it... :-\
I just wanna move some music over and stuff, hate going back and forth on backups to do so.
I won't be available til tomorrow to trouble shoot or late tonight depending on how things go later.

Umm sounds like the problem isn't with your phone but with your computer and windows is such a finicky os that not one solution works for all kind of thing. Just a thought are your firewalls configured properly? What does the computer show when plugging it in device manager? Sometimes my phone and laptop don't play along and its either because I have fast charge enabled in kernel or I just turn debugging off always works then and the phone is recognized as mass storage device. Good luck

I don't use anti virus or have any firewalls active as far as I know, it looks for cdc serial but then nothing happens so it mounts as an HTC One camera device. Stock kernel as well, appreciate the trying tho.

And its def a computer thing which I'm not super knowledgeable on unfortunately. I've got it to connect on other PCs and laptops without a hiccup, also have tried differs cables also, before that's suggested too. I'm almost positive it's just the leftovers from drivers that I can't seem to fully get rid of.

Hi guys,
I'm facing a weird problem. Hope someone could help me out.
Phone is One M7, Lollipop 5.0.2, windows 7-64bit.
To make it short and clear, here are the symptoms:
1- Shutdown always restarts phone, can't turn it off.
2-Phone not detected when connected to laptop, i tried all there is to try mentioned on XDA
3-When connected to Laptop, after some time, the USB icon in status bar appears and never gets off even after disconnecting from laptop, only goes away after restart.
I guess all the above are somehow related but can't find any of solutions working. I tried everything.
Drivers install-unistall-reinstall, USB prot cleaning, 5 cables and USB ports, safe mode on phone, malware scan on laptop, etc...
It used to work before, other phones get detected by laptop....now I'm stuck and can't do any thing through laptop connection....no ADB, no file transfer, no backup to laptop, nothing.
Does anybody have any idea of what more I could do? What's left is a factory reset that I am keeping as a last resorts, if it would help, because i don't want to lose my app data.
Appreciate any input from you guys.
Thanks.

I would indeed try a factory reset and also try to turn off the phone from the bootloader

Thanks Alray for your reply.
It doesn't turn off from bootloader also...it restarts !!
What's keeping me from the factory reset is that all backup apps that can make app data backup (Helium, or ADB backup command) require a pc connection.
So I'm kind of stuck here.
I hope that someone as experienced as yourself would have any ideas to try.

Thanks Sui77 for your help.
Although I never had battery or display changed (never sent to maintenance before at all), I will try to do what you mentioned.
I understand from the picture you posted that the screw driver is pointing to the loose cable connection, right?
Thanks again.
